Oracle datawarehouse

I attended the "Data warehouse database design" Oracle course and I saw that the Oracle raccomanded way to design a relational datawarehouse behave the dimensional schema in the constellation configuration.
This configuration allows the creation of both summary fact table and summary dimention table ( that ara dimention with an higher hierarchical level).
It is also suggested the use of Discover.
We tried to use Discover and we saw that we can't use relation in the summary. We also can't share a dimention on differet table.
Is the video31 example the only possible usage of the summary performed by Discoverer ?
Any answare or suggestion is welcome...

I dont think discoverer is a full fledged tool for data warehousing. It may be an efficient one for reporting.
Oracle Express is an excellent tool with plenty of features for data warehosing. If u r looking for a full fledged datawarehouse tool u can try tht.
good luck

  • Integration of oracle datawarehouse to enterprise portal

    Hi,
is it possible to connect/integrate an oracle datawarehouse to the enterprise portal? Has someone made this or has a reference of a client/company which made this integration?
    Thanks,
    Best regards,
    Christine

    Hello again,
Yes its very much possible. You will have to create a RFC / BAPI what ever you call it. And import it into  WD Java project.

  • Oracle DataWarehouse Builder

    Hi,
I am involved in same project - design of data warehouse.
And I am looking for someone who has any experiance of using Oracle DataWarehouse Builder.
Could one give a review of this tool.
    Thanks.
    MD

It was formerly Pure Integrate. Oracle bought it broke the key pieces down and integrated it into OWB. Very robust match/merge logic.

How do you check which version you have of the Oracle Datawarehouse Builder ?
Opatch gave an error, so is there any other method to check it?

  • [newbie] Configuration of Oracle Datawarehouse Builder

I've been trying to install Oracle Datawarehouse Builder 11g/10g on a WinXP 32bit machine, however, when browsing to the Repository explorer a "page cannot be displayed error" is being displayed. Basically all I've done so far is step through the installation wizard. Basic troubleshooting (see link below) did not improve matters as much; and neither did a nifty google search.
Has anyone encountered similar issues and found a solution?

No its not a problem to get to the design center. The browser just a helpful tool to see your previous executions/deployments or scheduedules in a easy way.
There is a greay tutorial that got me started:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/11gr1_owb/index.htm
Thing is you will learn to use the tools on that tutorial but not really why you need them in your datawarehouse architecture. The best thing for that is to read a book by Ralph Kimball. The Data Warehouse ETL Toolkit: Practical Techniques for Extracting, Cleaning, Conforming, and Delivering Data.
But try the tutorial first and get used with the ETL tools.
    Cheers

  • Oracle Datawarehouse Limitations

    Hi All,
can anybody tell me how much maximum data Oracle Datawarehouse can handle.
I am expecting aroung 5TB of data and retaining it for 1yr; the data is numaric and text no LOBS or images.
it will aproximately have 120billion records
can oracle manage this ammount of data?
is it possible to have performace good?
    Suggestions....are allways welcome
    regards,
    sachin

Generally, the only hard limit is going to be how much hardware (i.e. disk) you care to throw at the problem and the rate at which you can load data into the system. A 5 TB data warehouse is certainly large, but there are plenty of folks running systems that large or larger on Oracle.
Getting good performance out of a data warehouse (or any Oracle system for that matter) is, obviously, a huge topic. So I'm not sure what you would want to discuss in this forum. Obviously, reading the appropriate manuals (i.e. the Data Warehousing Guide, the Concepts and Administration guides if you are not already familiar with Oracle, the Performance and Tuning Guide, etc.)

  • Oracle datawarehouse and ETL

    Hi Friends,
Iam new to Oracle dataware house and ETL,i have some some doubts please advice me.
1.i have installed oracle warehouse builder and stated trying mapping section.
Iam not using any ETL tool, without using ETL tool we can do the ETL process ???
    please advice.
    Vinu

The Oracle Warehouse Builder (OWB) is an ETL tool. So there's nothing that prevents you from designing ETL processes apart from, maybe, missing knowledge. With OWB and an Oracle database you've got all what you need to create mappings.

