Oracle 9i - SP2-0735
I'm trying to install Oracle 9.2.x on Windows XP Professional. The install gets to the point of running the Oracle Data Configuration Assistant and bombs out with a large exection stack trace. While its running I see a whole bunch of command line boxes being called running SQL*Plus. If I go to a command line and attempt to run SQL*Plus I get the following error:
SP2-0735: Error 16 initalizing SQL*Plus Unable to allocate Dynamic memory.
Anyone have a clue what this means and how to fix it?

This post was originally posted to the Solaris Installation forum.
It has now been moved to the Forms forum, hopefully for closer topic alignment.
@ O.P.,
You need to be a bit more careful where you actually dump your posts.
Just because that other forum had "Installation" in its name doesn't mean it was the correct location.

How to Switch between Databases in ORACLE 10g?
Hi friends, im using ORACLE 10g.
I have two databases namely ORCL and ORCL1.
First I created ORCL and later ORCL1.
Now I am able to see the tables from ORCL1 only.
How can I switch to ORCL?
Thanks in advance.Hi Aman, I am posting the results below.
From the command prompt:
C:\>SET ORACLE_SID=ORCL

And from the SQL*Plus Editor:
SQL> SET ORACLE_SID=ORCL;

SQL> SELECT * FROM TAB;

So, I am able to get the tables through the command prompt.
But from the SQL*Plus Editor, I am not getting them.
How to get those tables(from ORCL) through the SQL*Plus editor?
Is there any other alternative for setting the ORACLE_SID permanently?
Thank you. -
Oracle Server's harddisk out of space. DBCompress in Oracle 9i
My oracle server's PC is running out a harddisk space because of volume of data. I deleted huge data in order to lessen the occupied space but still out and it doubled the occupied.
e.g.
DELETE FROM TABLE1 WHERE TBLNO > 100000
I am thinking of log files or the deleted data are still on the database but i dont know where.
Please teach me on how to database compress or other way to lessen the data size.
Thank you very much.

JapanThe following statements are the result of execution. Please teach me the meaning.
Actually your and my idea are the same but I don't know the implementation or on how to handle. I am using MSSQL before, Oracle is a little bit different.
Thanks.

Problems with Oracle 11g XE R2
Hi guys,
I've got a problem and try'n to solve it for abt a week now and tried many solutions.
My enviroment:
Windows 7 Professional SP 1 64-Bit
AMD Phenom II x4 940 @3.0 GH
4 GB RAM (In Usage while installing 40%)
Windows-Firewall is activated (but oracle.exe and lstnr.exe are configured as exception)
avast! Free Antivirus Version 2014.9.0.2018
Installation (both times with same outcome):
Installed O 11g XE 64-Bit in two different ways:
User I was logged in with is in Admingroup
Started installation via rightclick with administrationprivileges
I activated the administrators account and logged in with adminprivileges.
After that I've installed the 11g XE 64 bit
between both steps I cleaned everything up and restarted my system, registry was empty too and folder was deleted manually
at first I get this problem: Windows cannot find "http://127.0.0.1:%HTTPPORT%/apex/f?p=4950"
-> Manually changing %HTTPORT% to 8080
--> now I could doubleclick the shortcut, Firefox/IE/Chrome opens but 404 not Found-Error is returned
- OracleServiceXE, XracleXETNListener both are running

so I started investigating a bit more:
Registryfolder: HK_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE is installed
following subdirectories are installed: KEY_XE, ODP.NET, OracleMTSRecoveryService
What I tried (both ways, starting with and without adminstrationprivileges):
I created two new DWORD-Values in KEY_XE ORACLE_SID_AUTOSTART and -SHUTDOWN both with the value True and stopped and started the services, nothing changes.
Inserted both users (Administrator and normal User) in ORA_DBA-Group, nothing changes, even tried to turn it off and on again
wanted to connect to sqlplus via console:

Dürsin KurtOK guys I've found it out:
Problem was, the XE.bat-Script couldn't add me to the ORA_DBA-Group.
Reason: my Computername and my username, both had a vowel mutation "ü".
Reason it didn't work at my business-laptop too, both have my "Ü" in the username

