Oracle 817 for redhat7.3 install
Hi
I am trying to installing Oracle 8.1.7 on Redhat 7.3. When it comes to execute ‘dbasist’ ,screen shows ‘Select the nodes which will be a part of this oracle Parallel server database’ and ‘the Node(s)’ is null ,the computer cannot give me a reply in four hours.I donnot know whether it is normal or not and I am still waiting now.
Thank you
atonce
thx 4 ur suggestion
my sqlnet.ora on the client contains:
SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NTS)
NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH= (TNSNAMES)
which i don't see a problem, while my listener doesn't require
authentication. and i don't have sqlnet.ora on the server.
somehow, i think the problem is on the server side
i removed the line that sets instance_name in my init<SID>.ora
file, and this stops the service registration in my listener
(refer to http://forums.oracle.com/forums/message.jsp?id=521570)
although the above solves my problem, i think that this is
illegal

Error fetching data from a foxpro db using Oracle Gateway for ODBC
Hi.
I have an 10.2.0.1 database an a 11.2.0 Oracle Gateway for ODBC installed and configured.
The dblink test works fine, I can connect with the foxpro database because if I execute desc centros I can see the
columns of table centros.
The problem comes when I try to execute Select * from centros@fox1;
A syntax error is returned ([Microsoft][ODBC Visual FoxPro Driver]Syntax error. {42000,NativeErr = 200})
I paste down the output of the trace file with HS_FDS_TRACE_LEVEL=255
If I run select codcen from centros@fox1; another error is shown. Tell me if you want the other trace file.
select codcen from centros@fox1

Only 10.2.0.4 or 10.2.0.5 can be used as the Oracle database HS kernel requires a gateway compatibility patch and this patch is included in 10.2.0.4 or 10.2.0.5 Oracle database patch set.
Then another error in the trace is that for each column description you have an error:

It seems it is not critical as DG4ODBC continues, but a more detailed analysis would require an ODBC trace.
When looking at the table description it seems the column names are all in lower letters, for example: solar. So commonly Dg4ODBC needs to quote the names

and according to the trace the FoxPro ODBC driver doesn't like these quotes and reports a syntax error.
So this explains at least why select codcen from centros@fox1 will fail. In general the Oracle database is case insensitive and translates all object names to upper case and the select it will pass to the foreign database would be similar to:
select CODCEN from CENTROS => which will fail as FoxPro is case sensitive. So the error message ORA-00904 (missing column name) is correct and the statement you need to use is:
select "codcen" from centros@fox1;
But this might lead again to the Syntax error you got earlier => You need to check which sign (single quote, back tick, double quote) Foxpro uses to quote object names and then set the gateway parameter HS_FDS_QUOTE_IDENTIFIER accordingly.
To check which character can be used to quote column/table names you might use the Microsoft ODBc test utility which was distributed in the old MDAC 2.8:

WIN : DISTRIBUTING ORACLE OBJECTS FOR OLE

작성날짜 : 1997-12-09
WIN : DISTRIBUTING ORACLE OBJECTS FOR OLE
=========================================
Applications built using Oracle Objects for OLE when distributed need
a set of dynamic link libraries(DLLs). This bulletin supplements the information given in the Oracle Objects for OLE documentation.
It provides a complete list of DLLS and the steps necessary to run the executable on a production machine.
Once the executable is built, the executable needs to be shipped with
the following files. The files should be installed in \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory of the production(runtime) machine. The files for different versions of Oracle Objects for OLE (OO4O) are listed below.
OO4O 1.x OO4O 2.0 OO4O 2.1
===========================================================
ORAIPSRV.DLL OIP20WIN.DLL OIP21WIN.DLL
ORAIPSRV.REG ORAIPSRV.REG ORAIPSRV.REG
ORAIPSRV.TLB OIP20WIN.TLB OIP21WIN.TLB
ORADC.VBX ORADC.VBX ORADC.VBX
The following files are required for all the three versions of Oracle Objects
for OLE(OO4O).
COMPOBJ.DLL
OLE2.DLL
OLE2.REG
OLE2CONV.DLL
OLE2DISP.DLL
OLE2NLS.DLL
OLE2PROX.DLL
STDOLE.TLB
STORAGE.DLL
TYPELIB.DLL
In addition to the above files, make sure the runtime files required by
the application programming language are also installed in the right directories.
For example applications built using Visual Basic 3.0, require
VBOA300.DLL and VBRUN300.DLL.
Next, you must register in Windows the information found in
ORAIPSRV.REG and OLE2.REG
To register, make sure that you have REGEDIT.EXE in your \WINDOWS\SYSTEM
directory. In program manager choose File - Run, type
REGEDIT /S OLE2.REG
REGEDIT /S ORAIPSRV.REG
NOT registering will result in 'OLE initialization error'.
The files listed in this bulletin should not be redistributed to a
machine that already has Oracle Objects for OLE installed on it.
The target production machine should be clean. Oracle Objects for OLE
does not have a de-install option.
Make sure for Oracle Object for OLE Version 1.x, Required support files
( RSF 7.1.X ) is installed on your production machine.
An exception to the above rule is, if the application is built using
Oracle Objects for OLE Version 1.0.61,then Required Support files
(RSF 7.2) must be installed.
For Oracle Objects for OLE Version 2.0.x and Version 2.1.x, Required
support files ( RSF 7.3.X ) must be installed on your production
machine.
Do not distribute the Required Support files (RSF) files. This would
be a violation of the license agreement.
Also, check if the necessary networking software and SQL*Net Client
software is installed to connect to the database. Finally, make
certain that \ORAWIN\BIN is in your search path.
The information in this bulletin is a supplement to the Oracle
Objects for OLE online help.
The online help has a section on Redistributable Files.
You will see a hyperlink to this section on the contents page of the
help. Are you referring to the following?
http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/win.920/a95895/toc.htm#
I simply went to the Documentation Index and did a search for this title.

