Oracle Forms vs APEX for Web Development

Could you please suggest me which Oracle Technology will be better suitable give flexibility for developing a web application of Information processing.
1). Oracle Forms (Web)
or
2) Oracle Application express
and also please explain the how it is good comparative other.

I think you should also include the licensing issues in application development/deployment plans. As you might know, Forms requires iDS (for development) and iAS EE (for deployment) licenses. For JDeveloper and ADF, the development platform is free and the iAS Java version is much cheaper compared to the iAS EE license. When it comes to APEX licensing, it is free as long as the database server is properly licensed. For a small size company, APEX and the JDeveloper + ADF and iAS Java version makes perfect sense. Because Forms Services is only a part of the EE version of the iAS server, it might be an expensive option for a small scale application. On the other hand iAS EE is very capable and scaleable framework and you can deploy both J2EE, Forms, Reports, Discoverer, Portal applications from a single platform.
Hope this proves useful.

  • Oracle forms vs apex

    hi all ,
i want to know the difference between the both , because i've read before that the two of them are for developing enterprise applications, so what is the difference ? is apex for developing applications just for small enterprises ? or what ?
    thanks in advance

This question was asked at least hundreds of times, it might be a good idea to use the forum search (or google for that matter) to see what comes up. The whole topic is somewhat huge and can't be broken down in a few sentences. So you have to read and make up your mind yourself.
For example look what google brought up when feeding it with the search terms oracle forms apex (I agree these are very strange search terms to use when searching for information on oracle forms and apex, as search phrases like wrzlbrmpf are more likely to return anything):

  • Best program for web development?

    Hello everyone
I was just wondering what is in your opinion the best tool for creating web based applications (or even desktop based applications).
I have used Jdeveloper and Dreamweaver before and Jdeveloper had a lot more functionality out of the box but Dreamweaver seemed to give me more freedom (especially when working with the design part of my page).
Also Jdeveloper is a lot more complex but I think without fully understanding every aspect of it you can develop some pretty nifty applications. My main gripe is the deployment which has to have the same version of weblogic and Jdeveloper and you have to install Jdeveloper on the server (the weblogic server alone isn't enough) to support ADF etc.
I don't have experience in the other ones (NetBeans, Eclipse, Visual Studio etc)
So the question is which is the best for web development: Visual Studio, Jdeveloper, Apex, Dreamweaver, NetBeans, IntelliJ, Eclipse etc???

Dreamweaver is for the view part only, as in the (X)HTML and CSS stuff. You aren't going to do Java development using Dreamweaver.
There is no definitive answer to your question as you are basically asking this: what are my personal preferences? Nobody can answer that, only you. So there is nothing you can do but download everything you want to try and actually do that: try it out. See what feels good and what doesn't. Only then will you be able to make a choice.
All I can give you at this point in time is MY personal preferences, which do not have to be the same as yours at all. I use Eclipse for full blown JavaEE development because there are a few plugins available for Eclipse that are not available for Netbeans that I really like and use to good effects (mostly related to JBoss). For everything else however, which includes Swing development, game development and plain Java web development I use Netbeans because to me it is a more "polished" product where things such as Subversion and Maven integration just work without conflicts.

  • Migrating Oracle forms to APEX 3.2 without using Forms2XML tool

Can we migrate Oracle forms to APEX 3.2 without using Forms2XML tool?

    Hi Anoo,
In order to convert Oracle Forms to Oracle Application Express, using the Forms Conversion utility in Oracle APEX 3.2, you are required to convert your Forms Module (FMB) files to XML format, using the Oracle Forms to XML conversion tool, Forms2XML. I would recommend that you review Chapter 4 [Converting an Oracle Forms Application|http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14373_01/migrate.32/e13368/appmgr_forms.htm] , in the Oracle Application Express Migration Guide Release 3.2
If you have any further questions relating to the Oracle Forms to Oracle Application Express conversions, I would recommend that you refer to the [Application Express|http://forums.oracle.com/forums/forum.jspa?forumID=137] forum.
    I hope this helps.

  • Best book for Web Developer learning flash

I've gotten far on my own just using online tutorials and dinking around in Flash on my own but my boss(es) are starting to ask for more complex stuff that I simply can't learn by just piecing together my Flash education.
I know there's many, many books out there that will teach you Flash but can anyone recommend any particular one(s) that are more concentrated in creating Web elements as opposed to game or animation development?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

  • T440s for WEB developer

    Hello,
I am a web developer developing intensive web apps using Java, JavaScript, LifeRay, MySQL etc. It means I have many things going on on my laptop like:
    - IDE for editing the code
    - MySQL server
    - HTTP server to run developed apps
    - Many browser windows to test the app
I am looking for a main development machine that will be fast for my needs plus that can be used while commuting so portability is important for me.
440s looks like a good machine BUT I am not sure about low powered intel CPU.  This is exact model I am looking into: ThinkPad T440s 14" / i5-4210U 1.7 GHz / 8 Gt / 256 Gt SSD
1.7 GHz sounds very limiting. My current laptop has 2.5 GHz speed and browser windows are opened very fast. But if I try to slow down the CPU to 1.7 GHz similar to T440s browser windows starts to open with considerable annoying delays.
Ofcourse when slowing down CPU I also disable Turbo Boost.
Now the question: Is T440s good for web development with liferay etc? Will turbo boost solve the problem of slow opening chrome windows I experienced with another 1.7 GHz laptop? Generally, anyone have similar experience with this laptop? Any help will be appreciated.

