Oracle 11g - External Table/Remote File Issue?
Oracle 11g - External Table/Remote File Issue?
=============================
I hope this is the right forum for this issue, if not let me, where to go.
We are using Oracle 11g (11.2.0.1.0) on (Platform : solaris[tm] oe (64-bit)), Sql Developer 3.0.04
We are not allowed to put files on the CSV file system (Server A), where DB instance is running. We are able place CSV files on another server(Server B), where DB instance is not running.
We are trying to use oracle external table to load text files in .CSV format.
How do we create a Directory (Create Directory) on Server A DB to point to File system of Server B?
Is it feasible?
Any idea?
Thanks in helping.
The Solaris DBA should be able to mount the filesystem for you. Either that or you have to get creative transferring the file like this;
http://www.linkedin.com/groups/Getting-creative-external-table-preprocessor-140609.S.50474382?qid=ba673ce4-c4bb-40c5-8367-52bd2a2dfc80&trk=group_search_item_list-0-b-ttl&goback=%2Egmp_140609

It created successfully using SQL Developer
Here is the issue.
It is not loading the records, where fields are enclosed in '"' (Rec # 2,3,4,7)
It is loading all NULL value record (Rec # 6)
*** If we remove the '"' from input data, it loads all records including all NULL records
Log file has

Our questions
Why did "REJECT ROWS WITH ALL NULL FIELDS" not working?
Why did Terminated by "," OPTIONALLY ENCLOSED BY '"' not working?
Any idea?
Thanks in helping.I don't think this is a SQLDeveloper issue. You will get better answers in the Database - General or perhaps SQL and PL/SQL forums.

Edited by: qwe16235 on Jun 11, 2011 11:31 AMI'm not sure, but maybe you should get rid of the redundancy that you have in your CREATE TABLE statement.
This line covers all fields:
FIELDS TERMINATED BY "," OPTIONALLY ENCLOSED BY '"'
{code}
So I would change the field list to:
{code}
DATE1 CHAR (10),
DATE2 CHAR (10),
POL_PRTY CHAR (30),
P_NAME CHAR (30),
P_ROLE CHAR (5)
{code}
It worked on my installation. -

Note that I had to interchange the two lines:

REJECT ROWS WITH ALL NULL FIELDS
Just to get the access parameters to parse correctly.
I added two empty lines, one in the middle and one at the end - both were rejected.

Accesing windows files using oracle unix external tables.
Hi, I'm trying to access files on windows2k using oracle external tables on unix:
Oracle server on unix: oracle ver. is 9.2.0.6 and OS is 5.8 Generic_117000-03 sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire
1. Created dir object on oracle unix pointing to windows path
2. created user
3. Assigned read and write privs on dir to user
4. created external table using dir step 1
5. select on external table
When I FTP the files into unix and recreate dir object, it works, but if I point dir object into windows path, it fails.
Is possible to do this?
Tks
GAPHi
The directory object must be accesible to your Database server, so if the Database is in unix you must create the directory in unix.
I don´t know software that allow unix systems to see a windows file system. Maybe windows can see unix from a samba server or NFS. -
Oracle 11g R2 Client Silent Installation Issue (PATH) Windows 7 x86
Hi All,
I'm hoping somebody can shed some light on this issue.
I created a Response file using the 'Save Response File' method during an interactive installation on a Windows 7 Enterprise x86 client. (file enclosed)
I have installed it multiple times now with multiple permutations of the command line (got caught out by the old lower case F in responseFile) but now I'm getting the same error each time (a critical error with the PATH according to the installation log). There is nothing wrong with the path length as the installation works fine in GUI mode and passes the Prereq check.
I launch the command line to install (with Run As Administrator) - "[location of setup.exe]\setup.exe" -nowait -silent -responseFile "[location of response file]\Oracle11gv2.rsp"

Oracle 11g unreasonable large data file that can't be shrunk
I got this Oracle 11g installed on my win7 just for running my local application. In the Enterprise Manager the "USERS" tablespaces shows over 12g for allocated size, about 1g for Space Used(also see the table snippet below), only about 8% of space is used. However, when I tried to shrink the data file/space even to half of its current size, both from command line(resize) and Enterprise Manager, i got the error that says "Failed to commit: ORA-03297: file contains used data beyond requested RESIZE value ". I was able to resize my TEMP tablespace successfully with the same command.
Any insight on this? thanks a lot. I'm about to run out my hard drive space.

