Every oracle professional (or student) should have their own private computer lab. I'm assuming in this day and age anyone in this catagory already has their own computer. Starting from there, you should do the following:
1 - Go to vmware.com and download VMplayer. VMware freely distributes this so your cost so far is zero. If you are willing to invest about US$185 in your career, buy VMworkstation instead. It will give you some additional management features above what VMplayer has. Either product will allow you to create virtual machines on your personal computer.
1a - Install the VM product
2 - Go to oracle.com and download Oracle Enterprise Linux. Oracle freely distributes this, only charging if you want a support contract. As they also provide a free public yum server for distribution of most packages, even a support contract is not needed for your personal use.
2a - using your vmproduct and your downloaded linux, create a virtual linux machine.
3 - Go to oracle.com and download whatever db or related product you want. The terms of the oracle license agreement allow you the full use of any product for personal study.
By doing the above I have a full computer lab running on my Windows 7 laptop, for a total cost of US$185 - and even that cost was because I chose to upgrade my VM from VMplayer to VMworkstation.

Oracle.ifs.admin.export.ExportUsers NOT working in SILENT mode
I'm trying to export my CMSDK users via the commandline script (since the GUI tool MAKES YOU SELECT EACH USER ONE AT A TIME!!!) but it is not working. Oracle BI Admin Tool: copying permissions from group to group
Hi!
I'm working with Oracle BI Admin Tool (10.1.3.4).
I have a lot of groups in the repository.
I want to create a seperate group for each department and set filter for each group. For example, group 'Market' should see data only from the Marketing department, group 'HR' should see data only from its department.
The question is the following: if I have 100 groups, do I have to set permissions to each of them manually or is there any mechanism of quick copying (function 'duplicate' is not suitable as groups are already created)?
Thank you,
NatalliaFirst about filtering data for specific user groups: you need to implement row level security by using session variables.
Here are some links:
http://oraclebizint.wordpress.com/2008/06/30/oracle-bi-ee-1013332-row-level-security-and-row-wise-intialized-session-variables/
http://www.rittmanmead.com/2007/05/13/obiee-and-row-level-security/
http://obieegeek.wordpress.com/2009/04/05/row-level-security-using-initialization-blocks-and-session-variables/
(You can find these links by using google.. ;))
Second about groups and copying privileges/permissions: I don't think it is possible to copy privileges/permissions (other than hardcoding UDML) but it is actually not necessary when you create a security model first. Let me explain: in OBIEE groups can be member of a group, and the underlying group will inherit all the permissions of the group it is member of.
So what you need to do, is to create one group with common permissions and privileges and add all the department groups to this group. If you want, you can then set the specific permissions for each group. -

Oracle 9iAS admin interface layout
To all:
I know I can created a portal the way I wanted but is it possible to change the layout of Oracle portal admin interface as well. For example, to use different color on the banner or use of our customized icons.
ThanksIf the 'Edit' link appears on the page you wish to change, then you have the appropriate permissions. The main admin page is within the 'Portal Design-Time Pages' page group.
Another way to find the main admin page is:
1. Click the 'Navigator' link.
2. Select the 'Page Groups' tab.
3. Find the 'Portal Design-Time Pages' row.
4. Click 'Edit Root Page'.
If you do not have the correct privileges, then you will not see the 'Edit Root Page' link.
Good luck!

