Oracle 9iAS Interconnect Message Limits

What is the message saturation point for Oracle 9iAS Interconnect? In other words, is there a known upper limit for the number of messages per second/minute/hour/day or whatever that you can safely push through Oracle 9iAS Interconnect? In the absense of hard data, has anybody out there reached a point beyond which it does not make sense to push more messages through the system?

  • Oracle 9iAS Orion Server Crashes on Running RWSERVLET

We are developing a product with JSP as front end,EJB as middle tier and Oracle as DB.Oracle 9iAS is the deployment environment. We are using the RWSERVLET configuration. We have configured Orion to communicate with RWSERVLET.Rwservlet copied to web-inf/classes folder, entry given in web.xml accordingly. Two JAR files copied to lib folder. When the first request goes from client the report is getting displayed fine.
There is a delay in displaying the output of the request. If in case another request is sent from the same client before the first request is served by the reports server, the RWServlet makes the Orion of Oracle 9iAS to crash. The middle tier aborts with the following message..
    # HotSpot Virtual Machine Error, EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION
    # Error ID: 4F533F57494E13120E43505002D4
    abnormal program termination
Also, in reports there is no way of finding whether the report server is still serving the request or has finshed the request,so that atleast we can stop the user from making the second request,if the report server is serving the first request.IS IT A BUG IN RWSERVLET???? - Oracle Reports Team.Has it been rectified??.Is there a way of finding whether the report server has served the request or not??.We are in the end of our project and Oracle Reports have created this problem for us....
    Please help Oracle Reports Team.Help!!!!!!

    hello,
for your problem with the crash of OC4J, i would contact oracle support services.
if you set up the reports server database queues, it will mirror the server queue into a database table, where you can check what the status of your job is.
    regards,

  • Oracle RAC Interconnect, PowerVM VLANs, and the Limit of 20

    Hello,
Our company has a requirement to build a multitude of Oracle RAC clusters on AIX using Power VM on 770s and 795 hardware.
We presently have 802.1q trunking configured on our Virtual I/O Servers, and have currently consumed 12 of 20 allowed VLANs for a virtual ethernet adapter. We have read the Oracle RAC FAQ on Oracle Metalink and it seems to otherwise discourage the use of sharing these interconnect VLANs between different clusters. This puts us in a scalability bind; IBM limits VLANs to 20 and Oracle says there is a one-to-one relationship between VLANs and subnets and RAC clusters. We must assume we have a fixed number of network interfaces available and that we absolutely have to leverage virtualized network hardware in order to build these environments. "add more network adapters to VIO" isn't an acceptable solution for us.
Does anyone know if Oracle can afford any flexibility which would allow us to host multiple Oracle RAC interconnects on the same 802.1q trunk VLAN? We will independently guarantee the bandwidth, latency, and redundancy requirements are met for proper Oracle RAC performance, however we don't want a design "flaw" to cause us supportability issues in the future.
We'd like it very much if we could have a bunch of two-node clusters all sharing the same private interconnect. For example:
    Cluster 1, node 1: 192.168.16.2 / 255.255.255.0 / VLAN 16
    Cluster 1, node 2: 192.168.16.3 / 255.255.255.0 / VLAN 16
    Cluster 2, node 1: 192.168.16.4 / 255.255.255.0 / VLAN 16
    Cluster 2, node 2: 192.168.16.5 / 255.255.255.0 / VLAN 16
    Cluster 3, node 1: 192.168.16.6 / 255.255.255.0 / VLAN 16
    Cluster 3, node 2: 192.168.16.7 / 255.255.255.0 / VLAN 16
    Cluster 4, node 1: 192.168.16.8 / 255.255.255.0 / VLAN 16
    Cluster 4, node 2: 192.168.16.9 / 255.255.255.0 / VLAN 16
    etc.
Whereas the concern is that Oracle Corp will only support us if we do this:
    Cluster 1, node 1: 192.168.16.2 / 255.255.255.0 / VLAN 16
    Cluster 1, node 2: 192.168.16.3 / 255.255.255.0 / VLAN 16
    Cluster 2, node 1: 192.168.17.2 / 255.255.255.0 / VLAN 17
    Cluster 2, node 2: 192.168.17.3 / 255.255.255.0 / VLAN 17
    Cluster 3, node 1: 192.168.18.2 / 255.255.255.0 / VLAN 18
    Cluster 3, node 2: 192.168.18.3 / 255.255.255.0 / VLAN 18
    Cluster 4, node 1: 192.168.19.2 / 255.255.255.0 / VLAN 19
    Cluster 4, node 2: 192.168.19.3 / 255.255.255.0 / VLAN 19
Which eats one VLAN per RAC cluster.

