Oracle 9 table names are not case sensitive

Sorry about the trivial question, but I noticed that when I am creating table in Oracle their names is always upper case.
Example:
CREATE TABLE MyTable (i NUMBER(5))
CREATE TABLE MYTable (i NUMBER(5))
CREATE TABLE MyTABLE (i NUMBER(5))
CREATE TABLE MyTablE (i NUMBER(5))
it is the same table. Is it true that Oracle cannot create tables with names case sensitive, or I am doing something wrong.
Any help

You can create case sensitive table with table names enclosed in quotes.
SQL> create table sample(id number);
Table created.
SQL> select table_name from user_tables where upper(table_name)='SAMPLE';
TABLE_NAME
SAMPLE
SQL> create table "sample"(id number);
Table created.
SQL> select table_name from user_tables where upper(table_name)='SAMPLE';
TABLE_NAME
SAMPLE

  • Oracle Table Values are not displayed when tried to display with Essbase

    Hi,
    I was trying to create a report with Oracle RDB Table and Essbase by following the steps given in "Federating Essbase and Relational Data Sources in Oracle Business Intelligence Suite Enterprise Edition Plus" document at the location http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe_bi/bi_ee_1013/fed_data/fed_data.html.
    I am able to see the members from the Essbase cubes and I can also see the Oracle Table values, if they are displayed individually (i.e. different reports) but when I try to get one report with Essbase values with Oracle table records then Oracle table records are not displayed and when see the query log I don't see the query for Oracle table but I see obviously MDX queries for the essbase.
    Please help.

    Hi,
    Smitha, you can defnetly use dynamic table in interactive form. I had similar problem and I acheived like follwing:Basically you have to bind the table .
    If you want to have fixed number of rows in the interactive form, then in wddoinit method bind the internal table to ur table node. for exmaple: if u want 2 rows in the form loop times . So by default when you open the form you will get two rows for the table.
    **************BIND THE ITAB ****************************
    DO 2 TIMES.
    APPEND LW_LFBK TO LT_LFBK.
    CLEAR LW_LFBK.
    ENDDO.
    CALL METHOD lo_nd_t_lfbk->bind_table
    EXPORTING
    new_items = LT_LFBK.
    If you want to have dynmic table then take a submit button in the form instead of normal button,
    in onaction submit write a loop every time you click that new submit button it should add a new row.
    use above coding in onactionsubmit instead of doinit.
    Thats it.

    Ravi

  • Can Search help in Web Portal be made so that it is NOT case sensitive?

    We have a number of reports that users access via the web portal.  Most of these reports have a variable selection screen that appears so that users can pre-filter the report before executing it.  When the user selects search help on any of the variables and attempts to search the text values, the search is case-sensitive. But we have some data stored all caps and some data stored mixed case, so this isn't very convenient for the user.  I would like to be able to set up the search window so that the searches are not case sensitive.  Is there a global setting that can accomplish this, or can the search page be customized?  Any guidance would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

    I have the same issue. There was a fix in 3.5 using function module RSA_CHA_BUILD_QUERY however this doesn't exist in 7.
    Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

  • How to make oracle is case insentive ( not case sensitive)

    SqlServer by default is NOT case sensitive (data content) while Oracle by default is case sensitive (data content).
    please help me to give the solution
    How to make oracle is case insentive ( not case sensitive)
    if there is anyway to make Oracle behave like SqlServer changing NLS settings or any other Oracle settings?
    I have solution for application level . it is working fine
    Possible solutions:
    1. You want to store data case insensitive: do an 'insert...
    values(upper('Abcd'))...'.
    This will put your data in upper case into the tables.
    2. Your data will be mixed-case and you want to select them case
    insensitive:
    create 'function based indexes' on every column you want to use in
    your where-clauses.
    Then 'select ... where <column_name> = 'ABCD'.

    What version of Oracle? Oracle 10g has a capability that can toggle this feature on and off at the session level. Prior versions do not.
    For prior versions you usually have to make use of the upper and/or lower functions in your queries. Sometimes a function based index, FBI, is used to handle this.

