Oracle AS 10.1.3.3 - why is XML disabled in the Oracle built PHP version?
I have just upgraded Oracle AS version 10.1.3.0.0 to 10.1.3.3. This includes an upgrade of PHP from 4.3.3 to 5.1.2.
Looking at the phpinfo() output I notice that pretty much all XML functionality is disabled:-
disable-libxml' 'disable-dom' '--disable-simplexml' '--disable-xml' '--disable-xmlreader' '--disable-xmlwriter'
Why is this the case?
I also notice that Pear is disabled. Very very disappointing.
I noticed this a week or so ago. Perhaps you should post it again on the Oracle AS forum, they probably know more about their product?

Why is OK disabled in the debugger's Modify Value dialog?
Hi,
For some reason OK disabled in the debugger's Modify Value dialog. Nothing that I have seen so far explains why this would happen. The variable stores an oracle.jbo.domain.Date, and the ADF source library was imported into the project.
Ideas?
JamesHi Timo,
You mentioned "tore" twice in your post, but I do know what that is. So, are you saying that if int or String was the type it would behave differently?

Why can't I use the CF9 built in webserver in production ???
I'm wondering why it's not preferred not to use the built in CF9 webserver in production?
ThanksBecause it lacks many features and optimizatoions other webservers have. Multiple websites using host headers, configurable logging, configurable caching through HTTP headers etc.

On opening google I get the message:"WARNING! Your Flash Player may be out of date. Please update to continue" - on clicking ok I am diverted to Flash Player Pro download site?? Is this a Adobe product? And why even though i have the latest flash player version I repeatedly get the message?
This is not a message that Adobe is providing, and I recommend that you not click on the link. It sounds as though you might have malware on your computer.

Why the oracle XML parser "parses" the DTD comments?
Hi all,
I always use the header
<?xml version = '1.0' encoding='ISO-8859-1' ?>
to be able to use foreign characters in the XML documents.
The oracle xml parser handles this correctly.
My problem is, when I write comments inside the DTD, the
parser reports "Invalid UTF8 encoding".
Why the parser "parse" the comments? (protected by <!-- and -->)
How do I say that the DTD encoding is different from UTF, like
ISO-8859-1?
Example of a correct DTD and corresponding XML, reporting
problems, related to the 2nd comment in the DTD specification,
written with ISO-8859-1 characters.
The DTD:
<!-- valid.dtd -->
<!ELEMENT valid ( B, C ) >
<!-- valid represents the concept "Identificagco" -->
<!ELEMENT B (#PCDATA) >
<!ELEMENT C (#PCDATA) >
The XML:
<?xml version = '1.0' encoding='ISO-8859-1' ?>
<!DOCTYPE valid SYSTEM 'valid.dtd'>
<valid>
<B>How are you, Conceigco</B>
<C>I'm fine, thank you.</C>
</valid>
The parser output:
[jgr@frontera test-dtd]$ java oracle.xml.parser.v2.oraxml -v
valid.xml
Error while parsing input sourcevalid.xml(Invalid UTF8 encoding.)
Thank you for any help.
Jorge Gustavo RochaI was wrong in saying that the attributes are not added to the element. My main aim is to add a array of elements to the root node.
Is there a efficient manner in adding the elements , rather than adding them individually with the help of appendChild method.
Thanks in advance.

Oracle XE Western version not working on Windows XP pro
I have noticed that production version of the Oracle XE Western version does not work properly. The beta version created the database properly, the production version does not. I tried to install it on a Windows XP Pro version.

There are a couple of things to consider here
Why is this install going into c:\oracle\xeprod ? If should be going into C:\oraclexe. Did you do something to change the default install infrastructure ?
Secondly - sometimes we see this unable to open file error message if some other process is reading the file at the same time as the installer is trying to install it. Anti virus software and Google desktop have been culprits to date. -
Hi experts,
Currently in our environment we are having Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.5.0 - 64bit DB which is replicated via oracle golden gate version 11.1.1.1.2. As per the application team requirement we need to migrate this database to 12C.
Can any one help me on the below queries
Does the oracle golden gate version 11.1.1.1.2 support oracle 12c database ?
Are there any syntax changes in oracle goldengate versions which needs to be taken care in extract or replicat parameter files ?
Thanks,
Mushraff ShaikHi,
>>Does the oracle golden gate version 11.1.1.1.2 support oracle 12c database ?
Why do you think it will not support 12c database ?
From a Golden Gate perspective you need to create schema and use that. As you are moving to 12c database, ideally you should think of upgrading Golden Gate 11.1 to 12c so you can use new feature such as Multi Threaded replicate etc..

