check the windows services if the OracleDBConsoleORCL is running, if not then start it
it there is no such service, you need to configure dbconsole http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e25494/dbcontrol002.htm#BEJJBJAA

How to load date field from a remote Oracle DB with DB Connect
Hi,
Does any one have experience extracting Date field from a remote Oracle database through DB Connect to BW? I am experiencing data format issue. The extracted data shows '04-Oct-0' for '10/4/05'. It works fine if I create a view in Oracle database to preformat the data to '20051004'. But, I am not allowed to create view in Remote DB.
Any suggestion is very appreciated.
Regards,
FrankYou have to change it to a varchar2 field. YYYYMMDD. I do not know of any other option.

Protect single instance linux Oracle 11Gr2 with Clusterware 11Gr2 non-RAC
Hi All,
I saw this link, but it mentions RAC as a solution:
Using Oracle Clusterware to Protect A Single Instance Oracle Database 11g
I have seen various articles about protecting single instance with cold failover using clusterware, but they mention scripts and older versions of Clusterware. I am trying to figure out if possible to incorporate virtual ip's / scan listeners or if this is even a supported configuration...
I have set up clusterware 11gr2 using OCFS2. I basically just want to do a cold failover from one node to the other, and I do not wish to purchase a RAC license...
thanks much

Unable to connect to oracle source with SSIS connection manager
I have oracle drivers installed and I am trying to connect to oracle database by using SSIS with oracle provider
Oledb but receiving error as:
Test connection failed because of an error in initializing provider. No error message available, result code: E_UNEXPECTED(0x8000FFFF).Any suggestions
Thanks..http://sqlblog.com/blogs/jorg_klein/archive/2011/06/09/ssis-connect-to-oracle-on-a-64-bit-machine.aspx
Solution
Download the Oracle 11G full client.
Install the 32 AND the 64 bit version of the
11G full client (Installation Type: Administrator) and reboot the server afterwards. The 32 bit version is needed for development from BIDS with is 32 bit, the 64 bit version is needed for production with the SQLAgent, which is 64 bit.
Configure the Oracle clients (both 32 and 64 bits) by editing the files
tnsnames.ora and
sqlnet.ora. Try to do this with an Oracle DBA or, even better, let him/her do this.
Use the "Oracle provider for OLE DB" from SSIS, don't use the "Microsoft Provider for Oracle" because a 64 bit version of it does not exist.
Schedule your packages with the SQLAgent.

Oracle 11gR2 Installation on Win7 Pro (Net Configuration Assistant failed)
Hi Guys,
I am trying to install Oracle 11gR2 on a new Window7 Professional Laptop.
I get the error "[INS-20802] Oracle Net Configuration Assistant failed." at time of Oracle Database configuration.
Log files says

I did read through the DHCP issues and installed the Loopback adaptor and configured the "Oracle_HostName" system variable.
I tried both plugging in/out the network cable (If Plugged in my laptop is connected to a work group).
Anyhelp ASAP is appreciated.No Srini,
I opted to create a starter database as part of the installation.
The error occurs "during installation" while trying to do the database configurations.
(I did try once without installing and configuring the Loopback adapter (With and without plugging into the network).
Later I read some of the problems with DHCP and installed/configured the Loopback adapter.
Then tried Installing Oracle 11gR2 (With and without plugging into the network)
But end up getting stuck at the same Net Configuration Assistant failure).
Any advise ?
By the way, thanks for the support.

Connecting Excel 2010 64 bit on Windows 7 64 bit to Oracle 11gR2 on Linux
Using:
Excel 2010 64 bit
Windows 7 64 bit
Oracle instant client 11.2.0.1 64 bit
connecting to Oracle 11gR2 64 bit on Linux 5.8 64 bit
I have created a User DSN in Windows called "NITRO Oracle 11gR2 DB" using the Oracle 64 bit instant client driver 11.2.0.1. Configured as so
http://i.imgur.com/2a3MZ.png
Connection test is successful.
In Excel 2010, I go to Data ribbon, From Data Connection Wizard
http://i.imgur.com/han3u.png
I then choose Other/Advanced, and then Oracle Provider for OLE DB.
http://i.imgur.com/w3P1c.png
I click next and then put in the data source, user name and password and click test, and it fails with Micosoft Data Link Error. http://i.imgur.com/zuv41.png
Do you know what I'm doing wrong?12154 means the client couldn't resolve what you filled in for Data Source. What did you fill in for Data Source when configuring the OLEDB connection? It looks like "nitro" should be the correct thing to fill in, based on your statement that the ODBC DSN you configured works with it.

