Oracle cache - 10g updating...
Hi all,
I have setup a cache using TimesTen in front of an Oracle 10g instance.
I am caching a number of tables where I would like to allow updates/inserts within TimesTen to be propogated back to 10g.
The reason being I would only like to hold a subset of the cached table in TimesTen (and keep on pruning it on a daily basis by date for instance - due to memory constraints) I of course dont want these deletes to be pushed to the cache but I do want the updates and inserts to be pushed.
Is there a way of doing this?
Thanks,
Dan
Yes, there are several ways to do this.
1. If you are using TimesTen 7.0 or later then you could configure automatic aging (timestamp or LRU based). See the SQL Guide for details. When aging removes a row in TimesTen the 'delete' is not propagated to Oracle.
2. If you are using AWT or SWT cache groups, you or the application (or a cron script etc.) can execute UNLOAD CACHE GROUP cgname WHERE ...; Any rows matching the WHERE clause will be removed from TimesTen but again the 'deletes' will not be propagated to Oracle. Contracts this with doing DELETE FROm cgtable WHERE ...; in which case the deletes are propagated to Oracle.
3. If you have a USERMANAGED cache group and are doing manual propagation to Oracle using FLUSH CACHE GROUP then this anyway does not propagate deletes.

Difference in select for update of - in Oracle Database 10g and 11g
Hi, I found out that Oracle Database 10g and 11g treat the following PL/SQL block differently (I am using scott schema for convenience):
DECLARE
v_ename bonus.ename%TYPE;
BEGIN
SELECT b.ename
INTO v_ename
FROM bonus b
JOIN emp e ON b.ename = e.ename
JOIN dept d ON d.deptno = e.deptno
WHERE b.ename = 'Scott'
FOR UPDATE OF b.ename;
END;
/While in 10g (10.2) this code ends successfully (well NO_DATA_FOUND exception is raised but that is expected), in 11g (11.2) it raises exception "column ambiguously defined". And that is definitely not expected. It seems like it does not take into account table alias because I found out that when I change the column in FOR UPDATE OF e.empno (also does not work) to e.mgr (which is unique) it starts working. So is this some error in 11g? Any thoughts?

It seems that my question was answered here - http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2736426/difference-in-select-for-update-of-in-oracle-database-10g-and-11gThe behaviour seems like it really is a bug and can be avoided using non-ANSI syntax. (It makes me wonder why Oracle maintains two query languages while dumb me thinks that this is just a preprocessor matter and query engine could be the same).

Hi,
I am not sure if this is the correct place for this question but its where I have seen some other discussions on drivers.
I have Oracle Express 10g installed on my pc, and some work servers and am getting some errors about memory issues and came across this message and decided to try the solution here too - Re: Attempted to read or write protected memory
I have the 10.2.0.1 driver on the clients I am running and the app has 10.2.0.4 (I think) and so decided that updating the clients drivers might solve the problems as described in that thread.
I have downloaded the instant client basic and odbc for windows x32 but am unsure what I need to do next as I have Oracle Express installed. I couldnt find one specifically for Express 10g.
Do I have the correct drivers downloaded and how do I install them into odbc ?
Many thanks, George.My understanding is that to be a MetaLink subscriber you have to be an Oracle customer or subscribe for Oracle support services. Since Oracle is only one of the many databases we support, and because our sole objective with Oracle is compatibility testing, it's unlikely that we will become subscribers unless it's essentially free.
Oracle is tangential (not core) to our own offerings, so we don't have a pressing need for support. Is there some avenue for people in our shoes? -
Oracle Critical Patch Update for Oracle Database 10g Release 10.2.0.3.0
Hi,
The [ Oracle Critical Patch Update for April 2012 was released on April 17th, 2012|http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/topics/security/cpuapr2012-366314.html] , wherein it was stated that below list versions will get affected.
Oracle Database 10g Release 2, versions 10.2.0.3, 10.2.0.4, 10.2.0.5
Currently I am using
BANNER
Oracle Database 10g Release 10.2.0.3.0 - 64bit Production
Can anyone tell me, difference between
Oracle Database 10g Release 2, versions 10.2.0.3 with Oracle Database 10g Release 10.2.0.3.0
I am much concerned whether to apply patch for 10.2.0.3.0, wherein the affected version is Oracle Database 10g Release 2, versions 10.2.0.3
Thanks,

Oracle JInitiator: Version 1.3.1.22Oracle Jinitiator is not compatible with IE 7/8, you have to use the Sun JRE 1.6.0._16 or higher instead. Take a look at section *2.2 Oracle Forms Applications on Client Platforms* in the Oracle Application Server 10g (10.1.2) Certification Matrix.
After installing the Sun JRE 1.6.0, you will need to modify the %DEVSUITE_HOME%\forms\server\formsweb.cfg to set the correct JRE version information. Make the following changes:

HP-UX: Oracle AS 10g Reports server hangs
I have installed Oracle AS 10g Forms and reports services on HP-UX. Initially Forms and reports were working fine. Presently forms are also working fine.
However reports started giving problem REP-56055: Exceed max connections allowed then changed the value of maxconnects from 20 to 100.
Presently reports server gets hang. If I try to run test report from the URL:
http://venus.marineterminals.com:7780/reports/rwservlet?server=rep_venus_OracleAS_FormsReports+destype=cache+desformat=html+report=test.rdf
I am getting the following error message "No Response from Application Web Server " Can anybody please help me to rectify this issue.Hello,
Most of the times, the error REP-56055: Exceed max connections allowed is returned because some reports exections are hanging and keep the connection.
Have you tried to use the Reports engine attribute "engineResponseTimeOut" in order to kill automatically the reports execution that are hanging ?
http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14099_17/bi.1012/b14048/pbr_conf.htm
Of course, the real cause of the problem should be investigated ...

AUDIT IN Oracle Database 10g Express
I configured Oracle Database 10g Express R2 for auditing,
ALTER SYSTEM SET audit_trail=db SCOPE=SPFILE;
AUDIT SELECT TABLE, UPDATE TABLE;
but...in dba_audit_trail ,
ACTION_NAME is always SESSION REC
but...i think its possible to record specific action like select,update..etc
thanxYes, regular auditing features are available at Oracle XE. Once you have configured your audit trail, just issue the audit command to start auditing focused areas.

