Problem installing oracle in windows on a system with a share drive

I am attempting to install oracle on windows at work. I have access to a share drive that has an oracle inventory. I do not have permission to write here.
When I try to install oracle locally on my C: drive, by default the installation looks in the N: drive oracle inventory and since I do not have privileges to write there, it errors out.
how do i set it so that the installer creates an oracle/inventory locally on my C: drive?

On Windows registry key 'inst_loc' defines the Oracle inventory location, obviously a previous installation set this location to shared drive N: . Unfortunately it's NOT supported to change this , statement from Oracle:
Development have stated that manually changing the "inst_loc" string in the Windows registry (under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Oracle or HKLM\Software\Oracle) is officially unsupported.
You could create a 'clean' machine (remove completely all Oracle components including registry keys and start again with a fresh installation)
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/install.102/b14316/deinstall.htm#i1008427
OR - maybe easier - ask your systemadminstrator to grant the necessary privilege.

  • Automated deployments of Windows 7 on systems with multiple hard drives

Last week I helped a customer use MDT2010 to deploy Windows 7 to ThinkStation systems with multiple hard drives.  The customer has multiple HDDs in the system and wants Windows to be installed to the HDD that is connected to SATA port 1.  Unfortunately Windows does not always assign "Disk 0" to the HDD on SATA port 1 - in fact it is completely random what disk ID gets assigned to which SATA port.  The bug is documented by Microsoft in KB937251:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/937251
MDT2010 uses hard-coded disk IDs (0, 1, 2, etc) to specify where Windows gets installed.  And because of the bug, sometimes Windows gets installed to the HDD on SATA port 1 and sometimes it gets installed to a different HDD.
The solution is to install Windows to the HDD identified by the "SELECT DISK SYSTEM" command of DISKPART.  This will always return the disk that is connected to the lowest SATA port.
To configure this in MDT2010, use the following steps (refer to the attachment):
    1. copy "FormatPartition.txt" and "SystemDisk.vbs" to your Scripts folder in the Deployment Share.
    2. in your Task Sequence, disable the existing step called "Format and Partition Disk" (see TaskSequence.jpg)
    3. create a new step at the same location called "Format and Partition Disk (custom)". The type is "General -> Run Command Line". The command line is " cmd.exe /c "diskpart /s %SCRIPTROOT%\FormatPartition.txt" "
    4. on the main screen for Deployment Workbench, right-click on the Deployment Share and select "properties", then click on the "rules" tab
    5. under section [Default], add the following entries (see Rules.jpg)
        - UserExit=SystemDisk.vbs
        - DestinationDisk=#DiskID#
        - DestinationPartition=1
Hopefully this info will help someone else!

  • To install Windows 8 OS on a new iMac using Boot Camp, what size "partition" should I allocate for Windows on a system with 3TB Fusion drive?

I am trying to install Windows on a new iMac w/3TB Fusion drive. The system crashed on my first attempt but appears to have partitioned the drive correctly before crashing???  So, what size partition does Windows 8 need to operate effectively?  Is "more" better??? or just over-kill?  And, has anyone installed Winodow 8 on an iMac...and how did it work?  Would apps like "Parallel Desktop" or "VM Ware Fusion" be a good idea and troubleless?
I will try again but not too confident that it may get worse before it gets better.
    Regards....?
P.S.  I configured this iMac with the i7 processor 3.5GHz with Turbo Boost to 3,9GHz.  When I select "About this Mac" it diplays my i7 processor as a 3.4GHz instead.  Do you think they ran out of the i7 3.5GHz and shoved a i5 3.4Ghz in the iMac to meet deliver schedule???  I there a way to check the real-time speed of my processor??.

It depends on your uses. See > https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3321 Windows 8 works properly in Boot Camp, always that your iMac is compatible > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5634?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US You can only use the 64-bit Windows 8 edition.
Respecting to your processor, you may want to contact with Apple, as they may have sent you the iMac with a wrong processor

    Here are some possible solutions:
    1. The installation notes state that you must be logged on as Administrator to be able to install 9i. Are you logged on as the Administrator? Being logged on as user01 with Administrator priviledges isn't the same as Administrator.
    2. Is the disk full? If I remember my installation correctly, I needed 3 times the size of the files. The documentation will tell you how much space you need.
    Hope these two questions help

  • Problems Installing Oracle 8i on Gateway laptop W/ 1.6 GHz CPU

I'm having problems installing Oracle 8i on a Gateway 600X with a 1.6 GHz CPU and Windows 2000 Professional. The Install/DeInstall screen appears, I click Install/Deinstall, the screen disappears, the hourglass disappears a couple seconds later, and the the install ends without any messages. I tried installing on slower machines and the software seems to install correctly. Is there an issue with Intel's new Mobile Pentium 4 processors or Gateway's laptops?
    Thanks,
    Mike

have a look in your $ORACLE_HOME/dbs directory. If the init<ORACLE_SID>.ora file has remote_login_password=exclusive then you should also have a file called orapw<ORACLE_SID>. If you haven't, then create one by running "orapwd file=orapw<ORACLE_SID> password=internal entries=5".
This has worked for me in the past, hope it helps.

I had the same question and this is what I found on the next page(s):
You have to install Personal 8i for Windows 98.
However, do the following before you begin to install: modify your WIN.INI file, in section [Compatibility95], adding Jew=0x00080000. Reboot your system and install.
I found this out, so I have not tried it myself.
Please confirm if it works. I will do too.

