Oracle log files
Besides "alert" and "trace" log in $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/log/ , is there any other log files which can be used to investigate oracle problem (server crash, very slow performance, etc.) ?
Is there any way to increase the detail of this logs for debugging purposes ?
Hi,
There are a lot of oracle tools to generate different levels of trace output, for session, application, etc.. but to start off, I'd search for "trace" or "trace file" in the search box of the documentation for your particular database release. There are also init params associated w/ different levels of stats generations, just issue "show parameter trace" once connected to your database, and also "show parameter timed" to see the params/values on your database. I use these as keywords to search on later. Another useful tool to look at for more trace generation is the Enterprise Manager -- more helpful if on a later release... still, all this generates more "trace" files...

Could anybody update where can we find oracle log files which stores log-in details (specially erros) when log thro' SQLPlus or OEM
and oracle service issue logs.

ShabarHi,
If you are encountring any network related errors you can find the errors in sqlnet.log (<<ORACLE_HOME>>\NETWORK\LOG).
But for program related errors, you have spool the output to a text file manually.
Eg:
SQL>spool logfile.txt
SQL> select * fromtab;
SQL> spool off
In this example, the output will be saved in logfile.txt.

How to send email(oracle log files) from RHEL AS 3 to windows exchange?
Friends,
my pc : winxp sp2
database server --- 9iR2 in RHEL AS 3
I have to send a daily report to my email from my database server.
when i try the below command nothing is coming.
[oracle@xx oracle]$ echo "message" | mail -s "subject" [email protected]
[oracle@xx oracle]$can anybody help me in this regarding?
thanksI think......in RHEL AS 3 ...... it will be different to edit the sendmail.mc file
because when enter
dnl define('SMART_HOST','mail.nhm.com.sa')dnlit becomes same as the commented line.
if i enter like below....
define('SMART_HOST','mail.nhm.com.sa')dnlits like a working command line.
i think to comment a line in .mc file we have to enter "dnl" instead of "#"
correct me if i am wrong...
but i did what you said....
[root@xx root]# make
make: *** No targets specified and no makefile found. Stop.
[root@xx root]# make install
make: *** No rule to make target `install'. Stop.what to do now?

That is the system log. Other logs are stored in the database (transaction SLG1).

I suggest you read the installation guides as well as getting an Oracle class or use the 2 day DBA course at

Oracle 8 ver 8.1.7 log file location
Dear all
Do you know where is the Oracle log file location in OpenVMS platform? Please advice. Thanks8i is no longer available to download, it is only available at the oracle intranet under explicit request. I advise you to ask your Oracle representative for a copy of 8i. Here in the forum I suggest you to post a new thread at the download forum, and let people there know you want to have 8i for downloading at otn.
I have seen several, certainly a lot of requests of 8i media, here in the forum, but not on the download section. I encourage you to let people who is monitoring this site to let them know your request.

Can we store ORACLE DATA and LOG files in seperate file system
I am installing NW2004s in HP UNIX Server with Oracle database
I have selected the option as custom
I would want the SAP datafiles to be stored in /sapdata file system
Log files to be stored in /oraclelog file system
While installation SAP is just asking me for the location of SAP data files. It is not asking me for the location of the log files.
(It is asking me for the location of control files)
Hence as per my understanding the oracle log files can be saved only in the same directory as oracle Data file.
Please confirmI have heard reports of people that made some kind of synchronization between AD and OID, but I have no hands on experience with this. There are some notes on metalink that describe the process, but I try to stay away from AD as far as possible (I usually work on unix or linux environments and those don't really mix with AD).

Cannot connect to database because log file is deleted
Greetings,
I just recently cleaned up some junk files from my PC and didn't realize that an oracle log file got deleted. Therefore when I try to connect to the database I got the following error:
ORA-01033: ORACLE initialization or shutdown in progress
From sql plus, I try to shutdown and startup the database so that I know what kind of file that got deleted. So, how can I fix the problem?
regards,
valerie

View log file via third party tool
Hi All,
Using Oracle EBS 11.5.10.2
Database 10g
How can I show the oracle log file through third party tool like Java.
PS
Edited by: PS on May 28, 2012 9:21 AMHi,
Once a concurrent request is completed, Log and Output file is created and details can be fetched using below query,
SELECT OUTFILE_NAME,LOGFILE_NAME
FROM fnd_concurrent_requests
WHERE request_id = <Your Request ID>
This will tell you the file name along with completed path.
You can copy this files to other locations and need third party tool to read this files.
I hope this helps, how to view log files from other tools.

Checkpoint not complete in alert log file Oracle 11gR2 RAC
Hi,
I found checkpoint not complete in alert log file, almost every 3 seconds .
In metalink i saw for this error, archive_lag_target=0, already this value was set to 0 in my database.
We have 7 redo log groups for each instance, each group is of two redo log files, each file size is 50m.
To avoid this error what i need to do..........
please help me..................When you "checkpoint not complete" messages in your alert log this normally means your online redo logs are defined too small to handle the load and you have filled and need to switch to a new online redo log before the checkpoint triggered by the previous log switch has been completed.
Increasing your online redo log size is normally the fix for this.

Oracle Enterprise Manager 11g Database Control log file location
Any one knows where the log file is for Oracle Enterprise Manager 11g Database Control. I am trying to set up EUS proxy authentication and running into issues when trying to search proxy user in my DB. The search returns no results and I am not sure where to look for. Please not my setup does work for EUS with shared or exclusive schema. I need to use Oracle DB proxy authentication for my application and that would need a setup of EUS with proxy permissions so please advice if you know where the log file is for Oracle Enterprise Manager 11g Database Control or if there is any logging I can turn on to see what search parameters are passed from Oracle Enterprise Manager 11g Database Control to my DB by using DB audit etc.
Thanks,Be patient...wait for report.
If after some time report does not appear, go to Advisor Central and find it there.

Oracle 10g R2 Database Redo Log Files
I had 3 redo log files, each of size 50 MB. i added 3 more redo log files, each of size 250 MB.
Database is running in archive mode, files are generating with different sizes like 44 MB and 240 MB, i need to know is this harm for database or not?
to make all archive redo log files generation of equal size what should i do?
Please guideWaheed,
When the redo log switch willbe happening, oracle would be asking archiver to log that into the archive file.So in case you have any parameters set to make the switch happen at certain time, depending on the activity of teh database, the archive file size may vary. There is no harm wit the different sizes of the files. What matters is the transaction informaiton contained in them not their size.
to make all archive redo log files generation of equal size what should i do?
As mentioned by Syed, you can make the switch happen at a defined interval which will not ensure but still will be a step to make the archive files of the same size. But I shall say you should bother more about making sure that the files are available rather than their size.
