64bit JVM for JRE1.6.0.27 crashes

I get this report below when my JVM crashes unexpectedly. Although I run on Win XP, I get the same outcome on Win 7 and Linux machines. Any help/pointers greatly appreciated.
Thanks very much.

When I run with -Xint flag, JVM doesnt crash but of course the performance hit is profoundChanging the execution path of an application can and often does change what impact a pointer bug has in code. So not very surprising that you got a different result.

    where is this limitation coming from. How to set the heap size to 6g.
    Thanks for your time

    You need to use the -d64 switch to request the 64-bit JVM. E.g.,$ java -showversion -Xmx6g HelloWorld
    Invalid maximum heap size: -Xmx6g
    The specified size exceeds the maximum representable size.
    Could not create the Java virtual machine.
    $ java -showversion -d64 -Xmx6g HelloWorld

    Hello world!

  • Limit to high-units for 64bit JVM?

    Hi all,
    I'm doing some testing on 3.4.1 with a 64bit JVM and a large storage node. I have the JVM starting up fine with a min/max memory footprint of 17GB. I have one distributed cache defined as such:
    <distributed-scheme>
    <scheme-name>UDMessagesDistributedScheme</scheme-name>
    <service-name>UDMessagesDistributedScheme</service-name>
    <autostart>true</autostart>
    <backing-map-scheme>
    <local-scheme>
    <scheme-name>UDMessagesDistributedInMemoryScheme</scheme-name>
    <!-- 17GB JVM - 800MB applciation -->
    <high-units>17414750208</high-units>
    <eviction-policy>HYBRID</eviction-policy>
    <unit-calculator>BINARY</unit-calculator>
    </local-scheme>
    </backing-map-scheme>
    <backup-count>0</backup-count>
    </distributed-scheme>
    Nothing complains, but when I browse the JMX GUI, the <high-units> reported is reduced to 234881024, and pruning happens as if this byte size (about 225MB) is being used.
    What I'm guessing is that <high-units> is represented as an Integer that has a max value of 2^31 - 1 that is smaller than my requested size. But if I'm using a 64bit JVM, the max should be 2^63 - 1, which is plenty big for my value.
    Does anyone have any experience with storage nodes of this size, or suggestions how to utilize this space?
    Thanks!

    Hi
    Yes this is something that will be fixed in the next release of Coherence. In version 3.5 we introduced unit factor to handle large values for the binary calculator. So the high-units can be paired with a unit-factor element.
    If you want to look more at the documentation http://coherence.oracle.com/display/COH35UG/local-scheme.
    The current plan is that the high-units will be a long (64 bit) in the next major release of Coherence (4.0).
    Thanks
    /Charlie

  • Weblogic Portal 10.3 Switch to 64bit JVM

    Hi
    I suspect this won't be possible but here's the situation:
    We have a weblogic portal 10.3 installation built using the 32bit linux installer. Therefore the admin server and two managed servers (each of which are on different boxes) run using a 32 bit JVM.
    Would it be possible to change the managed servers to a 64bit JVM and leave the admin server on 32bit?
    If so, how could this be done? By simply changing the parameters in the server start up page?
    Thanks

    You can alter the setDomainEnv script in which you set a JAVA_HOME for each particular server, for example,
    if [ "${SERVER_NAME}" = "" ] ; then
        SERVER_NAME="AdminServer"
        export SERVER_NAME
    fi
    if [ "${SERVER_NAME}" = "AdminServer" ] ; then
        JAVA_HOME="/home/oracle/aqualogic/jrockit_160_24_D1.1.2-4"
        export JAVA_HOME
    # The USER_MEM_ARGS variable is used to override the standard memory arguments passed to java.
        USER_MEM_ARGS="-Xms1024m -Xmx1024m -Xns256m -XXkeepAreaRatio:25 -XXgcThreads:2 -Xgcprio:pausetime -XpauseTarget:200ms"
        export USER_MEM_ARGS
    # If we want to use debugging we have to make sure the debug port is different for every server
        DEBUG_PORT="8453"
        export DEBUG_PORT
    fi
    if [ "${SERVER_NAME}" = "osb_server1" ] ; then
        JAVA_HOME="/home/oracle/aqualogic/jrrt-4.0.1-1.6.0"
        export JAVA_HOME
    # The USER_MEM_ARGS variable is used to override the standard memory arguments passed to java.
        USER_MEM_ARGS="-Xms1024m -Xmx1024m -Xns256m -XXkeepAreaRatio:25 -XXgcThreads:2 -Xgcprio:pausetime -XpauseTarget:200ms"