  • Oracle datawarehouse builder INS0003, INS0009

    Hi,
i am encountering error while connecting to OWB Repository Assistant. when i try to connect as sys, i get an error INS0009 (unable to connect to database). if i give any other user with sysdba privileges then i get an error INS0003 (DBA privileges required) although it has been granted.
    plz help me.

    Hi, Gurus:
I have read your inputs and tried to solve my problem with OWB 10.2.0.4 patch application. It didn't work. I am seeking help. My basic situation is:
OWB 10.2.0.3 was installed by someone. Now developer use OWB 10.2.0.4 client. It can not access into existing OWB repository because the version is not matched. I got different errors as INS0009, ORA-01017 and LRM-00109 with the message as 'unable to connect to database with user SYS, invdlid username/password' I followed your advices above. Done these steps:
    1. SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION SERVICES=(NTS)
    2. INIT.ORA, remote_login_passwordfile=exclusive.
    3. shutdown database
    4. recreate password by using orapwd.
    5. startup database and connect as: sys/new_sys_password as sysdba, I connected.
    6. select * from v$pwfile_users; I got ' no rows selected'
    7. I guess the sys might not have sysdba privilege, Grant SYSDBA to sys; I was feedbacked with ' password file missing or disabled'
I have tried many other options. It didn't work. I even couldn't figure out what reason causing thses problem. By the way, I still use OWB client 10.2.0.3 on my desktop and I have no problem to access into that repository. So please help. Thanks.

  • License of Oracle

we creating Oracle datawarehouse through OBIEE for that
we need licenses information and if link available in net

The version of Informatica that is included with BI Applications Installation can only be used to load the Oracle Business Analytics Warehouse (Data Warehouse).
Only customers with a full license for Informatica can use Informatica to load other sources.
While you could use another production version of Informatica to run the ETL portions of the DAC you would really not want to do such a thing. The relationship between the DAC and Informatica (OEM) is very tight. It works well and it is not advisable to try to run other "supportable" options.

  • Cube Performance and Data Explosion

    Hi Experts,
One of the parterns developed a data warehouse application. And the DW application has some performance issue:
when the report get the query of the high level dimensions, the performance is okey, and when the query get the very detail data in the cube, the performance gets bad.
The aggregations and the detail data are all stored in the cube, and the cube data gets Explosion quite quickly since some detailed transaction data need to be queried and stored in the cube too.
So, experts, do you have any good suggestion on this issue? or if the may be a better design for the cube? e.g. in DW, the cube only stores the aggregations or summary on coarse grained data and measure, for fine grained data , it can be got in ODS.
another question, I google the architecture solution for the above issue, and someone said that if the DW is designed in a hypercube, there maybe data explosion issue, but instead of desinging the hypercube, multicube should be used, so I wonder if multicube can solve the data explosion issue, and how to solve it. And if the multicube has better performance than the hypercube or can also solve detail data query.
Last question, do you have any experience on DW implementation on TB level Data, and any good suggestion for architecture design using Oracle OLAP or Essbase for good performance.
    Thanks,
    Royal.

You have not asked any specific technical question. In my opinion all Oracle Datawarehouses should use Oracle OLAP option for the Aggregation strategy. Significant improvements in 11.2.0.2 (and later versions) have been made. It has become much easier now to create and maintain dimensions/cubes. On the reporting side, OBIEE 11g now understands OLAP metadata. Other reporting tools can use the CUBE_TABLE views.

  • Automatic Parallelism causes Merge statement to take longer.

We have a problem in a new project as part of the ETL load into the Oracle datawarehouse we perform a merge statement to update rows in a global temporary table then load
the results into a permanant table, when testing with automatic parallel execution enabled the plan changes and the merge never finishes and consumes vast amounts of resources.

I understand that the query is considered for parallel execution due to the estimated length of time it will run for and although the degree of parallleism seems excessive
it is the default maximum for the server configuration, what we are tryig to understand is which statistics could be inacurate or missing and could cause this kind of problem.
In this case we can add the no_parallel hint in the etl package as a workaround but would really liek to identify the root cause to avoid similar problems elsewhere.

