Oracle 11g, default backup job

I installed Oracle DB 11g R2...
and I know there's a default backup job running at 22h (10 p.m.) every day.
How could I found this job and turn it off?
what kind of backup is doing that job?

all documentation is at http://tahiti.oracle.com , 7 x 24 hour per day.

  • Can we restore oracle 11g RMAN backups to 10g server

    Hi,
I have RMAN backups (full backup)of oracle 11g database. My server was suddenly crashed due to hardware failure.
We have another Oracle 10g server. Is it possible to restore RMAN backups of 11g database to Oracle 10g server???
    Thanks

I don't have 11g server ready with me. The other server running oracle 10g and I dont have rights to install oracle 11g on the 10g server. So I can not test the RESTORE/RECOVER commands.
If anyone had experience in the past, please let me know whether we can RESTORE RMAN backups of 11g database to oracle 10g server...
    Thanks

  • Oracle 11g Database Backup

    hi,
How do we take a schedule backup from oracle 11g db. i am now taking manually using EXP.
i am looking similar to MS SQL Server scedule backup.

The easiest way would be to do it through the EM of 11g. Its the gui interface of RMAN but it would appear quite simple from EM. As told already, search about this as well and you would get many hits.

  • Oracle 11g XE - Backup

Can someone tell me what is the the difference between 'Take a full database backup vs Backup database'? I performed a backup a couple of days ago, but I need to simulate a database failure and prior to doing so, I need to backup the database so that I can see the changes.
    Thank you.

Pl post OS details and a link to the document you are following. Most likely there is no difference between the two

  • Step by Step EXP / IMP database from Oracle 9i to Oracle 11g

Please help on the captioned where I did the below
    1. Use EXP to export the database from a Oracle9i database (O9_DB) OLD_Windows2003_SERVER
    2. Install the Oracle 11g (default service name is ORCL) to a new Windows 2003 server and use the IMP to import the O9_DB, however, I need to create the same physical path as the OLD_Windows2003_SERVER (e.g E:\Oralce_9i\Ordata\) in order to complete the IMP
    3. I can launch the SQL Developer and obtain the records count of evey tables being imported
However, is there any best / proper way to do the EXP/IMP, the ideal outcome would be
    1. Create a new namespace say (OLDDB) which same as the Oracle9i database name so maybe I don't need to modify much on the application side to point to the new database ?
    2. IMP the OLDDB to the new namespace OLDDB
    Thanks in advance

    Hello,
If you create the new Database on a new Server, you could keep the same name for the Database.
To switch from the old Database to the new one, you'll have to change the hostname on the "tnsnames.ora" or in any configuration file which define the database connexion.
About the best way to do the Export/Import, you may have some details on the link below:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e10819/expimp.htm#i262317
Else, why do you intend to stay on a Windows 2003 Server, why not moving to Windows 2008 ?
NB: Oracle *11.1* is certified on Windows 2008 and Oracle *11.2* is certified on Windows 2008 R2.
    Hope this help.
    Best regards,
    Jean-Valentin

  • Are backup notifications in Oracle 11g DB covered in notification rules

I had a query whether a notification for backup job completion in Oracle 11g database is covered in the notification rules section available in enterprise manager. I could not find any other way of sending notification from EM so was wondering if the notification for backup job completion is covered in the notification rules section.
Please revert with the reply to my query.
    Regards

My understanding from your answer is as follows:-
    1) The email addresses have to be entered in Preferences->General. Say I enter [email protected] & [email protected]
    2) In Preferences->Notification Schedule, we can specify either of [email protected] or [email protected] and we cannot specify [email protected] as it is not included in Preferences->General?
I have tried to put the observations as examples, request you to please check and revert with examples if my understanding is not correct.

  • Shell script for export backup in oracle 11g

    Hi,
    Oracle version 11.2.0..
    O/S-AIX
How to write shell script for export full backup in oracle 11g and also need to remove 2 days of old backup.
    Regards,
    Raju

How to write shell script for export full backup in oracle 11g
Do you mean that export is your backup strategy ? is your database running in noarchivelog mode ? if so, then why ? if not so, then why not RMAN ?
need to remove 2 days of old backup.
If that mean remove files older than 2 days, you can use something like this :
    $ find <absolute directory path> -mtime +2 -exec rm {} \;

  • How to take a backup manually in oracle 11g express edition?

how to take a backup manually in oracle 11g express edition? i want to take backup of a database and want to restore later on on a different computer .

Stop database, and copy all files to another machine. That sounds to me to be the closest answer to the question posted. And perhaps the easiest solution.
Install XE on the "another machine", shut it down. Shutdown the source database. Copy the datafiles to the new host. Startup your "new" database, it will be an exact clone of the original.
To find out what files need to be copied, as system (or sysdba) run:
    select name from v$datafile;
    ... file1, file2 ...
    show parameter control
    ... control_files ... file1 ...
    alter database backup controlfile to trace [reset logs];
    show parameter diag;
... diagnostic_dest ... <drive:>|/diag_pathTo do a proper database clone its better to recreate the controlfile and reset the archive sequence number- leave out the controlfile copy part. In the diag_path location find the trace file under diag/rdbms/$ORACLE_SID/<db_name>/trace it should be the latest ora*.trc file.
The trace file has the commands to recreate the controlfile, which includes the datafiles and putting the tempfile back in place. If the datafiles are in a different location, i.e. in Windows going to a different drive, or you want do put datafiles in a different folder location, the create controlfile statement is the easiest time to get the file directories right.
If you add the "reset logs" qualifier (don't use the brackets!) you'll get just the reset logs version of the create controlfile statement, otherwise you'll get both NORESETLOGS and RESETLOGS versions of a create controlfile statement, run one or the other. Not both. Not the entire trace file, just the create controlfile, alter database open [reset logs], alter tablespace temp add tempfile ... bits. No recovery is needed for a database that is shutdown when datafiles get copied to a new location/host.

