Oracle Export Utility

Hi I have to export data from Oracle 9i to unix in flat file.
My data in oracle is having Chinese Traditional and User defined word along with English words. I am using Oracle 9i database.
In Oracle its in UTF8 encoding and i have to export data in BIG5 encoding in Unix.
Please tell me the possible ways to export data from Oracle to Unix with encoding conversion(UTF-8 to BIG 5).
Thanks for help in advance.

Hi Sergiusz,
Thanks for reply.
When i tried on DB that was on Solaris 8, it was no working and all Double Byte char were becoming as ?.
But when i tried on DB that was on Solaris 10, It was giving correct values and this DB has following NLS_DATABASE_PARAMETERS values:
NLS_NCHAR_CHARACTERSET : AL16UTF16
NLS_CHARACTERSET : AL32UTF8
If i have one DB which have following NLS_DATABASE_PARAMETERS values:
NLS_NCHAR_CHARACTERSET : UTF8
NLS_CHARACTERSET : UTF8
Then still it will work fine?
I can not check this on above DB(that having NLS_NCHAR_CHARACTERSET and NLS_CHARACTERSET as UTF8) as its productiona and i dont have access to test it.
Pls suggest.
Thanks in advance.

Anshu

  • Is any way to install only Export utility without installing oracle

    how in can install only Export utility in windows server or in windows xp
    and if not is it possible to use Export utility in oracle 10g to export data from oracle 9i

    The general rule of thumb is
    1. To export data from upper version to lower version, you need to export/import using that lower versions of exp and imp utility.
    2. To export data from lower version to upper version, you need to export/import using that upper versions of exp and imp utility.

    I think it may be possible to install database utilities w/o installing full S/W. Please note that I have not tried this approach

  • Oracle Import and Export Utility

    Hello All,
    Could someone please explain me Oracle Import and Export Utility. I've gone through the below link and it has been mentioned to use keyword 'exp' but I'm not getting any idea where to use it. So kindly explain how the util works.

    Hello;
    Export creates a logical backup its great for move tables, schemas etc.
    Import bring that data back in.
    You can use a parm file with either.
    Import example :
    imp parfile=in.parm
    in.parm ( contains )
    userid=system/<password>
    fromuser=scott
    touser=scott
    file=in.dmp
    log=in.logemp parfile=out.parm
    out.parm ( contains )
    userid=system/<password>
    owner=scott
    file=out.dmp
    log=out.dmp
    statistics=noneYou can use these commands at the OS level to get quick help.
    imp help=y
    enp help=yYou can export a subset of a table :
    exp scott/t<password> tables=emp query="where deptno=20"You can use options like :
    full=y
    BUFFER=2000000
    GRANTS=y
    COMPRESS=yThis utility is being replaced by data pump.
    Best Regards

  • Suggestion regarding Oracle import & export utility

    hi
    I am navneet,I want to give some suggestion on Oracle import & export utility to Oracle Corporation. can u tell me where to send these suggestions
    regards
    navneet

    It would seem to me that if they are enhancement requests, then the right way would be to file an enhancement request. If they are bugs, then file SRs so bugs can be entered.

  • What's wrong with 8.1.7 export utility

    I was trying to export an Oracle 8.1.6 database by using export
    utility from Oracle 8.1.7 client. But I get a lot of errors.
    When I try to export from Oracle 8.1.6 client everything goes
    smoothly.
    What's wrong with export utility in Oracle 8.1.7 client??
    regards,
    Evan

    It is because for each new version there is more and different
    things that need to be exported so the x+1 exp utility expects
    the new things to be there and fails if they are not.
    The reason I suspect Oracle did this is that most exports are
    done on the server. It is not generaly a good idea to run exp
    across a network for performance reasons (ie you move the entire
    database). As most exports are done on the server the
    comapability is not an issue.most bullet proof solution.

  • How to define table specific QUERY in parameter file for Export Utility

    Hi All
    I am trying to create A SINGLE parameter file for export utility. I have 2 tables and want to use a different QUERY condition for each of these tables. However i do not want to create 2 seperate parameter files for this and run/script exp twice.
    Is there a way to do it ?
    NOTE: I am using normal export utility for Version 9 and NOT oracle data pump.
    Following is an example of what i want to achive in parameter file:
    Tables = (TabA,TabB)
    # for table - TabA
    QUERY = "where id =25"
    #for table - TabB
    QUERY = " where court_id=54 and id >1"
    Please advice on syntax of parameter file so that exp knows that it has to process 1st condition for only TabA and second condition for TabB.
    Any samples/syntax examples are greately appreciated.
    thanks in advance!
    cool tech

    No there is no such alternative. Query condition is applicable to all the tables listed in TABLES parameter.

  • Use of QUERY option in 9iRel2 Export utility

    Hi All,
    Is it possible to use a query option to the export utility of the form below assuming I am exporting a table called test1:
    query="(test1.col1,test1/col2) not in (select test2.col1,test2.col2 from test2)"
    I am not sure if it is allowed to reference another table in the query clause, test2 in the example above....?
    Thanks

    I don't have a 9iR2 environment with me right now but this works on 10gR2. And I have no reason to believe that it would not work in 9iR2.

  • Use of Oracle pump utility as equivalence of SQL bcp utility??

    can anyone throw any pointers to how to use Oracle pump utility as equivalence of SQL bcp utility??

    The equivalence of BCP is SQL*Loader. Data pump is used for export/import. During an import operation it can read just a file created by data pump export.

  • What does Consistent=Y means in the export utility

    Hi,
    I have been trying to understand consistent=y means through so many books however didnt get my fundamentals clear on that part.
    can someone let me know what does this would do??( in brief)
    I would also like to know what would happen if consistent is set to N?
    also what oracle would do if the export is in progress and some update is going on?
    Thanks
    NK

    CONSISTENT was used to get data consistency during the export time. As it explain as well in the doc of export utility.
    That say, it's for old export utility, and it is no more used with the new 10g export utility, expdp. By reading the 10g expdp doc, you should learn to use FLASHBACK_SCN or FLASHBACK_TIME instead.

  • Oracle Export/Import tility

    Hi
    I wanted to know whether the object privileges granted on various objects are exported along with everything else when an export is carried out in full database export mode.
    I have gone through Oracle documentation for Oracle
    Utilities. I found that system privilege grants, role grants, table grants are exported in full database mode export. But there is no mention of any other object priviliges.
    Further this is the explanation for the export parameter "GRANT"
    GRANTS
    Default: Y
    Specifies whether or not the Export utility exports object grants. The object grants that are exported depend on whether you use full database or user mode. In full database mode, all grants on a table are exported. In user mode, only those granted by the owner of the table are exported. Note that system privilege grants are always exported.

    Hi Joel
    I had gone through all that documentation before posting the query.
    By the way we are still on Oracle 8.1.7 because of restrictions placed by the client applications.
    I wanted to know whether the object privilege grants on various objects(eg. execute on procedures, select on views, alter and select on sequences etc.) are exported along with everything else when an export is carried out in full database export mode.
    I know from the white paper for Oracle utilities that, role grants, table grants and system privilige grants are included in a full database export mode. There are so many other object privilige grants that could be made.
    I could not find whether grants on any database objects other than tables are included or not in a full database export.
    Example : If user A has granted execute on procedure PROC1 to user B, whether this grant is exported along with the procedure and both the users in a full database export mode.
    I was hoping to draw on experience of forum members here. If anyone has encountered a similar question and has a solution to it, please help me.
    Thanks

  • CMSDK import/export utility

    Can the 9i CMSDK import/export utility be used to export the content of the an iFS 1.1.6 schema to subsequently import into a 9i database? Once imported into the 9i database, then migrate/upgrade the 9i iFS schema to CMSDK 9 for testing purposes?

    Thank you for your advice Luis.
    What I really need to be able to do is keep my iFS 1.1.6/RDBMS8.1.7.4 development environment intact, while creating a CMSDK/Oracle9i environment for regression testing. I have multiple iFS schemas (6) in our 8.1.7.4 dev database (source). And, what I would like to do is copy one of the iFS environments (including Metadata) out of source and move it into the CMSKD/Oracle9i environment(target). Both environments need to remain accessible, and the source environment needs to remain at version iFS1.1.6 / 8.1.7.4 for regression testing.
    Here's a list of actions that I have taken:
    1. install oracle9i rdbms software.
    2. create 9i database from scratch.
    3. install 9iAS software
    4. install CMSDK software in 9iAS root.
    5. export one iFS schema out of the dev source database. (Using the plain RDBMS export utility)
    6. import this schema into the newly created Oracle9i database.
    7. Run CMSDK configuration tool to upgrade the imported iFS 1.1.6 schema. <== FAILED HERE!!!!
    I run into a problem at the start of the upgrade, when using the configuration tool. It complains that the credential manager username IFSSYS$CM does not exist and fails. So, I simply created a user called IFSSYS$CM in the 9i target database to see if this would allow the configuration tool upgrade process to progress and the result was another error of "Insufficient Privileges". How can manually set a the crediential manager so that the imported iFS schema can be upgraded successfully?
    I realize that be doing an in-place upgrade of my entire Oracle 8i source database. I will be able to migrate both the RDBMS and iFS using the installation/configuration tools.
    If there is a limitation of not being able to copy (credential manager metadata) an iFS 1.1.6 schema out of the source and into a target database, and then upgrading/migrating the schema to CMSDK/Oracle9i. Then I may be forced into cloning my entire development instance (giving it a different name) and then doing in-place migration of the entire cloned database (all 6 iFS schemas). Our source dev database is 18G and includes much more (probably garbage data) than will be needed for our regression testing. My hope was to take only a subset of the 18G (1 of the 6 iFS schemas) and move it into CMSDK/Oracle9i to perform the testing. We are very low on available disk space and taking only a subset would be a more efficient use.
    I have even attempted to use the CMSDK export utility to export the iFS1.1.6 schema. I was hoping this would export the iFS1.1.6 schema, metadata, contents, and credential manager. This was not successful due to missing Java packages not installed in the Oracle8i (8.1.7.4 database).
    These are all the details of my dilemma. Can you help guide me in the right direction. I've spent a lot time already fumbling through and have had a number of false starts with my proposed approach. I need someone to tell me the recommended way of approaching my issue. Thanks again.
