Oracle-forms don't open

Hi guys,
I am joining on internship a company that's using Oracle EBS, and before allowing me to work on the real thing, they had me experiment with this one: http://r12vis.infosemantics.net/ which is based on Oracle EBS R12. I am facing the following error message whenever i try launch any form-based application, It says:
"In order to access this application, you must install the J2SE Plugin version 1.7.0_75. To install this plugin, click here to download the oaj2se.exe executable. Once the download is complete, double-click the oaj2se.exe file to install the plugin. You will be prompted to restart your browser when the installation is complete." I was running WIN8.1 X64 with Java 1.8 installed when i encountered this error. reasoning that my version of JRE is higher hence should be able to run older stuff I tried uninstalling and reinstalling to no vail. Then i installed the version cited above and it didn't work. Googling around cited reasons for path and other installations problems, but i have no such an issue. i asked my peers and it turns out even with that even with their R12.1.3 they are facing the same problem with their hundreds of PCs running all sorts of windows from 7 to 8 and 8.1 with different architectures x86 and x64 and all of them are facing the same problem!!!
to recap, here's the problems in few points:
1) It does not point me to the latest JRE release, which is java 1.8u31.
2) I tried installing the version cited above, but that DID NOT SOLVE the problem!!!! Neither did any later version.
3) Googling around i arrived at this link : https://blogs.oracle.com/stevenChan/entry/jre_8_ebs which clearly states that the original jre1.8 is compatible with R12 and should've run yet that didn't happen.
4) After telling my supervisor he gave me a setup for JRE 1.6u31 which worked for me, but i have no idea why!!!
5) JRE 1.6 u31 is outdated by now, and is blocked by IE 11 due to some active x stuff, so it's not a solution to the problem? Coud be there a problem with the server shown in this figure?
Are there any configuration files or something that must be tampered with? i am hoping for a solution.
Please provide me with your valuable insights.
Thanks in advance

Hi,
Sorry for the trouble, but can you upload the documents? They keep asking for a support Identifier, probably something given only to those who are using the real system not a testing one like the one i am using. Your help will be most appreciated
To view these documents you need to have a valid support Identifier (License). If you don't have one than you may not be able to view these documents.
Uploading/sharing MOS documents is a violation of license agreement. So please do not expect help from forum users.

• Can Oracle Form Builder 10g open forms created with Developer 11g?

Hi,
Two different groups of developers developed forms in both Forms versions 10g and 11g. There will be call_forms between both versions and both will run under the same portal. Production is 10g. Is it possible to open 11g forms in 10g Form Builder? Suggestion/ solutions are appreciated.
Thanks,
Victor

It is likely you will run into issues, so I would say best not to. I have done it a couple of times by accident during migration of Forms 10g to 11g. You can still open and view the 11g forms code in the Forms 10g builder, but will likely see some objects appear as incorrect types. Saving the 11g form in such a state from the 10g Forms Builder may result in corruption.

• WebUtil within Oracle Forms (Find File - Open File Dialog Window)

I have successfully configured WebUtil and I can successfully execute the functions. I have been working with PKG_FIND_FILE.Selection function (which displays an Open File Dialog Window).
I cannot figure out why the following is occurring:
When I call the above function, the system typically displays an older dialog window (light blue / gray) window. For a brief time, we were able to bring up the "Windows looking" dialog window. I don't know what we changed in the configuration, but it is now back to the older looking light blue/gray dialog window.
Any ideas on where in the configuration, this would cause the dialog window to switch its "look and feel"
Thanks,
Mike

File dialog look has been changed because of the java version difference.
In Java 1.4 the look is different and 1.5 shows another way.
So check which java plugin and the version of the java
( go to control panel->settings -> click on java and check on version)

• How to open an internet browser inside an Oracle Form?

Hello,
I am using Oracle forms 10g and I want to open any internet browser inside my oracle form. Any idea if it is even do able in the forms.
Thanks in advance for your help!
Hemangi

Are you talking about displaying a webpage directly inside of an Oracle Form or simply opening a webpage (in a browser window) form a Form?
If you want embed a webpage in a Form, then this can only be done by extending Forms functionality througha Java Bean. Take a look at this Java Bean: A Full Web Browser Java Bean .
If you just want to open a web page from Forms the MST is correct.

