Oracle 9i ODBC Problem

Hi all,
I am using Oracle 9i under Win2k.
I have 2 databases running namely WHORA2K & LS and theirs listeners ORAWIN2K & LSWIN2K resp.
When i use ODBC Manager and try to connect the databses using service name they work properly and also when provided in host string.
The Real Problem comes when i create connection string in VC++ as it connects databse LS always when i write following in connection string tried the following connection string patterns.

ANY GUESS HOW CAN I MAKE THIS RUN. AS I WANTED TO CONNECT BOTH THE DATABSES ONE BY ONE.

No Errors as such but some amazing facts are
1. If i close the Sencond Database which is always accessed named LS then i try to connect if get TNS Protocol Adapter Error. as i m trying to connect on first database named WHORA2K.
2. If i execute the exe in batch file with a line above then i picks up which is
set ORACLE_SID=WHORA2K
3. By using setenvironmentvariable in vc++ i can connect to both the database as i change the values of %ORACLE_SID% AT RUNTIME.
This is wht i found to make it wrk as there shld be some other best way to doing it.

Oracle 11gr2 ODBC - error updating linked table (Ora 01722 and 01461)

Good day folks,
My shop has just moved to 11gR2 client and server. We were previously using 11gR1 with no issues (and before that, 10, 9, 8, etc). After moving from 11r1 to 11r2, we began getting errors from some of our MS Access ODBC applications with linked Oracle tables. The error would occur when executing an UPDATE statement that had a table join in it. Here is a simple example:
UPDATE TableX SET TableX.Fieldx = “valuex” WHERE TableX.Fieldx = TableZZZ.Fieldx AND TableZZZ.fieldzzz is not null
Currently, after moving to 11r2 client, an update query like the one above will error out in one of the following ways:
- odbc -- update on a linked table failed - Ora 01722 invalid number
- ORA-01461: can bind a LONG value only for insert into a LONG column
- Or it will say that the records were not updated because they are locked.
In some cases, I have noticed some records being updated that were not supposed to be updated.. records that the where clause was meant to exclude. That is very unsettling.
I understand that perhaps an update statement shouldn’t be joining table and perhaps it should be done over a couple calls, but the reality is – this code is out there in abundance and if there is a solution that doesn’t amount to my changing all this code or reverting to 11gR1, I would love to find it.
Since the query runs fine using SQL Plus and also runs fine if I run it against a local table in Access rather than a linked Oracle table – I figured the issue was possibly with the Oracle 11r2 ODBC driver. So, I switched the Oracle ODBC driver (sqora32.dll version 11.2.0.1 with version 11.1.0.7), and the problem went away.
I believe this verifies the issue resides with Oracle ODBC version 11.2.0.1. Can anyone help? I'm assuming it's not particularly wise to simply swap sqora32.dll files on all my clients machines, so I am searching for an actual solution here instead.
I also did performed ODBC tracing to see what Access is handing to the Oracle ODBC driver. I then used database or SQLNet tracing to see what the ODBC driver was handing off to SQLNet/database.

ORACLE RDB ODBC

Hi All,
I have a web application built using ASP.Net and communicates with a Web services which uses oracle rdb odbc driver to connect to RDB server, but after a while I started getting this error when executing simple statements like insert or update against the database:

There you are getting much faster a response because that site is watched by Oracle Rdb Engineering and Support.
In your special case: does this happen frequently, is that still a problem for you? In that case enable client logging and if the client log file contains a message like SQLSRV-E-IDLEUSERTIMEOUT then you might have just a too small idle user timeout for your SQL/Services service that you use for your ODBC connection. You can change that value easily:
SQLSRV> ALTER SERVICE <your service> IDLE_USER_TIMEOUT <new value in seconds>;
If that does not help then you can always log a Service Request with Oracle Support.

Oracle 10g ODBC driver with Windows 7 32 bit connecting to Excel

Hi Everyone,
I'm having an issue connecting to our oracle 10g database (64 bit system) from a 32 bit windows 7 installation running excel 2010/2007 using odbc drivers. Our excel spreadsheets worked without issue in windows xp.
In windows 7 I have been able to install the odbc driver via the following method:
1. Download the oracle 'basic' client and oracle 'odbc' client from www.oracle.com and extract the contents:
instantclient-basic-win32-10.2.0.3-20061115
instantclient-odbc-win32-10.2.0.3-20061115
2. Create a folder 'oracle' and place the instantclient_10_2 folder inside.
3. Ensure all the basic and odbc files reside in this folder.
4. Create a 'network' folder within instantclient_10_2
5. Create an 'admin' folder within 'network'
6. Create sqlnet.ora and tnsnames.ora files within the 'admin' folder:
7. Run 'obdc_install' within the instantclient_10_2 folder
8. Download and run the oracle odbc driver exe file from www.oracle.com (ORA10203.exe)
9. Go to Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Data Sources and create a new System DN
This allows excel spreadsheets connecting ONLY to oracle to function.
Unfortunately some of our spreadsheets connect to both a MySQL database as well as oracle. Spreadsheets connecting only to MySQL also function correctly, however, as soon as the vb associated with a spreadsheet includes a mysql call followed by an oracle call the spreadsheets fail. In Excel 2007 excel crashes completely everytime. In Excel 2010 the mysql data is generated, then when the script hits to oracle odbc connection there is a long pause, the oracle ODBC driver connect pops up requesting a username/password (this didn't happen in xp), then the data source selection pops up, then the username/password connect screen pops up again, and finally it fails with a runtime error '1004' General ODBC error.
If you look at the VB script it's failing at the Refresh BackgroundQuery statement in the ODBC connection block:

Also if you try to edit the oracle ODBC connections in Control Panels -> Administrative Tools -> Data Sources, ODBC crashes 95% of the time.

Well, here's what I'd check anyway..
1) get Process Explorer from http://sysinternals.com
2) make a mysql connection, get a list of dll's loaded (include the location and version columns in the lower pane output)
3) close that, then make an ora odbc connection, get a list of dlls.
4) close that, then make a mysql connection followed by an ora odbc connection, get a list of dlls
5) compare the lists of loaded dlls. In particular, the difference between #3 and #4, is there a dll dependency that gets loaded by oracle's odbc that comes from a different location when you've opened a mysql connection first?
May or may not help, but might turn up a difference to help point you in a direction.

Oracle 10g forms problem

hi
can any body help me?
i have installed oracle developer 10g with oracle 8i database
when i run any form including the test.fmx
it always ask to install JInitiator although it has been installed (appears in the control panel and in c:\program file\oracle folder)
another problem appears after completing the installtion of JInitiator
the browser views the HTML tags of the form not execute it
so does any body have any idea???

From the Windows Start menu, choose Run, type regedit, and click OK.
Expand the registry nodes HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > ORACLE.
Make a backup copy of this key by right-clicking it and selecting Export from the context menu.
Select one of the HOME nodes beneath the ORACLE node (the one for Developer Suite). Ensure that you have opened the correct node by verifying that the key FORMS90_PATH exists in that node.
From the Registry Editor menu, select Edit > New > String Value. Type in the name FORMS90_HIDE_OBR_PARAMS.
Double-click FORMS90_HIDE_OBR_PARAMS and in the Value data field enter false, then click OK.
Close the registry editor.
Now when you run a form from Forms Builder, it should show parameters, including userid, in the URL, but it should run fine.
15. Set the path for Forms Builder to locate icons:
a) Double-click the UI_ICON key to open it for editing.
b) For the value data, append the path to the .gif file that you will use for the
button icon, which is the \icons subdirectory of your lab directory. Separate this

Oracle Report Printing problem

on network printer but it's print blank page however network printer is not my default printer when i set default printer

i have made one oracle 6i reports. its is quite wide.when i run the report it shrink into too small font.
and i increse it font size it by pressing + button on menu bar it looks okay.

The report rendering engine tries to fit the report page into the physical page size. This results in shrinking of font size,etc.
To fix
a) reduce the content on the report to something reasonable for printing.(Std paper sizes and orientation)
b) change the page size selection. Of course, you will need a printer and paper of the size you set.

