ORACLE 8I BUILDING FORMS

I AM NEW TO ORACLE AND WANT TO KNOW HOW TO PROGRAM BUTTONS TO OPEN FORMS. CAN ANY ONE HELP THANKS

The easiest way to build forms is if you have a copy of Microsoft Access use ODBC to link your Microsoft Access Client Program (for forms and reports) to your Oracle Database.
The other option is to download Oracle Forms/Services from Oracle's web site. Its about a 250 meg download, and not quite as easy to use as access.

  • Getting a report in excel format from oracle report builder 10gDS release2

    I want to get a report in excel format from oracle report builder 10gDS release2.
    Is there ne method by which minimum effort is required for changing already made reports .
    I have searched for it on internet :-
    http://www.oracle.com/webapps/online-help/reports/10.1.2/state/content/navId.3/navSetId._/vtTopicFile.htmlhelp_rwbuild_hs%7Crwwhthow%7Cwhatare%7Coutput%7Coutput_a_simpleexcel~htm/
    Example, given in the last of the page opened from the above url, is not working.
    Can neone plz explain the example and how to use it
    Thanks & Regards
    JD

    Ok, for the release 2 its quite straightfoward, in your calling form you would have something like this code:
    declare
         pl_id ParamList;
    repid REPORT_OBJECT;
    v_rep VARCHAR2(100);
    v_rep_status VARCHAR2(20);
    v_repsrv     VARCHAR2(100):= 'yourreportserver';
    v_serv varchar2(50) := 'yourservername' ;
    begin
    pl_id := Get_Parameter_List('tmpdata');
    if not id_null(pl_id) then
    Destroy_Parameter_List( pl_id );
    end if;
    pl_id := Create_Parameter_List('tmpdata');
    Add_Parameter(pl_id,'DESTYPE' ,TEXT_PARAMETER,'Screen' );
    Add_Parameter(pl_id,'PARAMFORM' ,TEXT_PARAMETER,'NO' );
    repid := FIND_REPORT_OBJECT('yourreport');     SET_REPORT_OBJECT_PROPERTY(repid,REPORT_COMM_MODE,SYNCHRONOUS);
    SET_REPORT_OBJECT_PROPERTY(repid,REPORT_EXECUTION_MODE,RUNTIME);
    SET_REPORT_OBJECT_PROPERTY(repid,REPORT_SERVER, v_repsrv);
    set_report_object_property(repid,REPORT_DESTYPE,CACHE );
    set_report_object_property(repid,REPORT_DESFORMAT,'SPREADSHEET' );
    v_rep := RUN_REPORT_OBJECT(repid,pl_id);
    v_rep := substr(v_rep,length(v_repsrv)+2,10 ) ;
    end;
    I have plenty of reports being formated to excel with this same method so it should work for you, the only diference with my previous code is this line.
    set_report_object_property(repid,REPORT_DESFORMAT,'SPREADSHEET' );
    The rest remains untouched.
    Hope it helps.

  • How to Publish a report created by Oracle report builder

    Hi Everyone
    My colleague and I were trying to use the Oracle Reports Builder to replace our existing reports generator from our ERP system. We have already created the report in the Reports Builder from the development suite.
    What we are looking for is a similar solution as the Microsoft reporting service;
    1) create the company report templates
    2) and then upload the template files to a location (e.g. folder on the server)
    3) then all user in the company can access it by a web browser with some fields which they can enter some critiria (e.g. purchase order number).
    4) then send to printer and the print out should look exactly like the template.
    Unfortunately, we had very bad time on try to find out what we need and how to publish that Oracle report we created. We spent 15 hours on that but no result.
    In that 15 hours we tried to setup the "Oracle report service", but at last my colleague said that wasnt what we looking for, the "Oracle report service" is for reporting the error from the application hosted on the server, not for publish the company report created by the "Oracle report bulider" .
    We use Oracle Database 10g for the ERP quite a long time already. We had the Oracle Developer Setup, and the Application Server Installed.
    Could someone please tell us what kind of Oracle service we are actually looking for. Any other suggestion and setup guides are also the most welcoming.
    Best Regards
    Bryan

    Hello,
    If you want to be able to execute your Reports on the web, the best solution is to use the "Oracle Application Server"
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/ias/htdocs/101202.html
    For example , the "Forms & Reports Services Standalone" edition
    Then, use the Reports Servlet to submit the execution requests to a Reports Server :

  • Connect to Oracle 8i from Forms 6

    I have installed Personal Oracle 8i and developper 6 in a NT. I got the error when tried to connect to the Oracle 8i from Form Builder. "could not resolve service name".
    I did enter the database name.
    Any ideas?

