Oracle ADF Open source

Hi ,
Is Oracle ADF is open source framework ?

Not open source in the sense that you can just download, modify and share the ADF code.
However, the source code for ADF is available for all customers with a current support contract. You open a Service Request with Oracle support, fill in some paperwork (accepting that you can't publish it, among other things) and then Oracle Support makes the ADF source code availabel to you.

  • NEWS: Oracle to open-source TopLink in Eclipse

    TopLink Forum users,
Oracle has proposed the creation of the Eclipse Persistence Platform project in Eclipse to deliver a comprehensive persistence platform. Oracle will lead this open source project and will contribute the source and test cases of its successful Oracle TopLink product to provide a starting point for the project.
Oracle will continue to deliver its award winning Oracle TopLink product, offer support, and enhance its capabilities to meet the needs of customers. Oracle TopLink will be built on the Eclipse Persistence Platform and will extend it with advanced integration into the Oracle Application Server.
Read the Press Release and the FAQ for more information.
I thought it would be best to also announce it here on this forum so that any additional questions or concerns not addressed by the FAQ can be discussed.
    Doug

Does this mean that the Eclipse foundation will have
a say in the future roadmap of Oracle Toplink or will
Oracle continue to drive the roadmap ?The road map will be a developed in public as is done on all open source projects with input from the community. Typically the project team will come up with a road map that they put out for review and it's refined based on feedback. This is what we've been doing on the Eclipse Dali JPA Tools project.

  • Oracle ADF - Open Script functional testing - Error Identification scenarios

    Hi All,
We have been exploring OATS - Open script functional testing tool for ADF application regression testing.
We were able to record the transactions and play back those recordings, but we were not able to understand the scenarios where tool will detect as error/ issue.
Based on our understanding, Open script remembers as objects/Xpaths from screens and use them while playing back.
Could you please provide scenarios how tool identifies as errors..ex.component is removed or modified?
    Simple example:
    1) Open page A
    2) Click on image 1 on page A
    3) Click on image 2 on page A
    4) Click button to navigate to Page B.
In this scenario, when we play back without changing it works fine
but if we remove or comment  "image 2 on Page A " it's not throwing as error. it's continuing to next step.
commenting or removing actions/components is not considered as issue.
    Thanks for your suggestions

    Hello Bala
What is your Java version? JInitiator or Sun?
When exactly does this error occur?
    What is your OATS version?
Have you ran a Diagnose Tool (Help Menu in OpenScript)?
    Thx
    JB

  • ADF (View Object) with open source database

    Hi all,
Recently, I am evaluating JDeveloper 9.0.5.2 ADF with an open source database (Firebird).
    I follow the instruction to:
    1. Create an entity object
    2. Create a view object for the entity object in 1
    3. Create an application module for the view object in 2
    4. Right click on the application module and test -> all worked fine
    5. I created a jsp and drag the view (in 2) to it from Data Control Palette
    6. Test it in OC4J -> an error occurred (not because of jdbc config)
    JBO-27122: SQL error during statement preparation. Statement: SELECT * FROM (SELECT Department.DEPT_NO, Department.DEPARTMENT AS DEPARTMENT1, Department.HEAD_DEPT, Department.MNGR_NO, Department.BUDGET, Department.LOCATION, Department.PHONE_NO FROM DEPARTMENT Department) QRSLT ORDER BY DEPT_NO
GDS Exception. 335544569. Dynamic SQL Error SQL error code = -104 Token unknown - line 1, char 16 SELECT
To my knowledge, the error should be due to Firebird doesn't support the query syntax " select * (select col1, col2... from table) QRSLT where... order by... "
I am quite headache as this query is automatically generated by JDeveloper. I am figuring out whether I can change it. It seems that I have to play with the ViewObjectImpl class.
I do think ADF is an amazing technology. However, is it only so amazing with the Oracle technologies? Please correct me if I am wrong.
    Hons