  • RMAN backup is getting failed after oracle 11g upgarde (11.2.0.2)

    Hi Basis Expert,
We have done oracle 11g ugrade (11.2.0.2) in our Dev BI system.
But after the upgrade the RMAN backup is failing. The backup use to work fine when we were on 10g (10.2.0.4).
Has anyone face this issue earlier.
    Appreciate your help.
    Regards,
    Anil Shenoy

    Hello Anil,
    Syntax is -
    ln -s /path/to/original/ /path/to/linkName
    Output will be -
    linkName --> original
In your case, 112_64 is the link name according to above SAP Note and 11202 is the original/physical path. So, the command should be -
    ln -s /oracle/<DBSID>/11202 /oracle/<DBSID>/112_64
And the Result should be, 112_64 --> 11202 (in short)
So, I think you should change the existing link, 11202->112_64
    Thanks

  • In oracle 11g , which is default server

i am creating oracle 11g database using responsefile . could you please let me know which is the default server in oracle11g . either dedicated or shared server .

    841731 wrote:
and also can plese let me know , how i will check if my db is running dedicated or shared server .Then you still didn't understand Pierre's response.
The database doesn't run in "dedicated" or "shared" mode. It just runs. Clients request a "dedicated" or "shared" connection. The reason they are referred to as shared or dedicated "servers" is NOT a reference to the database. When a client connects to a database instance, that connection is via a "server" process. That process is separate and apart from the db instance. If the client requested a dedicated server (connection) then the listener creates that dedicated server process at the time of the request, the server process deals only with that one client connection, and it terminates when the client dis-connects.
If the client requested a 'shared server', then the listener sets up the connection through a "dispatcher". Like the dedicated server, the dispatcher is separate and apart from the database instance. But unlike the dedicated server, it may pre-exist prior to any specific client connection request, it services multiple client connections, and it survives the disconnect of any one client.
The database instance itself always supports "dedicated server", and may, if configured properly, support "shared server".
I leave it to you to re-visit the Concepts Manual for further details.

    Oracle 11g - Non Oracle JOB ?
    =====================
I hope this is the right forum for this issue, if not let me, where to go.
We are using Oracle 11g (11.2.0.1.0) on (Platform : solaris[tm] oe (64-bit)), Sql Developer 3.0.04
    1) We are loading table using PL/SQL -- > at Oracle server.
    2) This data is consumed by Mainframe DB2 process -- > at DB2 server.
    3) Return us another table with derived data from DB2 -- > at DB2 server.
There is a IBM JCL read our table and return a Oracle table with calculated data.
Do we able to automate a process using PL/SQL to start the IBM JCL upon loading the table Step (1)?
    Are there any alternate approach?
    Thanks in helping us.

    Hello,
I read the DBMS_SCHEDULER pieces. We need to create a job (Pl/sql procedure or shell script) to configure the DBMS_SCHEDULER.
If we are going to do such thing in the server, where our current Oracle DB instance located, we can perform desired tasks via jobs. No issues.
I reviewed the components within DBMS_SCHEDULER to start job on another server, where there is no Oracle DB instance running. I did not find any clue/pointer on the referred doc.
Do we need any additional components to do such things?
We are on Server A with Oracle DB 11g and Server B with Non-Oracle and no Oracle Instance running there.
How do we create a Job J1 on Server A, where it will request Server B to start a Job J2 in Non-Oracle instance?
Do we have a component within DBMS_Scheduler to do that?
    Thanks in helping.

I posted on other forum, but I did not find resposnes there, so I am posting it here.

There is a IBM JCL that read our table and return an Oracle table with calculated data.
    Is it doable?

Are there any metalink notes to address this situation?

    Hi,
Since your talking about interfacing between Oracle and DB2 where 3 sequential steps are to be taken, I would recommend to use a UNIX shell script to kick off the seperate steps.
I have no experience whatsoever with DB2, so I can't tell you if you would be able to start a JCL ( DB2 Job ?? ) from within the oracle database.
Otherwise you would need a kind of polling mechanism where the DB2 database checks for a certain value (table value) existence in order to start its work

  • Oracle 11g OEM job issue

    Hi all,
After Oracle 11g migration, i have been facing issues in OEM scheduling. Twice the job did not run even after 11.2.0.7 upgrade. Hence i would like to explore the possibility of scheduling the same in DBMS jobs (we have not faced even a single failure since migration). However there is no mail alert available for successful completion of the job. In this regard i would like to have your views and help to create alerts to proceed further.
