Oracle 8i giving slow response when running sql query

hi ,
i am using oracle 8i server ;
and sql query giving slow response before some days;
so which parameter need to increase
DB_BLOCK_BFFERS OR SHARE_POOL_SIZE
CURRENT SETING IS
DB_BLOCK_BUFFER=256000;
SHARE POOLSIZE=300M;
pls advice to me
thanks

No parameters need to be increased. Tuning is not done but making arbitrary changes to values and hoping that good things will happen by accident.
The thing you really should be worrying about is your antique database and likely its impact on your skill set unless you are one year away from retirement.
Where's the actual version number?
Where's the DDL?
Where's the DML?
Where's the Explain Plan?

  • Random users getting very slow response when opening messages/attachments or sending email

    I have a small number of users, mostly very senior management of course, who are experiencing slow response when trying to open email messages and attachments or send messages.
    They see the spinning wheel and sit there until it decides to open or send. If the message is opened  and closed again you would expect it to be quick reopening the same message, no, it does the same thing again.
    These users are all using Outlook 2010 and their mail accounts are on Exchange 2013. It does not seem to make a difference if they use a physical machine or log into a VDI.
    I do not have the same issue generally, though I have experienced this when using VDI and this has been seen using a number of different machine pools so it is not a specific pool.
    This is not specifically a VDI issue, as the 3rd paragraph says, the issues are seen on both physical and virtual machines.
    none of the mailboxes are particularly large, most are at around 60% of quota limit, and the same limit applies to almost all mailboxes across the organization. They also do not appear to have a huge number of messages stored, other users without issues
    have larger mailboxes and higher item counts. Any ideas what I need to look at to address this?

    Hi,
    How about OWA?
    If OWA works well, it seems an issue on the Outlook client side.
    Please try to run Outlook under safe mode and re-create profile for testing.
    Any related error/warning/information message left in App Log?
    Also consider the network Bandwidth.
    Thanks

  • Very slow response when I click on a link, but almost instant response if I go back and click a second time.

    I often get very slow response when I click on a link, any link. But if I go back and click on the link again, then the page will open almost immediately. I discovered this by accident and noticed that this happens every time. It would be nice if I got fast response on the first click without having to do this silly procedure and it seems to me that there's a simple fix. I would appreciate it if you could help. I'm open to any and all ideas. Thanks again.

    Thanks
    it's like this:

    I suppose you are talking about the message

    This is caused by not having a carriage return at the end of the line.

  • Slow response when entering data to an empty cell?

    Hey there...
    I have this issue that when I start entering data into an empty cell or owerwriting one, the response is slow; when I press a button on the keyboard it takes roughly 1 second before anything visual happens in the cell, but when the data "makes it way through" the response is normal when hitting the keyboard.
    Is anyone else experince a slow response when entering data to an empty cell in Number 09 or when overwriting one?/ Anyone familar with a similar issue, and is there anybody who knows how to fix this, or is it just normal for Numbers 09 to be a bit sluggish in the beginning when entering data?
    I've recently swithced from Excel 2007 to Numbers 09, so sorry if the terminology is incorrect.

    Question asked and answered several times.
    Numbers was not coded by brains but by feet so, it behave sadly when the AutoSave Lion feature apply.
    I posted a script getting rid of that.
    Start from a template or duplicate the existing document just after opening it then close the original and work on the duplicate.
    As it was never saved, AutoSave doesn't apply to it;
    From time to time (say at least every ten minutes) call my script.
    It wil duplicate the doc in progress and save it with a date_time stamped name.
    this way, you will continue to enter datas in a never saved document.
    Search for the string Auto_Save in the existing threads.
    It's late and I'm too tired to search for you.

  • I want to know when a sql-query was excuted in DBA_HIST_SQL_PLAN !!

    Hi, all.
    I want to know when a sql query wqas excuted in past 3 month.
    select * from DBA_HIST_SQL_PLAN
    where plan_hash_value='1844343569'
    is working?
    The plan_hash_value is from v$sql_plan of current instance.
    There ware 3times database shutdown/startup.
    When a oracle instance is initiated, is the plan_hash_value of the same query changing?
    Thanks in advance.