You have an object stored at the end of the datafile, you will need to move it down the file (or to another tablespace) before you can shrink the file. I though OEM had a "tablespace map" feature to help you see what objects were located where but if not, see:In EM (or 10g dbconsole, at any rate), you select a tablespace, drop down menu Show Tablespace Contents, then there is a tablespace map icon to expand the map. It can be slow. Then you can scroll down to the bottom, scroll up and look for where the last non-green extents are. Also, you can find the beginning of datafiles (if you have multiple data files in the tablespace) by watching for purple header blocks. Hovering over the segments gives information, and clicking on them (or selecting segments in the contents list up above) shows where all the extents are in yellow. I haven't tried the reorganize link... -
Helllo Everyone.
I am new to external tables concept and I have only used using flat files.
Is there a complete reference on on external tables somewhere?
Also, instead of .csv or text based datafiles, can I use XML as data source for these external tables? If so, how?
Thanks,
RThe link to the documentation has been already posted.
About the xml as a possible datasource, in Oracle9i only the ORACLE_LOADER driver is supported, it allows you to read data using SQL*Loader, that is to say only plain text files.
In Oracle10g a new driver has been added: ORACLE_DATAPUMP, it allows you to read with an external table a dump file created from other Oracle tables using the same ORACLE_DATAPUMP driver.
Unfortunately the ORACLE_DATAPUMP driver doesn't support the XMLTYPE datatype:
SQL> desc tbl_xml
Nome Nullo? Tipo
XML PUBLIC.XMLTYPE
SQL> CREATE TABLE xml_ext
2 ORGANIZATION EXTERNAL
3 (
4 TYPE ORACLE_DATAPUMP
5 DEFAULT DIRECTORY DATA_PUMP_DIR
6 LOCATION ('xml_ext.dmp')
7 )
8 AS SELECT * FROM tbl_xml;
CREATE TABLE xml_ext
ERRORE alla riga 1:

Network location for external table's file
Hi,
I am trying to import data from a csv file in oracle 10g database. I can successfully upload data from a csv file located on server itself using external table. But when I redefine directory object on a folder on network location, it doesn't work. Is that a limitation with external tables to access data from a file on network location.
Any clarifications and suggestions would be highly appreciated.
Thanks,
AniketHi Nicolas,
I created a directory object pointing to a folder on a system(Other than Oracle 10g server) in the network. This folder is shared and can be accessed from the Oracle 10g server. When I create an external table with the default directory as the shared folder it couldn't read the csv file from that folder ( Shared folder on another system).
But when I redefined the directory object on a local folder which was on Oracle 10g server, it could read from csv file in the local folder using external table.
My understanding is using external tables, one can only read files that are on the local machine i.e. Oracle 10g server and not on a different system.
Please correct me if i am wrong. Any further suggestions would be highly appreciated.
Regads,
Aniket -
SSIS Oracle 11g 64 bit client upgrade Issue
After the oracle client upgrade from 10g to 11g, the ssis jobs are getting failed for the BadImageFormatException. Attempt to load Oracle client libraries threw This problem will occur when running in 64 bit mode with the 32 bit Oracle client components installed.
But the same package with same system requirements and same sql agent configuration is wroking fine in DIT. Please find below the system configuration in both environment.
DIT
Oracle Client - Oracle 11g 64 bit , Microsoft SQL Server - 32 and 64bit, Windows machine - 64 bt SP4, In job there is no configuration in command line to run in 32 bit mode since we are using the are using the .Net Provider/OracleClient Data Provider connection manager to the database .
UAT :
Oracle Client - Oracle 11g 64 bit , Microsoft SQL Server - 32 and 64bit, Windows machine - 64 bt SP4, In job there is no configuration in command line to run in 32 bit mode
In UAT, Everything looks as DIT but the job is not working fine in DIT.
I have gone through all the thread related to 32 64 bit, .Net Oracle client provide but i haven't found any solution for this problem.
Can you please tell me the missed out configuration in DIT and UAT? the exact problem for this issue ? what is the oracle components required for this connection? Its urgent.
What is missing in the oracle end?
Thanks
Satheesh32 bit apps will need 32 bit Oracle client software installed.
Hope it helps,
Greg -
I am using external table in my query and it works fine, just I want to create log file or bad file if any in different folder currently it create in same folder where data file (CSV) exists.
create or replace directory data_dir as 'c:\temp\'You can specify one or many of the following options:
NOBADFILE NODISCARDFILE NOLOGFILEIn the ACCESS PARAMETERS portion of your table definition.
Hope this helps! -

I have recently installed oracle 11g. It was running fine for a few days and then i get errors like 'TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor'. I checked this out and the reason i get these errors is because the machine that i am running oracle on is using all of its available memory.
The reason that this is occurring appears to be the 10+ instances of perl.exe that are running on it.
When i restart the machine there are 2 instances of perl.exe, but over time they multiply until the memory is used up.
Any ideas on why this is occurring or how to fix it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advanceBecause of perl.exe I guess you're talking about an installation on Windows. What you see is not a bug, these perl instances belong to Enterprise Manager dbconsole. Perl processes are opened and closed permanently, especially during dbconsole startup you may see 10 and more. When these processes fill up the available memory, I think your machine has not enough RAM. Either add more RAM or - as a workaround - don't start dbconsole.
