Oracle 8.1.6 Thin Driver with Multiple Result Sets

We're using Oracle 8.1.6 on NT using the latest driver release.
Java 1.2.2
We're experiencing problems with resultSet.next when we have multiple result sets open. What appears to be happening when you've read the last result set entry do a .next() call which should result in a false value we actually get java.sql.SQLException: ORA-01002: fetch out of sequence.
This seems to us that the driver is trying to go beyond the end of the result set.
We've checked JDBC standards (and examples on this site) and the code we've got is compliant. We've also found that the code produces the correct results under Oracle 7.3.4 and 8.0.4.
I can also say that there is no other activity on the db, so there are no issues such as roll back segments coming into play.
Any solutions, help, advice etc would be gratefully appreciated!

By "multiple result sets open", do you mean you are using REF Cursors, or do you have multiple statements opened, each with its own ResultSet? If you could post an example showing what the problem is, that would be very helpful.
You don't happen to have 'for update' clause in your SQL statement, do you?

I'm using the build-in Oracle 8.1.6 thin driver that comes with
weblogic.jar of WebLogic 6.0 SP2. It doesn't store CLOBs. Here I have
to use the class weblogic.jdbc.common.OracleClob. Why?
WebLogic 5.1 SP 9 + Oracle 8.1.6 thin driver (external) does. Here I
use the class oracle.sql.CLOB.
Must I use a OCI driver?

I'd also recommend to switch to 8.1.7 thin driver. It's more stable.

Oracle jdbc9i driver with an 8i database?

I wanted to use the most recent copy of Oracle's jdbc thin client for an app running on WL 6.1SP1. Database is Oracle 8.1.7. Should I use the 8i JDBC driver from Oracle or can I use the newer 9i driver with my 8i database?

but as long as you are not using Oracle extensions I believe it shouldwork
just fine. make sure you put the new classes12.zip file at the begining of
the classpath in the server startup script.

Problem installing oracle in windows on a system with a share drive

I am attempting to install oracle on windows at work. I have access to a share drive that has an oracle inventory. I do not have permission to write here.
When I try to install oracle locally on my C: drive, by default the installation looks in the N: drive oracle inventory and since I do not have privileges to write there, it errors out.
how do i set it so that the installer creates an oracle/inventory locally on my C: drive?

On Windows registry key 'inst_loc' defines the Oracle inventory location,obviously a previous installation set this location to shared drive N: . Unfortunately it's NOT supported to change this , statement from Oracle:
Development have stated that manually changing the "inst_loc" string in the Windows registry (under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Oracle or HKLM\Software\Oracle) is officially unsupported.
You could create a 'clean' machine (remove completely all Oracle components including registry keys and start again with a fresh installation)

Repost in JDBC section ... very serious issue but it may be due to Oracle or
to WL ... does it happen if you test inside WL itself?
How many iterations does it take to blow? How long? Does changing to a
different driver (maybe Cloudscape) have the same result?

Oracle 9.2.0.3 thin with wls 8.1

Hi Folks,
A quick question: we are using wls 8.1 sp2 with oracle 9.2.0.3.
I know that 9.2.0.3 has some problems (leaks for example)and I see that wls 8.1
sp3 will be coming out with 10g driver.
When will SP3 be GA?
can I use 10g driver with oracle 9.2 server?
I will be more then happy to hear any suggestions
or experience with 10g driver and oracle 9.2 server.

You are quite right about it; to be honest I didn't apply post-install steps for the
patch. However, I did this installation before on Solaris 8 following the installation
guide from the main application which also includes Oracle installation and didn't
have any issues as such.
It might well be the case that in Solaris 10, I need to run these. Would you recommend me to read through the whole patch document or is there a standard/straight-forward procedure for this ?

Oracle Forms loading slower with Sun JRE in Oracle E-Business Suite 11i

Hi,
After Deploying Sun JRE (Native Plug-in) for Windows Clients in Oracle E-Business Suite 11i (Note 290807.1) we find that Oracle Forms are loading slower than using Jinitiator.
Also the PDF reports are opening in a minimized fashion. Meaning the PDF reports are opening correctly in new browser window (as expected) but is minimized.
Customer is not willing to go live with Sun JRE due to these issues.
Plz advice is there is any additional configuration I need to do.

When the JRE was installed/configured on the workstations was the jar cache placed on a LAN drive instead of the local drive? We have experienced poor performance with both the JRE and Jinitiator when the Workstation Sysadmins configured the jar cache to be located on a LAN drive. Also is the size of the jar cache on the workstation sufficient to hold all of your required jar files. It could be downloading the jar files all the time.
Overall our performance with the JRE is comparible to the Jinitiator.
Sorry I have not experienced the problem that you are having with you pdf reports so I can't provide any comments on it.