    You can't go back 3 months unless your retention period is set to that length of time.
    select retention from DBA_HIST_WR_CONTROL;
    If you want to retain data for longer then you need to modify you snapshots settings, but this can impact your DB if it grows too large.
    BEGIN
    DBMS_WORKLOAD_REPOSITORY.MODIFY_SNAPSHOT_SETTINGS( retention => 100800);
    END;
    Then you could get the details out by using something like
    select a.SNAP_ID, begin_interval_time, end_interval_time, SQL_ID, PLAN_HASH_VALUE,VERSION_COUNT, FETCHES_TOTAL, EXECUTIONS_DELTA , EXECUTIONS_TOTAL
    from DBA_HIST_SQLSTAT a, DBA_HIST_SNAPSHOT b
    where b.snap_id=a.snap_id
    and b.instance_number=a.instance_number
    and sql_id='&sql_id'
    ;

  • How to numberformat when using sql:query alogn with c:forEach JSTL tags

    Is there anyway to format the numeric values returned from the database when using <sql:query> alogn with <c:forEach> tags

    <sql:query..../>

    how can i format them to 1,000 , 10,1000 , 100,000 etc

    Why are you using "to_number(0)"? the zero is already seen by oracle as a number.
    The to_number function expects to get a character string as the argument: to_number('0')
    See the difference?
    As you currently have it coded, you are forcing oracle to do an implicit conversion of the number zero to the character string '0' in order to pass it to to_number to convert it back to the number zero.
    And what is the point of "where to_number(0) <> 0"
    When would that EVER be true?
    And it takes a long time because it is checking the second condition.
    Even though the first one is False.
    When running it through sqlplus it takes nothing. and of course no rows returns.
    The 0 in to_number is a bind variable
    it looks like this:
    select :intvar
    from DUAL
    where ( to_number(:QIV$) <> 0 ) and exists ( select 'X'
    from TABULA.macdent$FNCITEMS
    where ( macdent$FNCITEMS.QIV = to_number(:QIV$) ) )
    So the query you showed at the top is not the query we are really dealing with. What is the data type of QIV$? At least now we know that comparison to zero is not a fixed value.
    1 - filter predicate: ( IS NOT NULL AND 0<>TO_NUMBER(TO_CHAR(:QIV$)))
    This suggests QIV$ is already a number, else why would you pass it to to_char? And as I said above, if it is already a number, why pass it to to_number? Here you appear to be explicitly doing what I described oracle as implicitly doing in your first query above.
    But in sqlplus the filter predicates is different.
    1 - filter(NULL IS NOT NULL AND EXISTS (SELECT 0 FROM "TABULA"."MACDENT$FNCITEMS" "MACDENT$FNCITEMS" WHERE
    SQL> select 22
    from DUAL

  • Slow response when deleting from PSA or overlapping requests

    Hi
    We have experienced slow response times when the 'delete' jobs are kicked off from the process chain to delete PSA data as well as overlapping requests from cubes in the past two weeks. When displaying the processes via SM50 it appears that the job is not running, however in SM37 the status of the job is 'Active'. Eventually it does finish, but sometimes it times out. Any suggestions?

    Hi
    When it completes it does the correct deletion of the overlapping requests. It only cancels without a shortdump. Here is a job log of one of these jpbs:
    14.02.2006 05:47:45 Job started
    14.02.2006 05:47:45 Step 001 started (program RSPROCESS, variant &0000000670942, user ID ALEREMOTE)

    14.02.2006 05:47:54 Request '437,729'; DTA '0PM_C01'; action 'D'; with dialog 'X'
    14.02.2006 05:47:54 Leave RSM1_CHECK_DM_GOT_REQUEST in row 70; Req_State ''
    After the last step, that is where the entire job comes to a halt. It stays like that until we manually cancels it or it finish some hours later. We have recently uploaded patch level 28 on BW 3.0B, and am not sure if that could be the cause.

  • Extremely Slow Response when attempting to display files on Windows Server

    I have set up File Sharing on my MacBook Pro using SMB and defined the folders that are available to be shared. When I look at the Network Neighbourhood in Windows Explorer the Macbook appears listed with all the other PCs on the network. When I try to open the Macbook in Explorer it takes a very long time to open (about 2 minutes or so) and shows me the list of folders. When I try to open a folder the exact same thing happens - it opens after a couple of minutes, this continues for every folder that I try to open. I thought it might be that Explorer needed to "catalog" the files in the folders but the same thing happens each time - if I close the connection and try again it takes the same amount of time. What is very strange is that if I connect to the Windows Server from the Mac opening and looking at shared folders/files is instantaneous so clearly this is not a network problem. If I use the Win2K3 server to look at other computers/files the result is the same - instantaneous access, so it has nothing to do with the Win2K3 server - clearly the problem is with the MacBook serving up the file information to the Win2K3 server. I have tried with AFP on and off and the result is the same. The user name/pwd is the same on both the Win2K3 and the Macbook - and I have tried with a different username on the Win2K3 - no difference. Anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening?