In Trouble with the Oracle JDBC Driver version - 10.1.0.5.0
Hi !
Without any problems i'm using the Oracle JDBC Driver version - 10.1.0.3.0 to access to the
Oracle database (Oracle Database 10g Release 10.2.0.1.0 - 64bit Production).
But exchanging the JDBC Driver 10.1.0.3.0 to 10.1.0.5.0 brings up the following problem:
the statement
con.prepareStatement(sql, resultSetType, resultSetConcurrency, resultSetHoldability)
(with parameters resultSetType = 1003, resultSetConcurrency = 1007, resultSetHoldability= 1)
returns null !
while using the Oracle JDBC Driver version - 10.1.0.3.0 the statement (with same parameters)
returns a correct PreparedStatement.
Every hint or idea is welcome.
Best regards,
ClausDuplicate post:
In Trouble with the Oracle JDBC Driver version - 10.1.0.5.0
Claus,
Pardon me if I am stating the obvious, but why don't you use the 10.2 JDBC driver with your 10.2 database? The driver is part of the database distribution. Otherwise, you can download the driver from the OTN Web site.
Good Luck,
Avi. -
I can't find any true tangible benefits to using XML
to transfer data from legacy systems, in comparison to say, using an external file and loading into existing
schema objects, which we do use.
We have 4-6 internal systems, and many many external systems, that currently use text or DB links to transfer data around, and of course the manager hears the catch-phrase-of-the-day XML, all time time and wants us to use it. We do a lot of complicated reading of the files, i.e. headers and multiple layers of detail (header & detail lines can have infinite detail lines)
Can somebody offer up why use XML? (white pages, something I can get proof with) or why not to use it.
To me, completly different layer of technology, everybody has a "standard", nobody has the same standard.
More storage in the database (being a DBA I don't like this), and seems to need its own full time employee to manage it (the IT director won't like that).SO... you STILL have to get what the file looks like... can't be read from inside the file (like a decent CSV), hasn't somebody realized that keep layout seperate from the data during outside transfers is stupid?
I understand the tags etc, I guess because disk is free, and networks are faster, lets clog them up with useless info <the tags>. I have loaded/extracted XML from the database (what a PITA that is) before I asked this question.
My question is, can somebody please point me in a direction of the benefits of using XML to transfer data between systems.
Why use XML? Why is XML better than a CSV (or formatted text file)????
What benefits does it have over those file types??
A great list of pro/cons would be nice... everything on oracle web sites, and google say all basically say the same thing... "use it because it's new and neat"
Why should we spend hundreds of man hours reinventing the wheel?
What tangible benefits are there to using it?
Might be the wrong forum, if so, please point me in the right direction. -
Oracle 8i Lite Version : 4.0
Hi,
Could anyone answer this for me, Please.
I have oracle 8i lite Version 4.0 installed on a Windows NT machine. I do a sqlplus pbs/pbs odbc:polite (using odbc) to connect to sqlplus. At this sametime .. I connect from a different machine (WINNT) to this same oracle 8i lite (Shared Directory) using ODBC. Now, If I do some updates on Machine A and Commit it ... why are the changes not visible in Machine B (sqlplus). I have to exit out and come back in Machine B to see the changes everytime. I have done odbinfo
-pagelog polite polite. (So that it doesn't create any .plg file and write Directly to ODB file). Please throw some light on this. Is Oracle lite not intended for this !?.
Thanks

Why other xml parsers won' work?
i hav a reqm't of loading java classes into the d'base and one of those classes uses xslt processor to convert a xml to html the xsl is embedded as a string in the java code itself, i create a jar file with apache xalan parser and load it into d'base but at runtime i'm getting
"String Index out of Bounds exception"
so i changed the parser to oracle xsl parser now it works fine why is it so?
our entire development team uses the xalan parser for various purposes so i can' use oracle parser for this purpose alone as it makes the system inconsistent.
will anyone from oracle come forward to provide a solution.
thanksThis is not a Xalan issue, but a Xerces issue. When Xerces is installed inside Oracle8i, it runs into a bug in the VM related to System.arrayCopy() for multi-dimensional arrays of scalars.
The bug has been fixed in 8.1.7, so it should work fine there.
I guess our XML components don't ever do array copies of multi-dimensional arrays, so they don't run into the bug. -
Why Coherence mandates to name the file as hibernate.cfg.xml ???
Wondering Why Coherence mandates to name the file as hibernate.cfg.xml , otherwise it wouldn't work
We use Spring 2.5, Hibernate 3.2, Coherence 3.5
• Currently we have created hibernate.cfg.xml to make coherence work whereas we would like to leverage existing spring configuration file
• We wrote separate DAO’s i.e. xxxCoherenceDAO in addition to exsisting DAO’s. We would like to inject NamedCache into **CoherenceDAO
• How to leverage Spring to start the CacheFactory i.e. we would like to avoid the following code in our XXXCoherenceDAO's
NameCache customerCache = CacheFactory.getCache(com.xx.Customer.class.getName());Take a look at the [JavaDoc for HibernateCacheLoader|http://download.oracle.com/otn_hosted_doc/coherence/352/com/tangosol/coherence/hibernate/HibernateCacheLoader.html]. It has several constructors that allow you to either provide the name of the Hibernate configuration or provide a SessionFactory created externally.
Thanks,

Why I cann't see the navigator pane in directory manager?
Why I cann't see the navigator pane (left side of the double window interface according to 'oracle internet directory administrator's guide') while I login to directory manager?
The other confusing question is why the directory information still exists after I uninstalled, deleted all related files to Oracle products, and re-installed them?
Thank any help.Hi,
make sure JDeveloper ios closed and the directory structure or their contained file aren't used elsewhere.

When / why use XML to store data instead of database table ?
Hi All,
I still not use XML much in applications and don't know much about its utilization.
I read here and there about storing data as XML instead of into database tables.
- could any body please tell me when / why use XML to store data instead of database table ?
e.g : store inventory per warehouse in XML format. ?
- What is the other cases or reasons of extracting database records into XML or vice versa ?
- is there any good pdf on this ?
Thank you for your help,
xtantoIt depends entirely what you want to accomplish with the 'XML in the database'. There are basically 3 independent methods: As CLOB, as XMLType views or as native XMLType 'columns'
Each method has advantages and disadvantages, especially in the performance vs purpose tradeoff.
The Oracled Press book "Oracle Database 10g XML & SQL Design, Build, & Manage XML Applications in Java, C, C++, & PL/SQL" is highly recommended for anyone interested in Oracle and XML. http://books.mcgraw-hill.com/getbook.php?isbn=0072229527&template=oraclepress
