Hi,
first at all, sorry by my poor english.
I wanted to install the 10g and self-study guide that Oracle sent me in the mail. The install requires a registration key, made available at oracle.com.
After filling in all the forms required to register, I wind up at a "Survey Error", and of course no key.
If Oracle 10g it is free, why asking for a registration key ??.
How I can solve this problem ?
Exist any trick to install it ?
Please I really need help in this !!!
Thanks.Hi,
I know that Oracle isn't free, sorry it was my error.
I received the Oracle 10g Database + Software + Self-Study guide from the Oracle Company via Postal.
When I try to install the database, a windows appear asking for the registration key...
I follow the instructions to receive by email the key, but when completing the steps give me an error (404 page not found).
Consequently I do not obtain the key and I cannot install
the database.

Oracle Secure Backup datasets Rman backup
Hi all,
I want use the scheduler on OSB, to launch a shell script to backup a database by rman.
I made a test, and the backup executed well. I created a dataset, like that:
include host hostn01
include path /u01/app/oracle/dummy
after backup "/u01/app/oracle/admin/scripts/rman/full_db.sh"
Script full_db.sh as:
su - oracle -c "/u01/app/oracle/admin/scripts/rman/level0_db_tape.sh"
The script above invoke the rman backup full, and finish without any errors.
My question. It is possible to have a dataset without the include path for a dummy dir? like that or similar?
include host hostn01
"/u01/app/oracle/admin/scripts/rman/full_db.sh"
The OSB version is 10.4.3
Cumps,Hi
You can use RMAN for Backup and Restore using Oracle Secure Backup. But the following has to met before the implementation.
1. RMAN must connect through pre-authorised user
2. pre-authorised OSB user's OSB class must have database backup and restore rights
3. OSB user permissions must match those of Oracle Instance.
Please check all the above....
Thanks

I have the 9i developer suite that shipped with my textbook, and i'm having the 'no email with key' problem. I've followed the online 'survey' and it's been a good 8 hours with no reply email. I need this for class! :) Thanks...
Ah hah, patience was in order. It took nearly an hour, but I did receive the registration, even thou I was not prompted to enter my email address (I am registered with OTN).
I also saw a nice writeup on http://www.course.com/cdkit/ with helpful installation information, listed by book. It gives specifics about registering, as well as the installation itself. Very helpful. -
Cold backup registration on rman
5) can we register manual cold backup in rman?
If you take backup using RMAN, it will automatically register with controlfile,
What else you are looking for?
If those are new backup pieces, which are not registered, then you can catalog those backup pieces.
copy all the backup pieces in folder and give
catalog start with 'location'it will register all the pieces.
Thanks -
We are looking for some information regarding Self-Registration, Your replies are greatly appreciated.
1. How can we modify (add/delete) attributes in the Self-Registration module.
2. How can we access the attributes of this User repository( tables) Is there any out-of-the-box (customizable) functionality to search these tables.
Thanks in Advance.
MohanHi,
I found an article on Metalink that says to create the self-registration workflow using Quickstart, and then copy a link/URL that appears after saving the workflow.
I'm still wondering how to figure out what that URL is after-the-fact, i.e., if I forgot to copy the URL after creating the workflow initially??
Does anyone know?
Thanks,

Monitor the online backup progress in Oracle 11g (RMAN)
Hi,
is there a simple way to see the progress of the online backp for oracle?
We are using oracle 11g and using RMAN td level-0 and level-1 backups in the SAP environment(SAP Netweaver 7.01)
Regards,
RakeshThanks Siva!
I was looking for something like a script which tells me the running backup progress.
Like the following script which tells the status of RMAN backup (completed/failed):
col STATUS format a9
col hrs format 999.99
select
SESSION_KEY, INPUT_TYPE, STATUS,
to_char(START_TIME,'mm/dd/yy hh24:mi') start_time,
to_char(END_TIME,'mm/dd/yy hh24:mi') end_time,
elapsed_seconds/3600 hrs
from V$RMAN_BACKUP_JOB_DETAILS
order by session_key;

Oracle 10g - Cross-Platform Transportable Database (with or without RMAN?)
Hello guys,
i am currently on a project for migrating oracle databases from one platform to another platform (both platforms are on the same endianess):
-> From Linux 64-Bit to Windows 64-Bit
-> From HP-UX 64-Bit to AIX 64-Bit
All databases are on Oracle 10g (10.2.0.4) and i have tested two different ways:
1) The "official" way with RMAN CONVERT DATABASE
http://youngcow.net/doc/oracle10g/backup.102/b14191/dbxptrn002.htm#CHDEEEAG
2) "Copy & Paste"
- Copy & Paste of the database files
- Recreate controlfile manually on target platform (with help of "backup controlfile to trace" on source platform)
Both ways are working well and the migrated test databases are running fine.
Now i am wondering why there is a "RMAN CONVERT DATABASE" command, if it possible to copy and paste the data files and perform two steps manually afterwards.
The "RMAN CONVERT DATABASE" is time consuming and you still need to copy the RMAN output files to the target platform.
Is there any special reason, why you need the "RMAN CONVERT DATABASE"? Does the "RMAN CONVERT DATABASE" change some things in the database files internally?
Thanks and RegardsHello,
Anurag Tibrewal wrote:
If the source platform and the target platform are of different endianness, then an additional step must be done on either the source or target platform to convert the tablespace being transported to the target format. Of course .. in this case you can not use the "Cross-Platform Transportable Database" - you have to use the "Cross-Platform Tranportable Tablespace" (with RMAN CONVERT DATAFILE or TABLESPACE).
Anurag Tibrewal wrote:
If they are of the same endianness, then no conversion is necessary and tablespaces can be transported as if they were on the same platform.Yes, but oracle provides this with RMAN and the command "RMAN CONVERT DATABASE" .. as i already wrote i have already performed the two ways "RMAN CONVERT DATABASE" and "just copy & paste" and both are working fine.
So my question is if there is any special case in which you should use the RMAN way with "RMAN CONVERT DATABASE" instead of just "copy & paste" if you stay on the same endianness?
Thanks and Regards -