    This is a tnsnames problem...check the entry in tnsnames.ora and make sure
    its
    point to the right DB...there will be a tnsnames.ora under Network and also
    a
    tnsnames in the developer directory ..FORMS will use the tnsnames under
    developer..
    Supply the connect string with and without the domain to see if
    that works
    You can find the domain name in sqlnet.ora file.

  • Oracle Translation Builder: Japanese characters in question mark (????)

    Hi All,
    We need to translate a custom from labels from English to Japanese, so that both US and Japan can use that form.
    So we have used Oracle Translation Builder to specify the translation. As an initial step, we just changed the labels to some other english words. And now we have generated American .fmx and Japanese .fmx. And we are able to see the difference.
    Now in Oracle translation Builder(OTB), if i paste Japanese characters in the translation editor, we are able to see the Japanese characters. But if we save&close the OTB and re-open it, we see all the question(???) marks. Even if we generate/upload the Japanese.fmx to applications, we are seeing the same Japanese ??? marks in the applications.
    Can you please let me know, what am i missing...
    (I have installed the Asian language (ARIALUNI.ttf) in my local system.)

    May be You should set the environment variable NLS_LANG to "JAPANESE_JAPAN.WE8MSWIN1252" or "AMERICAN_AMERICA.JA16SJIS" will allow you to store Japanese providing the input data is truly JA16SJIS and if the database is also in a character set that can store Japanese like UTF8 or JA16SJIS).
    Or use Oracle Translation Hub it is useful tool. It replaces the OTB :-)

  • How to handle Exceptions in Oracle Report Builder 10.1.2.0.2?

    We are using Oracle Reports Builder 10g 10.1.2.0.2, Windows XP with Oracle 10g database. The reports are converted into JSP reports.
    How and where do we write exception handling code in Reports Builder? We want to achieve the following:
    1. Display a customized JSP page with customized error message
    2. Allow users to cancel the report execution, if possible and then direct them to the parameter form with all the values they entered before.
    Once we write these codes in the Oracle Report Builder where will it show in .jsp files?
    Thanks

  • Oracle 8i with form 6i

    hi fellows
    I have a problem that I have installed oracle 8i and forms 6i but the oracle is working properly but forms are not connecting to oracle
    I have installed it on my personal computer while the operating system is windows 2000
    I have specified the path in tnsnames but still no connection is building
    can anyone help me

    I think Forms 6i requires that it be installed to a different Oracle home than 8i Personal.
    The first step is to be able to connect to the database from 8i Personal's SQL*Plus. You know that both software packages install separate copies of SQL*Plus, right? If you can't connect like this, ain't nobody gonna' connect to the database.
    The second step is to connect using Forms 6i's SQL*Plus. If you can do this, you should be able to connect using Forms. You'll have to set up tnsnames.ora, sqlnet.ora and maybe other .ora files. I forget exactly where they're located.
    Lemmie know how it goes.

  • Oracle 9i WEB-forms, with or without Headstart?

    We have some applications that are created with Designer 2.1.2 and Headstart 2.1.2 and we are about to migrate these to Oracle9i Web Forms and here are my questions:
    1) What are the advantages/disadvantages if we continue to use Headstart?
    2) What do we need to get Headstart working together with Oracle 9i Web Forms?
    3) Where do we order new software/license for "Headstart for 9i"?
    4) Are there any way we can get support on Headstart except the forum on OTN?
    5) Briefly explained, if we remove Headstart and replace it with own-developed code, what would our main tasks/problems be?
    6) Are there any functionality we cannot have if we remove Headstart from our applications?

