Oracle 9i Reports and Text PDS

We are using Oracle 9i Reports for printing reports with text PDS on Windows NT.
We have developed our own textpds.conf and replaced with the file which is present at the following location.
ORACLE9iReportsHOME\reports\conf\
My problem is:
1. We are using comma separted text file. But what I gathered from the documentation is that I need to hardcode the name of data input text file in the text query while building the report rdf. Can this name not be supplied to rwclient as the paramter.
This hardcoding of the text file is imposing the problem of replacing the text input file everytime the new report is generated.
If somebody can help me in this regard then it will be great.

Hi Ashish,
Currently this is not possible using TextPDS. You can create a script which copies/moves the intended data file to the file name you specified at design time.

The Oracle Reports Team.

    Hi...
    I had a problem like my BAM's ADC service was not starting up. I could resolve the problem but once that was done, a new problem araised like this;
    All my reports and the Data objects were missing . I couldn't find anything in the Architect and the Viewer. All the users that were created were found missing in the 'login management' of the BAM administrator. I check out my BAM Schema,as you all know the default schema "Orabam". I could find all my dataobjects in the tables section.
    Can any one of you throw more light on it as to how would I get back my Data objects and reports??
    and Kindly tell me where exactly do these reports get saved....
    Any light on these will really be appreciated....

  • Oracle Report6i - Report and Spreadsheet in one rdf file

    Hi ALL,
    My user wants to have an Oracle report with header, titles etc. and also a CSV file in the same Report or rdf file.
    I am thinking of using a parameter to select either the Report or the CSV file or both.
    I know I can do this in 2 different rdf files.
    Can it be done in the same rdf file? If so someone please help me on this. How can I create 2 different
    data models, 2 different layout models etc in the same rdf. That is what I am after.
    We are using Report6i which is a bummer but the Company is going .NET and does not want to spend
    resources on the latest Oracle Application server.
    Thanks,
    Suresh

    You may do the regular Oracle report as usual and create the CSV file in After Report Trigger using PL/SQL coding, like ....
    V_OUTFILE := text_io.fopen(L_FILENAME,'A');
    V_OUTSTRING := 'EMPLOYEE TYPE/DEPARTMENT WISE DETAILS';
    TEXT_IO.PUT_LINE(V_OUTFILE, V_OUTSTRING);
    --EXCEL FILE HEADS
    V_OUTSTRING :='EMPLOYEE NUMBER'||CHR(9)||'EMPLOYEE NAME'||' '||'DEPARTMENT NO'||' '||'SALARY'||' '||'DESG' ||' '||'EMP MOD';
    TEXT_IO.PUT_LINE(V_OUTFILE, V_OUTSTRING);
    --V_out_file := Text_IO.Fopen(L_FILENAME,'w');
    FOR C1_REC IN C1 LOOP
    V_OUTSTRING:=C1_REC.empno||CHR(9)||C1_REC.ename||' '||C1_REC.deptno||' '||C1_REC.sal||' '||C1_REC.desg||' '||C1_REC.empmod;
    TEXT_IO.PUT_LINE(V_OUTFILE, V_OUTSTRING);
    END LOOP;
    --IF Text_IO.Is_Open(V_OUTFILE) THEN
    Text_IO.Fclose(V_OUTFILE);
    SRW.MESSAGE(100,'File '||L_FILENAME|| ' Generated Successfully....');

  • Can APEX produce report output similar to "Oracle Discover report"

    Hi All:
    We are having some Oracle Discover reports and I like to see whether we can deliver the same report format in APEX 3.1.2.
    We got a table which stores sales detailed information. The table looks like:
    Division Ln Of Business Year Month Amount
    ================================
    KA Computer 2008 12 1234.67
    KA Computer 2008 11 4455
    KA Desk 2008 12 9999
    KE Phone 2008 12 34566.89
    KE Service 2008 12 343434
    We have an Oracle discover report built on top of this detail information table. The output (HTML format) looks like:
    ==============================================================
    Net Sales Report As of <SYSDATE>
    Year: 2008
    Month: 09
    Sales Forecast Variance
    Dvision Ln of Business
    KA Computer 10000 90000 -80000
    Desk 20000 10000 10000
    Service 30000 30000 0
    KE Phone 40000 40000 0
    Service 50000 60000 -10000
    150000 230000 -70000 (This is summary information)
    ================================================================
    Basically, this summary sales report is reviewed by executive team on daily basis. And it show all summary information break by division, line of business etc.
    Can you APEX deliver the same report output like Oracle discover report? I don't want use interactive report format. (You can't expect company CEO to manually summary the data). The report should already summarized when ECO logins to APEX.
    If you can show me an example how to do it, I would greatly appreciate.
    BTW, has anyone compare the advantage and disadvantage between APEX report and Oracle Discover report? A white paper would be great for the difference.
    Thanks in advance!
    Kevin

    You can create almost any kind of dashboard using apex but apex is not a tool comparable to discoverer. There are also some limitations where it doesn't make sense to try to solve someting using apex and where discoverer is simply better. Apex wasn't made to replace discoverer. Your requirement sounds fairly simple to me and I would say yes, apex can do that for you.

