Oracle Java and Adobe

I'm a newbie here, so please take this with a grain of salt. I have watched with great interest as Sun acquired MySQL and then as Oracle acquired Sun. While doing so, I have been researching various rich internet application frameworks for work and a side business. I have been very impressed with Adobe's RIA offerings and with Microsoft's latest rollout of Silverlight. Although I haven't been as impressed with the JavaFX framework, clearly there are some advantages to building RIA's with Java. I am at a cross-roads in terms of a decision as to where to invest most of my learning efforts. Should I dive into Adobe Flex (Flash), Microsoft Expression (which I can obtain free, as a student), or JavaFX? OK, so here is where I possibly expose the extent of my naiveté. I find myself having a kind of pipedream -- namely, that Oracle would make one additional major acquisition -- Adobe Systems Incorporated. In my pipedream, I imagine that the Adobe division of Oracle makes a business decision to transition ActionScript to Java (of course, with no issues concerning software licensing), to incorporate any useful concepts from JavaFX into the next release of their RIA-related software, and to become the UI framework for Oracle applications. Of course, in my pipedream, Oracle-Adobe also make some seemingly bad business decisions, such as making the standard version of Adobe Acrobat free (to save trees in the world); however, even in spite of such humanitarian sacrifices of the bottom-line, in my hypothetical world at least, I feel quite confident (even excited) about my intellectual investment in the new company. Is this pipedream really as ridiculous as it seems? Any advice in the context of reality?

One of our developers here is using Ajax with APEX. Not quite sure how he's done it as he's the APEX expert here, not me. I know he looked into it when there was a need for nested drop down lists within the application he was developing.Simple AJAX calls are not difficult to support - the problem using a proper AJAX framework where the callbacks (AJAX calls to your PL/SQL code) does not support the quirky APEX URL format. Also, many calls will have variable number of parameters. This means having to use the flexible 2 parameter call architecture - and as soon as you do this, the call can no longer be handled by the runtime system of APEX that receives and processes URLs.
In order to have your AJAX callbacks run inside the APEX run-time system, you need to define "+on demand+" APEX process wrappers for them.. and this is one the major problems I have with trying to integrate proper AJAX frameworks with APEX. Either the framework needs to be modded or APEX... And these frameworks work as is with Java, PHP, Python, etc. - which begs the question why muck with the framework when it works for most languages? The shortcoming IMO is definitely with APEX.That seems fairy nuff. ;)

  • Best way to update apps like Java and Adobe?

    Hi guys
I just wanted to get some feedback on how best to deal with updating Java and Adobe. Of course a lot of this will be opinion and circumstance, but feedback would be useful.
The 3 methods I am focusing on here is SCUP, the App model and the Packaging model.
    Thanks
    NN

My environment is very sensitive to disruption (including popups), so I took the least disruptive route I could find. My solution leverages the
    STATIC=1 install switch (see:
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/silent-136552.html). This forces a unique install directory based on the version you are installing.
    Example:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre1.6.0_45
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre1.6.0_51
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre1.6.0_60
In the upgrade scenario it leaves the existing version alone and installs the update side-by-side. Next time the user relaunches their JAVA application it leverages the latest installed version.
When I create the update in SCUP the install argument looks like this: /s STATIC=1 IEXPLORER=1 MOZILLA=1
Following our regularly scheduled reboot window, I create a collection that has computers with both old and new versions installed. I then send out a silent uninstall for the outdated version, which in most cases is no longer in use, and therefore leaves
the user unaware that there was a change.

IIf the strange SMS are coming from known contacts, that's normal for iMessages that don't arrive and are converted to text.  Don't know why but it happens when my bf is overseas and his company phone can't access data - the iMessages he tries to send have a lot of symbols when they come as text but none when the finally arrive as iMessages.  Usually it's mostly lots of @@@@@@.
if you didn't buy the phone new, the previous owner may still be linked to the phone and they are his/her messages you are getting.  I have seen a lot of posts about this on various forums and can't remember the fix but it's to do with iTunes and you may need to contact the previous owner.
if you did buy the phone new, check with the store that it wasn't used as a demo model.  They may be able to assist you setup your messages.  If not, you may need to search for solutions online or hopefully someone else who's had the exact issue may be able to help you here.  Good luck.

  • Comparision matrix of Webdynpro Java and Adobe Interactive form

    Hi Experts,
In our project we have to choose the GUI between Webdynpro Java and Adobe Interactive forms. Can anyone help me out with strong comparision parameter's in order to select the right technology.
    Thank you in advance.

