Oracle portal using JSF, JSP, Struts framework

Hi ,
Can anyone tell me how to build an oracle portal using JSF,Jsp and Struts Framework.
Also please provide any manual or documentation for developing oracle portal.
Thanks in Advance,
Raghav

At present, i think the best thing to do is to look at the example provided with the struts-faces integration taglib. I don't know any documentation about it.

  • Using jsf with struts

    hi;
i am trying to understand the proper architecture when using jsf and struts together.
i think i understand the differences between the technologies . it seems to me that instead of justifying jsf there should be a focus on how the two technologies actually collaborate.
specifically, i would like to know or see examples of things like replacing the view portion of struts and plugging in the jsf framework instead or how to i replace the struts actions with jsf commands or maybe they are totally different things.
where can i get information like this?
    thanks.

  • Can Oracle Portal use IDM OID rather than portal OID

    Hi,
Is it possible to use OID of IDM during Oracle portal installation?
If we use the OID of IDM should we have to install the SSO component in the portal infra?
How does the process flow work when portal is integrated with IDM OID?
    Thanks in Advance.
    Jay.

<div>In order to use Oracle Portal, you will indeed need OiD. Not only does Oracle Portal use OiD for its users and groups, it also stores metadata for the application server.</div>
<div>Your question about synchronization of user and group information is not easily answered. Pending on your requirements there are lots of possible solutions. I'd recommend to check the OiD integration guide for possible solutions.</div>

  • Dynamic Tree Creation using JSP, Struts framework

I urgently require tips/information/code snippet for creating a Dynamic Tree structure.
Tree is the hierarchical folder structure that we see in windows operating system.
Dynamic tree in the sense that all nodes shall be populated from database & a radio button shall be present at each node that can be selected & submitted to form.
Tree should be done using JSP (& if required Javascript).

  • Unable to set session in Oracle Portal useing reverse proxy

I have deployed a reverse proxy (using Oracle HTTP Server) in front of a Oracle Portal Install (version 10.1.2.0.2). The steps followed to set this up came from the following documents:
Steps mentioned in Section 9.2 Configuring a Reverse Proxy for OracleAS Portal and OracleAS Single Sign-On for a reverse proxy on a Oracle HTTP Server.
    http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14099_15/core.1012/b13998/variants.htm#ASTED005
Also performed steps mentioned in -> Section 5.3.7 - Step 7: Enable Session Binding on OracleAS Web Cache of the Oracle® Application Server Portal Configuration Guide 10g Release 2 (10.1.2) -- B14037-03.
My current (example names shown only)setup details are as follows:
Reverse Proxy for SSO server (running on internal.oracle.com:7777): proxy.oracle.com:7777
Reverse Proxy for Portal server (running on internal.oracle.com:7778): proxy.oracle.com:7778
With the above steps completed, I can successfully use the http://proxy.oracle.com:7777/pls/orasso for login into SSO without any issues.
    Users get authenticated successfully.
I can also use http://proxy.oracle.com:7778/pls/portal for viewing pages on the portal fine . All self referencing links have also been successfully modified to point to proxy.oracle.com:7778.
However, an attempt to login in the portal is not successful. Clicking on the 'Login' link successfully redirects to the SSO login page (http://proxy.oracle.com:7777/<login-page>). However, after successful authentication, the success page fails to show up and the user gets shown the initial login portal home page again.
There are no error messages shown on the screen. But it seems that user session is failing to be initiated/set correctly, as shown by the log file (in $PORTAL_ORACLE_HOME/j2ee/OC4J_Portal/application-deployments/portal/OC4J_Portal_default_island_1/application.log ):

    Hi Chris,
The begin of the expection stack gives you the reason:
06/11/03 09:13:59 java.sql.SQLException: The method 'setSavepoint' cant be called when a global transaction is active
The reason is, that either the whole global transaction must be commited or rollbacked.
I don't know your actual configuration, but between the methods begin() and commit()/rollback() of the UserTransaction instance, OC4J/OracleAS uses a global transaction (= XA transaction) in your configuration. The state of a global transactions is completely under the control of the application server and several restrictions must be considered. One of them is, that you can't use the method setSavePoint/. E.g. you can't also call the method setAutoCommit(true) in this state, or change the transaction isolation level via setTransactionIsolation(newLevel).
This is NOT a limitation of the OC4J/OracleAS but is true for ALL application servers.
P.S. I can successfully set savepoints and rollback to savepoints in weblogic 9.0This means, that WebLogic 9.0 doesn't use a global transaction in this case.
Because I don't know your configurations (Oracle and WebLogic) I can't say, why the behave different in this situation.
    Best,
    Manfred

  • Using JSF and Struts

I am a bit of a newbie in terms of UI applications on the JEE platform, so I apologize up front if this question seems silly. I was wondering if someone could comment on the approach below. Is this something that's possible or am I barking up the wrong tree?
We have a vendor application that is written using Struts. We want to add a section of our own pages to this application, but we would rather use a more strategic approach in our pages, so we would like to use JSF for those.
The original web.xml file in the vendor app uses a dtd of version 2.3 as shown below:
    <!DOCTYPE web-app PUBLIC "-//Sun Microsystems, Inc.//DTD Web Application 2.3//EN" "http://java.sun.com/dtd/web-app_2_3.dtd">
When I use JSF, I use a DTD version of 2.5 as shown here:
    <web-app version="2.5" xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee/web-app_2_5.xsd">
The problem is that when I use version 2.3, the elements needed to support JSF are invalid. When I use 2.5, the elements needed to support struts are invalid.
Could someone comment in that, if you had this vendor app and you needed to add your own pages, is it not possible to use JSF in this scenario or if you can, what is the best approach to resolving this issue?
    Thank you in advance

First make sure that your application server supports Servlet API 2.5. Whether the desired Servlet API version is supported or not solely depends on the application server implementation and version used. For example Tomcat 5.5 is a Servlet API 2.4 implementation which only supports the API versions up to with 2.4. If you want to use Servlet API 2.5, then you obviously need a Servlet API 2.5 implementation, for example Tomcat 6.0.
Consult the website and/or documentation of the application server in question.