    Dear Shay Shmeltzer,
Thank you for your reply. After hours of trying on Firebird, I still get the error:
    JBO-27122: SQL error during statement preparation. Statement: SELECT * FROM (SELECT Department.DEPT_NO, Department.DEPARTMENT AS DEPARTMENT1, Department.HEAD_DEPT, Department.MNGR_NO, Department.BUDGET, Department.LOCATION, Department.PHONE_NO FROM DEPARTMENT Department) QRSLT ORDER BY DEPT_NO
GDS Exception. 335544569. Dynamic SQL Error SQL error code = -104 Token unknown - line 1, char 16 SELECT
I then downloaded the MySQL 4.0 and install on my system to do the exact procedures. No error! Thing works fine! Oh man...
For the Firebird case, a strange thing to note is that the data table (I dragged) contains data, but the error message is on top of it.
Actually, I don't have a particular database preference but I do hope ADF can work equally for these open-source databases. I think the problem may also be contributed by Firebird. Hope that I can figure it out this week.
    Regards,
    Hons

  • Using open source ADF

    Hi,
does anyone know if the open source ADF can be used on a mysql database?
And can I create graphs with the open source version of ADF?
    Regards Roel

    Hi Roel,
Yes you can use MySQL with ADF Essentials.
But lets not confuse free for open source. ADF Essentials is free, but not open source. I'm int he middle of writing a comprehensive how-to blog article on this, but you can piece it all together with these links below:
1.) Download JDeveloper. I'm not sure if JDev 11.1.2.4 comes with ADF Essentials, but i know JDev 11.1.2.3 does. I used JDev 11.1.2.3 for my project.
2.) Configure JDeveloper to run MySQL: http://jdev11g.blogspot.com/2009/04/oracle-jdeveloper-11g-with-mysql.html\
    3.) Install/Configure Glassfish with ADF Essentials: https://blogs.oracle.com/shay/entry/deploying_oracle_adf_applications_to and http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E35521_01/admin.111230/e16179/ap_glassfish.htm
4.) Create a db connection to MySQL on JDev and make a small application - just use the normal ADF dev process to make some screens
5.) Create JDBC MySQL Database Connection on Glassfish: http://mariosgaee.blogspot.com/2010/07/configure-mysql-connection-pool-in.html
6.) Use Shay's blog in step 3 to deploy the application to glassfish
    7.) and Test!
    Thanks,
    Gavin

  • Graphs with ADF Essentials 12.1.2.0 deployed on Glassfish 3.1.2 Open Source not displaying

    Hi,
I have three simple Bar Graphs which developed using JDeveloper 12c. When I deployed in Glassfish Server 3.1.2 open source edition with ADF essentials 12.1.2.0 they are not displayed. Other data bound pages are working fine. Now if I deploy them in the integrated weblogic server then they are correctly displayed.
As per the oracle documentation DVT components are included in ADF Essentials.
Can someone please help me if I am missing anything?

    Jim is right.
There is no way of converting/upgrading a VI to the newer version of LabVIEW without its block diagram. Below are a couple of KBs that discuss this issue:

  • ADF Faces open sourced

    Hi everybody,
There are a lot a news on the Internet related to the Oracle donation of ADF Faces to Apache/My Faces. I was wondering if someone there could give us some precisions such as the ADF Faces (Cherokee?) availability (as an open source library) since it is a great news :)
    Thanks,
    Fabrice.

    Fabrice,
basically the donated HTML components are work in progress and available in the Apache incubator website from where they will be made available later to MyFaces.