How to install Oracle 817 Client on Redhat Linux7.2
I try to install oracle 817 client on a dell server running Redhat Linux7.2, the installer won't start. Are there any pre-requisites I have to set for client install to work on linux? Does 817 installer work on Linux7.2?
Thanks,
JoeJoe,
I have the same issue. It's probably due to an incompatibility of the jdk 1.1.8 on the CD.
Have you tried using another one ? http://www.blackdown.org/

the e at e/bin/jre had a little mark on top of it, i have no
idea what that means. I diged through some documentation and
the only reference that i found saids something about long file

fix to this?
Thank you.
WillHello.
You dont need any java to install 8.1.7 in RedHat 7.1
Just make a full installation of RedHat and for running the
runInstaller export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.2.5 before
I dont know if this are in the RelaseNotes of Disk1 of RedHat 7.0
or 7.1

Problem installing oracle 817 Personal Edition in non-interactive mode
When I install oracle 817 PE in silent mode, if there's a pre-8.1.6 version of Oracle already installed the Oracle Data Migration Assistant pops up. This is exactly what I don't want to happen. Is there a way to keep ODMA from launching? Thank you.
It is not possible installing Oracle in WINDOWS ME platform, because this won't support for ORACLE. Unfortunately ORACLE also have no version for WINDOWS ME. If possible, upgrade your OS to WINDOWS 2000 or downgrade to WINDOWS 98 and try it.

Oracle 817 does not want to install on RH Linux (ORA-03113)
I am trying to install Oracle 817 on RH Linux with kernel

as described in the doc and recompiled the kernel.
But each time I try to create a database, I would be getting this error:

Please help!! My system has 512 MB of ram and 1GB of swap.
It is a Pentium III about 700 MHZ.

--VincentAfter Forms 6i it is only possible to run the Forms web based. Inside the the Developer Suite you can find an OC4J which allows you to run the Forms locally on the Development PC.
There are setting in the formsweb.cfg which allows you to do some configuration. For instance the look and feel which is by default the green color. The size of your window which makes your current window smaller than your Form.
At your last question. Do you want the other user to make use of your Forms or make use of your database. If you want him to make use of your Forms, the other user could call the locally installed OC4J with the http-address. If you want the user to make use of the database, the other pc should have a installed client software or make use a tool like SQL Developer to connect over JDBC. -
Error while Installing Oracle Services for Microsoft Transaction Server
I downloaded "Oracle9i Database Release 2 Enterprise/Standard/Personal Edition for Windows NT/2000/XP" and installed the personal edition. It did not install successfully and gave this error message:
Error while Installing Oracle Services for Microsoft Transaction Server
The specified key was not found while trying to GetValue
- stop installation of all products.
- stop installation of this component only.
The installation of Oracle 9i Database was unsuccessful
The Integration tools and client installed just fine from the same download. Why didn't the database install successfully? All the other components seemed to install just fine and the database appeared to be created - but I could not open it and there was not start menu option for DBA Studio.
I am running Windows 2000 professional with Service Pack 3 on a 2 GHz Pentium4 machine with 512MB Rambus RAM, 32bit color graphics ATI All-in-Wonder card, about 40GB of disk space, a local peer-to-peer network via cat5 cable to another Win2k P3 machine, and Creative Soundblaster Audigy card. Do I need to adjust any network settings? Would it help or hinder if I installed MS IIS? WinNT has a Microsoft Transaction Server (MTS) but Win2k has COM+ instead; does that make a difference in terms of the installer looking for MTS? Do I need to configure COM+ in some special way / change settings?HI Salman,
I am doing the following.
1. I am installing Oracle 10.2.01 Database(Not Client) on my windows Xp laptop. While installation i Choose the custom option and Check the Oracle Windows Interface. In that i check the "Install Oracle Services for Microsoft Transaction server" checkbox. The installation goes on fine till 99% and when it tries to install the
Oracle Services for Microsoft Transaction server it gives an error saying that "Microsoft Transaction server" was not found on the system.
I had previously installed the same on my laptop and it was working fine. but after uninstallation when i try to re install i get this problem.
If i go to the services.msc option in windows i still see the OracleMTSRecoveryService option even when i have uninstalled oracle. But when i try to start the services i get the following error
Could Not start the OracleMTSRecoveryService on the local computer.
Error 3: The system cannot find the file specified.
Any help on how to resolve this issue will be highly appreciated -
Installing a VB application using Oracle Provider for OLEDB
Hi all,
I have a corporate VB application that uses the Oracle 9i client.
The Oracle Client is on a network disk, so all my clients will not need to install on their client machines.
I am using Wise for Windows Installer to install the application on each client machine.
I need to include on the installation package the "Oracle Provider for OLEDB" files.
How can I do this?
Thank you all,
Ardates Cruz. The standard way to use the unmanaged Oracle.DataAccess is to install an Oracle client on any machine that wants to use the application.
It is possible to avoid that installation by including a bunch of DLLs and some other files in the application, but it's far more cumbersome than using the managed client. Here's a link to get you started on that: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/13721025/deploying-and-configuring-odp-net-to-work-without-installation-with-entity-frame -
