Oracle Patch 19 11G question

Thank You for taking my question! I am applying PSU patch 19 for 11.1.0.7 on windows 2008.
I applied the patch successfully but the very last statement (3.3.8) shown below has me puzzled.
I thought any applied patches would automatically get applied to any new databases instances in my patched oracle home. Meaning, I could apply the patch and catcpu.sql to TEST instances, delete the database TEST instance, create a new database instances called TEST2 and not have to apply any catcpu.sql patch file to TEST2.
Is this cpu patch unique or is this normal?
Thanks very much for your comments!

3.3.8 Post Installation Instructions for Databases Created or Upgraded after Installation of Bundle Patch19 in the Oracle Home
These instructions are for both RAC environments and non-RAC environments when a database is created or upgraded after the installation of Bundle Patch19.
You must execute the steps in Section 3.3.7.1, "Loading Modified .sql Files into the Database" and Section 3.3.7.2, "Recompiling Views in the Database" for any new database that was created by any of the following methods:
•     Using DBCA (Database Configuration Assistant) to select a sample database (General, Data Warehouse, Transaction Processing)
•     Using a script that was created by DBCA that creates a database from a sample database
•     Cloning a database that was created by either of the two preceding methods, and if Section 3.3.7.1, "Loading Modified .sql Files into the Database" was not executed after Bundle Patch19 was applied
Upgraded databases require that you perform the steps in Section 3.3.7.1, "Loading Modified .sql Files into the Database" and Section 3.3.7.2, "Recompiling Views in the Database" if these steps have not previously been performed; otherwise, no post-installation steps need to be performed

Thanks for the comments!
So to clarify: if I applied psu patch 18 and 19 and then create a new instance, I would need to only apply catcpu.sql from patch 19 to the new instance?
Thanks!
Kathie

  • Easy ORACLE RAC 11g question....

    Hi everyone.....
Im new at this .... I've setup using VMware a 2 node cluster that works fine... 11g
Im planning to move our production database that is currently 10g ...
Heres the question... Is it possible to run a 10g instance on 11g RAC... without an upgrade??
Its 11g compatible to run 10g instances?

Your instance is mapped with oracle database. You installed oracle software first then create a database.
If you upgrade your database to 11g then your instance will be 11g. Instance is oracle memory structure and background processes. Actually we upgrade oracle binaries and oracle database.

  • Oracle B2B 11g question about pulling data from remote TP sftp server

    Hi,
We would like replace our custom b2b solution with oracle b2b, but without resulting much changes in remote TP side. To do that the following issues are to be resolved.
    1) in the existing custom b2b, host tp is pulling data from remote TP location. How does oracle b2b pull data from remote location using sftp(AS1 1.1)? Oracle document says that by using global listening channel, we can make oracle b2b listen to the sftp server? Is that correct? Is there any sample about how to configure and test it.
    2) For outbound file we would like to preserve the file name. If you use sftp for sending the file out, is it possible to preserve the filename?
    3) Some incoming files which are datafiles , does not have any identification pattern. Is there any other way to identify the document type? For example from which location we are pulling the file can tell us the document type.

Oracle document says that by using global listening channel, we can make oracle b2b listen to the sftp server? Is that correct? Is there any sample about how to configure and test it. I am not sure what do you mean by AS1 1.1 but yes, SFTP is supported in Oracle B2B and if you want to poll a SFTP location, then you need to create a listening channel in Oracle B2B. For creating a listening channel, please refer -
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14571_01/integration.1111/e10229/bb_listen_chan.htm#BAJJICJJ
    2) For outbound file we would like to preserve the file name. If you use sftp for sending the file out, is it possible to preserve the filename?Yes, it is possible. There is a setting "Preserve Filename" in transport protocol parameter of a SFTP channel which should be enabled for this purpose.
    3) Some incoming files which are datafiles , does not have any identification pattern. Is there any other way to identify the document type? For example from which location we are pulling the file can tell us the document type. In case of FTP/FILE/SFTP, file name can be used to pass document type and revision information to Oracle B2B. Please refer "Filename format" setting on the above mentioned link.
I figured it out from another thread about how to pull the file. I configured the listening channel so that it reads from a remote server using sftpo protocol. And I have given the filename format as %FROM_PARTY%.dat. I am putting a file like TESTBC.dat. TESTBC is the name of the remote TP. B2B is reading the file but, recognizes the document tupe, but says that FromTP null. What is the solution?
Make sure that TP name is same as what you are giving in filename (cross-check for spelling). You may also try with default naming convention (do not mention anything in Filename format in listening channel configuration) - %FROM_PARTY%_%TIMESTAMP%.dat
    for eg -
    Acme_12345.dat

  • Question about Oracle Database 11g: Program with PL/SQL

    Hello,
    I've read that:
This course is a combination of Oracle Database 11g: PL/SQL Fundamentals and Oracle Database 11g: Develop PL/SQL Program Units courses.
In order to preparing for this exam, i should read the student guide, so there are 4 pdf files. One is Oracle Database 11g: PL/SQL Fundamentals, and the other 3 are regarding to Oracle Database 11g: Develop PL/SQL Program Units (volume I, II and III). My question is, regarding to this last one (Oracle Database 11g: Develop PL/SQL Program Units), which volume should i read? I saw that volume I has 400+ pages, and the IIIrd ~80.
Which document should i read? What's the difference between them?
    Thanks!

