Oracle 10.2.0.2 upgrade causes causes sporadic signal 4/ORA-

We have recently upgraded the Oracle database of this ECC 5.0 SAP
system from Oracle 9207 to Oracle 10.2.0.2 with 40 one-up patches. The
SAP kernel is 640 64-bit Unicode at patch level 175. We are receiving
intermittent signal 4/ORA-24909 errors after completing this upgrade.
As part of the upgrade, we followed the recommendation to install the
latest Oracle client software which we did. We followed note 1017418
to install the latest 64-bit 9208 Oracle client available on
sapnet. In our case, since it is the only SAP system on the server and
the Oracle DB is 10.2.0.2, we implemented the client per the step B.5
in note 1017418. Implementing the client per these instructions
creates the following directories:

I have read all notes I can find trying to understand what may be
causing this issue, but everything I find seems to point to an Oracle
client issue. After the upgrade, the only change made to <sid>adm
(QASADM in our case) was the setting of ORACLE_HOME. I have attached
the envronment variables of <sid>adm to this message. <sid>adm is able
to read the new $ORACLE_HOME and the data pointed to by ORA_NLS33.
Note 952388 provides a direct hit for the issue we are having. Since
our database is now 10.2.x, we validated the following two points:
1) made sure note 1017418 was implemented (as mentioned above).
2) made sure one-up patch 5092134 was applied per note 1005758; I've
attached the OPATCH lsinventory output to confirm this criteria is met.

thanks.The error is coming from an application. Please check the alert log file of the database and further there will be a trace file mentioned in the alert log file in which you will have information of the object which is causing deadlock.

I have a table that has a date column. Sometimes an invalid date is passed and I'd like to capture and initilize the incoming value to null and have it inserted without error. Currently I get ORA-01847 day of month must be between 1.
Example:

Now if a user does the following, I want no error to occure but rather for the date value to be set to null and inserted.
insert into ep1 values('1', '41-JAN-13')
The insert may come from any client and I can't change the calling code hence can't used a precedure to replace the insert. I'm guessing there is some way to catch system level exceptions on the DB level. This doesn't need to be nice, it just needs to work.
Here is the question on experts exchange. I'm told there is no way, but there must be. After all the exception is on a DB system level and I would think one could extend or override these, or disable them.

Loose harddrive when upgraded / possibly causing bad sectors

Just recently I upgraded my hard drive (2.5in. Western Digital Scorpio Blue: 640 GB) and put my files on it, set up boot camp, ect…, but then my computer was acting funny (errors, slow performance, stalling) on the second week I used my computer (mostly on my windows side). So I ran some disk checking software (Drive Genius 3) and it found 50+ bad sectors on my hard drive and growing. So before I replace my hard drive I want to find out why my hard drive went bad so quickly. After thinking about it, I noticed my hard drive was loose when I installed it, I tried using the mounts that came with my computer, but they didn’t secure it. So if anyone has any ideas about how to properly secure the drive or what can be causing it to have bad sectors, please let me know.

Message was edited by: RobWooSounds like you got a bad hard drive. Sometimes hard drives fail prematurely / unexpectedly. That's why it is good to regularly backup your files. If you got it as recently as implied in your post, the hard drive should be covered by the manufacturer's warranty.
As far as physically mounting the hard drive in your computer, you should look at the repair guides on ifixit.com. The hard drive should be seated securely. If it wiggles around you probably did something wrong (ie didn't reattach the mounting screws). See the following link:

Broadband upgrade has caused iTunes to crash my computer!
Help - I've just upgraded to broadband (frustration over slow software / music downloads finally overcame my reticence regards security) but now, whenever I try to download software updates or music from Music Store my computer crashes (even more frustrating - where it took days for anything to download before with unreliable success, now I can't download at all).
I can surf the web fine (as you can see since I'm able to post this problem). I can even open iTunes & access the Music Store, neither of which cause any problem but as soon as I start to do anything which isn't passive access & try to download the computer dies - any ideas?oh good lord ... right, i just did a search through the MS support site on:

Upgrading handhelds caused some issues
I support a company that has 5 BlackBerrys. They just recently upgraded to the Curve 9330 handheld. I went through the process of backing up the old phones, restoring the data to the new phones, and then configuring their accounts in BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
Now, one user is having issues with not receiving emails sporadically. At first the user could not receive emails from inside their organization, then the user could receive emails from inside their organization but still not everyone. Then the issue reversed to not being able to receive emails from outside the organization.
The organization has an Active Directory domain with a Spam Filter in place. I have verified that I can send an email from my email account to the user successfully and that there are no emails stuck in the Spam Filter from anyone who sent the user an email.
Any ideas on this issue?

Go to Solution.I am replying to my own post and resolving the issue at the same time.
I found that the BlackBerry has an option to select folders that are created in a users Inbox for forwarding to the BlackBerry. In short, by default if a user has Outlook configured with multiple folders in their Inbox for Joe, Sally, Bill, etc. and rules configured to send emails from them to those folders then Folder redirection on the BlackBerry handheld has to be configured. This will allow emails that are grabbed by Outlook rules first to also be sent to the BlackBerry.
My users are using BlackBerry Curve 9330s and have Verizon as their Service Provider...
-From the Home Screen (with the Red Verizon check) select Messages
-Once the Messages are displayed make sure the date is highlighted at the top of the screen and press the BlackBerry button (to the left of the big black button in the middle of the phone)
-Select Options at the bottom of the menu
-Once the Options menu is displayed select Email Settings
-Once in the Email Settings Menu press the BlackBerry button and select Folder Redirection
-Once the Folder Redirection Menu is displayed highlight Inbox and press the black button to expand
-Once the Inbox is expanded highlight each sub-folder and click on it to select it for Folder Redirection
-Once all the desired folders are selected press the BlackBerry Button again and click Save
-This will save all of the folders that were selected and cause all of the email sent to those folders in Outlook to also be sent to the BlackBerry
-Also if you press the BlackBerry button while in the Folder Redirection menu and select "Select All" then all of the folders in that menu will be selected and all emails will be forwarded to the BlackBerry

Why am I getting a 'System.TypeInitializationException' when I create an Oracle connection in my .Net WCF web service?

I'm currently working on implementing a WCF service which talks to an Oracle 10g database on the backend. When I attempt to connect to the database from within my service, I get the following exception: System.TypeInitializationException.
•I'm running on a windows 7 (64 bit machine).
•I'm using VS 2010.
•I'm using Oracle 10g on the backend.
I'm the Oracle.DataAccess.dll (ODP.Net) from the following installed instance
c:\oracle\product\10.2.0\.....\ODP.NET\bin\1.x\Oracle.DataAccess.dll
•I've included this DLL in the references for my WCF service.
•I've included this service as a project within my VS WPF solution.
•The service starts up automatically when I start my WPF application in VS 2010.
At runtime I see the following output in my debug output window:

A Little Background:
I'm basically migrating my data layer to a WCF service. The same service layer previously existed in a WinForm application. Everything works fine in my WinForm application. I include the same reference to the Oracle.DataAccess.dll and all my reads/writes with the database work fine.
Is there something obviously different between the WCF and WinForm access/use of the DLL? Is there some limitation I'm unaware of? Is there an issue running this through VS2010 in the debugger?
I have absolutely no idea what is going on here. Any hints/direction would be greatly appreciated.It's certainly possible to install .NET 1.x on the machine while still using VS 2010, but MS does not support and most likely never tested this combination. Running .NET Framework 1.x on Windows 7 also is not supported. I didn't know you had successfully used this combination previously. Nonetheless, it's good to be on a supported combination that has been certified by MS and Oracle if you run into a problem.
I had another reason to ask you to upgrade to ODP.NET 11.2 As it will be the last version installed, ODP.NET's unmanaged DLLs will appear in your PATH first. The error you see is typical when ODP.NET from one version tries to use DLLs from another Oracle instance installed on your machine.
If that doesn't work, set the DllPath setting in your web.config file to the BIN directory of your newly installed Oracle Client. Here's an example of that:
