Is Oracle 8i Lite Support Pro C ? if yes how to install Pro C with Oracle 8i Lite ? Is Pro C come along with 8i Lite CD ? or it has to be purchased ?
Hi,
I am qouting below from the oracle 8i Lite documentation which says it supports triggers . Please clarify.
Oracle Lite DBMS
Oracle Lite DBMS is a lightweight (50KB - 750KB), Java enabled database designed from the ground up for laptops, handheld computers, PDAs and smartphones. It supports industry standard ODBC, JDBC, SQLJ, and Java Stored Procedures and Triggers. It provides a streaming fast "C" interface, OKAPI, to its object kernel. It also supports Java Access Classes, JAC, a fast and easy way to make Java Objects persistent. Oracle Lite DBMS now supports all popular mobile platforms, including Palm OS, EPOC, and Windows CE, letting you deploy enterprise applications on virtually any mobile device.

Oracle 8.1.7 Pro*C on Windows XP Problems
Two years ago I had Pro*C, (Oracle 8.1.7), running on NT v 4.0 service pack 5. I used the cl.exe compiler successfuly and gcc, (2.95 I think). This time I have installed Oracle 8.1.7 client on Windows XP Professional and none of the programs work. If I try to run code built on this platform with the make files and code that worked 2 years ago the programs crash. I am stumped. Can anybody help me or point me to some documentation.
MartynTom,
Thanks for replying.
I don't see what I can compile. The initial program I am trying to compile is very simple it has a connect statement followed by the definition of a cursor, the cursor is opened and the fetch is performed. The program crashes on performing the open of the cursor. It seems to me that Pro*C is producing C output that the comipilers, (cl.exe in the visual studio .Net IDE, or mingw gcc for win32), cannot turn into runnable code on the Windows XP Professional platform. Pro*C is not open source code so I cannot recompile that, Microsoft cl.exe is most definately not open source. gcc is open source and I suppose I could recompile that but surely the mingw win32 compiler should work as it is standard and widely used. Anyway the output of both the compilers fails. Maybe I will compile gcc for my installation but it seems to me like Pro*C is probably the culprit here and trying to run the Oracle 8.1.7 version on XP may not be possible. I posted here in case this is a known problem.
Another thought has just occured to me that maybe I should try running a 10g or 9i version of Pro*C on the 8.1.7 installation. How would I get this? Would I have to install the whole installations to get the binary?

Linux 6.1/Oracle 8.1.5 Pro C compilation core dumps
Linux installation did not place stdarg.h or stddef.h in the /usr/include directory for some reaon. I located different copies in other directories and have created symobolic links to them all in the end. BUT all result in the following error when I attempt to make sample1.pc in $ORACLE_HOME/precomp/demo/proc. Has anyone got any ideas how I can fix this problem.
Yours hopefully Kev
make -f demo_proc.mk sample1
gmake -f /oracle/app/oracle/product/8.1.5/precomp/demo/proc/demo_proc.mk
OBJS=sample1.o EXE=sample1 build

nullThanks for your input. But having investiagted further I have made progress.
On one of the FAQ docs listed throughout the Linux Forum I found an example of what should be in the pcscfg.cfg file. Once this was in place I then had, /usr/bin/ld cannot find -laio (or the file /usr/lib/libaio.a). To get a clean(ish) compile, I created a symbolic link from libc.a to libaio.a which is crude but was effective. I had a working Pro C exe.
I understand that the second patch solves the libaio.a prob as well as others. But a colleague has installed it and had to regress it, due to more damaging problems he listed but I cannot recall at this time.
Thanks again. -
Oracle BRM / Win 7 Pro x64 / PIN_ERR_DM_CONNECT_FAILED:26
Hello all
I'm trying to install Oracle BRM but when running pin_setup.bat I have the output below.
I tried on Win 7 Pro x64 and on Windows XP Pro.
I also tried to see if there were any connection attempt when the errors "pcmdd: bad connect for PCWORK, errno 9" is shown, using Wireshark, but it seems that there is no connection attempt when this message is printed to the output.
As the error is exactly the same on Win 7 Pro and Win XP Pro, I think that this is not an operating system problem.
Do you know what I am doing wrong ?
Thanks