  • Oracle XML reports , Discoverer Reports documentation

    Hi all...
    Can anyone plz let me know whr can i get the documentation for Oracle XML reports and discoverer reports.

    My previous post is a link to the documentation for Discoverer and for Oracle Reports (which can produce output in XML). Here's a link to the documentation for BI Publisher (formerly XML Publisher).

  • How to burst reports in text and XML format using API

    Hi there,
    I need to be able to burst PDF, Excel etc reports and at the same time, generate XML files containing metadata that will accompany the PDF files to their destination. The reason for this, is that the destination requires metadata to class the documents in the content management system.
    My issue is that I just cannot get bursting to XML, text or HTML format right. There is very little documentation available around creating reports in these formats using the API's and perhaps someone who has gotten this right can, once and for all, solve this issue where others can find the solution.
    Alright, here is some sample supporting documentation (For the sake of the question, I have removed the bursting to PDF, Excel etc. formats and I am just focusing on the XML output):
    In my code for bursting, I make use of the following constructor...
    DocumentProcessor dp =
    new DocumentProcessor("ControlFile.xml", "TestData.xml", "temp");
    The ControlFile.xml looks like this...
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <xapi:requestset xmlns:xapi="http://xmlns.oracle.com/oxp/xapi">
    _<xapi:request select="/DATA/LIST_BRANCH/BRANCH">
    ___<xapi:delivery>
    ______<xapi:filesystem id="dst" output="C:\${BRANCH_NAME}.xml"/>
    ___</xapi:delivery>
    ___<xapi:document output-type="text" delivery="dst">
    ______<xapi:template type="xsl-fo" location="Template.xsl"></xapi:template>
    ___</xapi:document>
    _</xapi:request>
    </xapi:requestset>
    The data in my TestData.xml looks like this:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <DATA>
    ___<LIST_BRANCH>
    ______<BRANCH>
    __________<BRANCH_NAME>BRANCH 1</BRANCH_NAME>
    ______________ OTHER IRRELEVANT DATA
    ______</BRANCH>
    ______<BRANCH>
    __________<BRANCH_NAME>BRANCH 2</BRANCH_NAME>
    ______________ OTHER IRRELEVANT DATA
    ______</BRANCH>
    ___</LIST_BRANCH>
    </DATA>
    In my ControlFile.xml, I reference my XSL file called Template.xsl which should do my transformations into XML. That file looks like:
    <xsl:stylesheet version="2.0" xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform">
    __<xsl:output method="xml" indent="yes">
    __<xsl:template match="/">
    ____<METADATA>
    _______<BRANCH>
    ___________<xsl:value-of select="BRANCH_NAME"/>
    _______</BRANCH>
    ____</METADATA>
    __</xsl:template>
    </xsl:stylesheet>
    I have tried about forty variations of the ControlFile.xml and Template.xsl and have had no luck. Among the various error messages that the compiler has reported to me, these are the most common:
    [101507_055953158][][EXCEPTION] Error while generating the Document...
    [101507_055953158][][EXCEPTION] org.xml.sax.SAXException: element metadata is not supported yet.
    [101507_061037084][][EXCEPTION] Error while generating the Document...
    [101507_061037094][][EXCEPTION] oracle.xml.parser.v2.XMLParseException: Start of root element expected.
    I have managed in some cases to get the API code to compile, but the outputs are empty 0kb files.
    I have also exported an XSL-FO file from word, but the output is always PDF even with tweaking.
    I have wasted about 9 hours on this problem and it is driving me mad! If anyone has ideas, tips and/or solutions, they would be very welcome.
    Thanks in advance,
    Andrew

    Is the Design in Character Units set to Yes?
    How are you viewing your layout in report editor? Are you viewing with Grid?
    If it is Yes and with grid, try to fit your layout objects within the Grid.

  • Oracle reports and multiple pages

    I am new the Oracle Reports and I am trying to generate a report that can continue to the another page. For instance, if my list of items exceeds the first page of the report, the remaining items will be printed on the next page. We can get it to continue to the next page, but the formatting of the following pages after the first page needs to be different. Currently, it is placing the remaining items in the same position as the first page. The remaining items should be further up the page.
    In short, how do I generate 1 report with 2 different formats. All pages beside the 1st page will be the same.
    Any guidance is appreciated.

