Oracle 10 g on zLinux ?

Hi,
I probably want use Oracle 10g Application Server for a project.
Is this product available on IBM zLinux ?
Is there any product availabilty table for oracle products ?
thx in advance,
regards michael

I think is not.
The only certified linux plataforms are:
- SLES-9
- SLES-8
- Red Hat Enterprise AS/ES 4
- Red Hat Enterprise AS/ES 3
- Red Hat Enterprise AS/ES 2.1
- Asianux 1.0
Certified doesn't mean that in other distro won't work, but you won't have support for that

  • Partition exchange failure

(Oracle 10g R1 on zLinux) I've got a large partitioned table with some partitions that are almost empty (but still claiming large amounts of blocks). To do some partition exchanging I created a second table that has exactly the same column layout (I used the create script from the large table without the partition directives and I tried a 'create table .. as select * from big-table) without any indexes. Fot the indexes(the plan was to re-create them when the exchanges were done.
Now when I start the partition exchange using:
    ALTER TABLE ahd_request
    EXCHANGE PARTITION tm2002
    WITH TABLE ahd_request_small
I get the message 'ORA-14097: column type or size mismatch in ALTER TABLE EXCHANGE PARTITION'
Any ideas wether or not this is a bug or am I missing something obivous?

Please check two tables are absolutely in sync with
each other. In terms of columns and data type. That was the easy part (the query is supplied in the meta link documents).
After that it gets more complicated because you have to check for (deleted) Function Based Indexes, Unused Columns etc. which do not show up but create/hide hidden columns etc.
Believe me, I'm way beyond simple structure checking and will follow the only advise I haven't tried yet (from Oracle that is): dump and reload.

  • Error message when connecting ZLINUX/DB2 with Oracle

    Hi BW gurus,
We are upgrading to BI 7.0 & ECC 6.0.  We are on the operating system: ZLINUX/DB2 Operating System.
The ZLINUX/DB2 OS needs to be connected to the Oracle system through DB connect. As there is no direct connection between these two,
have to install an application server client compatible to windows.
When trying to install the client; we are getting the following error message:
" Can not NFS mount the /sapmnt/<SID> file system or /usr/sap/trans file system from zLinux to a Windows server running the new version of NFS service in R2.  The problem does not happen on my XP desktop running Window Services for Unix.
Please guide me in this regard about how to proceed.
    Thanks in Advance

  • Errors when installing Oracle Client 10.2.0.2.0 on zLinux (Red Hat)

I am receiving errors when installing Oracle Client 10.2.0.2.0 (Administrator) on zLinux. During the install I receive two notifications for File Not Found when the installer tries to create the link for lib32/libclntsh.so.10.1. I hit ignore on the pop-ups and the install completes. The Oracle Net Configuration Assistant then fails to launch with the following error:

This file may be used to run these configuration assistants outside of OUI. Note that you may have to update this script with passwords (if any) before executing the same.
I have seen multiple threads relating to very similar errors, but none of the fixes that were suggested have worked. I have double checked the required Red Hat packages and made sure they were all installed on the server. All of the prerequisite checks for the installer are successful. Any assistance would be of most helpful!

Worked with my Linux system admin and figured out that we were indeed missing some packages. There are 390 and 390x rpm's for Red Hat on System Z, i.e. 64 bit and 32 bit versions. Since we are running a 64 bit os some of those 32 bit packages did not get installed. Since our roles are split up, I am kind of blind as to the OS setup so I was not able to catch the problem. It is truly puzzling as to why Oracle would need 32 bit packages even though Oracle client is 64 bit. Regardless, after adding the 32 bit rpm's the installer was able to perform the linking operation that was failing, and the network configuration script ran successfully.

