ORACLE_HOME_LISTNER is not SET dbstart error Oracle Enterprise Linux

ORACLE_HOME_LISTNER is not SET dbstart error Oracle Enterprise Linux
Hallo!I am a newbie in Oracle 10g having installed Oracle 10g in Oracle Enterprise Linux version 4 update 7.
I am trying to automate the startup of the Listener,Database,Enterprise Manager and isqlplus during boot.
I have tried running the dbstart script but an error resulted. After research,I found out that I am supposed to edit line 78 of the dbstart script from
ORACLE_HOME_LISTNER=/ade/vikrkuma_new/oracle
To
ORACLE_HOME_LISTNER=$ORACLE_HOME
Even after this, when I run the dbstart script,I receive the error below.
[root@joey-oel ~]# cd /u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/db/bin/
[root@joey-oel bin]# ./dbstart
ORACLE_HOME_LISTNER is not SET, unable to auto-start Oracle Net Listener
Processing Database instance "orcl": log file /u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/db/startup.log
When I view the log file startup.log, the information is as below

How do I resolve this?
Thanks.

    thx~

I do not think so.did you install the package, xinetd-2.3.14-10.el5.i386.rpm?
    # rpm -qlip xinetd-2.3.14-10.el5.i386.rpm
Summary : A secure replacement for inetd.
    Description :
Xinetd is a secure replacement for inetd, the Internet services
daemon. Xinetd provides access control for all services based on the
address of the remote host and/or on time of access and can prevent
denial-of-access attacks. Xinetd provides extensive logging, has no
limit on the number of server arguments, and lets you bind specific
services to specific IP addresses on your host machine. Each service
has its own specific configuration file for Xinetd; the files are
    located in the /etc/xinetd.d directory.

  • Configure dbstart script Oracle 10g Oracle Enterprise Linux

Hallo!I am a newbie in Oracle 10g having installed Oracle 10g in Oracle Enterprise Linux version 4 update 7.
Please give me a step-by step guide of how to configure dbstart script such that I can start the listener, the database ,Enterprise Manager and isqlplus automatically at boot time.
    Thanks.

dbstart does not work correctly in 10.2.0.4 and 10.2.0.5 (solaris 64bit) I did not try it in 10.2.0.1.
If you look at this thread you will see some discussion of the problem: "dbstart" command error in Oracle10g_Linux
I tried the fix from that thread and dbstart still does not work.
Both dbstart and dbshut are required to have the oracle_home path passed to them as the first argument per the 10gR2 Administrators reference for Unix systems.

This looks like a follow up of Re: Error after installing Oracle Enterprise Linux (Release 5) on Dell T 110
Can you give more details what you are trying to do or trying to accomplish. Where are you trying to ping to?
It could be that you have not defined your gateway or DNS server for name to IP mapping. What is the output of
    # netstat -rn
    # cat /etc/resolv.conf

    I am getting -
TNS-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error when I try to connect the Db installed on Oracle Enterprise Linux from other machines.
I made all the .bash_profile changes and created one shared listener also to check whether there is any problem with the dedicated default listener or its port.
    Please suggest the solution .

You need to open the firewall on OEL.
Edit the contents of /etc/sysconfig/iptables file. I added the line in bold:
    # Firewall configuration written by system-config-securitylevel
    # Manual customization of this file is not recommended.
    *filter
    :INPUT ACCEPT [0:0]
    :FORWARD ACCEPT [0:0]
    :OUTPUT ACCEPT [0:0]
    :RH-Firewall-1-INPUT - [0:0]
    -A INPUT -j RH-Firewall-1-INPUT
    -A FORWARD -j RH-Firewall-1-INPUT
    -A RH-Firewall-1-INPUT -i lo -j ACCEPT
    -A RH-Firewall-1-INPUT -p icmp --icmp-type any -j ACCEPT
    -A RH-Firewall-1-INPUT -p 50 -j ACCEPT
    -A RH-Firewall-1-INPUT -p 51 -j ACCEPT
    -A RH-Firewall-1-INPUT -p udp --dport 5353 -d 224.0.0.251 -j ACCEPT
    -A RH-Firewall-1-INPUT -p udp -m udp --dport 631 -j ACCEPT
    -A RH-Firewall-1-INPUT -p tcp -m tcp --dport 631 -j ACCEPT
    -A RH-Firewall-1-INPUT -m state --state ESTABLISHED,RELATED -j ACCEPT
    -A RH-Firewall-1-INPUT -m state state NEW -m tcp -p tcp dport 22 -j ACCEPT
    *-A RH-Firewall-1-INPUT -m state state NEW,ESTABLISHED,RELATED -m tcp -p tcp dport 1521 -j ACCEPT*
    -A RH-Firewall-1-INPUT -m state state NEW -m udp -p udp dport 137 -j ACCEPT
    -A RH-Firewall-1-INPUT -m state state NEW -m udp -p udp dport 138 -j ACCEPT
    -A RH-Firewall-1-INPUT -m state state NEW -m tcp -p tcp dport 139 -j ACCEPT
    -A RH-Firewall-1-INPUT -m state state NEW -m tcp -p tcp dport 445 -j ACCEPT
    -A RH-Firewall-1-INPUT -j REJECT --reject-with icmp-host-prohibited
    COMMIT
As you can see, my listener port is 1521.
Do not put that line after the line with REJECT keyword ( it won't work then) !
Save and close the file. Restart iptables:
    /etc/init.d/iptables restart
Now you can connect from the outside.
It works on my OEL version 5 update 4.