Oracle 10g Listener XP pro need to be restarted ...
Hello all.
Here is my problem. I have oracle 10g installed on a computer with Windows XP pro Sp1a. Every thing work fine despite 1 point. When the computer is restarted, a small software starts the different Oracle Services (Oracle Database Service and listener) and wait for the 2 services to be in the state "started". After startup, the two services are in the state "started" but, sometimes, I can not get connected to Oracle. In the listener log, I have a message "TNS-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor".
To solve the problem, I have to restart either the listener service or the oracle service or both of them.
My problem is that this computer must be an "auto starting system".
What can I do to solve this problem ???? Is there a specific order to start the process ?, Should I put dependency between them ???
Thank for your help.
D. GARRIVIERIf you use, as I think, dynamic service registration (no SID_LIST in Listener.ora for your DB), then it would be better to start the listener before the Database. If not, the registration could take a few seconds (or minutes). Anyway, if this is the problem, you should be able to connect after a few seconds (or minutes).

Oracle Best Practices Discussion Pros/Cons of using Synonyms
Please share your experience given the Pros/Cons of Developing Enterprise Database Applications using public and private Synonyms.
My recommendation to developers on my team is to avoid using Public Synonyms in their code and instead Fully Qualify the database object by schema owner.
Pros: When you drop a schema, you do not drop the public synonyms that they created. Therefore if you have to use synonym, make it private and not public.
Please share your experience!Fahd Mirza wrote:
Well I rarely use public synonyms and that only case of db links. For example, I have a scenario, in which I have hooked up a MS SQLSERVER database with Oracle database through Heterogenous Services. I am accessing the SQLSERVER table in real time, through HS, in Oracle in real time, and then from this Oracle environment I have created db links to many other interested databases. In those interested database, I have created public synonyms over those dblinks.
It's so transparent for the interested databases. But I have documented this whole configuration in great detail for any upcoming DBA, just in case I leave, or expire or anything. Sounds interesting - this might be worth 'cleaning' and publishing to OTN's Articles. HOW to use new Oracle 9i Features in Pro*C
Hi All,
I am an Pro*C developer. I tried using Oracle 9i Features like RIGHT OUTER JOIN, FULL OUTER JOIN, CASE ... etc inside proc program. But I am getting error while compiling it.
My sample code:

Can anyone guide me on this.
Regards,
ghuYou will probably need to use dynamic SQL.
See the discussion at:
http://asktom.oracle.com/pls/ask/f?p=4950:8:::::F4950_P8_DISPLAYID:53140567326263
(while the question deals with SQLX, the answer is the same - Pro*C can't parse all SQL, but dynamic SQL is not parsed by Pro*C) -
How to store txt file into Oracle 7 Database using Pro*C
Hi,
I want to store a txt file into Oracle 7 database table using
Pro*C application. But do not know what type of column to use.
At first glance it appeared to me as LONG can serve the purpose
but later I noticed that I can not do the sequential read/write
in LONG type of column. That is, I have to use chunks of max of
2GB (or file lenght) to read/write into such columns.
I want something simiar to CLOB of Oracle 8.
I would appreciate if you can provide me solution.
Thanks,
AnuragYou store images in a BLOB column in the database.
However, inserting image in that column and displaying data/image from that column are 2 very different tasks.
If you are using Oracle forms, displaying is easy. Default block sitting on the table with BLOB column, can be easily mapped to image box (or similar control), which will display that image.
Inserting images will be a different ball game. If your forms are web based (i.e. run from browser) and you want to insert images from client machine, some special arrangements are required.
If images are on database server and you want to insert them in database, the stored procedure given in the earlier thread (posted above) will do the job. -
Hey Oracle ! Say XP Pro not just XP or Windows
The top level description for software should say XP Pro not XP. This is a very common issue. In the last 30 days, there have been over 1,400 posting regarding XP Home. Give users a break and make it clear from the very beginning
that XP Home is not supported by any Oracle products.See the extensive advice on the topic of setting up a PC running Windows XP to connect to an Airport Express or Airport Extreme Base Station at http://www.efelix.co.uk/tech/windowsxp.html
If the PC doesn't "see" the Airport Express wireless network at all, I'd say you haven't installed the Linksys wireless network adapter properly. -