  • Oracle portal use in different application servers

Instead of Oracle 9iAS, can Oracle Portal run on other Application Server?

    Hello,
When you using JDBC resource in a J2EE container you should use a DataSource that will be an abstraction layer to your code.
    Are you doing that?
This will simplify the integration to the development, test and production machines.
You can take look the the data source how-to on OTN.

  • Portal Development using JSF & Struts

Can some one explain about the feasibility of developing portals using JSF and Struts? What are the advantages and disadvantages of doing so? Is it a right decision to develop portal servers using these?

Yes I am familiar with all those links. Let me break down scenario and ask specific questions.
    Server version: Netweaver 7.0 (2004s) SP18
    1. Created External Library DC (i.e. ebuslib)
             - added 3rd party JARS (e.g. hibernate, Spring)
             - created two public parts - one for compilation, one for assembly (deploy)
             - activated activity
    2. Create J2EE Server Component - Library DC (i.e. ebuslib2)
              - added "ebuslib" assembly PP as Used DC (build only)
    3. Built "ebuslib2"
              - can see jars in the resulting sda file.
              - activated activity
              - confirmed on J2EE engine deployed library containing the jars.
    Scenarios
    A. EP Project DC
               - needs access to 3rd party jars
               - QUESTION: What do I need to reference? The External Library DC or the J2EE Server Component Library DC?
                             - I read that you should reference the J2EE Server Component BUT the jars are not available in the PP of that DC.
                             - One developer one talked to referenced the compilation PP of the External Library DC (i.e. "ebuslib").
                                     - this seemed to work but then I wondered how the project finds the JAR at runtime?
QUESTION: Does SAP load all the classes that have been deployed via the J2EE Server Component Library DC method and hence those JARs are globally available at runtime hence no need to reference them during development except for compilation? What if > 1 J2EE library contain the same jar or same API but different versions (e.g. Hibernate 2 vs 3).
Thanks for any clarifications. I want to understand the underlying technology and how it works. I have seen alot of information out there but some of it is confusing and conflicting.

This forum is for JSF, not Struts. Your best bet to get your question answered, is to post to the struts user mailing list.

  • Populating Database values into a combo box in STRUTS Framework

    Hi Guys,
I am currently working on a STRUTS Framework project and I can't get much resources related to the problems that I'm facing.
Currently I need to populate a JSP file's Combo box with database values. What I don't know here is the syntax used to in STRUTS framework to populate the Combo box with database values. Anyone with experience related to this topic, please kindly help me out.

Struts doesn't define anything about the datab layer. You're free to implement how you will.
Struts instead guides you into following an MVC pattern.
You populate a combo box with values from a bean.
So you need to set up a bean for this page to talk to.
That bean can be populated from the database - but at that point you're in java/jdbc code - and away from the struts layer.
    My suggestions
1 - Define a bean to represent the information from the database.
2 - write a method that queries the database, and copies the data into a List of those beans. This will be your Data access layer.
3 - in your action, call that method, and then set the list of beans as a request attribute. Or maybe as a property on a form.
4 - use that list of beans to populate your dropdown box.

  • Oracle Portal 11g, Oracle WebCenter Suite or Oracle WebLogic Portal ?

Witch of these technologies, Oracle Portal 11g,
Oracle WebCenter Suite or Oracle WebLogic Portal ?
is the future product of oracle ?
I am going to use portal but I don't know witch of these product is the correct one.
I need help to clarified it. As i am going to use portal I want to use the one that oracle intend to support

    Hi Harish,
There are lot differences are available when you compare these three products, some them are
    Oracle Web Center Suite
Comprises of various components such as Web Center Interaction,Oracle Entitlement Server,Oracle Personalization Server an Ensemble(for proxying content and mashups) and chat server, wiki server, blog server, forum etc are available with web center suite. The collaboration tools are out of the box,so you dont require to redevelop anything to enable collaboration for your site.Basically webcenter is more powerful when used to develop intranet sites rather than a website which requires less collaboration.
    Oracle Portal 10g
Oracle Portal 10g is the primary oracle portal product before oracle bought BEA.The main difference is the architecture and framework,Oracle Portal uses sql/plsql intensively for processing the page as all their pages are developed from browser.Every thing you develop is streaming that is queried from DB in contrast with weblogic portal which has the feature of file based portal which is faster compared to the streaming(persistent desktops). The architecture is different compared to weblogic and webcenter. For ex:There are sql and pl/sql portlets which can be developed very faster which not there in the other two platforms.
    Oracle Weblogic Portal 10.3
It is hot in the market right now and development is easier and architecture supports both file based and streaming, the primary features of all the portal product are more or less same but webcenter has more collaborative features.Weblogic portal is very stable as it is on WLS which is a stable weblogic server.
I prefer if you have any previous experience on any of these products then built on that one.Else start with weblogic portal which is easier to startwith compared to others.