    Ok, I found the problem....
I noticed that a lot of swap area was used (swapon -s).
The docs say to have 1 GB for swap. I had 3 swap areas totalling about .25 GB.
So I added another GB for swap and started the installation over. This time, I monitored the swap areas (vmstat and swapon -s). Swap used got to almost .50 GB. The installation continued to the end. (almost)
At least this problem is solved. The next one is that the "Oracle Database Configuration Assistant" failed.
I'm not sure how much of a problem that is....
I haven't installed. CRS, CCD or Client yet. I didn't think they would be installed automatically.
Anyway, I will see how far I get without it.
(Once I get most of the way thru this, my plans are to wipe everything out, and start with a fresh, clean slate.)
    Thanks

  • Oracle Database releases and versioning

After trying to install Database 10g on multiple platforms, I have a few questions that I hope someone won't mind answering:
    - Why is the syntax for key binary commands so different between one release of a single version? For example: primary emca commands that worked for 10g R1 have a completely different syntax for R2, and many R1 commands no longer work at all.
    - In looking at the download list for 10g R2, it seems that only version 10.2.0.1 is available for common server platforms, while more recently updated versions are available solely for proprietary platforms (10.2.0.2 for HP, Solaris, zLinux), and the very latest version (10.2.0.3) is available only for Windows Vista. This seems counter-intuitive: are more people running Oracle on proprietary server platforms than on Linux systems? And, even more interesting: is anyone running production-grade databases on Windows Vista?

    - Why is the syntax for key binary commands so
different between one release of a single version?
For example: primary emca commands that
worked for 10g R1 have a completely different syntax
for R2, and many R1 commands no longer work at all. Each release introduces major supplementary feature revisions while leaving the baseline features in the database unchanged.
emca is one of the supplementary features that was introduced in 10g R1 that needed enhancement. Hence the changes.
Oracle traditionally had been careful to maintain forward compatible syntax. It seems they were not quite as careful with emca.

    interesting: is anyone running production-grade
databases on Windows Vista?Oracle will only upload the first operational version of a release. Eg: 10.2.0.1 should have been the only release on OTN.
However, there were some platform specific patches that were required to make the 'proprietary' versions install or work at all. Rather than back-port the patches to 10.2.01., Oracle decided to load 10.2.0.2 for those.
When Microsoft released their latest proprietary operating system, Vista, ages after Oracle released 10.2.0.1 for Windows, Oracle was caught between a rock and a hard place: do they backport the stuff needed to compensate for the Vista changes or do they simply roll up the latest stuff and release that. I'd guess they decided that, since Vista is a desktop OS and only a few limited shops would use a desktop OS instead of a server OS in production,m it probably would be safe to release the latest rollup.
Personally, I do not run any production grade databases on desktop platforms. Linux, Unix (mainly ) and Widows 2003 Server.

  • Is data guard supported on mainframe zLinux? Anything limitation?

We have Oracle database 9.2.0.4 running on mainframe zLinux. We are thinking of building a data guard for HA.
Is there data guard supported on mainframe zLinux? Anything limitation for zLinux version? can I use 9.2.0.4 on one side, 11.1 on other side?

I am aware of some limitations regarding the logical standby with different chipsets (not supported in one of my environments), but nothing specific in your case. Since limitations on IBM zSeries Based Linux (z/Linux) are not mentioned specifically, it might mean that most of the features would work with the same db version and os version. On the other hand, it might mean there are limitations not discovered or reported to Oracle support.
    HTH.

  • Support re: VM, zLinux

IHAC who has looked on the wikis and not found the following infomration. Please advise where best to find this:
We are aware of statement below regarding support for Oracle products in VMware environments. This states that in some circumstances oracle can require for an issue in VM environment to be reproduced in a physical environment. Question is:
Does this statement apply only to VMware VM, or is it also applicable to all other VM environments except Oracle VM?
In particular, we would like to know what is Oracle support policy for Oracle DB running on z-Linux in System z mainframe LPARs?
In addition we need to know what is Oracle support policy for Oracle DB running on z-Linux which is a guest in zVM?
    Thank you!

I agree with Herbert you should ask your Oracle representative for an official answer.
That being said, we've been running Oracle on zLinux (under zVM) for quite some years now, and never were asked to provide evidence in a non-VM environment.

  • Can Oracle Tuxedo repalce IBM mq connectivity from mainframe

    Hi all,
I am new to Oracle Tuxedo i have some basic question we are facing some issues with the IBM MQ with mainframe .
Can we repalce IBM MQ and can we use oracle tuxedo . How end systems that are connecting to MQ will connect to Tuxedo did they use JMS?
    Thanks
    Phani

    Hi Phani,
You don't need to use JMS to use Tuxedo's /Q facility. It is an option if you already are using JMS.
Any system that supports Tuxedo client install can access Tuxedo /Q queues. On the mainframe this could be done with the zLinux version of Tuxedo. Other systems such as AIX, Linux, Windows, etc., also have client kits that can enqueue and dequeue messages from Tuxedo /Q.
    The WebLogic Tuxedo connector can:
    1) take messages from a JMS queue and place them on a Tuxedo /Q queue
    2) take messages from a Tuxedo /Q queue and place them on a JMS queue
    3) take message from a JMS queue and directly call a Tuxedo service with that message
The performance of /Q is good, although how good depends upon the quality of service chosen. /Q supports both persistent (disk based) and transient (memory based) queues, and it also supports XA so /Q queues can be part of a distributed transaction (syncpoint in mainframe terminology.)
zLinux is not a widely used Tuxedo platform. However Tuxedo /Q is used quite a bit in projects where customers are moving their mainframe applications off of the mainframe and onto Tuxedo due to cost and performance concerns. Many customers headed down this path use our Application Runtime for Tuxedo (ART) which besides supporting the rehosting of CICS applications, also provides a JES-2 like batch subsystem that heavily uses /Q.
I believe you are currently doing:
    non-mainframe MQ Series mainframe
application using MQ <====> Queue <=====> application using
    API (MQI) Manager MQ API
    What I'm suggesting is:
    non-mainframe Tuxedo mainframe application
application using Tuxedo <====> /Q Queue <=====> using Tuxedo API
API to access /Q Manager to access /Q
Although the more common scenario when dealing with mainframes is to use the Tuxedo Mainframe Adapter (TMA). TMA provides a bi-directional transactional gateway between mainframe applications and Tuxedo applications. Using TMA, CICS applications see Tuxedo services as DPL or APPC based transactions, and Tuxedo sees CICS transactions as Tuxedo services. Thus a Tuxedo service (or client) can directly invoke a CICS transaction in exactly the same manner that it invokes another Tuxedo service. The service/client is unaware that the provider of the service invoked is actually some transaction running on CICS. Likewise a CICS application simply uses DPL or APPC to invoke a remote transaction, and that transaction actually ends up being a Tuxedo service running somewhere on Tuxedo. If using the SNA version of the gateway, one can use syncpoint level 2 for guaranteed integrity of updates made both on CICS and Tuxedo.

Select the media pack for your version of oracle. When you drill down there will be several zip files for download. the first two are for the database, the third is ASM/GI

  • Is there a 10.2.0.1 Software Version For zLinux?

    Hello.
I have installed Oracle DB products from 7-11g on many different platforms over the years. With 10g, I usually start with a 10.2.0.1.0 base and pathc upwards. Recently, I was given the task to install 10.2.0 on zLinux. I was given a 10.2.0.2 copy and installed it with no problem. A few weeks later, I was ask if OLS was installed and I noticed it was not. I see that I can install it if I pick the custom option. Here's my question. The OTN Oracle SW DOwnloads page does not show 1 10.2.0.1 version of Oracle DB - only a 10.2.0.2. I assume this is correct/ok, but can someone tell me why there is no 10.2.0.1 copy of the SW?
    Thank you.