  • Table and Primary Key Case Sensitive in Automated Row Fetch

    Why are the table and primary key fields case sensitive in the Automated Row Fetch process? I'm debugging an error in this process and I'm not sure what the case should be.

    Russ - It's a defect of sorts. Use upper case in the process definition. I don't think these processes will work with tables or columns whose names are not known to the database as upper-case values, i.e., defined using double-quoted non-upper case.

  • FP items not case sensitive?

    Noticed the following odd behavior for FieldPoint in MAX:  The item names are NOT being considered as case-sensitive apparently.  For instance, I cannot rename my "All" item to "ALL"  -- I get a message that the item already exists.
    However, when you go to FP Create tag, etc., the items names are case sensitive, i.e., "All" is not the same as "ALL."
    Not consistent, ey?
    -Khalid

    Hi Khalid,
    I tried doing the same thing that you stated and cannot get the same behavior.
    If you try running anything with an invalid name (different cases or not) then you get the following message:
    "Error 32812 occurred at  The specified tag name was not found. : FP Create Tag .vi
    Possible reason(s):
    FieldPoint:  The specified tag name was not found."
    It seems that the error in MAX (where you are not allowed to enter
    things with the same names but different cases) and the error in
    LabVIEW (when something of a different case is entered) are essentially
    the same error just expressed in different ways.

    only initcap case working (like I wrote in create table statement )
    SQL> ed
    Wrote file afiedt.buf
    1 insert into Payment_Methods values (
    2* 1,'Cash')
    SQL> /
    1 row created.
    How can I make the Payment_Method column NOT case sensitive ??!!!!

    I don't understand this check constraint at all. What is the purpose?
    You have a table to hold all possible payment methods. At the same time you are not allowing any new payment methods but the ones defined in the check constraint.
    Either use a check constraint to check the correct spelling without checking the values, like check (InitCap(Payment_Method) = Payment_Method) or use a database trigger and a unique key constraint to transform all new values to the correct spelling method (UPPER or INITCAP).

  • Table name - Lower, upper case

    Hi,
    Thank you for reading my post.
    1) I created a table:
    CREATE TABLE radios(name varchar2(20), frequency varchar2(20));
    Notice that the table name is lower case ("radios").
    2) I added a constraint on the "name" column:
    ALTER TABLE radios ADD CONSTRAINT name_pk PRIMARY KEY(name);
    3) Now I want to list the existing constraints for the table "radios".
    3.a) If I use the lower case table name, the result is empty:
    SQL> SELECT constraint_name, constraint_type
    FROM user_constraints
    WHERE table_name = 'radios';
    no rows selected
    3.b) Now, if I use the upper case table name, I get what I am looking for:
    SQL> SELECT constraint_name, constraint_type
    FROM user_constraints
    WHERE table_name = 'RADIOS';
    CONSTRAINT_NAME C
    NAME_PK P
    Can you explain me that phenomenon?
    I mean: I created a table name lower case so why does it work
    only with the upper case formulation?
    Do we have to create upper case table names consistently?
    How do you create table names: do you create them upper case?
    Thank you for your help.
    Sincerely,
    Lmhelp

    All the object names are stored in UPPER case, unles you use double quotes to create them:
    SQL> create table TesT_1 ( a number);
    Table created.
    SQL> create table "TesT_2" ( a number);
    Table created.
    SQL> select table_name from user_tables where table_name like '%1' or table_name like '%2';
    TABLE_NAME
    TEST_1
    TesT_2

  • Join 2 tables which are not related with any primary-foriegn key constraint

    Hello,
    How to join 2 tables which are not related with any primary key foreign key constraint.
    Ex.Consider Table A has 5 columns->A_ID,A_Name,A_Address,A_City,A_Pin(Total 10 rows)
    Table B has 5 columns->B_ID,B_Name,B_Adress,B_City,B_City(Total 30 rows)
    From both the table i want the data,which i need to use in curosr to display finally as "Address Label".
    Both the table are entirely different,but there can be some names of Table A which may come in Table B also,if the name,address and city is also same.That means same person in both the table.
    So finally i want total number of distinct records(distinct data of Table A which is not in B+all the data of table B) to come under Address Label.
    How can i write the select query for this condition?
    Thanks