• It looks Oracle Form/Applet die hard versus J2EE Servlet/JSP/JSF & AJAX

I left the form forum for a while and am busy with transfering our Oracle web forms app to Struts based J2EE application (just because the Oracle EE AS is the moving cause, it's out of my control.). After a year or so on J2EE which I enjoyed the fresh OO coding while keep enhancing Oracle webform app in production, I have some thought on Applet vs J2EE JSP/JSF plus AJAX.
1) JSP itself is hard to avoid the full screen refreshing even though user just does partial changes ,e.g., lists, on the screen, it has to use AJAX to do the tricks. While partial refreshing in applet is natural default behavior.
2) Forms is really an RAD, while J2EE's IDEs does help a bit(IBM's Websphere v6 even called iRAD) which takes way longer programming time compared to Forms. One IBM's article says it trys to win the Oracle Forms developers by giving the familiar graphical way of drag/drop GUI, so IBM recognizes the RAD coding power of Oracle Forms. So, IBM promotes the RAD similar to Oracle Forms.
3) GUI/business rules related validation: Applet offered a great advantage over JSP/ even JSF which to avoid the full screen refresh, AJAX/JavaScript is used heavily. User friendly interaction of applet is way better than J2EE.
4) Browser's back/refresh buttons also are headache to J2EE, expecially we need to support IE and Firefox. Applet basically is not bothered by these buttons.
Recently, I read techi news said that the new chips will make the network transfer speed 10 time faster than now-even the cell phone transfer the image will be way faster. Then I predict the applet, just like IBM's mainframe, will see its Spring again, not like now in its winter. Especially the Oracle Forms makes coding easier than pure applet coding.
Oracle folks, kepp beefing up the Oracle Forms, don't just pay attention to JDev. J2EE IDE, most of all, remove the Oracle EE ASxx block, be open. Oracle EE ASxx is really not a pretty baby, even though so Oracle thinks it is.

1) Why we are transfering your Oracle web forms app to Struts based J2EE application?
Since our corporate is IBM world-DB2/UDB, WebSphere AS (WAS) etc. It only allows Oracle Forms/reports servers to be compatible with the infrastructure. It does not allow to purchase another EE app server(espeically LDAP). We could not upgrade our forms/reports6i to 9i or 10g.
2.Therefore the Oracle EE AS is the moving cause, it's out of my control because I did my best to talk to Oracle sales, but no avail. I am glad that I got a good chance to beef up my J2EE Struts skills.
If extract out the forms/report9i/10g engines from the Oracle EE AS 9i/10g, (don't attempt to bundle sell the EE AS to customers-regardless of the shrinked 9.0.4 forms/reports services version, it's still another EE AS) and make them compatible with other ASs(espcially the LDAP), then Oracle Forms will have more customers.

• Need to login again while opening a JSP page from inside Oracle Forms

Hi,
we are using EBS r12.1.1 on OEL 5.
Whenever we are trying to open java page from inside an Oracle Form a login page is coming again. And we need to login to view the page.Whereas when the same page is been opened from the home page itself it is opening fine.
Please help.

Hi,
We've had similiar issues to this. Typically it's around the java version on the client machine being different to that on the oracle server.
We usually uninstall the client machines java (making sure all applications are closed first), then log back into forms so it downloads the java client again from the server.
Once it has done that, you need to go into the java control panel and turn off updates.
Hope that helps.
Cheers,
Russell H.

• Open Oracle Forms app from APEX

How can I open an Oracle Forms application from within APEX?
Right now, the Forms app is accessed simply through a Bookmarked hyperlink, so it seems to me I should be able to open a browser window and send it the same url from within APEX. Can someone provide all the details please? Thank You.

I don't know about Oracle Forms specifically... but you should be able to put a link to any arbitrary URL within your Apex application, and have the browser access that URL.
For instance, you can create a button and set that URL as the button's location, or create a Display-Only item with a default value set to a block of HTML including an <a href> tag.