Oracle 10g Express Edition Beta 3 Install Problems
I made three install attempts for this software, and I'll detail them below.
This was a fresh install on a computer that previously had no other version running
ATTEMPT 1
The installation procedure ran, but even though the OracleServiceXE service started, the server wouldn't work and I couldn't connect to it.
c:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\config\log\postDBCreation.log contained the following...
SQL> connect "SYS"/"&&sysPassword" as SYSDBA
ERROR:
ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied
SQL> set echo on
SQL> //create or replace directory DB_BACKUPS as 'D:\utils\oraclexe\app\oracle\flash_recovery_area';

SQL> begin
2 dbms_xdb.sethttpport('8080');
3 dbms_xdb.setftpport('0');
4 end;

SQL> create spfile='D:\utils\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\dbs/spfileXE.ora' FROM pfile='D:\utils\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\config\scripts\init.ora';
SP2-0640: Not connected
SQL> shutdown immediate;
ORA-01012: not logged on
SQL> connect "SYS"/"&&sysPassword" as SYSDBA
ERROR:
ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied
I proceeded to uninstall and then reinstall in attempt 2.
ATTEMPT 2
This time, the installation procedure ran but didn't finish. It got up to the point where it said "Creating and starting services for Oracle Database 10g Express Edition..." and it sat there for a long time doing nothing, but there was a process "IDriver.exe" using a large percentage of the CPU all that while.
I ended up having to kill the installation process with the task manager to stop it, and then since the installation wasn't successful had to manually delete everything in c:\oraclexe
ATTEMPT 3
This time the installation went a lot better and after the install, everything in c:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\config\log\postDBCreation.log looks normal.
I am able to connect to the database with sqlplus now, but the OracleXETNSListener process won't start.
When starting, it says this, but the OracleXETNSListener doesn't stay running:
C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\BIN>net start OracleXETNSListener
The OracleXETNSListener service was started successfully.
C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\BIN>net start OracleServiceXE
The OracleServiceXE service is starting.
The OracleServiceXE service was started successfully.
If I start the service in the windows services application it says "The OracleXETNSListener service on Local Computer started and then stopped..."
However, if I explicitly run c:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\bin\tnslsnr.exe from the commandline, it works.
Why won't it start as a service?Hello
I have the same problem.
My config :
- XP SP 2
Other installed products :
- last version Oracle JDevelopper
- Oracle Client 9.2.0 (the service does not run)
By the way,
JDev needs ORACLE_HOME set (c:\oracle for me).
Should Oracle XE be installed in %ORACLE_HOME% too or in an new empty folder (like c:\oraclexe) as it is recommended by the installer
I checked if I already use the port 1521 using netstat /ab but it seems this port is not used.
On a second PC, it works well.
How can I access the DB on my secondary PC from jdev on my priomary PC?
--> how can I only install OracleXE client on my primary PC?
Rgds

Oracle XE installation (TNS:protocl adapter error)
Hi,
I have been reading through all emails regarding installing Oracle 10g XE.
I have successfully installed XE on Windows XP on first attempt with no problems.
Next, I have to install on Windows 2000 but during the Installation process Task 1 of 5 ends prematurely.
I looked at postDBCreation.log and have following:
QL> connect "SYS"/"&&sysPassword" as SYSDBA

All Oracle Services are running, ORACLE_SID is set, as well as ORACLE_HOME,ORACLE_BIN, and Path set to ORACLE_HOME\bin
I have tried all suggestions but cannot make progress.
Any advice is welcome.

It seems to work.
3. value of TNS_ADMIN env variable.
I did not have it set as this machine never had Oracle before and I am newbie to Oracle. I will set it a try again. I'll also define TNS_NAME as I just learned about this one too.
now my Env variables have:
COMPUTERNAME=MYPC
ORACLE_BIN=c:\oraexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\bin
ORACLE_HOME=c:\oraexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server
ORACLE_SID=XE
Path=c:\oraexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\bin;..
REM THE FOLLIWNG I JUST ADDED
TNS_ADMIN=c:\oraexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\NETWORK\ADMIN
TNS_NAME=XE
Some more testing
======================
Now I have stopped and re-started the services in this order.
OracleXETNSListener
OracleServiceXE
OracleXEClrAgent
OracleMTSRecovery
These last two don't automatically start w/ Beta 3 but I started anyway.
A quick check to see if:
http://127.0.0.1:8087/apex comes up
No luck. Which I expected because I think the XE database needs to be created first. So let's check to see if I can get into sqlplus now.
And I still get:
SQL> connect system/pw1@XE as sysdba
ERROR:

Next, I am going to try to run XE.bat again, but first I am populating the seeddb directory w/
EXPRESS.CTL (5,840 KB)
express.dbc (5 KB)
EXPRESS.DFB (133,040 KB)
which I have set aside during the installation (per some other forum suggetion)
I invoked XE.bat as: xe pw1 pw1
passwords I have during install to SYS and SYSTEM
And XE.bat spits out:

Actually, I have 10 redo log files exists. All of them are here.
I tried your suggestion:
alter database clear unarchived logfile group 4;
The error msg I got is the same as before:
SQL> alter database clear unarchived logfile group 4;
alter database clear unarchived logfile group 4
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-01624: log 4 needed for crash recovery of instance nmdata (thread 1)
ORA-00312: online log 4 thread 1:
'G:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\10.2.0\ORADATA\NMDATA\REDO04.LOG'
Compared to losing all the data, it is OK for me lose some of them.
I have more than 1 TB data stored and 99.9% of them are raster images.
The loading of these data were the headache. If I can save them, I can bear the lost.
I want to grasp the last straw.
But I don't know how set the parameter: allowresetlogs_corruption
I got the error msg:
SQL> set allowresetlogs_corruption=true;
SP2-0735: unknown SET option beginning "_allow_res..."
I have run the command:
Recover database until cancel
Alter database open resetlogs
The error msg I got is the following:

HTML DB1.6 installation --Kjell Ove, please reply :-)
Hello,
After installed the Oracle 10g db, I tried two ways to install html db:
1. in the oracle 10g bin directory, I click the sqlplus icon, then a dos terminal show up:(I enter the following info, and get the errors)
Enter user-name: sysdba
Enter password:sysdba
ERROR:
ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied
Enter user-name: sysdba
Enter password:SYSDBA
ERROR:
ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied
Enter user-name: SYS
Enter password:
ERROR:
ORA-28009: connection to sys should be as sysdba or sysoper
2.I went to the dos cmd. line by click the "start",
enetr some info, and got some error:
SQL> Set ORACLE_SID=MYORACLE
SP2-0735: unknown SET option beginning "ORACLE_SID..."
SQL> sqlplus /nolog
SP2-0734: unknown command beginning "sqlplus /n..." - rest of line ignored.
SQL> connect sys as sysdba
Enter password:
ERROR:
ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error
The second option I tried only after I reinstalled the OracleClient10g. If I didn't reintall it, then the error will be sqlplus is an unknown command.
The password sysdba is the only password I set when I install Oracle db.
Any suggestion?
Appreciate your kind attention,
EmilyHello Kjell Ove,
I just got chance to test my intallation again. Thank you so much for your reply.
The following is the result I got:
1.>>Are you trying to access the http server from within the local pc?
Currently, I'm testing on my local pc. I need try to get the application accessiable from remote.
2. >>Can you access the http server on http://localhost:7777
no, it's not assessiable.
3. >>Are you sure 7777 is the correct port for the http server.
(check %ORACLE_HOME%\install\portlist.ini for the portnumber for the http server)
my file portlist.ini is :
Ultra Search HTTP port number =5620
Enterprise Manager Agent Port =
iSQL*Plus HTTP port number =5560
Enterprise Manager Console HTTP Port (myoracle) = 5500
Enterprise Manager Agent Port (myoracle) = 1830
So I guess the http server port for my pc is 5500
And I typied: http://localhost:5500. the secreen shows:
Oracle Application Server Containers for J2EE 10g (9.0.4.0.0)
Welcome! Your server is now running and you can start deploying your J2EE 1.3 applications
I got the a question in this page. For the Test Samples in this page:
the jsp file is not running. the serverlet can work.
Also If I ping 5500, it shows request time out
4. >>Are you sure that the http server is installed with the hostname localhost and not the actual hostname of the pc?
Check out the %ORACLE_HOME%\Apache\Apache\conf\httpd.conf.
Look for the ServerName parameter in this file. Does it say localhost? If not, substitute localhost with the hostname described here in your browser URL.
I did not find Apache under my oracle db installation directory. There is a dir. called "config" and it's empty. Is something worng about this ? My p.c. o.s.wondows xp 2002 professional.
5. >>Also, verify that the http server is up running by typing the following in cmd prompt.
cd %ORACLE_HOME%\opmn\bin
opmnctl status
Where I run the above command. it shows:
'opmnctl' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.
I didn't find the file opmnctl. There is file called ons. I run ons:
ons: Error: ORACLE_HOME is not set
6.Would you please tell how to set ORACLE_HOME ?
7. I installed oracle 10g, html db 1.6, and oracle 10g client. Do I need install oracle 10g companion cd?
Appreciate your instruct for my above 7 questions,
Emily -
Sqlplus not exiting w/ error code
When I run sqlplus like the following I would have expected it to return a status 1 instead of a 0:
sqlplus /nolog
SQL*Plus: Release 10.2.0.2.0 - Production on Mon Jan 8 08:41:39 2007