RMAN > backup current controlfile tag TEST1;
then try spfile to tape
RMAN> run {
allocate channel t1 type 'sbt_tape' parms "ENV=(NB_ORA_POLICY=PROTECT_ORACLE_1,NB_ORA_SERV=NBBK12)";
backup spfile;
release channel t1;
dont think you need nb_ora_serv unless the NBU software didnt know where to send the backups but it should.
in netbackup admin console, look at the job activity and watch and see does a connection come in from the NBU client, the client being the server where the database resides
have you ever succesfully backed anything else from RAC to NBU? Took me ages first time to get it right. -
RMAN Configuration in DG Environment
Hi,
I have planned a backup strategy for my Oracle 10g Database using RMAN . Physical standby is used for DG . I wanted to know how can I create a physically seperate catalog server for the above purpose.

VinitaHello,
About Standby Database Registration
In a Data Guard environment, the primary and standby databases share the same DBID and database name. To be eligible for registration in the recovery catalog, each database in the Data Guard environment must have different DB_UNIQUE_NAME values. The DB_UNIQUE_NAME parameter for a database is set in its initialization parameter file.
If you use RMAN in a Data Guard environment, then you can use the REGISTER DATABASE command only for the primary database. You can use the following techniques to register a standby database in the recovery catalog:
When you connect to a standby database as TARGET, RMAN automatically registers the database in the recovery catalog.
When you run the CONFIGURE DB_UNIQUE_NAME command for a standby database that is not known to the recovery catalog, RMAN automatically registers this standby database as long as its primary database is registered.

I'm not sure if that extension has been upgraded for sql developer 4. Extensions written for previous versions won't work in sql developer 4 - they need to be modified to support the OSGI framework.
Leave the thread open until one of the sql developer team members can answer this.
Here is the note from the sql developer exchange home page
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/sql-developer/extensions-083825.html
Special Note Regarding Extensions Developed Prior to SQL Developer
v4.0:
With the new release of SQL
Developer 4.0, an extension that was written for a previous version of SQL
Developer will no longer work. SQL Developer is built on the JDeveloper
Framework. We have updated the framework to be current with the JDeveloper 12c
release. With JDeveloper 11gR2, they switched to an OSGI framework. The JDeveloper team has published instructions for updating your extensions to be compatible with
the new framework and SQL Developer v4.0.
The Check for Updates interface
has been updated to hide any 3rd party extensions to avoid confusion with
extensions not loading. Once you have updated your extension for version 4 and
beyond, let us know, and we'll update the system to make it available again. For
questions regarding the process of going from the old to new framework, we have
started a dedicated
thread on the Forums. You can also email the Product Manager, Jeff Smith, to
setup a call with one of our developers for additional assistance.
As that note says if that extension is NOT for version 4 it shouldn't show up on the list of updates. -

Edited by: martin.morono on Nov 8, 2012 11:49 AMThanks Levi,
I slightly modified your script to recatalog the backup pieces since they are note stored at the same location in PR and QA.
No luck. The error message is different but the result is the same... it keeps failing.

Register database problem (oracle 8.1.6) on Linux 6.2
I'm unable to register my database using RMAN. I'm using Oracle 8.1.6 on Redhat Linux 6.2 (glibc - 2.2.14-5.0). Is there any known bug in Oracle 8.1.6 / rman on Linux 6.2.
These are the steps I followed:
1. Create rman Tablespace
=============================
create tablespace TS_RMAN
datafile '/u01/orauser/oradata/mydb/TS_RMAN.dbf'
size 5M
autoextend on;
2. Create rman user
=============================
create user rmanusr identified by rmanusr
default tablespace TS_RMAN
temporary tablespace TEMP
quota unlimited on TS_RMAN;
3. Grant roles to rman user
==================================
grant connect, resource,recovery_catalog_owner to rmanusr;
4. I'm logging on the server directly
$rman target system/manager catalog rmanusr/rmanusr
5. RMAN> create catalog tablespace TS_RMAN
.... catalog created!
6. RMAN> register database;
... gives me all these errors messages >>

Actually I followed the same steps in my own PC with Oracle 8.1.7 on Win2k, It worked!!Hello,
Narender,you have to include DISPLAY in your .bash_profile and set to your hostname, somewhat like this DISPLAY=hostname:0.0
or read the installation guides, installation of Oracle 8.1.6 in RHL 6.2 is straight forward. -
How to restore a database from host A to host B by using RMAN
Hi there
I wanted to restore 1 database from machine A to machine B with the differente files systemes. I did these steps below, but I have a problem when I restore the controlfile from machine A to machine B.
1-copy the controlfile from machine A to machine B by using OS utility.
2-startup nomount the database on machine B.
3-connect target and catalog RMAN.
4-I have to restore the controlfile from last full backup of the machine A to machine B (see the procedure RMAN).
I have the error messages like:

nullHi there
I'm also trying to restore a full RMAN backup to our DR site using Netbackup as MML
My scenario is:
We have one tape library at our PROD data center and another one at our DR site both using Netbackup as Storage manager
I performed a full RMAN backup on 4 DLT tapes with recovery catalog at our PROD datacenter, then I removed the 4 tapes and place it in our tape lib at DR site
I tried to import the tapes using bpimport from Netbackup which has been successful up to now
But when I tried to restore controlfile from RMAN, I get the following error:
