Oracle Migration with OS.

Dears,
We have inhouse develoed ERP in following:
Backend : Oracle 8i,           Frontend : Forms/Reports 6i
Server OS : Windows Server 2003, Clinets OS : Windows XP
Now, we are migrating our OS to following
Server OS: Windows Server 2012, Client OS : Windows 8
So, please guide me which possible Oracle version we should use for the
above mentioned OS i.e.
Windows Server 2012 with Windows 8
Thnx with Regards,
Sukhvinder Singh.

Windows Server 2012 with Windows 8Server 2012 and Windows 8? At the moment there is nothing certified with this OS, so the most apropriate advice would be "use the latetest version of everything with the latest patches" (db 11gR2, forms 11g) as there is a possibility that someday there will be certifications for this OS. When and if is up to oracle.
I wouldn't go for this combo, first because it is not certified and second as a personal note because I installed Windows 8 last weekend on my machine because my Windows7 HD crashed and I felt funny and installed Windows 8 instead...The adventure was...well...without writing down a lot of badwords it's hard to explain. To sum it up I'll get rid of it the next few days, and it will never ever be installed on one of my machines again.

I'm trying to migrate a Sql Server 2k database to an Oracle 8i schema using OMWB. After using BCP to collect metadata information on the source database, I tried to capture the source data model and got a "Capture aborted" message on the progress screen (even though then it appears a dialog window reporting "0 errors and 0 warnings", funny!). • Error after Oracle Migration from DMTS into LMTS

    Hello ,
I'm sorry, I posted my question again from ABAP General into this forum ABAP Dictionary. I think that here someone can help me in order to proceed with my job in the Development and in production system.
We are using SAP R/3 4.6C, with SAP kernel 2271, Oracle 9.2.0.5 and HP-UX 11.23
I did the Oracle migration from dictionary into locally managed tablespaces on the QTS system (and before that the same migration on a separate system as a copy from production):
    1. export data and index tablespace with Oracle export command (exp: for PSAPCLUD and PSAPCLUI)
    2. import into file for creation of indexes
    3. Drop the data and corresponding index tablesspace with brtools - brspace
    4. recreate the tablespaces with sapdba or with sqlplus (using the ddl scripts created before dropping the tablespaces) - - I think is my problem
    5. import the data with Oracle import command
    6. import the indexes from the previously created sql file
    7. check optimizer statistics, analyze and next extents
    But there is one problem.
Because I have also used the sapdba and ddl sql for recreating the tablespaces, I didn't specify the SAP data class for the newly created tablespace.
And in the tables TAORA, IAORA and DDART (what is very unclear for me) 3 rows missing for the USER1, TEMP and ??? data class.
If you try to import some transport in the corresponding tablespace which data class is missing an error ocur.
I have read the Note 646681 - Reorganizing tables with BRSPACE, and I saw the part: If the <reorg_tsp> tablespace contains any of the following tables: SDBAH,SDBAD,DBAML,DBATL,MLICHECK,TGORA,IGORA,TSORA,TAORA, IAORA,SVERS,DD02L,DD09L,DDNTT,DDART,DARTT or SAPLIKEY (SAPLIKEY is only available in NetWeaver 2004s or higher), then you should move them to the tablespace <aux_tsp> by online reorganization using BRSPACE:
    brspace -f tbreorg -t <table_list> -n <aux_tsp>
Do you have the same problem?
Do you know how I can solve the problem now after the hole migration was done?
How can I dedicate tablespace data class?
Is it enought to just enter the same rows into the TAORA, IAORA and DDART?
    Thanks,
    Many regards,
    Ruzica

Apparently you are trying to mix 32-bit code and 64-bit code. You must ensure that the 32-bit or 64-bit option is used consistently on every command, compiling and linking. The form of the option can depend on the version of the C compiler you are using, and whether you are on an x86 or sparc system. Consult the Pro*C and C compiler documentation.