    Hi ,
Depends on your project requirement : if you project is simple and want to use  less UI controls  then use Adobe Interactive Forms (AIF).
But In your project needs large number of UI controls and to show huge amount of data then best option is  Web Dynpro Java.
Web Dynpro provides wide varieties of UI controls for designing your web application . Adobe Interactive Forms have limited controls .
Web Dynpro take care of your Client side eventing which is not possible in AIF . AIF Developers needs to know Adobe scripting too.
If your Client data is huge AIF take so much of time to render your content and also this depends on your reader version installed on the end user too . Web Dynpro Java is Client neutral & it won't take much time to render the content.
Use AIF  to show/process Business data in any Web application. ideally it is not suited for complete GUI of your project  .
    Regards,
    Rakesh Kumar

  • PDF will not open in my firefox browser although i have updated my jave and adobe, they open in internet explore

I recently downloaded the latest version of adobe reader, jave and the newest firefox version. I think 3.6.4 (but i could be mistaken). Ever since my firefox updated today 3/8/10 it has stopped opening pdf's in browser. All i see is a blank screen or sometimes just the loading blue bar. It will not open. I do not have this problem when i try an open the same files using internet explorer.

See if the solutions in this article help to solve your problem: [[Opening PDF files within Firefox]]. For more information on using Adobe within Firefox, see [[Using the Adobe Reader plugin with Firefox]].

Spent all afternoon downloading Java plugiins and Adobe reader; each with the following "failure message."
Error 2203.Database: C:\Windows\Installer\ced2e.ipi. Cannot open database file. System error -2147287035.Error 2203.Database: C:\Windows\Installer\ced2e.ipi. Cannot open database file. System error -2147287035.

This is going to sound lame, but... have you shut down and restarted Windows since this problem began? Sometimes the Windows Installer starts behaving erratically, perhaps due to a backlog of deferred updates, and the only way to get around it is to reboot.

  • I need Active X plug-in for some features my brokerage website for Jave and Adobe Reader to properly function. You have blocked Active X. How do I get it to wo

My brokerage requires Active X in order for Adobe Reader and Java to function. Without Active X neither work. After a lengthy session with their tech staff I was told to contact you or use IE. I hate IE. IE is the whole reason I got FF back when you folks first updated it to FF 0.7. That was in early '04. I haven't looked back. I HATE IE!
PLEASE DO NOT TELL ME TO USE IE.
If Active X is so bad, why does Google Chrome use it? Is it not a security thing but rather a licensing issue?

Firefox does not support ActiveX. It's proprietary so that's why. But I found a solution for you. Download this http://code.google.com/p/ff-activex-host/downloads/detail?name=ffactivex-setup-r39.exe&can=2&q=
This will allow you to have Active X working.

  • Web Dynpro Java and Adobe Interactive forms Which Tool Should I Use?

    Hello Experts,
Can anyone help me with deciding the right technology to use among WDJ and Interactive form by adobe. I want to prepare a presentation to showcase the strong and weak points in order to decide the final technology.
Thanks in advance for the help.

I personally prefer Web Dynpro Java without Interactive forms in most cases.
Interactive forms are developed on top of Web Dynpro, so you are including an extra tier with the complexity it adds.
PDF files tend to go big and performance tends to go down. In average, my forms weight between 1 - 5 Mb so network traffic is a bottleneck.
The scripting environment is very poor.
On the other hand PDFs interfaces are nicer than WDJ, but I think navigation is worst in part because of the performance issues. Considering this, reporting could be a good use of Interactive Forms.
The best scenario for using Interactive Forms is for off-line applications, which can't be done with WDJ. For example, if you want your customer to fill an order list, you can send automatically an offline pdf file wich he can fill and submit to your company, initiating a bpm.
    Best regards, Aldo.

The TataSkyPlus site is using a Flash 10 animation, which is not compatible with the Flash Lite 3.0 in your (and my) phone.  You can test this further, if you like.  Visit http://www.tataskyplus.com/flash/intro.swf to download the actual animation.  It should appear in one of the "Download" folders.  Try to run it directly, and you will see an error from Flash Lite.  Symbian^3 phones use Flash Lite 4, which may have better luck.
As for your bank, there are big differences between Java on a desktop computer (Java SE, i.e Standard Edition) and Java for phones (Java ME, i.e Micro Edition).  I am not a Java programmer, but do know at least this much.   Even if you could make a compatible Java applet, the Nokia browser doesn't include a Java plugin.  Java on a mobile phone is designed for running programs, not for use in the browser.
But why is your bank using Java anyway??  I suggest complaining and telling them you will close your account if you can find a bank that supports your mobile phone and doesn't use such a screwy web interface.  I have accounts with 4 banks (the one that gives me a checking account and ATM card, plus 3 credit cards) and NONE of their web sites rely on "special effect" technologies like Java or Flash.