Details on TAF support in Oracle AS 10g
Hi experts,
I'm currently writing a Master's Thesis on High Availability of Applications based on Suns JEE platform.
With Oracle being one of the big players in this market I'm going to investigate the features of the Oracle product stack and compare it with other solutions including opensource.
At the moment I'm looking for details on TAF-support in Oracle AS 10g. Lets assume one has installed the latest release of the Oracle 10g database in a RAC configuration on two or more physical nodes to store the applications data. Lets further assume one has set up the latest release of the Oracle AS 10g on different hosts building an AS farm with clustered OC4J-instances. Now one would like to connect a JEE application running within these OC4J-instances to the RAC database.
Therefore one can configure an OC4J datasource to use a service definition supporting network failover and transparent application failover (TAF) specified in the tnsnames.ora on the AS hosts or directly describe the service in the data-sources.xml. To my knowledge only datasources configured to use the OCI client can be used with TAF. Everything right so far?
Now the interesting part. The best what TAF can do is automatically reconnect to the next known database node if its current node is not reachable or fails, and continue processing an open cursor for select so that the application can continue to use its current connection.
If the application is running a database transaction it can only be rolled back and rerun after failover.
In a good old plain Java application one had to implement the OracleOCIFailover interface and register a callback with the db connection in order to receive failover events. Therefore you need to process the query in a different thread.
In a JEE server only the container should be responsible for creating threads, or? How does the Oracle AS support TAF? How can a user application get notice of a failover and react appropriately. Is the behaviour always the same no matter one decides to implement the data access via simple DAOs or entity beans (CMP/BMP)? I assume it is safe to use a connection pool and container will take care of the necessary cleanup jobs, right? Will the complete connection pool be reconstructed or only connections to the failed node?
Does the application server internally use these OCI callbacks and wrap them up into special Exceptions? Is there anything an application programmer has to do in order to make his data access code ready for TAF, especially in case of failover while the db is processing transactional code?
Any insights and/or code snippets would be greatly appreciated!
Ah, one last question. From a HA perspective is it generally a bad idea to put application logic into the database (use CDM RuleFrame and so on) as there is no support in preserving package states or do you think this makes no difference as one has always to repeat everything since the last commit point no matter in which tier the code resides?
During the next days Im going to set up the above environment for testing. A 10.0.2.1 RAC on RHE4 is already up and running fine. AS 10.1.3.0.0 on RHE4 is following today or tomorrow.
Many thanks for all answers!
Regards,
EricHi,
well, I thought I could dig into the OC4J documentation before installing the server. After reading the OC4J Service Guide for 10.1.2 and 10.1.3 I'm a little bit confused.
First I read the 10.1.2 Service Guide and almost everything seemed to be clear. I found a lot of answers to the questions above. I'd like to sum them up. Please correct me if I got something wrong!
- TAF only works on top of OCI driver
- TAF can be used with connection pooling
- OC4J takes care of connection pool cleanup (OC4J and OCI Pool)
These two pools are mentioned. It's not clear to me how they work together. Do one of you know some source where I can get more information about this?
- after a failover all connections in the pool are checked by OC4J and only alive ones will survive
- in case of a failover TAF issues an exception
- the application has to catch this exception and acknowledge with a rollback, after that the transaction can be restarted (this seems to be the responsibility of the applications code, oc4j will not replay something automatically; If I got it right, CMP entity beans will be an exception to this rule - there OC4J will proceed transparently...)
- the application can use OCI callbacks to customize the failover behavior (well I would like to see some source code example here, as I can't imagine how this could look like)
After that I read the 10.1.3 service guide. The section about datasources in conjunction with HA is much shorter. Besides TAF new? mechanism is introduced, namely Fast Connection Failover (FCF). There is not much information about it but references to the JDBC Guide, because FCF is a feature of the implicit JDBC connection cache. Where cache seems to be just another word for pool.
By the way, the example on p. 4-36 looks wrong at first glance. Enabling FCF and setting:
<property name="fastConnectionFailoverEnabled" value="false"/> ???
Seems to be a typo in the docu, or?
I got the impression, that the text is written as if FCF being TAF's successor, without explicitly saying this. Is this right?
So I proceeded reading the JDBC Developer Guide to lean more about FCF. Here is what I learned:
- since 10g available
- FCF is driver independend (you can also use the thin driver)
- prerequisites are implicit connection cache (pool) enabled, ONS must be configured
- in case of a failover the transcation will be rolled back automatically (not by the application); whereas using TAF you have to use a rollback to acknowledge the error
- only one exception ORA-17008 to catch
- application has to obtain a new connection from the cache (pool), where as using TAF the old connection object can be used, and resend the transaction (same as with TAF)
So when to use what? The comparison on p. 27-8 was not very helpful to find an answer to this question.
On p. 28-1 one can read that TAF does not work with the OCI Connection Pool. That's seems to be contradictory to the statement in Service Guide of 10.1.2 that OC4J takes care of both pools (OC4J and OCI). Or has something changed in 10.1.3 in that regard? May be this is because of the changes in Cache or Pool Management?
What is the advantage of using TAF within OC4J in 10g, if there is any?
What about select statements with FCF? You can only read about transactions. I'd assume the application would get the same exception executing a query (ORA-17008) as executing a transaction, right? So TAF should have the advantage of transparently proceeding selects after a failover. Am I right?
I'd love to see more examples and comparisons of TAF and FCF.