When you go to get connection you have to set the ORACLE_SID enviroment variable or use the service name in the string to get connection.

Oracle 9i ODBC Drivers on Windows 7 Enterprise 32 bit

Hi,
Can any one help me with the information, If the Oracle 9i ODBC drivers supported on Windows 7 Enterprise 32 bit, Access 2007 as the front end and Oracle 9i database as the backend.
If the 9i drivers are not supported on Windows 7 Enterprise 32 bit which version is the supported version.

There is no driver for windows 7 (32-bit) to connect Oracle 9i (9.1) for .Net.
.NET libraries for Oracle and OLE DB providers for Oracle both are available for higher version

ORACLE 8i ODBC

i am using VFP5 as a frontend and oracle 8i as a back end. i am connecting oracle thru
ODBC.
When i try to execute any replication
procedure thru VFP5 i get an error message
'client cannot begin a transaction'. To resolve this i installed oracle8.05 ODBC
in the 8i machine and execute the replication
procedure it is working smoothly. so what
i want to know is is there any bug
in the oracle 8i odbc. have they released
any ODBC patch for ORACLE 8i.

The Oracle ODBC driver certainly supports LOBs. I'm reasonably
confident it supports BFILEs as well, but you'd probably have to
double-check the docs.

I did the search for 16 bit in it and found some interesting information.
The other piece of information I can share is the Oracle 11 client has issues connecting to Oracle 9.
An Oracle 10 clients might have a better chance, but the catch is finding it.
The last client I remember working on these OS's was Oracle 8. But I doubt that will connect to Oracle 11.

How to install Oracle Lite ODBC driver without connecting the mobile server

My Oracle Lite version is 10g R3.
I am using branch office version application.
I wanted to connect oracle client database(.odb file) via Lite DSN in a windows XP machine without installing the client in that device.
Some of my users wanted to access the client database from backend which requires a DSN entry in that device.Oracle Lite ODBC gets registered in the device only when we do a setup from the mobile server or if Oracle 10g Lite MDK is installed.
I do not want either of this to be done in my user PC. I wanted a ODBC utility which will register oracle Lite ODBC Driver (Normal & Cleint) in the user PC so that i can manually create and configure the DSN.
Does anyone have a solution for this?

ODBC problems with Oracle 8.1.5 on Windows 2000

Hi,
I have got a problem when i configure ODBC on Windows 2000.
When I test the driver with ODBC test driver, the programs doesn't respond when i use Oracle ODBC Driver first but responds when I use Microsoft Driver For Oracle first and then Oracle ODBC Driver.
Then I have a system 5 error when I use ODBC with ASP.
Is it Oracle 8.1.5 which is not compatible with Windows 2000 or a problem in Windows 2000 configuration ?

I think I was having the same problem; programs attempting to connect w/ODBC (including ODBCTest) would hang. After downloading and installing a newer ODBC driver from oracle (for me 8.1.5.5 worked), I was able to connect. Hope this helps!

Windows Vista Oracle 10g Express Edition ODBC problem

Hi,
I am running my Oracle 10g Xpress Edition locally on Windows Vista Enterprise Edition. I am trying to create an ODBC connetion to the local XE using Window ODBC utility. I selected the Oracle in XE driver to create the connection, when I test it I get
Unable to connect
SQLState=S1000
[Oracle][ODBC][Ora]ORA-28547: connection to server failed, probable Oracle net admin error...
I am new to Oracle kindly excuse my ignorance :-)

I think you should probably download the file again, it might be corrupt.

Oracle*i Lite ODBC Problem

I have just installed Oracl8iLite on my laptop. with win98 ver 2 and 32 meg of ram.
I have run into ODBC driver problems.
Will I have the same problem with
Oracle8i Personnel Edition?

What kind of ODBC driver problems are you having?
I'm having some ODBC driver problems myself and the error message is "The ODBC resource DLL (C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\ODBCINT.DLL) is a different version than the administrator (C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\ODBCAD32.EXE)"...
Are you having the same problem?
Can anyone tell me how to solve this problem?