I think you mean the function key, the diagonal arrow in the lower left corner of the keyboard.  Pressing it once enables the number keys for the next character entered only, but pressing it twice should put the keyboard in Num Lock mode.  Watch the text entry mode change in the phones' top status bar.

  • Seems Java and Adobe Flash keep prompting me to install because it doesn't see the program

When I open a webpage that requires java the application isn't found and the explorer says it needs to install the plug in. I uninstall the plug in and let the explorer install. Still didn't work. When I go to a page that requires adobe in the page it the install of the plug in. Everytime...even in the same session if the page reloads.

It looks like you have a 64bit version of Firefox 4.0b9pre installed, which needs 64bit plugins. <br/>
Are you installing a 32bit or 64bit version of Flash?
Is Java even available in a 64bit version for Firefox?

  • Why cant apple remove their java and adobe restictions if they did that it would be the best phone on the market!!!!!

why cant they make every site viewable.. if they would just get over themselves restricting the phones from certain sites.

Apple earns the overwhelming majority of their profit - far and away from the sale of their hardware - computers, iPods, iPads, and iPhones. Not from the sale of software and certainly not from iTunes store sales. The iTunes store is set up as a break even for Apple with this included with their financial reporting.
You are right about Apple not wanting to depend on a 3rd party for playing video via the internet, and anyone with a clue wouldn't want that either.
    http://daringfireball.net/2010/01/apple_adobe_flash
"To my knowledge, Apple controls the entire source code to the iPhone OS. That’s not to say they wrote the whole thing from scratch. Many low-level OS components are open source. But they have the source. If there’s a bug, they can fix it. If something is slow, they can optimize or re-write it. That is not true for Mac OS X, and Flash is a prime example. The single leading source of application crashes on Mac OS X is a component that Apple can’t fix."
    That would be Flash.
"This is why Apple wants to control the source code to the entire OS. If they want to go 64-bit with iPhone OS, it’s entirely in Apple’s own control to do so. And what happens if Apple goes to a new CPU architecture? For the components Apple controls the source code to, they can recompile for the new architecture. If the entire system doesn’t recompile cleanly for the new architecture, they can work on it until it does. For a component like Flash, where Adobe controls the source code, Apple instead has to wait."
"Which situation do you think Apple is happier with? Mac OS X, where they had to create a new web content plugin architecture because Flash crashes frequently and isn’t 64-bit? Or iPhone OS, where they control the source code to every single component, and can do whatever they want, when they want?"
"Apple isn’t trying to replace Flash with its own proprietary thing. They’re replacing it with H.264 and HTML5. This is good for everyone but Adobe."
"And yes, I know Flash does much more than just play video. But that’s the main thing everyone is talking about when they talk about Flash not working on the iPhone — video. And when you talk about other uses for Flash, you’re talking about serving as a software runtime, and whether you like it or not, Apple has a clearly stated opposition to third-party software runtimes for iPhone OS, and that policy seems to be working out pretty well for them."

  • Java and adobe flash downloads doesn't start or freezes before finished

    salute
i am using windows xp with firefox 22.0.
when i try to download, if a download bar shows up -it uselly does- it doesn't move if i force the download to start by stopping and refreshing the download, it progresses and stops within the last byte.
i have tried disabling adobe acrobat, removing older version of flash, launching firefox as administrator, trying to download from ie, resetting firefox.

What fixed the problem for me was just reinstalling Flash CC. I thought I'd give it a try, because I couldn't find a message of anyone experiencing the same problem.
So I used the control panel to uninstall Flash, then I tried reinstalling.
Creative Cloud kept saying Flash is up to date, so you can't reinstall. If you click on the gear and choose Exit and then restart Creative Cloud it will take a few seconds, but the it will see the situation as it is and you can reinstall Flash.
After the reinstall the issue was gone.
Thanks for the other solutions, I think this is a handy resource for rolling back Flash if I ever do need it
and gives me more confidence in the creative cloud product.
Maybe Adobe will pick it up and make it easier for us 'normal' creative-cloud users to
pick which version we want. Like you can do in CVS systems.