  • Sound not working in Sanray server 5.1 in Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.6

    Hi,
I am trying to get the sound working in a sunray server running in linux. I probe that the $AUDIODEV is working fine with the following command:
    # /usr/share/sounds/phone.wav > $AUDIODEV
But no application seems to use that device, I also verify the LD_PRELOAD variable and is OK.
I have been searching in the web and it seems to be a issue with the ALSA and OSS. The Linux environment use ALSA and everything is configure to use ALSA, but Sunray server use OSS and that is the pr oblem..... I found that it may be solved recompiling a esound RPM to disable ALSA and to enable OSS but I do not know how to do that in Oracle Enterprise Linux.
Does anyone knows about this issue?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards.
    Marco

I don't know if this will help but I'm posting it anyways, because it worked for me.
I called into apple support and explained my problem.
First thing he had me do was shut down my computer, unplug everything, take the battery out (i have a macbook pro) then with the battery out hold down the power button for "5 to 8 seconds".
After that I put the battery back in, plug the power cord and the tablet in, turn on the computer...
tablet still doesn't work right, but that's not to say that didn't help.
So I go to the applications folder, go to the pen tablet folder, and open up the file "Remove Pen Tablet".
First I do "Remove all Preference files"
than I do "Remove Tablet Software"
I restart my computer, open up the wacom driver that I downloaded from wacom's website. run the installation. And now my tablet is working just like it should.
I don't know if I'll have the problem where I'm going to have to reinstall the driver after every reboot, but as of now it's good.
For that first step I don't know what it's called, something like power rebooting or something, i only know how to do it for my computer not a desktop or anything
    hope that helps

    Hi all,
I have installed oracle 11g client on my machine. It connecting fine with the server throuhg sqlplus but when i connect my application that is developed in power builder, it prompts an errror message stated 'Oracle 11g or higher client is not installed or not set to Primary Oracle Home'. I have tried different solutions from different posts over the internet but colud not get fruitfull results.
Please help me out in this regard to continue...
    Thanks & Regards,

As already said, this looks like a powerbuilder issue, related to how it "finds" Oracle client/oci libraries.
Assuming this is on Windows, you could use Process Monitor from Sysinternals to watch what your app does (e.g. where it looks for dll's). It's a great troubleshooting tool: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896645
Google provides some results with similar issues. Maybe you have tried most of it already, but at least as a reference for others: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=powerbuilder+%22oracle11g+or+higher+client+is+not+installed%22

  • In Oracle Enterprise Linux (OEL) not able to redirect pvscan output.

    Hi,
I'm not able to redirect output of ovscan and vgscan commands to a file in Oracle Enterprise Linux.
    Please suggest something.
    Thanks
    Mayank

Thanks Paul for your valuable replies.
Well i'm using OEL 5.1(Oracle Enterprise Linux) 32 bit version.
    The commands i used were:
    # pvscan 1>output.txt 2>&1
    # vgscan 1>output.txt 2>&1
In both cases output.txt remains blank. But when I ran command
    # ls 1>output.txt 2>&1
output.txt has list of files in it.
Also in case of RHEL (Redhat Enterprise Linux), for both commands vgscan and pvscan output is getting redirected to the output.txt
So the problem is with OEL only. Please suggest something.

I'm facing the same error message while install Siebel 8.0 on OEL. But before I had this ksh problem, it complains about disc space first, and I actually has plenty of disk space under the directory (it needs only 0.7 G and I have 17G free). Anybody has encountered such problem before?

  • Oracle Enterprise Linux 6.1 Installation Fails during Disk Partitioning

    Hi,
I've tried to install Oracle Enterprise Linux 6.1 by creating a Virtual Machine using Oracle VM Virtual Box in my laptop with Window XP host OS (NTFS filesystem), by following the below steps.
    1) Installed Oracle VM Virtual Box
    2) Created a new Virtual machine using a virtual box by specifying the two .iso images i.e OracleLinux-R6-U1-Server-i386-dvd.iso and boot.iso as the boot device and by specifying the following Disk files (.vdi) as follows.
    2.1) Oracle_Enterprise_Linux_6_1_Root_Disk_1.vdi - For the / (i.e Root) partition - Dynamically expanded storage - 10 GB - ext4
    2.2) Oracle_Enterprise_Linux_6_1_Swap_Disk_1.vdi - For the swap partition - Dynamically expanded storage - 10 GB - swap
    2.3) Oracle_Enterprise_Linux_6_1_User_Disk_1.vdi - For the /usr partition - Dynamically expanded storage - 20 GB - ext4
    2.4) Oracle_Enterprise_Linux_6_1_Home_Disk_1.vdi - For the /home partition - Dynamically expanded storage - 10 GB - ext4
But while installing OEL 6.1 after specifying the partitions, the installer get hung and throws an error as bug while creating the ext4 filesystem on /dev/sda1.
I tried to specify the default 8 GB for all the above four partitions, the installer successfully continues without any issues. But if i specify any partition more than 8 GB, it fails.
Is there anyway I can solve this problem by creating the above specified partitions with the above size ? Why does it fail if i specify any size more than 8 GB ?
    Thanks
    Harish

8 GB is a common limit for systems were the boot loader or system BIOS imposes an addressable space limit for the boot partition. In such situations, the system boot partition has to fit within the first 8 GB physical boundary of the harddrive.
Your setup seems a bit unusual. Why do you create separate disks for each Linux partition?
Normally the Linux installer creates necessary partitions on the disk, including a /boot partition that is usually only 100 MB in size.
What are you doing with boot.iso? You should be able to start the system from the main installation DVD or .iso image. You might also want to install x86_64 Linux, unless your hardware is really very old and does not support the 64-bit extension. You can run 32-bit software on a n 64-bit OS, but not the other way around and you will limit your software to 32-bit only.