OIM 9.1.0 install connector for "Oracle Database 10g"
Hello,
Is anybody here who succeeded to install the connector for Oracle Database 10g into OIM 9.1.0?
If yes please give me a hint
Have a nice day!Thanks guys for the quick responses.
But I have tried both the options for putting the jar in Third Party and also by uploading using the OOTB utility UploadJar.sh.
But it is giving the same error.
I have tired rebouncing the server and also Purge cached, but no success.
Just to mention again, I have tried with all the last 3 postgres JDBC4 driver available on the site (u mentioned).
So, any other clue?
Thanks in advance. -
Hi all,
We are having database server - oracle 10g enterprise edition R2,
forms - Oracle forms 10G -Version 10.1.2.0.2 on windows 2000 professional.
We have created a table which has a column of type "timestamp",the following is the structure.
CREATE TABLE "STOCK_AREA_MASTER"
( "STOCK_AREA_CODE" NCHAR(5) NOT NULL ENABLE,
"STOCK_AREA_DESC" NVARCHAR2(40) NOT NULL ENABLE,
"RECORD_STATUS" CHAR(1) DEFAULT 'A',
"USER_ID" NVARCHAR2(20) DEFAULT USER,
"TIMESTAMP" TIMESTAMP (6) DEFAULT CURRENT_TIMESTAMP)
[\code]
We tried to invoke this table(stock_area_master) using database block wizard in forms 10g,we were expecting to see the columns in this table,but we got the following error
FRM -10095 - Assertion failed
on seeing the forms help for the error FRM-10095,We are getting the following message
FRM-10095: Assertion failed in %s, at %s:%d. Cause: An internal inconsistency was detected. Action: Contact an Oracle support representative, and proceed with caution
We have the following concerns.
1.) is it possible to have datatype "timestamp" in forms 10g,our researches show that we can manipulate using datatime datatype in forms,our requirement is have to precision of 6 digits(millisecond - format - dd/mm/rr hh24:mi:ss:ssss),we are able query and view precision to the tune dd/mm/rr hh24:mi:ss:ssss,but we are unable to insert/update to this precision.
We would appreciate if some one could throw some light on the above.
Thanks in advance
Regards
MohanHi Mohan,
Hm. Strange.
I have reproduced the problem in my environment.
I have also found, that building the block manually, seems to work, as long as you define the item with datatype Char in Form Builder. Inserts and updates using a value like "22-AUG-06 11:10:11,647354 AM" worked fine for the timestamp item.
You may want to enforce some dateformat. I don't know whether that will work.
Good Luck!

(WARNING: Improperly partitioning a disk is one of the surest and fastest ways to wipe out everything on your hard disk. If you are unsure how to proceed, stop and get help, or you will risk losing data!)
This article uses the following partitioning scheme, with ext3 for each filesystem:
The 9GB disk on the first controller (/dev/sda) will hold all Linux and Oracle software and contains the following partitions:
- 100MB /boot partition
-1,500MB swap partitionâSet this to at least twice the amount of RAM in the system but to no more than 2GB (32-bit systems do not support swap files larger than 2GB). If you need more than 2GB of swap space, create multiple swap partitions.
-7,150MB root partitionâ This partition will be used for everything, including /usr, /tmp, /var, /opt, /home, and more. This was done purely to simplify installation for the purposes of this guide. A more robust partitioning scheme would separate these directories onto separate filesystems.
9. Boot Loader Configuration
o Accept the default.
10. Network Configuration
o It is usually best to configure database servers with a static IP address. To do so, click on Edit.
o A pop-up window appears. Uncheck the Configure using DHCP box, and enter the IP Address and Netmask for the server. Be sure that Activate on boot is checked, and click on OK.
o In the Hostname box, select manually and enter the hostname.
o In the Miscellaneous Settings box, enter the remaining network settings.
11. Firewall Configuration
o For the purposes of this walk-through, no firewall is configured. Select No firewall.
12. Additional Language Support
o Accept the default.
13. Time Zone Selection
o Choose the time settings that are appropriate for your area. Setting the system clock to UTC is usually a good practice for servers. To do so, click on System clock uses UTC.
14. Set Root Password
o Enter a password for root, and enter it again to confirm.
15. Package Group Selection