    If you have 10 rows in table_a, and 30 rows in table_b, then
    SELECT       A_ID,          A_Name,     A_Address,     A_City,     A_Pin
    FROM      table_a
    UNION
    SELECT       B_ID,          B_Name,     B_Adress,     B_City,     B_City
    FROM      table_b
    ORDER BY            2,               4
    ;will produce up to 40 rows; 40 if there are no duplicates. (UNION implies DISTINCT.)
    The corresponding column types should be similar, if not exactly the same.
    There's no problem if A_Name is VARCHAR2 (50) and B_Name is CHAR (30).
    However, there will be a problem if A_ID is a NUMBER and B_ID is a TIMESTAMP.
    You must have the same number of columns in all branches of the UNION.
    If you want an ORDER BY clause, put it at the very end, after the last branch of the UNION.
    You can use positional notation (where 2 means the 2nd column) like I did, or you can use names from the first prong of the UNION (such as A_Name).
    From both the table i want the data,which i need to use in curosr to display finally as "Address Label".
    So finally i want total number of distinct records(distinct data of Table A which is not in B+all the data of table B) to come under Address Label.I'm not sure what your mean about "Address Label".
    Whenever you have a question, post a little sample data (CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements, relevant columns only) from all tables, and the exact results (formatted) that you want from that data.
    You can concatenate all 5 columns into one VARCHAR2 column, if you want to.
    You'll probably want to use RPAD (or simillar functions) to make the output line up nicely.
    If any of the columns are not strings, use TO_CHAR to make string versions of them.
    For example:
    SELECT  TO_CHAR (A_ID, '9999999')
         || '   '          -- leave a little space between the left-justified a_id and the right-justified a_name
         || RPAD (A_Name, 25)
         || RPAD (A_Address, 50)

    If you can do this, do with this:
    create table tableC
    as select a.*
    from tableA a,
    (select empno from tableA

    select empno from tableB) b

    Dear Friends,
    I have deployed my WebDynpro application on a landscape where the production system got 4 server services running.
    Initially the WD application was using the existing JCo connections.  But on the latest deploy I have to use new JCo connections and I made changes.
    Problem is, these new JCo connection names are not appearing in WebDynpro Content Administrator and still it displays old JCo connections.
    This problem exists with global WD Content Admin. URL as well as with individual server url, except in one server instance where JCos yet to be created.
    But when I execute the application with global URL, it is working fine.
    Intent is to create and use my new JCo connections for the application which are not listing in WB Content Admin.
    Is it require to restart the server services?
    Is it possible to solve this problem without restarting the services?
    Is there any other way to resolve this problem?
    Thanks in advance.
    Lakshmikantha

    Sorry I can't approach to restart the j2ee service at this movement.
    And the application got new JCo name at it's JCO refrences.
    Infact the application is working fine with new JCos on development and quality systems.
    Problem exists only on production system where it got 4 server instances.
    Any hope without restarting services?

    and check properties). We have resolved this issue twice by Stopping the SQL Server analysis service,removing db folders from Analysis Server Data folder and starting the services back on. The db folder that we removed was advised by the BI team.
    The SQL Server Analysis Server is 2012 SP1

    Hi RB_ORIPW,
    The table with name of 'XXX' doesn't exist.
    An error occurred when loading the model(Micorsoft.AnalysisServices)
    If I understanding correctly, you encounter the error randomly, now what you want it that avoid this issue completely, other than stop the services, detele the db filder and restart the services, right?
    The error might be caused by that the data file is corrupted. However, we cannot give you the exact reason that cause this issue. You can troubleshoot this issue by using the Windows Event logs and msmdsrv.log.
    You can access Windows Event logs via "Administrative Tools" --> "Event Viewer".  SSAS error messages will appear in the application log.
    The msmdsrv.log file for the SSAS instance that can be found in \log folder of the instance. (C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSAS10.MSSQLSERVER\OLAP\Log)