SQL> whenever SQLERROR EXIT 1 rollback;
SQL> select * from dual;

SQL>

echo $?

Why wouldn't sqlplus return me a 1 return code, and exit the script automatically?WHENEVER SQLERROR EXIT forces SQL*Plus to exit whenever SQL exception occurs. SP2-XXXX errors are internal SQL*Plus errors (not SQL errors) and they don't force SQL*Plus to exit regardless of WHENEVER SQLERROR setting.

I thank you all....
What I mean is.....the serveroutput on is using interactive process while you are on the sqlplus window. But If I run the job as background batch in dmbs_schedule where can I see the serverputput shown in the list?
or is there a default file, folder, table_logs, where all the batch activities are recorded?No, there isn't any such thing. If you want to get an output like the one is coming in sqlplus, you may want to use , for example, dbms_file and write into it. This code has to be written by you. The only other thing that you can check from the log of the scheduler is that whether the job ran successfully or not, which should be sufficient if you just want to check the status of the job.

Another Install Problem (With Log Files)
Hey there.
I've read many of the install problem threads and have tried numerous things to get this working, but to no avail. This is getting VERY frustrating.. :-E

I've set my temp directories (temp and tmp) both to point to c:\temp

Problem adding database schema , eroor : not connected
Thank you for reading my post
I download the demo sample from oracle soa web site . and i am trying to follow the tutorial to
create the database schema, to make this step complete
I create oracle_home and oracle_SID variables (Windows OS )
then
I open an sqlplus session (sys/pass as sysdba) and to make sure that i am
connected i execute
select * from V$database ;
it works
then i execute :
select * from hr.jobx
it works file.
it mean that i am connected to database.
but when i execute @build.sql i get the following errors , can some one help me ?
i should say that after i execute the @build.sql i can not execute any command because it says that SP2-0640:Not connected

I almost resolved the issue but i do not know whether it is a correct path that i used or not.
i have made some changes in build.sql as follow :
-i changed the schema name to HR , and its pass to HR_PASS
-i comment schema creation command
now it successfully executed.
but i can not understand what was the problem.

Problems creating a db in 11g with Sample Schemas
For a demo I'm doing I need the sample schemas.
I have tried to add it to my existing database using dbca, as well as creating a new database with the sample schemas. In both cases I run into a problem with insuficient priveleges. If I do not include the sample schemas I can create the db just nice with dbca, however since it is the sample schemas I need that does not help me a lot.
below the fist part of sampleSchema.log showing up til and including the first ORA-01031: insufficient privileges just ignoring it will lead to a lot more of them showing up.
Any suggestion how to fix this?

I'v got an install:
portal&CM
all on win2k with Oracle
EP6 SP2 Patch4-HF7
CMCOLL EP6 SP2 Patch4-HF2
everything is worked fine but after I set datasourse=LDAP+DB in ume I cant create collaboration rooms.
Eror message is:
"... There is no assistant settings.
Error in Room Creation Process! Please contact your System Administrator!"
I tried applying note 737305 (collaboration_service user service permission issue), but I cant seem to resolve this issue.
Plz, help!
Thanks in advance.Hi All!
In the list of categories you should mark one of the categories, e.g. "default_category". What I mean is, that you should just click a category, so it turns blue.
This works in my installation, <u>but</u>: I only have EP6 SP2.
Maybe the problem lies in SP3 or SP4. When I attended an EP course focused on KM and collaboration, a couple of months ago, lots of stuff didn't work due to SP3.
If the problem is due to SP3 or SP4 I don't have any suggestions to solve your problem - sorry.
Kind regards and good luck
Hanne