    Please post the details of the application release, database version and OS.
    I would like to ask for your help regarding printing from concurrent requests.
    I am currently having an issue with printing multiple pages from Oracle reports, both in text format and RTF/PDF formats.
    When I generate a multiple page report and print it directly from a concurrent request, print outs generate extra space after each page even though page size is indicated in the reports (all of them are in letter size).What if you print the output file from the OS, can you reproduce the issue then?
    Troubleshooting (Printing) [ID 104528.1]
    An Extra Empty Page Is Printed at the End of Requests Output [ID 1011499.7]
    I have already tried editing the printer drivers both the actual driver config file and through the application but the results are still the same.Can you reproduce the issue with other printers?
    This is very important since printing is done on continuous paper and continuous pre-printed forms
    Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.If the issue is urgent, please log a SR.

  • Saving report as PDF and text file

    Currently, I saved my report as PDF. It opens in Acrobat reader automatically when the report is executed. Is there a way for me to save it as PDF and as a text file at the same time? (without having to open the file in Acrobat reader and saving it)

    You can add your PDF and TEXT file formats to a distribution list (Instead of GENERATE REPORT TO A FILE). To do this:
    1. Go to your Object Navigator and highlight your report.
    2. Right click on your report. Select Property Palette.
    3. Select Distribution
    4. You can add of of the formats that you want to print or save to the report to.
    5. You will have to add Distribution Id (any number starting with 1) where you want the file to be saved (c:\my_reports\inventory.pdf), the type of file: PDF and how many copies you want: 2
    6. Click OK after finishing...
    To make it work ... You would highlight your report from your Object Navigator and then choose FILE-DISTRIBUTE and this will save it to all the files your specified and/or printer.

  • Performance Issue Crystal Report and Oracle

    Hello,
    We have one procedure that takes 3 input parameters and returns Cursor from Procedure that is used to design the report. There is no caluculation involved here and cursor is opended dynamically. We are using Oracle Native connection.
    When we click on preview button it takes lots of time ( >10 Mins) to show complete data. While we call the same procedure in application and generate HTML report using Cursor returned it is done in < 15 Seconds. Can some point me where to look into to improve the performance of Crystal Report.
    DB: Oracle 10G
    CR: Version XI

    Hi Vadiraja
    The performance of a report is related to:
    External factors:
    1. The amount of time the database server takes to process the SQL query.
    ( Crystal Reports send the SQL query to the database, the database process it, and returns the data set to Crystal Reports. )
    2. Network traffics.
    3. Local computer processor speed.
    ( When Crystal Reports receives the data set, it generates a temp file to further filter the data when necessary, as well as to group, sort, process formulas, ... )
    4. The number of record returned
    ( If a sql query returns a large number of records, it will take longer to format and display than if was returning a smaller data set.)
    Report design:
    1. Where is the Record Selection evaluated.
    Ensure your Record Selection Formula can be translated in SQL, so the data can be filter down on the server, otherwise the filtering will be done in a temp file on the local machine which will be much slower.
    They have many functions that cannot be translated in SQL because they may not have a standard SQL for it.
    For example, control structure like IF THEN ELSE cannot be translated into SQL. It will always be evaluated in Crystal Reports. But if you use an IF THEN ELSE on a parameter, it will convert the result of the condition to SQL, but as soon as uses database fileds in the conditions it will not be translated in SQL.
    2. How many subreports the report contains and in section section they are located.
    Minimise the number of subreports used, or avoid using subreports if possible because
    subreports are reports within a report, and if you have a subreport in a details section, and the report returns 100 records, the subreport will be evaluated 100 times, so it will query the database 100 times. It is often the biggest factor why a report takes a long time to preview.
    3. How many records will be returned to the report.
    Large number of records will slow down the preview of the reports.
    Ensure you only returns the necessary data on the report, by creating a Record Selection Formula, or basing your report off a Stored Procedure, or a Command Object that only returns the desired data set.
    4. Do you use the special field "Page N of M", or "TotalPageCount"
    When the special field "Page N of M" or "TotalPageCount" is used on a report, it will have to generate each page of the report before it displays the first page, therfore it will take more time to display the first page of the report.
    If you want to improve the speed of a report, remove the special field "Page N of M" or "Total Page Count" or formula that uses the function "TotalPageCount". If those aren't use when you view a report it only format the page requested.
    It won't format the whole report.
    5. Link tables on indexed fields whenever possible.
    6. Remove unused tables, unused formulas, unused running totals from the report.
    7. Suppress unnecessary sections.
    8. For summaries, use conditional formulas instead of running totals when possible.
    9. Whenever possible, limit records through selection, not suppression.
    10. Use SQL expressions to convert fields to be used in record selection instead of using formula functions.
    For example, if you need to concatenate 2 fields together, instead of doing it in a formula, you can create a SQL Expression Field. It will concatenate the fields on the database server, instead of doing in Crystal Reports. SQL Expression Fields are added to the SELECT clause of the SQL Query send to the database.
    11. Using one command as the datasource can be faster if you returns only the desired data set.
    It can be faster if the SQL query written only return the desired data.
    12. Perform grouping on server
    This is only relevant if you only need to return the summary to your report but not the details. It will be faster as less data will be returned to the reports.

    Girish Bhosale