Libpng10-1.0.13-8.i386.rpm
ORBit-0.5.17-10.4.i386.rpm
Install patch 3006854
Copy libcwait.so file from /etc to /lib
And make links
mv /usr/bin/gcc /usr/bin/gcc323
mv /usr/bin/g++ /usr/bin/g++323
ln âsf /usr/bin/gcc296 /usr/bin/gcc
ln âsf /usr/bin/g++296 /usr/bin/g++
Kernel Settings as per requirement of ORACLE AS 10g in /etc/sysctl.conf
kernel.shmall = 2097152
kernel.shmmax = 2147483648
kernel.shmmni = 4096
kernel.sem = 256 65000 200 256
fs.file-max = 131072
net.ipv4.ip_local_port_range = 1024 65000
kernel.msgmnb=65556
kernel.msgmni=4096
Then restart the computer
Login with Oracle user
now path setting as
I have done this by make two environment files
Infra.env
TMP=/tmp
Export TMP
TMPDIR=$TMP
Export TMPDIR
ORACLE_BASE=/oracle
Export ORACLE_BASE
ORACLE_HOME=$ORACLE_BASE/appsrv/infra
Export ORACLE_HOME
ORACLE_SID=asdb (if u will not define SID here then while starting database u will face an error ORA-07217:sltn:environment variable cannot be evaluated)
Export ORACLE_SID
PATH=/usr/bin:/usr/sbin
Export PATH
PATH=$PATH:$ORACLE_HOME/bin (u can include command paths like dcm as u needed)
Export PATH
LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4.19
Export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL
Copy this file with name as.env and change ORACLE_HOME from infra to as.
. ./infra.env
DISPLAY=localhost:0.0; export DISPLAY
Xhost +
Now u can check that DISPLAY is ok by run the command xclock if clock appears then ok else set DISPLAY with root user ok
Start installation from CD 1 .
. ./runInstaller
Press Y (There is no need to disturb, upgrade, degrade any package)
Press Y
Installation will start while installing and reaches at ~50% then go to /oracle/appsrv/infra/bin open relink file and change at line # 50 i.e. remove 2 brackets
] âo [ and at line # 102 make= /usr/ccs/bin/make to /usr/bin/make remove ccs and save the file
There will no error in installation in infrastructure
Same as done with relink file in Middle tier installation. I would like to turn ur attention for a serious problem no one asked about it. Here u have seen that a script make 3 file in /usr/local/bin for infrastructure and middle tier when u finished infrastructureâs installation plz rename that 3 files as
Mv coredb coredb-infra
Mv dbhome dbhome-infra
Mv ora ⦠oraâ¦-infra
If u overwrite that files by creating same name of middle tier files no problem.
When problem comes?
AS will work fine but when u have to install patches on AS then problem comes if u have overwrite that files. So plz rename them before creation of same files of middle tier. Thanx

[email protected]Hi,
I tried uname -a and it returns the following:

We have the following problems:
1. I am having a box running RHEL 3.0 (got from centos.org). I have Oracle 10g running ok. Now I tried to install ASMLIB downloaded from technet. The files are:

When I tried to install these files, I got the following error:

Also when I try to run /etc/init.d/oracleasm , I get the same error
Checking for Red Hat enterprise kernel: [FAILED]
2. We created 4 raw partitions /dev/raw/raw1 - 4 using raw command.
[root@rcdell root]# ls -l /dev/raw/raw[1,2,3,4]

crw-rw---- 1 oracle dba 162, 4 Sep 9 11:05 /dev/raw/raw4
then tried this:
SYS at +ASM on 29-DEC-04 >create diskgroup dg1 normal redundancy
2 failgroup c1 disk '/dev/raw/raw1'
3 failgroup c2 disk '/dev/raw/raw2';
create diskgroup dg1 normal redundancy