Passing the exam and becoming certified are not a matter of simply reading a book or taking a training class. While books and classroom materials as well as in-class training are all important steps in preparing for an exam, experience and research are just as important. I cannot tell you that there are 53 questions on the exam and every single question maps directly back to page 13, paragraph 3 in XX book. However, If you have the classroom material, and you have the list of exam topics, you should be able to find most of the information you need. In some cases, if you are not completely familiar with a specific topic, or you don't feel like the information in the book gives you all the information you need, you may need to do a little additional research. This is all part of preparing for an exam. This process is what makes you successful as a certified professional.
Your focus seems to be solely on the course materials that you have and what volumes and chapters you should read. I'm trying to give you a different perspective - preparing for an exam is not necessarily about taking one course or reading one book and being ready. You need to review the exam topics and be sure that you are familiar with each topic.

  • Oracle BAM 11g - Deployments and development questions

    Hi!
I have few questions related to Oracle BAM 11g developement and deployment processes. We are going to use that together with Oracle SOA Suite 11g ( BPEL / BPM processes), and now my questions are related to development phase:
    1. If we have two or more Oracle BAM developers with their own Oracle BAM server instances, and we would like to share our development work, should/can we you same database repository to share the reports, data objects?
    2. How we can copy Oracle BAM Data Objects, Reports etc from one environment (dev) to other environments (test, accept test, integration test, production) ? In software deployment projects (like Spring or Grails web-projects) we have used version control system and CI to build packages to different environments etc. How is the Oracle BAM deployment process actually "planned to be" since it uses its database repository to store objects and reports ?
    3. The Oracle BAM itself has nice reports etc (Oracle BAM Client) that can be used using IE browser. How if we have to show/include those reports from Oracle WebCenter Spaces ? Is it possible and how?

    Hi,
Were you able to find the answer to your questions? Especially the one, showing BAM reports in Webcenter Spaces?

  • Oracle Database 11g: SQL Fundamentals I 1Z0-051 Question

i bought the OCA Oracle Database 11g: SQL Fundamentals I Exam Guide (Exam 1Z0-051) and i am not sure do i have to read the whole book ! or just go through the exam objectives table ? because the book covers lots of topics that's not in the exam and i am kind of tight on time if any one had the book or used it pls help
To make it more clear i have a table in the book that shows each exam topic with page number next to it Like this:
    Restricting and Sorting Data
[ ]      Limit the rows that are retrieved by a query Pg:104
[ ]      Sort the rows that are retrieved by a query Pg:136
[ ]      Use ampersand substitution to restrict and sort output at runtime
Using Single-Row Functions to Customize Output
[ ]      Describe various types of functions available in SQL Pg:170
[ ]      Use character, number, and date functions in SELECT statements Pg:177

Yes indeed. Practice at work (and elsewhere) is the best way to learn and ro reinforce learning.
However, the more you read, the more you will be exposed to ideas and variations. Eventually you will find that many of the books have errors in various places. You will be winning when you are able to read and identify the errors AND explain why they are errors.
The way your original question was written implied that you were after the minimum effort to pass an exam. Your last reply implies a different, and better, attitude.
My suggestion therefore is to concentrate on the actual examples, but as quickly as possible expand to areas of interest. Explore as much as you possibly can, but make it a 'learning exploration' byut asking yourself questions and then investigating what the answer is.
Also note that in Oracle nearly every answer has an exception. The best of the best know this and try very hard to understand when things go according to plan and when (and why) expections occur.

  • Latest Oracle DB 11g patch

    Hi all,
Can you give me a link from where to download the latest patch for oracle database 11g R2? I've had some patch installed but i reinstalled Windows and i don't know exactly what patch was... and what includes that patch?
Also, do i need first to install the database 11g R2 and after that the patch, or directly the patch?