  • DBAShell - New Open Source Project for Oracle DBA's

I'd like to have this project included in the Open Source Oracle tools list at: http://www.oracle.com/technology/community/opensource_projects.html
I’'ve been an Oracle DBA for quite some time (since 7.0.13) and a developer for many years. One of the things I'’ve always wished for was an easier way to set up environment variables for different Oracle Home’s and a way to provide passwords to scripts without embedding them in plain-view.
About 3 years ago, I started a set of functions and scripts at my company that did exactly just that and provided many more functions for things like checking database status, running scripts quietly unless errors are detected, running actions in parallel (like fast shutdowns at once, or multiple analyzes), restarting databases in a guaranteed fashion, aliases to common folder locations, etc..
About a month ago, after putting all this time and effort into these scripts and using them in production all this time, I realized I wanted more out of the scripts like support for other databases and thought that it would be best if I gave it new life as an Open Source project.
So that is how http://sourceforge.net/projects/dbashell/ was started. Now it’s in a second release (DBAShell 0.85) that is more modular and would allow other people to easily add support for other OS’s, other Shells, and other Databases.
Here is a description of the project from the latest news item:
DBAShell is a project based around Shell functions and scripts designed to make it easy for DBA's to use Databases in a command line environment. Currently supported is Oracle with ksh and bash on AIX, Solaris, Linux. The code base itself is 3 years old and has been in use in Production environments all of that time.
    Features include:
    * Automatic setting of all environment variables based on SID requested.
    * Manage PATH's and other path like variables for each ORACLE_HOME needed.
    * Run scripts with stored passwords (no more hard-coding of passwords!!)
    * Automatically set SID based on Script location (makes it easier to share scripts between SID's)
    * manage temporary script output and check for oracle errors in output
    * check database status and versions from scripts
    * stop/start databases in parallel (faster startup)
    * compile all database objects
    * analyze objects in parallel (Faster analyzes)
    * set aliases and variables for common SID areas, etc..
    * many helpful commands for common Oracle tasks
Over a thousand people have already downloaded the prior release and more are downloading every hour.
I'm seeking feedback from anybody that would be willing to take a look at the project, trying it out, give me any feedback you have on it, and perhaps even direct me to where I could best promote this project.
I wrote a tutorial that shows at a glance some of the more useful features of DBAShell:
    http://sourceforge.net/docman/display_doc.php?docid=34041&group_id=170224
    Main site:
    http://sourceforge.net/projects/dbashell/
    Documentation: http://sourceforge.net/docman/display_doc.php?docid=33704&group_id=170224
    Download:
    http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/dbashell/dbashell-0.85.tar.gz?download

Always glad to have people thinking about the poor DBA's. Usually, the developers get most of the attention in open source.

  • How to get full source code for Oracle ADF?

    Hi,
I 'm referring to the following URL http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/html/B25947_01/intro003.htm and it has mentioned that full source for Oracle ADF is available :
"Full source for Oracle ADF is available to supported customers through Oracle Worldwide Support. The full source code for the framework can be an important tool to assisting you in diagnosing problems and in correctly extending the base framework functionality for your needs."
Does anyone know how to obtain such information from Oracle support? Is this from metalink

One possible snag in the process is that you will have some legal paperwork to sign. Depending on your company's policies, this could pose a problem.

  • Is there any product that is same as oracle coherence but is open source?

I donot know if it is suitable to post this question here, but I really want to know it, so please help me~
Is there any product that has same function as oracle coherence but is open source?

You may have a look at for instance JBoss Cache. It does however (as far as I know) lack Coherence most useful (and powerful) caching architectures (i.e. "partitioned" and "near" caches). Nor do I belive you should expect the same level of stability or proven track record for use in demanding applications as coherence has.
This said I think it can be a perfectly useful product for some applications were you don't need the most advanced features and don't have the budget for Coherence or some other commercial product - it is after all a lot better than writing your own project specific caching solution...

  • New Project for Oracle Open Source Projects Page

Another SQL*Plus clone but this one is written in pure java, feel free to add it to the Oracle Open Source Projects page:
SQL*More is a tool to execute commands against SQL databases in the same vein as SQL*Plus for Oracle. Key features are platform independence, database independence, a self-contained networking stack, a terminal friendly CLI implementation, and macro-like commands.
    Thanks,
    Marc

Happy to, but we'll need your project URL.