Based on the discrepancy between the estimated number of rows and the actual, and the below posted bind value of 2012-04-25 i'd first be checking if the statistics on T_CACHARGES are up to date.

  • Forms server and bipublisher server integration.

    hello everyone,
Please i need to know whether it is possible to configure a managed server for bi publisher with an admin weblogic server server meant for forms eg (ofm pfrd weblogic server)
i am trying to integrated forms and bi publisher (all of 11g fusion middleware) together and i am confused on how to go about it.
    thanks in anticipation
    AbdurRahman.

    Hi AbdurRahman,
The only way to install Oracle Forms 11g, is to use it's own Fusion Middleware Installer - which generates a "standalone" WebLogic server pre-configured for Oracle forms (and Reports if desired). And there is no way to transfer the Forms Servlet apps to another Basic/Vanilla WebLogic domain.
To install forms, you'll need to download the installer to create the Form's ORACLE_HOME. Then use the Configuration Wizard ($ORACLE_HOME/bin/config.bat/sh) to create the WebLogic Domain and Servers. You can find the installers here: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/forms/downloads/index.html
    Forms Installation Guide: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E38115_01/doc.111210/e23960/overview.htm
A similar process must be followed for BI Publisher, where you download the necessary Binaries then configure a WebLogic Server based on those binaries.
BI Publisher Installation Guides: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E14571_01/bi.1111/e10539/toc.htm# and http://www.in-oracle.com/Oracle-DataWarehouse-BI/Oracle-Business-Intelligence/OBIEE/BI-Publisher-11g-installation-linux.php
As far as integration is concerned, you can still integrate, regardless of whether BI Publisher and Forms run on the same WebLogic Domain or not. So I wouldn't worry there. If you need help, feel free to check out my link below.
    Hope this helps!
    Thank you,
    Gavin

  • Use of quotes in a table name?

    Hello,
It seems Oracle treats a table name with and without quotes differently.
    SQL> create table abc (x integer);
    SQL> create table "abc" (y integer);
These two commands result in two different tables as can be seen from the following commands:
    SQL> desc abc;
    SQL> desc "abc";
However, I cannot get the list of tables.
    SQL> select * from tab where tname like '%abc%';
    returns just one row.
SQL> select * from all_objects where object_name like '%abc%' also does not show me abc and "abc" as two separate tables.
Q1. Is there a way to obtain the proper list?
Q2. What is the proper qualifier for specifing a table name? For example, SQL Server supports "[" and "]" around the table name. However, I could not find the equivalent grammar for PL/SQL.
The following command works (by trial and error):
    SQL> select * from (abc);
    However, the following doesn't:
    SQL> drop table (abc);
which means that "(" and ")" are not the qualifiers.
Thank you in advance for your help.
    Pradeep

Import and export and the other tools use quotes so
that objects will be properly re-created as they were
originally specified, even if some one uses reserved
words or case sensitive names. At least they should. I recently had a customer using FoxPro (!) to access my Oracle Datawarehouse and he named one of his column "ALTER" (age in german). Then he complained that my database is not working because he was getting an Oracle error (ORA-00936: missing expression)!
However, if some developer made me
    type:
    SELECT "MyCol1", "MyCol2", ...
    FROM "HisTable"
    WHERE "SomeStrangeColumnName" = 42every time,
I would think seriously of homocide :-).I know the feeling :-)

  • How to use full qualified table names in RPD

    Hi,
We are implementing the BI Financial Analytics, we have a requirement to use diffrent user accounts for DAC , ETL and OBIEE
DAC, ETL we are using user as XXOBI
For OBIEE RPD we have to use user with read only access such as XXOBI_APP
How can i make the changed to BI server / RPD to use full qualified names.
I have tried to select the Full Qualified table name property in Oracle Datawarehouse connection pool setting.
If i enable that all my sql query is showing tables as catalog.dbo.w_party_d ( my tables in physical layer showing under catalaog -> dbo -> all tables and joins)
Any help in this is appreciated.
    Thanks
    Kris

KrisAre you saying you just need to access the database using different accounts? If that is the case, why dont you just update the connection pool settings like username and password with XXOBI_APP account which you are supposed to be using for OBIEE?