    I have an iPad 1 and after I got the latest update for keynote and Now  it crashes every time I try to open it

    Do you have iOS 5.1.1 on your original iPad? If not update the iOS.
    You might also try quitting the app and then reset the pad.
    Go to the Home screen and double click the Home button. That will reveal the row of recently used apps at the bottom of the screen. Tap and hold on the app in question until it wiggles and displays a minus sign. Tap the minus sign to actually quit the app. Then tap anywhere on the screen above that bottom row to return the screen to normal. Then reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider should one appear until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.
    Still no joy? Delete the Keynote app, reset the iPad and then reinstall Keynote. You will not have to pay for downloading it again.

  • I just downloaded the latest version of itunes for Windows and now itunes crashes every time i launch it

    I just downloaded the latest version of iTunes for Windows and now iTunes crashes everytime I launch it.  I have tried re-downloading and selecting Repair with no luck.  Any suggestions?
    thanks

    For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
    The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
    Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
    If you've already tried a complete uninstall and reinstall try opening iTunes in safe mode (hold down CTRL+SHIFT as you start iTunes) then going to Edit > Preferences > Store and turning off Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases. You may find iTunes will now start normally.

  • Windows Vista Update posts 64bit driver for Qosmio F30 32bit Vista

    Hello
    Today I've noticed that Windows Vista update is posting the wrong update for one of Qosmio F30 drivers.
    I have Windows Vista 32Bit but Windows Update post a 64bit version of the driver.
    see the screenshot [Here|http://imagefilehost.googlepages.com/f30Wrongupdate.jpg]
    Any idea?

    hmm... this is strange ?:|
    The Toshiba x64 ACPI compliant driver means definitely a 64bit version!!!
    I dont know why the Vista driver update notification reports an 64bit driver for a 32bit OS but usually the 64bit driver shouldn't be compatible with the 32bit OS.
    However, the case seems to be clear dont install it if the driver is not designed for your OS.

    After reformatting iPod to NTFS and restoring back with iTunes, the player works for two-three weeks and crashes afterward. It then requests to restore it through iTunes. When connected to iTunes, it sees it in the restore mode and also asks to restore the iPod. It happens over and over for the last months. What could be the problem?
    iPod Classic 80Gig.
    Thanks in advance.

    Dear planb77
    Thanks for a reply. iPod does not support ntfs - you're right. that means it will never work on that. While restoring ipod using iTunes, itunes reformats it no matter what filesystem is there. So the issue is not that. ipod is now on fat32 and it works for a certain period of time, but then crashes and asks to restore through itunes. Resetting/restarting does not help.

  • Linux: which toolkit is used in JVM for heavyweight components?