  • DB2 8.1 to Oracle 11g with SQL Developer 3.0

    Hi,
I started migrating my DB2 8.1 to Oracle 11g, with SQL Developer 3.0
Basically, I need to migrate TABLES.
    I followed these steps:
    1) I created a new Oracle database, tablespaces, users, etc.
    2) Then, I created both (DB2 and Oracle) connections into SQL Developer 3.0. All works fine.
    3) I start capturing one table with the "Copy to Oracle" feature. Done with no errors.
But when I compare the table structure, I see the following problems in Oracle:
    a) All fields are NULLABLE = YES. SQL Developer show this field property correctly in DB2: NULLABLE = NO, but not migrated the same!
SOLUTION: All I want is that SQL Developer simply migrating the same value who I have in the DB2. But how?
    b) In DB2 I have one field property called COLUM DEFAULT. In Oracle this property is called DATA_DEFAULT. The SQL Developer show this field property correctly for the DB2 tables (for example: 0.0, ' ', etc), but don't migrated the same value! All fields are configured to DATA_DEFAULT = NULL.
SOLUTION: I think this occurs because NULLABLE is migrated with the value YES. Well, all I need is the same above...
NOTE: I tested the SWISSQL DATA MIGRATION software, and it works fine. All tables, field properties and data are migrated sucessfull. But this program is trial version!
Well, I think all of this are BUGS into SQL Developer.
    Please, anyone to help me?
    Regards,
    Ylram

    Welcome to the forum!

I just did right click in the procedure body and found [Debug, Compile for Debug, Compile, Run].
    >
You listed a bunch of things but you didn't say what steps you actually performed and what the result was.
Did you 'Compile'the procedure? until you compile the procedure you can't debug it.
I just created a new procedure and when I select the body it displays in the 'Code' window on the right. But the 'Debug' icon is not enabled because the procedure was not compiled for debug.
When I compile it for debug the 'Debug' icon is now enabled.

  • Sybase NULL to Oracle - Error with Fail

    Hi,
We are doing migration from Sybase 12 to oracle 9i using Oracle Migration Work Bench . Though we are able to successfully perform the migration , with all object count matching once migrated. When we launch our peoplesoft application on top of the migrated database and start browsing thru it, it throws up error like “Error: PS_ABSENCE_HIST - Alter failed due to an unknown column type (CLOB) found for field COMMENTS. (76,22)”. Though the actual datatype value of this column in Sybase is text and when we try to migrate it defaults to CLOB.
The same we try to migrate thru peoplesoft provided tool datamover, the column datatype is LONG. But now we mapped the datatype value of text to long and started migrating . At this point, where Sybase value is NULL, Oracle Migration Work Bench is not able to insert data for such value.
Any idea of how to resolve this issue.
    [email protected]

    venuhi,
At this point, where Sybase value is NULL, Oracle Migration Work Bench is not able to insert data for such value. There is a difference between sybase and oracle in terms with dealing with nulls, in oracle an empty string is null. The workbench can be configured to put a string in place of a null, such as a single space.
What specifically is going wrong for you in your use of the workbench, is it replacing null with a single space, or is the tool stopping, and if the tool is stopping, what is the output of the error on the screen and the results of Error.log file. Enough details should be available to write a reproducible testcase and log a bug.

  • Data moving between Oracle 10g with CLOB fields

    Hi all,
I have a trouble in migrate data between Oracle 10g with different platform. The worst thing is that I don't have a DBA account for the DB importing data. I think I can't use IMP or IMPDP in this way. So I seek help from sql developer, but it seems having another problem with CLOB data moving.
Re: EA2 : SQL Developer 1.5 : export data CLOB columns
in the thread, I found someone wrote this:
    - SQL Developer v1.5 EA2 - exports first 4000 chars (which is anyway too small for me, because my CLOBs are larger - if they were smaller, I would have made them VARCHAR2s instead!).
    I would like to ask:
1, What SQL Developer v1.5 EA2 is? Is it the Data Modeling one?
2, How to export table data with CLOB with SQL Developer v1.5 EA2? Since 4000 chars is enough for me to use.
OR any other method to export CLOB but not IMP / IMPDP ?
Now I am using the spool of sqlplus to export CLOB.
    Many thanks,

    1. The EAs are Early Adapters, betas, so you should expect the same behaviour from the latest 1.5.4 production release.
    2. Exports can be done with the Database Export tool, through the table's context menu in the navigator tree or the result grid's context menu.
    Have fun,
    K.

  • SQL SErver to Oracle Migration Issue

    Hi All,
I am facing a problem migrating from SQL Server2005 to Oracle 11g
The Capture doesnt capture all the objects, it is capturing only one table from SQL SErver( IThas close to 300 Objects)
When we try to capture the SQL Server Objects we are getting a JDBC access Error,
This is the exact error we are getting,
"Error while registering Oracle JDBC Diagnosability MBean"
The version of SQL Server is 2005, and the version of Oracle is Oracle 11g, With the latest Download of SQL Developer.
Are there any work arounds for this problem.
    Thanks in Advance