    Thank you for your answer!!
I think I roughly understand the argument behind a 2-node RAC and a 3-node or greater RAC. We, unfortunately, were provided with two physical pieces of hardware to virtualize to support production (and two more to support non-production) and as a result we really have no place to host a third RAC node without placing it within the same "failure domain" (I hate that term) as one of the other nodes.
My role is primarily as a system engineer, and, generally speaking, our main goals are eliminating single points of failure. We may be misusing 2-node RACs to eliminate single points of failure since it seems to violate the real intentions behind RAC, which is used more appropriately to scale wide to many nodes. Unfortunately, we've scaled out to only two nodes, and opted to scale these two nodes up, making them huge with many CPUs and lots of memory.
Other options, notably the active-passive failover cluster we have in HACMP or PowerHA on the AIX / IBM Power platform is unattractive as the standby node drives no resources yet must consume CPU and memory resources so that it is prepared for a failover of the primary node. We use HACMP / PowerHA with Oracle and it works nice, however Oracle RAC, even in a two-node configuration, drives load on both nodes unlike with an active-passive clustering technology.
All that aside, I am posing the question to both IBM, our Oracle DBAs (whom will ask Oracle Support). Typically the answers we get vary widely depending on the experience and skill level of the support personnel we get on both the Oracle and IBM sides... so on a suggestion from a colleague (Hi Kevin!) I posted here. I'm concerned that the answer from Oracle Support will unthinkingly be "you can't do that, my script says to tell you the absolute most rigid interpretation of the support document" while all the time the same document talks of the use of NFS and/or iSCSI storage eye roll
We have a massive deployment of Oracle EBS and honestly the interconnect doesn't even touch 100mbit speeds even though the configuration has been checked multiple times by Oracle and IBM and with the knowledge that Oracle EBS is supposed to heavily leverage RAC. I haven't met a single person who doesn't look at our environment and suggest jumbo frames. It's a joke at this point... comments like "OMG YOU DON'T HAVE JUMBO FRAMES" and/or "OMG YOU'RE NOT USING INFINIBAND WHATTA NOOB" are commonplace when new DBAs are hired. I maintain that the utilization numbers don't support this.
I can tell you that we have 8Gb fiber channel storage and 10Gb network connectivity. I would probably assume that there were a bottleneck in the storage infrastructure first. But alas, I digress.
Mainly I'm looking for a real-world answer to this question. Aside from violating every last recommendation and making oracle support folk gently weep at the suggestion, are there any issues with sharing interconnects between RAC environments that will prevent it's functionality and/or reduce it's stability?
We have rapid spanning tree configured, as far as I know, and our network folks have tuned the timers razor thin. We have Nexus 5k and Nexus 7k network infrastructure. The typical issues you'd fine with standard spanning tree really don't affect us because our network people are just that damn good.

  • Application Ear file deployment on Oracle 9ias(9.0.3)

    Hi,
I'm trying to deploy an application (JSP + BC4J) under Oracle 9ias using the Enterprise Manager (EM).
No error occurs during the process but I can not load the application with internet explorer.
the following message appears : "Not Found
The requested URL /AgatteWF/index.jsp was not found on this server."
Deploying the application under OC4J standalone with the same ear file works fine.
Does anyone got that problem ?
    Any help is welcome
    regards

    Hi
I already had a look to the log files.
    They don't show any error.
the webcontext is correct but index.jsp is not placed under the "WEB_INF" directory.
I don't think that's the reason of the problem 'cause i succeeded once to deploy the same application under the IAS.
I made the same operations i did before (creating a new oc4j instance under IAS after having dropped the old one, deploying the application, creating the data source...)
But i don't know why it doesn't work this time.

