Oracle 9.2 Errors in "connect by"

Hello,
I am trying to run a "connect by" query to get hierarchical results from a table that contains parent-child tuples. The data in table is as follows -
parent id child id
3 4
1 2
2 3
1 1 -- ultimate parent
2 5
1 6
-- so on ---
As you can see, the ultimate parent is defined by parent and child having the same id!
Additionally, the parent and child ids are not in order.
When I run the following query
select parent_id,child_id,LEVEL from HIERARCHY
start with parent_id=1
connect by nocycle parent_id= prior child_id
I get a ORA-00920:invalid relational operator error after nocycle at parent_id column!
If I remove the nocycle and run the query, I naturally get
ORA-01436:CONNECT BY loop in user data.
Anybody have a solution for this?

Yes you can. Did you try:
select code, div, link_code, link_div, level
from test_connect_by
start with div = 'A1' and code = '0002'
connect by prior div = link_div and PRIOR code = link_code