    Hi,
    which toolkit is used by the Linux-variant of the JVM for the heavyweight-components? GTK?
    Oxy

    java.awt.Toolkit is abstract. He means what implementation is used (motif-based, etc.). For example, sun.awt.motif.MToolkit.
    It might vary from one Linux variant to another (and from one JVM version to another), I'm not sure. But for any particular Linux system, you can run this program to find out:
    import java.awt.*;
    public class test {
       public static void main(String[] args) {
          System.out.println(Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().getClass());

  • Same JVM for multiple Frames in a web application

    Hi guys,
    I have a web application that loads an applet during login. Once the login is completed, the web application will display the available functions accessible with a menu on the left frame and the main display page on the right frame. Whenever any form action is perfomed on the right frame, the jvm with the login session seems to exit (java console closes) and the applet will be loaded to prompt the user to login again. The JRE installed on the Windows client is 1.6.0_14 from SUN.
    I'm guessing that the different frames are using different JVMs?
    Is there a way to use the same jvm for a web application with multiple frames? I want to prevent the case where the user will have to login again.
    Thanks for any advice!
    - Zen -

    I have sort of the same problem
    [Identical applets in the same JVM, next generation plugin issue|http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5396118]
    I have submitted a Request for enhancement to SUN to allow forced grouping of applets in the same JVM.
    Sort of the opposite of the "separate_jvm" Applet tag parameter.
    It seems there is currently no way to do this.
    [New Plugin command line args|https://jdk6.dev.java.net/plugin2/jnlp/#COMMAND_LINE_ARGS]
    When per-applet JVM command-line arguments are specified, it is likely that the new Java Plug-In will need to launch another JVM instance in order to satisfy them. In other words, it is unlikely that a preexisting JVM instance will have been started with the correct set of command-line arguments to satisfy the current applet's request. The rules for exactly when a new JVM instance is launched to start a given applet are deliberately left unspecified, as this functionality is brand new in the 6u10 release and may need to change in subsequent releases. Here is a rough set of guidelines for the sharing and creation of new JVM instances:
    * If the command-line arguments used to start a preexisting JVM instance are a superset of the requested arguments, the preexisting JVM instance will be used.
    * If a JVM instance is launched for the "default" set of command-line arguments (i.e., those specified in the Java Control Panel, with no per-applet arguments specified), then this JVM instance will never be used to launch any applet that has even one per-applet command-line argument.
    * -Xmx is handled specially: if a preexisting JVM instance was started with for example -Xmx256m, and a new applet requests -Xmx128m, then new applet will very likely be run in the preexisting JVM instance. In other words, -Xmx specifications are matched with a greater-than-or-equal test.
    There is no way to "name" a JVM instance used to launch a particular applet and "force" subsequent applets into that JVM instance.
    See the section on the separate_jvm parameter to isolate a particular applet in its own JVM instance, separate from all other applets.

    If anyone has any detailed info on why, please post a link; I'm curious.

  • For 2 wks get a crash report when I quit photoshop.  report sent whynothing fixed?

    for 2 weeks get a crash report everytime i quit photoshop.  crash report submitted everytime with details on when this happens yet nothing has been fixed.
    what is purpose of sending crash reports if they are ignored and problem continues?

    yet nothing has been fixed.
    Did you expect Adobe employees would come fix your computer?
    Boilerplate-text:
    Are Photoshop and OS fully updated?
    As with all unexplainable Photoshop-problems you might try trashing the prefs (after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved and making a note of the Preferences you’ve changed) by pressing command-alt-shift on starting the program or starting from a new user-account.
    System Maintenance (repairing permissions, purging PRAM, running cron-scripts, cleaning caches, etc.) might also be beneficial, Onyx has been recommended for such tasks.

    Weeding out bad fonts never seems to be a bad idea, either. (Validate your fonts in Font Book and remove the bad ones.)
    If 3rd party plug-ins are installed try disabling them to verify if one of those may be responsible for the problem.
    Does turning off OpenGL in the Performance Preferences and restarting Photoshop have any bearing on the issue?
    what is purpose of sending crash reports if they are ignored and problem continues?
    I suppose it helps Adobe keep track of the amount and nature of issues encountered by the users.
    These might then be addressed in a future update if the problem lies with the respective Adobe application (and it is not too complex) or if the problems lie with the OS or drivers the producers of those will hopefully be made aware of their bugs.
    And unless you provided your email-address Adobe employees would have little chance of getting back to you if it is a known and amendable problem.
