ORA-28500 when accessing an Excel file

Hello,
I'm getting the dreaded ORA-28500 "Optional feature not implemented" when trying to access an Excel file through HS ODBC. This is a known bug in 11.1.0.6 (6701400), however my flavor is 11.1.0.7 fully patched. Since I'm trying to use the OLAP option on Windows XP 32, I installed version 11.1.0.6 and applied patches 6890831 and 7682184, as advised on [this page|http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/bi/olap/collateral/olap_certification.html], with no error as far as I can tell. This should have fixed the problem with dg4odbc according to the bug page, however when now I try to access an Excel sheet I get the exact same message :

ORA-02063: preceding 2 lines from REFDATAIs it possible that the patch did not go as intended ? Or that the second patch did reintroduce the old behavior ? I'm really lost at what to do now.

thanks for the prompt answer. In fact I have only one Oracle Home on this machine so this should not be the problem. Below is a log of the call that gives the error message, can you spot the error from that ?

it works fine and displays customers.
Only when I try to access my CustDisp.JSP, I get
java.sql.SQLException: ORA-00604: error occurred at recursive SQL level 1 ORA-12705: Cannot access NLS data files or invalid environment specified. Error.
Can some one please help me sorting out this problem?

We are in middle of a MCOD installation of 4.7 x 2.00 SR1 with BW 3.1 on Windows 2003/Oracle.
BW 3.1 is up and running, while 4.7 fails on R3loads.

Actually the problem is not ORA-1403, but the ORA-00406: COMPATIBLE parameter needs to be 9.2.0.0.0 or greater.
Please update the COMPATIBLE parameter in your init<SID>.ora file and restart the database. This should fix your problem.

It shouldn't print each page as a separate job and
each tab has a different name, so, even if it did, it
ought to give the printouts the name of the tabs.
It doesn't print each page as a separate job unless the orientation is different - that's the bug. And the name of the job is taken from the name of the window, not the name of the tabs. That's how every application works, which, I think, is why Excel allows the specific selection or the active sheets to be printed.
Still, that does sound like a plausible explanation.
However, even if presented with multiple prints with
the same name, the spooler should print each one!
The spooler does print each one - you can watch the spooler process the multiple jobs. I think, though, that they are being overwritten since all the jobs have the name of the window as the job title. And since this happens after the Save Dialog is presented, there's really nothing the application can do. To Excel, it's one job, the multiple orientations don't matter; it's just that Apple doesn't handle it correctly.
As a workaround, you can print the selections one at a time and give them unique names and then rejoin them in one PDF file.

Ever since I installed WordPerfect 7, I've had periodic difficulties of having stored Excel files open in Quattro Pro. Normally, I can easily correct that by retrieving the files from within Excel. But now a more difficult problem has presented

To avoid this failure and continue loading data into the table, set the import parameter IGNORE=y. Otherwise, no data will be loaded into the table because of the table creation error."
original import tries to append (insert)
there is no parameter here like table_exists_action=truncate/replace
1. drop all the tables (dynamic sql), so there will be no errors because of already existent tables
or
2. truncate all the tables (dynamic sql) + use IGNORE=Y
(or
3. drop the whole schema in target database, recreate it, then do the import)

The only idea what I have is to create link from MS Sql to Oracle (right now You have oracle ->ms sql)and then before insert You will set identity_insert on and will run insert.

Pop up saying File already exists when saving an excel file while running exe

I have an excel file which I read and write in my application.
When I run the application in development system, it works fine. However when I run the application as an exe and try to save the excel file, it says that 'The file already exists and Do you want to replace?'.
Why does this question asked for exe?

Hi Princess_swa,
The problem may be that when you build an exe, it adds another folder called 'builds' into the filepath.
A good way to fix this is to create a case structure, putting extra strip paths into your filepath if running an exe.
I have attached a screenshot of my code doing exactly this for you to look at. The code creates a 'base path' which is then used to reference all of my file paths in my code - and therefore, they will always have the right number of strip paths when it is run. (Note: in my code I have 2 extra strip paths, due to where I've placed the folder, but one should be sufficient.)
Also there is a 'Check if folder exists' VI which you can again link to a case structure, and change the filename if it already exists. Again, I have provided a screenshot of my code which does this.

Link update error when updating linked excel file

Im working with about 200 pages product catalog and the product information is on excel tables. I import the excel file as unformatted table in Indesign and format the table using the table and cell styles. The importing and formatting goes just fine, but when i edit the linked table in excel and then try update the link the Indesign notes: "Cannot update the link for xxxx.xls. Please place the document again to reset the link." The catalogs product information is on 5 separete excel files and each file contents about 3000 rows and 7 colums, the idea was that i import the excel tables to Indesign and when the customer makes changes or correction in excel, i just update the links and thats it. This updating error sinks the whole idea, has anyone a good idea how to fix this problem or can i do the job some other way?
Im using Indesign CS3 (5.04) and Mac OSX (10.4.11( and i have tryed two different excel version, Excel 2008 for Mac (12.1.3) and Excel 2004 for Mac (11.3.7).

I've seen this error sporadically and have no clue what causes it. The

Performance issue when accessing a CRL file

In an application we receive sign and verify files(ordinary information files) as seperate processes. When signing files we do a check on the CRL of the signing certificate. Below are the steps in which the check is done:
1- Receive a file. Get its signing certificate from a repository.
2-save/cache the CRL file in a directory(we do check if the file already exists when creating). We have configured a time out period with which the CRL will be updated in case of modifications.

When running signing processes with more than 150 files(the file size can go upto 2MB) over a period of time, the CRL is sometimes not found and InvalidCRLException is thrown. I think its some problem with accessing the CRL file concurrently since it could also be updated at some point.
Im trying to figure out if a file lock or some other way would help to reslove this. I need help/suggestions on this.

I think its some problem with accessing the CRL file concurrentlyUndoubtedly. You should write the new data to a new file and do a delete/rename operation. All clients should cope with not finding the CRL file by retrying a couple of times in case they tried between the delete and the rename.
This is a file handling question, or concurrency question, not really a security question.
