Oracle 8.1.7: Problems of runInstaller

It is my first time to install Oracle8i (8.1.7) on LINUX. I could not run the runInstaller file.
When I typed:
$ . runInstaller
I got a error message: cant run a binary file .
Can someone tell me how to run this file?
PS. I downloaded the linux81701.tar to my PC Windows2000 and burned the file to a CD. Then I extracted the file at Linux using
$ tar xf C <mydirectory>.
Then I tried to run the runInstaller in that directory. Is it the right way to do so?
thanks

Thanks Benjamin,
I tried
$ ./runInstaller
and it works.
but I got new problem, as soon as the runInstaller started, I got a message like "the client was refused by the sever", "can't connect by localhost:0.0"
something like that. I set the display according to the menu:
$DISPLAY=localhost:0.0
$export DISPLAY
but when I tried to do the following:
$xhost +localdomain
it returns some errors:
$ xhost can't connect to localhost:0.0 (something like this)
I. did I set up my DISPLAY currect? since i didn't define my workstation name during RH7.0 installation, I assum my workstation name is "localhost" which allways shown up on top of the penal "[email protected]" or "[email protected]"
II. is there any way to get this set up right?
thanks!
James

  • How to solve Oracle SQL Developer connection problem ?

    Folks,
    Hello. I am using Oracle Database 11gR1. The Database Control Console https://localhost.localdomain:1158/em works correctly. I can create a Database and a table successfully.
    My OS is Linux and connects to internet successfully.
    In order to run SQL statements. we need to use Oracle SQL Developer. I connect Oracle SQL Developer in the following way:
    Connection Name: DB1 (this is my database name as well)
    Username: SYS (this is the user name I used to login to the Console)
    Password: SYS (this the password used to login to the Console)
    Connection Type: Basic

    password: enter_your_correct_password given at the time of oracle installation
    role: select sysdba if you would connect as sysdba else select normal for users other than sys
    hostname: enter your oracle server hostname or ip address eg:- 192.168.11.12
    to find the hostname open terminal/command prompt in oracle installed machine
    type ---> hostname
    type ---->ping hostname
    you can find the ipaddress of the server

  • Oracle Universal Installation (OUI) problem!!!  Please help

    Hİ,
    We want to install RAC to our nodes but we are facing a difficult problem.
    Our OS is Redhat-4 and machines are Itanium series.
    We did every setup succesfully before installation and we are connecting to our nodes with a remote machine.
    when we want to start the runInstaller.sh, it doesn't show the user interface(display) and just waiting, does nothing. We all controlled the java, jdk and etc.. and everything is okey.

    Hi user651969
    Can you execute the xterm or xeyes in the same windows ? What is the result of doing that ?
    Besides that I would advice to Cluster Verification Utility and control that your ssh is working.
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/install.102/b14202/intro.htm#i1026198
    Please keep attention also to the pre-installation tasks

  • Oracle 10g XE installation problem on Ubuntu Linux, Oracle will not start

    Hi,
    After installing the pakages the error is when I call sqlplus and login as SYS :-
    oracleXE: error while loading shared libraries: libaio.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
    ERROR:
    ORA-12547: TNS:lost contact
    What I have done:-
    My system is 64 bit AMD.
    I installed .deb package on Ubuntu 9.04 server. I installed the following packages.
    1.     ibc6-i386
    2.     libaio_0.3.104-1_i386.deb
    3.     bc
    4.     oracle-xe-universal_10.2.0.1-1.1_i386.deb.
    The Oracle processes do not start after running /etc/init.d/oracle-xe start.
    I can tnsping from the local machine.
    dpkg -l |grep libaio gives the following:
    ii libaio1 0.3.107-3ubuntu1 Linux kernel AIO access library - shared lib

    I have been running XE on 9.04 (32bit on my laptop - 64bit on my workstation) and both works fine. I had no problem installing. I followed the directions in documents I found on Ubuntu forums and also google. The document I used to install on 64bit was from http://littlebrain.org
    I remember using
    dpkg -i --force-architecture libaio1_0.3.107-1ubuntu1_i386.deb
    dpkg -i --force-architecture libaio-dev_0.3.107-1ubuntu1_i386.deb
    dpkg -i --force-architecture libaio1-dbg_0.3.107-1ubuntu1_i386.deb
    dpkg -i --force-architecture oracle-xe_10.2.0.1-1.0_i386.deb
    and then I used the ./oracle-xe configure as root, the installation was ok - and I have even updated the APEX version to 3.2.1 on the XE installation running on my 64bit Ubuntu 9.04
    hope this proves useful