32-bit ODAC 11.2.0.2.1 Installed on Win7 X64 with Oracle 11gR2 x64
I have Visual Studio 2010 x64 installed on a Win7 x64 Enterprise system, along with Oracle Express Edition 11gR2 x64. I downloaded and installed 32-bit ODAC 11.2.0.2.1 so I could use Oracle databases with Visual Studio, along with SQL Server.
When I tried to run InstallAllOracleASPNETProviders.sql in SqlExplorer, I got an error
D:\app\PaulK\product\11.2.0\client_1\ocijdbc11.dll: Can't load IA 32-bit .dll on a AMD 64-bit platform. Vendor code 0.
Everything was working fine before I installed ODAC 11.2.0.2.1.
I've seen references to a beta x64 version of ODAC. Where do I find it? Do I have to uninstall the 32-bit ODAC first? Will uninstalling the 32-bit ODAC fix SqlExplorer?
Thanks.PaulK wrote:
I have Visual Studio 2010 x64 installed on a Win7 x64 Enterprise system, along with Oracle Express Edition 11gR2 x64. Not sure I follow. Neither VS 2010 or XE 11.2 exists in a 64-bit release. What precisely do you have installed?
I downloaded and installed 32-bit ODAC 11.2.0.2.1 so I could use Oracle databases with Visual Studio, along with SQL Server.Since VS is a 32-bit app (though it can run on 64-bit OS and produce 64-bit binaries), it needs 32-bit libraries, yes.
Is MS SQL Server instance a 32-bit or a 64-bit install? Perhaps both 32-bit and 64-bit clients are needed for planned setup.
D:\app\PaulK\product\11.2.0\client_1\ocijdbc11.dll: Can't load IA 32-bit .dll on a AMD 64-bit platform. Vendor code 0.It seems you are running SQL Developer on a 64-bit java machine. The 64-bit jvm obviously can't load a 32-bit dll, which I'm guessing was found via the 32-bit ODAC's PATH entry. Entry was listed first since Client/ODAC was installed last. Did you use Connection type TNS in SQL Developer? (Or Use OCI/Thick driver ticked in the database / advanced options, in Preferences.)
What's the version of SQL Developer?
Everything was working fine before I installed ODAC 11.2.0.2.1.If I'm correct in various assumptions, you have to cater for different environments/requirements.
E.g to run SQL Developer with correct set of libs.
set PATH=<path to libraries for sql developer/jvm>;<remaining PATH stuff>
x:\some\path\here\sqldeveloper.exe
Another way could be to use Instant Client and drop required lib files (.dll) in proper location within SQL Developer home. (So that it will find proper dlls directly in "cwd" instead of searching via PATH.)
I've seen references to a beta x64 version of ODAC. Where do I find it? There are both production and beta releases.

Cannot connect to Oracle 11gR2 database from SQL Server 2005
Both SQL Server (Windows) and Oracle (Linux) are in 64bit environments.
I have done the following on a Windows 2008 R2 with SQL Server 2005:
Install InstantClient from Oracle Database 11g Release 2 Client (11.2.0.1.0) for Microsoft Windows (x64) to C:\Oracle
Install oledb from 64-bit ODAC 11.2 Release 3 (11.2.0.2.1) for Windows x64 by executing install.bat oledb c:\oracle odac
Note: Not sure whether 11.2.0.2.1 version of ODAC will cause any problem since I cannot find 11.2.0.1.0 version.
I have checked the Allow inprocess of OraOLEDB.Oracle provider in SSMS.
I have executed sp_addlinkedserver @server = 'ORACLE_TEST', @srvproduct = 'Oracle', @provider = 'OraOLEDB.Oracle', @datasrc = '##.##.##.##:1521/TEST'
The ##.##.##.## is the ip address of the Linux server which has the Oracle 11gR2 database TEST.
I have executed sp_addlinkedsrvlogin @rmtsrvname = 'ORACLE_TEST', @useself = 'FALSE', @rmtuser = 'xxxx', @rmtpassword = 'yyyy'
The xxxx is the oracle username and yyyy is the password for the oracle user xxxx.
I know the oracle database TEST is up since I have setup connection in Oracle SQL Developer having:
##.##.##.## as the hostname
1521 as the Port
xxxx as the username
yyyy as the password
TEST as the service name
When I click Test Connection for the linked server ORACLE_TEST in SSMS, it just hang.
When I issue a query like select count(*) from oracle_test..xxxx.table1, it just run forever. I'm not so sure how to query an oracle table. I have also tried select count(*) from oracle_test.xxxx.xxxx.table1.
When I retype the password in the Linked Server Properties, it just run forever.
Do I need to create a tnsnames.ora on the Windows machine?
Do I need to change the tnsnames.ora on Linux machine?
I'm very new to Oracle. This forum is dealing with connections from an Oracle database to SQL Server - so the Oracle database is the driving site and this is the way round from your linked server set up.
As you're suing the instant client you might post your issue in the instant client forum:

Rafid WahabOther solution:
on refresh period, default value is 1 minute, force this value at 0 and your connection
is ok.

Redo the pool definition, and set 'test connection on reserve'. Don't
set 'test connections on release', and leave refresh minutes alone.
add a test table. DUAL is perfect for that. Everything else seems
fine.