  • Error upgrading Oracle DBPersonal 11g R1 x86 from 11.1.0.6.0 to 11.1.0.7.0

    Hello,
I had to manually upgrade the Oracle Database 11g R1 x86 from 11.1.0.6 to 11.1.0.7. For this, i did the following:
    - I went to the command promt, and started an sqlplus shell with / as sysdba
    - then i've shutted down the database, exited the sqlplus shell, stopped the dbconsole and the lsnrctl
    - afterwards, I've started again the sqlplus shell, and I've run
         - STARTUP UPGRADE
         - SPOOL patch.log
         - _@$ORACLE_HOME\RDBMS\ADMIN\catupgrd.sql_
         - SPOOL OFF
         - STARTUP
         - _@$ORACLE_HOME\RDBMS\ADMIN\utlrp.sql_
         - EXIT
         Everything went fine so far.
    - finnally, I've run the "_emca -upgrade db_" command in a command prompt.
This final command did not complete successfully. The final message from the log file is "Could not backup file $ORACLE_HOME\db_1\oc4j\j2ee\OC4J_DBConsole_MYCOMPUTERNAME_orcl".
Also, I have a great feeling that the upgrade didn't work... Everything I open an sql shell, it says "Connected to Personal Oracle Database 11g Release 11.1.0.6.0" and not "11.1.0.7.0".
Finnaly, I've tried using the Database Upgrade Assistant, but I get the following message: could not get the database server from the "Oracle Server" component. The "CEP" file %ORACLE_HOME\rdbms\admin\rdbmsup.sql does not provide the version directive.
    My questions are:
    1. How can I check if the upgrade was successful or not?
    2. If the upgrade wasn't successful, how can I make it work? Can I still upgrade it, or is it a lost cause?
    Thanks.
PS: the machine running the database is a Windows 2003 Server Standard Edition R2 x86, with SP2 installed.

After you shut down the database, you need to install the 11.1.0.7 software patch into your current ORACLE_HOME before upgrading the database. I do not see that in your steps you outlined above. You can download the 11.1.0.7 patch software from MOS.

  • Oracle patch in general

I have the following questions to with regards to oracle patch
    1. I learnt from my senior DBA saying that applying patch may bring another bug? is this true? Can you share your experience, if any?
    2. Is this good idea to apply all the patches for a specific version(let's say oracle 11g r1) without consulting Oracle support
       as a best practice?
    3. Whether the patch script will vary for ASM and non-ASM instance? or would be the same?
    4. How the Oracle bug id differs from patch set? In some cases, the patchset is same as bug id? is there any way to distinguish these two terms?
    5. Is there any way to identify the list of patches and bugs fixed by quering the oracle database dictionary?
    6. Is this good idea to apply bunch of patchsets in one-go rather than one by one. I mean apply one patch and waiting for 1-2 weeks and if we don't face any issues apply the second patch and so on.
    7.  Do we need to apply the patch instance by instance (clustered db) or just database?
It would be great if you someone clears my bugging queries on oracle patch.
Thanks so much for knowledge sharing.

Q1: So don't fix it if ain't broke?.  -we may not notice the issue at the initial stage. If we hit the bug after applying series of patches, how will come to know which patch has created this bug? and how to revert?
Ask Oracle. and you should be testing the patch in your test environment first.
Q2: Does it mean we can apply all the up-to-date patches without consulting oracle support?
That's oracle recommendation always to be on latest patch so YES
Q4 : I have seen some cases, the patchset is same as the bug id. That's why I am trying to understand the differences between these two
If this is one-off patch or like patch consist the fix of only that bug-id , you will normally see patch number same as bug number.
q5: I read somewhere we can query the details dba_hist_repository ( something like that). Not sure whether this dictionary will provide all the patches/bugs fixed
I misread your question before. Yes the table name is registry$history
q6 : Here I am talking about only patchsets. Can we apply two patchsets at the same time? If yes, if there are any bug, how are we going to identify which patch set has caused this bug??
Patch sets are commutative. So if you apply latest patch set it will include all previous patches. You can apply multiple single patches.
q7: My question was patchset has to applied instance by instance(let's assume 2 node cluster) or just at the database level? may be novice question for you.
You have apply the patch on all the binaries where instances are running.
Thanks for your time sharma.  Please comment

Failed to load XML. Unable to find record in GPA where UGP_KEY = 1
    I'm doing in Red Hat 5 x86-64

The issue is not the WLS 10.3.2. We just had the same issue. The issue is the database 11gr2 is not supported. The highest supported DB is 11.1.0.6 (11gr1). There is a sequence number problem in 11gr2 and there is no workaround for it. So, go to 11.1.0.6 DB and the issue will be resolved. However, OIM 9.1.0.1 is not supported on WLS 10.3.2 so, install 9.1.0.1 and then install patch for 9.1.0.2 and then install a patch BP05. This will bring it to WLS 10.3.2 and OIM 9.1.0.2 BP05 and DB 11.1.0.6. These are compatible.

    Hi;
I belive you can follow this thread if you insist to make 11g installation on ubuntu. But as installation documents refer Ubuntu is not a certified platform yet for 11gr2,you can find details on below docs. (I suggest use OEL platform which is free and certified wiht Oracle 11gR2 db)

  • Rules of thumb for sizing an Oracle BPM 11g deployment

Anyone out there have some rules of thumb they are using to size out an environment for Oracle BPM 11g? I know processing power can vary widely for process complexity and amount of data floating around. Still, I get asked questions like how much processing power do I need for this solution? I have a current client looking at 2500+ potential human workflow users with 1000 concurrent at peak load. Short of running some performance test myself and extrapolating numbers I am at a loss. Hoping some others can chime in with some thoughts.

an update... my rule of thumb for 50 users has proven to be a bit high. Looks to be 30-40 per core when you split out the BPMN engine from other computing intensive processes such as the ESB. Without splitting up overall SOA/BPM functionality over multiple servers concurrent user counts of various technology really takes a hit.