  • The following form is meant for website developer for debugging purposes

Got a massege saying Form is meant for website developer for debuggin purposes.  Error occurred while processing request of life insurance through Acuuquote. Please help me. Thank you.

You are seeing the default CF error template as the result of an untrapped exception. You should use either the cferror tag in your application.cfm or the onerror event in your application.cfc and display your own user friendly page (as well as log and/or email an alert indicating the error so you can fix the actual error the triggered the error template). This may seem vague but error trapping is a complicated topic and this thread will get too long for anyone to read. Start by researching CFERROR and "coldfusion error handling"

  • Confused - jCreator or Netbeans for web developement

    Hello,
With the Visual Web Pack in Netbeans, what IDE should I be using for web development?
Is there an advantage to JCreator over Netbeans?
    Thanks
    Frank

VWP final release (or whatever they're calling it) is now available. The way I read it is this: VWP will have a niche for anyone who wants to develop the whole hog in one environment.
Creator has some ease of use features that will not be ported to VWP in the near future.
Not really mentioned is the fact that Creator can probably be faily easily aligned with the NB 5.5 code base now. (It's been stuck on the 4.1 or so branch apparently.) This may be one of the things to expect in the future if Sun chooses this route.

  • Call Oracle Help for Java in Oracle forms running in the web

    Hi, everyone,
We are developing a web-enabled Oracle database application
system. Oracle suggested us to use Oracle Help for Java(OHJ) to
create an online help system for the web environment. We
successfully created a OHJ program which can be independently.
But we still have no idea how to call this OHJ program from the
forms running in the web environment.
    Could anyone help us out?
    Thanks.

I would like to know if anyone has been able to do this too. Could someone respond if they have successfully gotten this to work?
    Thanks!!

  • Oracle*Terminal configuration problem for Web deployment

    Hello everyone!
I am a novice in using Oracle Forms 6i. I installed a Forms 6i Developer and Server at Windows 2000, the same machine where 8.1.6 Server is running (of cource I installed DB server and Developer in different Oracle_Home's).
Everything seems to be going well while trying "Client-Server" model. But I can not suceed in deploying forms to the Web. For example when I try "Run a form on the Web" standard option, after I try to run a standard test form (test.fmx), I get another Browser (IE5) window opened, then an applet loads and after that I get a Java-form inside of IE5 window with red bell picture and an error message: "Error while opening Oracle*Terminal file fmrweb."
Can anyone help me with an advise what to do in such situation?
    Thank you in advance
    Alexander Ilin

I can't answer the specific problem about the test, but the resource file is set up as follows:
The html file that invokes the Forms applet has a server argument showing where the terminal key-mapping file is stored on your forms server. In your case it appears to be looking for fmrweb.res and can't find it.
Take a look at the html and find the path it is using to look for it (I think you'll find this in the ServerArgs parameter). Then make sure the file is there on your Windows 2000 server.
If it isn't there, do a search for it in the server's Oracle_home directory, and then copy it to the directory where it is expecting it. Along with fmrweb.res, you can also use fmrpcweb.res - just replace fmrweb.res in your html file.
    Hope that helps.

  • Softwares and Licenses necessary to move Oracle forms and Reports to web

    Hi Experts,
We are planning to migrate to Oracle forms and Reports 10g (Developer Suite 10g) . Can someone help me to identify the software and licenses required to deploy forms and reports on the web. We are using Forms/reports 6i with 10g database. We already have 10g database license. We have 15-20 only concurrent users using the application.
Thanks for your help in advance.
    Biju

If you only need Forms and Reports you can use Forms & Reports Services Standalone version, dowloadable from http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/ias/htdocs/101202.html

  • Oracle Forms to Apex

We are considering migrating our Forms based applications to Oracle Apex. Does Apex offer all the capabilities that Oracle Forms offers ? What are the gotchas ?

I can add some detailed questions to this topic.
Apex does not have the forms execution model: enter_query, execute_query. If you have forms where you
have the user enter query values and then programmatically execute_query and check form_success you need to
find another way to do this. This is something I haven't totally worked out how to get the same functionality as
in forms where one might use the same form for insert/update and even delete. How can the forms execution
    model be implemented in apex?
I don't know if apex has the ability forms had to refer to items indirectly or generically. For example in forms one could reference the current item as :system.trigger_field . Contents of items could be generically copied:
    copy (name_in(v_source_item), v_dest_item);
Forms had scope for triggers. So one could put a trigger on a block and it could fire for every item. Adding to
this each trigger could be marked: before, after, or override. It is a very flexible system. Thus one could have a block level trigger fire for every item but also have a per item trigger that could fire before, after or instead of the block level trigger. I don't know if apex 4.0 dynamic actions are so flexible. For example, can a dynamic action be defined that would act on any item in a form without hard coding all the item names in it?
I do not know how many detail tables can be handled in apex. Whereas in forms one could have a lot. I have a form with 50 relationships off the master table :-) Probably can't do that in apex.
Similarly apex is limited in the number of fields that can comprise the primary key. I don't think it handles more
    than 2 fields.