Has anyone created an ODBC driver with Forte? The Microsoft ODBC
Software Development Kit (SDK) assumes that ODBC drivers will be
developed in C. I would like to write the driver in Forte TOOL. Even
though C++ code can be generated from TOOL code, I am not certain that
the generated C++ code will conform to the ODBC API, and be compatible
with other ODBC components, such as the ODBC Driver Manager, ODBC
Installer, and ODBC Test applications supplied by Microsoft with the
ODBC SDK. Any advice would be appreciated. (The purpose of my ODBC
driver is to enable data access by any ODBC client application, using
calls to Forte service objects to retrieve and process the data before

The following is extracted from Oralce's Metalink: (sorry lost the link)
"This is an NLS related issue. The ODBC driver uses the values derived from the NLS_LANG setting from the Oracle Home where the driver is installed.
The application actually uses the number setting from the NT Regional Settings.
When these two settings differ, then the decimal character will be cut off. This behaviour is also described in Bug:694323.
Example:
You have set your NLS_LANG in the ORACLE_HOME of your ODBC driver to GERMAN_GERMANY.WE8ISO8859P1. This will result in a value for the NLS_NUMERIC_CHARACTERS of ",." (the first part of the NLS_NUMERIC_CHARACTERS being the decimal character and the second part being the group separator).
So the "." is used by the Application and the "," is used by the Oracle ODBC driver.
As a result numeric values in your Oracle Database with an integer and a decimal part will thus be displayed by the application without the decimal character, i.e. a value of 10,734 will be displayed as 10734 a value of 0,123 will be displayed as 123.
To fix this, you will either have to correct the character used for the Decimal Symbol of your NT Regional settings to match the value of your Oracle NLS_LANG setting or vice versa. To change the value for NLS_LANG, go to your registry and change the NLS_LANG parameter that is situated under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/ORACLE/HOMEnnn/NLS_LANG where HOMEnnn is the home where your Oracle ODBC driver is installed."

Installing Oracle 9i client on remote PC with out using distrib on cd-rom

I have a such problem. I must install oracle client on a remote PC with no user assistant (with out usin cd-rom, I must use distrib from local hard drive).
When I trying to launch setup file ORACLE 9i from Hard drive I have an error abut using java.
So that I want to ask. may be some one knew ho to install Oracle 9i client from distrib which dispose on local hard drive???

The minimum supported version for windows 7 is 10.2.0.5. Unsupported version may work, but it will create unexpected issues.

If we use Oracle10g client jars then they are working with the 11g database.

As per IBM website link Oracle 11g should be working with WAS 6.1.0.21 upwards
Could somebody please help me regarding the same.

Signal 11 using thin driver with J2ME

I'm trying to use JDBC in a client application on a linux appliance using J2ME (CDC, Foundation Profile with optional JDBC package), but when it tries to load the Oracle driver (oracle.jdbc.pool.OracleDataSource) there is a memory fault. I know it's not a memory allocation or memory size problem, because on my desktop it only allocates 300 K, and I have more than 10 Mb free RAM in the appliance, and I changed all possible memory parameters in the JVM initialization.
At the end of the day, all I need is to connect to an Oracle 8.1.7 database from embedded Linux. Is it possible to use oracle.lite.poljdbc.POLJDBCDriver , the driver for Oracle Lite, instead of the driver in classes12.zip? Will the client work correctly?

Wish to know whether there is a common way to connect to Oracle 11g server using SID or service name.
Earlier I used jdbc:oracle:thin:@<<server>:<<port>>:<<SID>> for connecting to individual Oracle server instances.
Now I need to connect to Oracle RAC which provides service names. So I need to use jdbc:oracle:thin:@<<server>:<<port>>/<<service name>>.
This connection string is internally constructed by a program and user inputs <<server>>, <<port>> and <<SID>> or <<Service Name>>. Now this requires two different connection strings based on the input whether its SID or service name.
Is there a common connection string for these two? Based on some articles like this, I understood that we can generically use jdbc:oracle:thin:@<<server>:<<port>>/<<service>>, whether for SID and service.
When I tried this format with SID, I am getting the below error. What I tried is jdbc:oracle:thin:@myoracleserver:1521/ORCL, where ORCL is the SID
java.sql.SQLException: Listener refused the connection with the following error:
ORA-12514, TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor
Request your help in solving this. What I want is a single connection string whether its SID or service. Any help is of great value.

There are chapters that provide ALL of the connection properties and the rules for creating connection urls.

I know you and your company has done lot of research on (RamSan+Oracle RAC), but it will be nice if you can comment on (FusionIO+RAC) solution. I know no one has used it so far, but I think it is viable, so what do you think?
The reason why I think FusionIO is a good solution for small DBs because it's not a Flash Drive and it costs less than the other SSD solutions available in the market. Also you do not want to buy SAN for small DBs (<250 GB).
But I am too sure about the actual configuration at this point like - gigabit vs 10 gigi NIC, type of interconnect, Fiber Channel, etc.
So I would really appreciate if you can provide some insight.

Oracle OCI 9.0.1 driver

Hi,
Due to past occurrances of "ORA-01002: fetch out of sequence", we switched to use Weblogic OCI driver.
This might have resolved the issue but introduced exceptions straight from the native code. We were recommended to use Oracle OCI 9.0.1 driver.
Our concern is does Oracle OCI resolves the ORA problem too? Appreciate for any feedback.

It sounds like the original poster is talking about a JDBC application (Java). Oracle provides two different JDBC drivers, one that is pure Java and one that makes calls to the OCI libraries on the client machine. The original poster probably meant "OCI JDBC driver". This has nothing to do with developing an OCI application in C yourself.