    1) What are the advantages/disadvantages if we continue to use Headstart?
    The advantages would be more or less the same as for Headstart 2.1.2, except for the fact that you can make use of new features, and it runs on the web too! A 'disadvantage' would be that only web forms is supported out of the box (not client/server) and you need to set up an application server. Of course you need to migrate, which sometimes can be a difficult task. However, this depends on things like customizations on top of Headstart, typical client/server features that have been used and that cannot be migrated to web forms etc. A lot of this has been documented in the Headstart Migration Guide.
    2) What do we need to get Headstart working together with Oracle 9i Web Forms?
    We build Headstart against Designer 9i (+ Developer 9i that comes with it). At this point we still are working on Headstart for Designer 9i.
    3) Where do we order new software/license for "Headstart for 9i"?
    Contact your Oracle Consulting Manager, or call Oracle and ask for Mike Kruijsdijk.
    4) Are there any way we can get support on Headstart except the forum on OTN?
    You can hire consultancy from us or one of our partners.
    5) Briefly explained, if we remove Headstart and replace it with own-developed code, what would our main tasks/problems be?
    To mention some of them:
    - It probably would take man-years to build a template package with the same functionality
    - Headstart code at some points deals with Forms bugs, which you now have to deal with yourself
    - You have no support any more (upgrades) and need to do upgrades for new versions of Designer yourself. I've seen more than one customer that are years behind with upgrading to new versions of Designer, because of this.
    And many more. You really should investigate this thouroughly before you start on this. It would not surprise me if you come to the conclusion you might as well rebuild your applications completely.
    6) Are there any functionality we cannot have if we remove Headstart from our applications?
    You can have anything you like, as long as you build it yourself. But for practical reasons I suppose you will not have RuleFrame for example.
    As long as you don't start building new applications with it, the code practically is yours, so you might consider to do the upgrade of Headstart yourself. Of course support will be more difficult, but you still can hire consultancy.

  • Oracle report builder  v 10.1.2.0.

    HI
    I would like to know how to create parameters and link them to report on oracle report builder v 10.1.2.0...
    thanking in advance

    One Option is to create a parameter-list and pass it through to the report when called from forms.
    v_list_id     ParamList;
    v_list_id := CREATE_PARAMETER_LIST('...');
    And then use the ADD_PARAMETER(v_list_id, ...) Built-In.
    Call the report and pass the parameter-list to it.
    In reports, create a user parameter having the same name as given in the ADD_PARAMETER Built-In.
    In the SQL-Query-Statement Window, the parameter may then get assigned in the WHERE-clause of the quer using e.g.
    WHERE MYCOLUMN = :PARAMETER_NAME
    Hope this helps.

  • Oracle JDeveloper or Forms Developer

    Hi all,
    I am currently developing web based application using JDeveloper with BC4J and JSP. Somehow I have seen the demo on Oracle web site of web based application develop using Forms Developer and deploy to 9iAS with applet use for creating user interface on the web browser. You seem to be able to create better interface with Forms Developer (it is like running windows user interface on the web browser). So I would like to ask any experienced Oracle Developer to give some pros and cons of these two approach and how it migth be integrated to create a powerful web application. Please shed some light on this matter, this would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards

    Check out http://otn.oracle.com/products/forms/htdocs/FormsJavaSOD.html - this touches on the differences between JDeveloper and Forms as a development tool.
    Forms uses PL/SQL for its business logic where as JDeveloper uses Java. You can still build "Forms like" applications in JDeveloper as well - this is a feature called JClient which allows you to build Java Clients (Forms is a Java Client as well).
    Of course you could also develop your application with BOTH tools and blend them together; for example, a Forms application calling Web Services built in JDeveloper - the options are limitless!! ;o)

  • How to access Oracle Apps 11i forms using Vmware Player?

    Hi,
    I have installed Oracle Apps 11i on native OS OEL5 Server and guest OS Windows XPP using Vmware Player.Now how to access Oracle Apps 11i forms from Windows XPP using Vmware on my OEL5 Server Desktop?
    Thank's
    Regard's
    Rerry

    Hi,
    If you mean how to access eBusiness Suite from within the Virtual Machine, then you just navigate to the same URL you normally would. You may need to put the machine alias in your hosts file if you are referencing it via machine name rather than IP address.
    If you mean that you want to load the form in forms builder (for example) then you need to FTP the form from server to client (as you normally would) and then open it in your client (XP virtual machine).
    If you want to use Workflow Builder (as per your original requirement) then you need to ensure that the TNSNAMES.ora file in the Workflow Builder home has an entry for your instance on Linux, and then you should be able to connect to the database directly.