    Yes they are on the same workgroup, on ethernet, plugged into the same switch. The Mac can read and copy files of the Win2K3 server with no problem. The problem is clearly at the Mac end as the Win2K3 server can view files on any machine on the network without the slow response, the Mac can view files on the Win2K3 server without the slow response, it is only when the Win2K3 server tries to view files on the Mac.

  • Slow response when using Xcelsius web service connection witn input values

    We've been very successful in using the Xcelsius Web Service Connection. We've recently moved forward toward using input values when calling a web service and having issues with response time. Without input values, it takes 3 - 6 seconds to retrieve and display the results in Xcelsius, but, when using the input values to the web service, it takes about 27 seconds for Xcelsius to retrieve and display the results.  Does anyone have experience with fixing slow response associated with using input values for a web service connection?

    Hi Sharone,
    What's the version of your Xcelsius and BOBJ server?
    I'm asking because using the last version of BOBJ server (BOXI 3.1 SP 3) you have new services on CMC just to help Xcelsius to work better with WebServices.

  • Getting SQL*Net more data from client waits when running a query through web based interface

    Hi, you all,
    We are having this weird behavior when running query through web based interface, we get a lot of "SQL*Net more data from client" waits, the OEM indicates that the current wait event is SQL*Net more data from client
    It's just a very simple query wich invokes a db link.
    When I execute the same query on any PL/SQL tool like toad or sql developer it works fine, but that query inside an application executed through a web based interface, it hangs for ever.
    Where can I start looking for the problem.
    We are working on a 3 Node RAC 11gr2, both databases are on the same RAC.
    Thanks.

    Hi ,
    we managed to reproduce the case in test environment, below are the steps:
    1)have 2 databases on different machines, will call the first one local, the other one remote.
    2)in the local database create:
    a - DBLink to remote database.
    b - read data from remote database(we simply used select count(*) from dummy_table )
    c - insert data into a table on the local database
    d - terminate the connection between the 2 databases (disconnect either machine from the network)
    e - commit on local database.
    what we noticed was the following:
    1)when the local database is disconnected from the network(the machine is not connected to any network at the moment): almost immediately throws an error, and issuing the following:
    select * from dba_2pc_pending;we found some data .
    2) when the remote database was disconnected(the local database is still connected to the network):
    after 7-8 seconds an error is thrown, and issuing the following:
    select * from dba_2pc_pending;did not return any data.
    since this is pretty similar to our case ,we concluded that it's a network issue.
    is this the correct behavior ?
    as a temporary solution till the network issue is fixed ,we did the following:
    1) changed the call of the remote procedure to calling a local procedure that calls the remote procedure.
    2) added pragma autonomous_transaction to the local procedure.
    3) at the end of the local procedure rollback the autonomous transaction.
    it seems that since the global transaction does not use the DBLink database does not issue a 2PC commit.
    this works in my cases since the DBLink is only issed to read data.

  • Insufficient privilege when run SQL in PL/SQL Developer

    Hi,
    My developer had strange behavior when run below SQL from PL/SQL Developer. It will come out with "*Insufficient Privileges*" message.
    SELECT Fiscal
    FROM pmaps_fiscalweekonly
    WHERE intend >= trunc(sysdate)
    AND rownum < 5
    ORDER BY intend ASC;
    Same SQL run without any problem in SQLPLUS and SQL Developer.
    But if we use small asc instead capital ASC, it run without problem also in PL/SQL Developer.
    SELECT Fiscal
    FROM pmaps_fiscalweekonly
    WHERE intend >= trunc(sysdate)
    AND rownum < 5
    ORDER BY intend asc;
    Kindly check if someone have any idea.

    But the privilege problem only happened when capital ASC keyword was used in ORDER BY clause. If small asc keyword was used, it run without problem.
    It seems to me, it does not relate with privilege or role grant. Please advise. Thanks.
    ZlT.I think you should sk this question in a support forum for PL/SQL Developer. The possible bug seems directly connected to this tool. If I remember rightly then this tool is from ALLAutomations. You should ask them. THis forum would be the wrong place to ask.