  • Can I install EP in windows 7 Operating system

    Hi All,
    I have a question.
Can I install EP and SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio on windows 7 Operating system?
If any one has install it on Windows 7 operating system please guide me.
    Thanks
    Divyanshu

    Hi Divyanshu,
The SPS21 support is only a client support (IE8 on Win7 will be fully supported from SPS21 on). There is no official support for the server being installed on Win7. Anyhow, with the XP mode (Windows Virtual PC), it should be possible; the integration of the XP mode into Win 7 is known as quite elegant, even if I have not watched it yet.
Nevertheless, I will give this combination a try in a few weeks, as soon as my new laptop arrives...
NWDS is a problem on 64bit (as far as I see, most power users install Win7-64 instead of Win7-32); see NWDS not working in 64 bit windows vista os for further details. Anyhow, you can go the XP-mode way also for this. As my new notebook will arrive in ~2 weeks, I will play around with the suggestions I have made by my own. So, if I have enough time, maybe I will post a blog some day in July/August/...
Also see NDWS on Windows 7 with some valuable hints.
    Hope this helps

  • Problem installing Oracle 9iAS on Win2000

    Hi everybody,
    I have problem installing Oracle 9iAS 1.0.2.2.2.a on Win2000.
The process instalation stops when the instalation bar shows 100% complete and copying welcome.html . After that, other processes should start, but it does not happen.
I have installed in an other machine an Oracle 8.1.7 release 3 and I set up parameters as described into documentation. I didn4t applied any patch because I was using release 3 already.
    I have 1GB RAM , 1.5 Gb of virtual memory , 2 processors 1,3 Ghz,
and 10 Gb on HD target on both servers(Database and Application Server).
Does anybody have a sugestion ?
    Thanks.

Kevin, I don't which version of 9iAS you are trying to install, but as far as I can tell no 9i versions of the application server are certified against Windows 2003, only 10g is certified against Windows 2003. So what's probably happening is the installer doesn't recognize Windows 2003 and thinks it's a non-patched version of Windows 2000. You should either install Windows 2000 SP1 (minimum) or install Oracle 10gAS.

  • Problem installing itunes on windows 8 64bit. Installation gets stuck on Status: (blank) literally blank

Problem installing itunes on windows 8 64bit. Installation gets stuck on Status: (blank) literally blank. I really need to install this since I have only 1 PC and i just bought the new iPhone 6.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

  • Problem Installing Oracle Linux 6.3 - 'Disc not found message box'

I'm trying to install Oracle linux on a old laptop. Single disk drive.
I downloaded V33412-01Oracle Linux Release 6 Update 3 Boot iso image for x86_64 (64 bit)
burned it as an ISO image on a CD.
Inserted the CD,started the system, cd booted and the installation started.
Skipped the verify media (I verifed it during another installation try)
    selected English
    selected US
When prompted for installation method, I tried selecting 'LOCAL CD/DVD' since that's where my CD is at. I get a 'Disc not found message box'.
I've also tried to select the /dev/sda1, which the installation accepted, only to fail later saying it can't find the ISO image.
I also tried putting the ISO image and unzipping the contents of the file onto a USB stick and selcting this during the install - same error.
I tried putting V33413-01 onto the USB stick and selcting that - its too big to burn on a CD, that didn't work..
Any ideas here? Though this was a easy installation but I'm scratching my head as to how to continue?

Not very clearly - for me at least.
Not sure - and not sure where to find instructions on how to do this.
It mentions that you don't need the source CDs
    Oracle Linux Release 6 Update 3 source DVD 1 V33413-01 3.1G
    Oracle Linux Release 6 Update 3 source DVD 2 V33414-01 1.7G
Not sure what to do with these anyway.
    Installation
To install Oracle Linux 6.3 from DVD media, follow the following steps:
    1. Download the compressed binary DVD images
Download Oracle Linux 6.3 DVD from the Oracle Software Delivery Cloud.
You do not need to download source DVDs to install Oracle Linux.
    2. Verify the downloaded media
Verify the downloaded file by comparing its sha1sum or md5sum with the published
    sha1sum or md5sum.
    3. Write the DVD image to DVD
Use your favorite cd burning software to write these images directly to DVD.
You should not simply copy the files onto the DVD. You must use a DVD burner
that can accept an ISO image as input, and which can create a bootable DVD
from it. To test if you have burned the images correctly, insert a burned
DVD and ensure that multiple files and directories are visible.
    6. Insert the DVD, and boot
Insert the DVD into your system, boot from DVD, and follow the on-screen instructions
    to deploy Oracle Linux!

  • Should both x64 and x32 be installed on OS Windows 7 64bit system?

I noticed that both versions (x64 and x32) of Adobe Photoshop programs were downloaded and installed in my Windows 7 x64 system, is this correct?

Yes, it is perfectly fine. Both versions install. PS comes as both a traditional 32-bit application and a 64-bit version for systems with the processor and operating system to run 64-bits.
    From Adobe:
"The primary advantage of using the 64-bit version of Photoshop is to access amounts of RAM beyond what Photoshop can access as a 32-bit application. Photoshop can take the best advantage of more than 4 GB of RAM only if it runs as a 64-bit application".