ORA-28547: connection to server failed, probable Oracle Net admin errorYou can't directly use the gateway - you can only access a gateway using a database link.
So this won't work:
$ sqlplus aa/aa@dg4msql
You need to connect to your Oracle database (for example as sysdba) and create a (public) database link:
create [public] database link dg4msql connect to "<MS SQl Server username! identified by "<MS SQl Server password>" using 'dg4msql;
Once you create the database link you can now access the MS SQl Server tables:
select * from "your MS SQL Server table"@dg4msql; -
Oracle 10g Admin-I is done, what next?
Hi,
I have completed Oracle 10g Admin I & SQL. Can i take Oracle 11g Admin II or i just have to completed Oracle 10g Admin II (Instructer Lead) exam and the go for an upgrade to 11g ?
Plz suggest.
RegardsYour question is not really clear. I'm going to take some guesses at what you mean and what you are asking
I have completed Oracle 10g Admin I & SQL.I'm guessing that by this you mean that you have passed two Oracle certification exams, presumably:
*1Z0-007 Introduction to Oracle9i SQL*
and
*1Z0-042 Oracle Database 10g: Administration I*
Can i take Oracle 11g Admin II I'm assuming that you are asking if you can take the following exam:
*1Z0-053 Oracle Database 11g: Administration II*
This exam is on a different track than 1Z0-042. The two cannot be combined for any certification.
or i just have to completed Oracle 10g Admin II (Instructer Lead) exam To complete the Oracle 10G certification, you must pass the following exam:
*1Z0-043 Oracle Database 10g: Administration II*
The exam itself is not instructor-lead, so I don't know what you mean by that. In addition to passing the test, you must attend instructor-lead training. The courses valid for the 10G track can be found here:
http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=244#2
and the go for an upgrade to 11g ?Once you have your 10G certification, you can upgrade to having an 11G OCP certification by passing the following exam:
*1Z0-050 Oracle Database 11g: New Features for Administrators* -
Oracle.mobile.admin.ResourceManager
There was a previous post of same kind of issues that I'm facing on this forum which was not answered from anyone.
Compatible parameter
* How to get (list) the snapshots on specific app?ResourceManager.listSnapshots("virtual path", platform) ==> is not working;
* How to list the template variables on specific snapshot (and change them)?
I am able to list the users and applications and get the virtual path of the applications but above questions (snapshots and template variables) are not resolved.
Is there some 'features' on the web-to-go api or what could be the case?I found a couple of more same kind of problems that I'm facing.
Re: Printing with Discoverer R1
But the main thing still is that some of the methods of ResourceManager work and some dont which is confusing.
For example following methods are working fine :
ResourceManager.listUsers(null); ==> returns user ok
ResourceManager.getDBCOnnectionSharing("/app_name"); ==> ok
ResourceManager.listApplicationsByVP(null); ==> list apps ok
ResourceManager.listSnapshots("/app_name",WINCE); ==> ok
But for example method's
ResourceManager.listTemplateVariables("/app_name", WINCE);
ResourceManager.getTemplateVariables("/app_name",WINCE, "USERNAME");
won't work.
I'm debugging my application on wtgdebug (localhost on my workstation + PocketPC) and the error stack is :
log3: java.lang.NullPointerException
log3: at oracle.lite.sync.SiteDef.<clinit>(SiteDef.java:145)
log3: at oracle.lite.sync.Consolidator.<clinit>(Consolidator.java:390)
log3: at
oracle.lite.web.resource.ResourceFactory.getInstance(ResourceFactory.java:73)
log3: at oracle.mobile.admin.ResourceManager.<init>(ResourceManager.java:111)
log3: at
oracle.mobile.admin.ResourceManager.openConnection(ResourceManager.java:123)
Do I have some configuration mistake somewhere (webtogo.ora)? Or why the api works only partly? The purpose why I need the snapshot template variables is that I have to sync between the main database and oracle lite dynamically, ie. I have to be able to select inside my code what I want to sync. If I understand it correctly the other way to do things is mSync program, which always syncs everything for the user (User cannot select the data that he wants to sync). -
Regarding Participant Creation::Authentication in Oracle BPM Admin Console
Hi,
Q1:- Could anyone help me in validating whether we can additional information about participant in Admin console. The parameters available for Participant creation are:
UserId, First Name,Last Name, Email, Password, Confirm Passowrd, etc.
Now suppose, I want to add Manager's information also like Manager's Name and Manager's ID with the Participant information. These fields are not present in Participant Creation form.
Is it possible to add these information also?? If yes, how??
Q2:- We are using PAPI API where we have ASP.net which is used as Front-End and thru PAPI, BPM process is initiated which means we are not going to use BPM Workspace at all. Is it possible that we can disable the Authentication property of BPM Engine when we require interaction with external .net application via PAPI API. Please suggest?
Thanks in advance,
AbhishekHi,
not any thing new from the already given answer. But, i hope this examples gives more clarity.
Answers below:
1) ORACLE_SID is the answer
2) see the output below.
SQL> startup nomount
ORACLE instance started.
Total System Global Area 61785680 bytes
Fixed Size 730704 bytes
Variable Size 58720256 bytes
Database Buffers 2048000 bytes
Redo Buffers 286720 bytes
SQL> select instance_name from v$instance;
INSTANCE_NAME
mytestdB
SQL>
SQL> show parameter db_name
NAME TYPE
VALUE
db_name string
mytestdB
3) Check environment variables for ORACLE_HOME variable will let you know the location of the PFILE. By default it will be ORACLE_HOME/database (windows), ORACLE_HOME/dbs (LINUX/UNIX).
SET command will help you or use widows options.
In some other cases, the PFILE contains the link to it with IFILE value left in PFILE which should show the location.
4) Check environment variables for ORACLE_HOME variable will let you know the location of the password file. By default it will be expected in ORACLE_HOME/database (windows), ORACLE_HOME/dbs (LINUX/UNIX).

Oracle APEX admin screen is blank
Hi Guys
steps done so far:
1. @apexins SYSAUX SYSAUX TEMP /i/
2. @apxchpwd
3. install standalone listener :
java -jar apex.war
4. start listener:
java –Dapex.home=apex_location –Dapex.images=images_location –Dapex.port=8088 –jar apex.war
5. go to admin screen
http://servername:8088/apex/listenerAdmin
6. Admin screen is blank.
7. @apex_epg_config /tmp
8. Admin screen is still blank.
Any ideas why?1. Which APEX version did you install? I assume the current one, which would be 4.1...
Yes it is 4.12. What did you enter during this (initial) configuration? Did you receive any error? Did you run "listenerConfigure"?
entered admin pwd and manager pwd. No error. I did not run listenerConfigure3. Could you post the console output from startup...