  • Oracle 12c ASM Disk Problem on AIX

    Hi All,
    We need to install 12.1.0.2 DB with ASM option on AIX 7.1. When we start to install 12.1.0.2 grid installation, in the 3.step we could not show adding Candidate disks to ASM. Disks right are 660 and oracle:oinstall ownership.
    When we start to install 11gR2 installation on same platform we can see the Candidate Disk, and We can install 11gR2 ASM+DB on same platform. But for 12.1.0.2 is not.
    How can we add Candidate Disks to 12c ASM İnstallation for below step ? The disks which is not shown for this step are like below. After first error I have changed disks' ownership like oracle:asmadmin, it isn't solved. I need urgent help.

    Hi Sve,
    Thanks for replying me. What you have written are tried but not works. I have solved problem.
    The problem is related AIX platform. I have Solved problem with below steps.
    1- I have installed grid infrastructure with Software Only option.
    2- After install Software Only Standalone Grid, I have tried to install manually ASM instance. But I have taken this error. rtld: 0712-001 Symbol CreateIoCompletionPort was referenced and it is solved with this MOSC ID: Doc ID1949184.1)
    3- After Successfull 2.step you can now install ASM manually from asmca.

  • Oracle 7.3 Installation Problem on Win2000

    Dear all,
    Can I install Oracle 7.3 Client on win2000?
    I can only install Oracle Server beoz the installer recognize
    win2000 as NT server.
    Thanks !

    Oracle 7.3 will not work on Win2000. I tried this some time ago
    and had a multitude of problems. So I now use Oracle8i on
    Win2000. 7.3 is not certified for Win2000.

    Hi,
    When i used to get only one page the options like facing, continuous facing are disabled. And displays only single page.
    These options are enabled only when there are multiple pages in pdf.
    One more thing i found that it happens when I first view the report as pdf it displays
    all the pages, then i change the display format to csv and again when i change
    the format to pdf the problem starts.
    And when I will restart the report server service, it works fine again until i wont view it in CSV format.

    Comment out process request or rewrite & move it to a position after you read the parameters and connect to the db. Decide where you want to write to the output stream. Also, you have some superfluous casting.
    I take it that you are using netbeans? If you debug and step through the code you will get an idea of the flow. The steps should be, midlet connects with POST, doPost is called, server reads parameters, server opens connection, executes query, releases/closes connection, and writes a response to the midlet.
    Some notes about the connect method; The scope of rs may cause problems. It is unlike you will have a valid result set if you have a problem with create statement or execute. Take a look at connection pooling and be mindful how the connections are opened, used, and closed; put all the important cleanup operations in a finally. Remove system.exit from your servlet. Actually I would suggest limiting the scope of all your vars;
    If you store the username, password, and sid on the midlet, you may have trouble updating the installation base if you need to change the values for any reason. Also, you have clients which contain your database u/p, susceptible to snooping and decompilation. Use the servlet to abstract the db from the client. And use a datasource (with connection pooling) for obtaining connections to db.

  • Install oracle 8.1.7 problems

    I am trying to install oracle 8.1.7 downloaded from the OTN, i am unable.
    I have windows 2000 advance server as OS and my machine has a p4 processor.
    But I am able to load oracle 8.1.5 after loading 815, i tried to install Oracle designer 6i and again i am having problems.

    I had problems installing 8.1.6 initially, but got it to work. I had to download the latest JRE from sun.com for Pentium 4, which is 1.3.1. Then I had to copy the contents of Oracle 8.1.6 onto my hard drive, search and rename the symcjit.dll that is within the Oracle 8.1.6 directory. Then I clicked on setup and the installation will go out to the JRE1.3.1 directory in order to find the symcjit.dll that it needs. That was the only way that I was able to install Oracle on a P4 box. That worked great.
    Then I tried to upgrade to 8.1.7 and though the database seems to work fine, it does show the following error when I log into SQL*:
    ORA-06553: PLS-707: unsupported construct or internal error[2603]. Anyone seen this error before?

  • Oracle 8.1.5 problem on Solaris 7.

    Hi,
    I am trying to install 8.1.5 on an Ultrasparc 10 with Solaris 7 with the recommended patch set from Sun (Kernel patched to 106541-12). When I try to create the new database using dbassist, I get a database creation error. IF I ask dbassist to save to shell scripts, and run the scripts by hand, I get the following message :

    I've been dealing with the same problems in the english version but could bypass thiss by doing the folowing.