    Which driver are you using?
    We test using JTDS http://jtds.sourceforge.net/
Looks like others have got this connecting to Oracle 11g.
Error while registering Oracle JDBC Diagnosability MBean - version 1.2.1
In which case its not the problem of the 3rd party driver.
This thread seems to suggest that its an Oracle JDBC problem. It might be rectified by downloading the latest driver from otn.
Re: SEVERE: Error while registering Oracle JDBC Diagnosability MBean
    I hope this helps

  • Access 2003 to Oracle Migration Queries

    Hi Experts,
I have taken up a project to migrate Access 2003 application to Oracle 9i.The Forms and Reports will continue to run in Access 2003 with Oracle 9i database. I decide to use Oracle Migration workbench for the migration purpose. What I think is the back-end i.e. database and queries will be automatically migrated to Oracle 9i but I'm not sure about the front end application.
Do I need to change front end application to point to database in Oracle 9i or OMW will do that itself.I am also confused with lots of queries that reside in current Access database. I presume these queries will be converted to Oracle procedures/views without any manual intervention but will the front-end application also be modified automatically to point to those stored procedures/views. Otherwise an extensive code change will be required which may result in huge cost.
Currently the Access application is not using any ODBC DSN as it gets connected to the database automatically. Should the database connection be changed to use DSN prior to Migration?
One more thing, the application is using single-level linked table. Will the linked table get automatically converted and connected or I need to do anything?
Could anyone help me in this issue by giving some ideas so I can manage the job efficiently and make proper planning before plunging into the real work.
    Thanks & Regards
    S C

The Migration Workbench will modify the Access mdb file as part of the migration if you request it, to create the necessary link tables to oracle, it will use an ODBC DSN to do this. This is explained in our documentation. This should be transparent.
However for complex application, you often have a tuning exercise, to ensure that the jet engine does the "right" thing, and there changes are required, e.g. a two way join, you would want that to happen on the server and not done on the client. This would be same tuning exercise, if the back end was SQL Server.
In the latest release of the Access plugin, we did a better job migrating queries to views, but you need to plug this into your code.
Yes, the exporter should extract the information about the linked table, assuming the link is valid at the time of extraction.

    Hi
We are migrating our Oracle E-business suite from IBM Power 5 AIX 6.1. to OVM Intel (x86_64) bit, we have tested the migration in our test environment. Hi Sharukh,
Virtualization of course the trend in modern era, and I personally advice you to have a thorough testing on performance and specifically simulate workloads and check the behavior. I don't personally go on to support Virtualization on Production environment as it incurs additional cost like CPU usage, memory usage borrowed by other environment being virtualized. And as it does not directly work with the hardware. May be some will be against this point, but I see as if it incurs additional resources. Being said this, I am not completely against Virtualizationas long as it is not a heavy 24/7 environment. I would go on to support the ideology, saying it's best to choose the right technology to right environment.

    Hello Venkateswaran,
We are right now developing a plugin as part of the Oracle
Migration Workbecnh to migrate the databse scheme and data from
SQL Anywhere database (nothing but the earlier Watcom Database
Engine) to Oracle 8i/Oracle 8i Lite. This plug-in will be in beta
sometime in the 2nd week of September.
This plug-in will allow you to migrate the Schema and the data to
Oracle 8i/Oracle 8i Lite. It is possible to keep the front-end in
PowerBuilder and connect to Oracle 8i databse.
However, I'm not sure of the availability of connectivity drivers
between PowerBuilder 4.0 and Oracle 8i. I know there are drivers
for earlier releases of oracle (7.x). I can check that out and
    let you know.

  • Queries regarding DB2 to Oracle migration

    Hi,
I am new to working on Oracle Migration Workbench and DB2. We are evaluating Oracle Migration Workbench (OMWB )for migrating our client's database which is on DB2 Version 5 Release 2 to Oracle. Request clarifications on below listed questions:
1/ Is OMWB capable of migrating database which is on DB2 Version 5 Release 2 to Oracle?
2/ When I connected to the AS/400 system using Capture Wizard, the system just stays on the Source Database Window with the message "Capturing Source Database..." for an unusually long time. Is there anyway to figureout if the process is going on fine or if there is an issue?
    Thank you.

To answer you first question, we don't support that version. You will need to seek an alternative tool, like for example SQL Ways from Ispirer

No plans for DB2 V8 support in the short term. The plugins are hardwired to work against the version they are built against, so it won't work with V7. There are other alternatives out there. One example would be from Ispirer: http://www.ispirer.com/products/ or

[I assume 'so it won't work with V7' in the source post should read 'so the db2 v7 plugin will not work with anything other than db2 v7']