  • Oracle 9iAS dcmctl permission error

How do I configure Oracle 9iAS to permit a new user (domain account) the ability to run the dcmctl utility?
Currently only the account used to install Oracle 9iAS is permitted to run the dcmctl utility. All other users receive the following error:
    dcmctl getstate -v
    ADMN-100999
    See Base Exception for details
    Base Exception:oracle.ias.repository.schema.schemaexception: Password cound not
be retrived. Run the application as the same user who installed the
application. See base exception for details.

Noticed your thread here, and it fits a question of mine also.
We are a dev/test shop and currently key developer/testers have ias_admin access for deploying and administering the OAS via the Console. As this is not production and they are doing heavy OAS work, this works nicely. The problem is they have no CLI access, as they are not oracle and their accounts do not belong to the DBA grp.
The ability to use a common admin user (ias_admin) in the console, and the restriction to run as oracle or DBA grp for the CLI (dcmctl) seems to be a rather large functionality gap that severely limits the ability of developers to write and run their own automated deployment scripts.
Has anyone else noticed this limitation and have any good ideas? (Stickybits are not allowed on our filesystems, so that workaround is unfortunately out for us also)

we have sucessfully installed oracle 9ias, and have also sucessfully run the forms that have been created, on the web browser.
The forms ran perfectly when it is on the same machine as oracle 9ias, but we cannot run the forms that sits on another machine.
we have tried everything that was told to do and have followed all the documentation, the forms product manager has replied to my question yesterday but all that was configured,
we were told to map the drive where the forms are sitting so that we can read it where the 9ias is based

i sent a message yesterday on the forms6i forum.
we have sucessfully installed oracle 9ias, and have also sucessfully run the forms that have been created, on the web browser.
The forms ran perfectly when it is on the same machine as oracle 9ias, but we cannot run the forms that sits on another machine.
we have tried everything that was told to do and have followed all the documentation, the forms product manager has replied to my question yesterday but all that was configured,
we were told to map the drive where the forms are sitting so that we can read it where the 9ias is based
    thanks

  • Installation of Oracle 9iAS

I am installing Oracle 9iAS in Windows NT environement with Service Pack 6.I have gone through the preinstalltion doc and accrdingly i have configured my machine.Currently i have oracle 8i Installed in my server.I am getting following error message during installation time.
The error message is as follows:
The target area c:\programfiles\oracle\inventory is being written to by another session.A write lock cannot be obtained.
After this i have shutdown the oracle 8i database instace and have also closed all the services of oracle from Windows services.I tried again and got the same error message. Then i have uninstalled oracle 8i database and tried to start the installation process of 9iAS.But still the same error message is persisting.
    thanks in anticipation.
    Please reply ASAP.

One reason of this may be that your 9iAS install user is not a member of ORA_DBA group. or the other reason may be your previous session of OUI is not properly killed so its still acessing the inventory so new OUI session can write to the same file.Check these two things...

  • Oracle 9iAS Infrastructure Installation

I have been trying to install Oracle 9iAS Infrastructure on a machine. My database version 9.0.1.1.1 is running on a seperate machine. Every time I am trying to install, i am getting an error OC4J installation failed.

    4) Last, the infrastructure comes with its own copy of database and application servers even you have installed or going to install any latest version of servers. It looks like Oracle doesn't integrate their products properly, the same story of Oracle CASE and database server.
Oracle Sales keep on saying they have got the best Application Server in the market. But I can't see the reason why the people will choose it. I saw a lot of messages from the forums saying the people tried to install the products on Linux for evaluation purpose. This will discourage people using the products if Oracle Support only provide solutions on the RedHat Advance Server.
I will try again with 9iAS 9.0.3 when I receive the package. Funny enough, I did ask people about their experiences on installation BEA Weblogic. It is smooth and only takes about half hour at all.
