Oracle Proxy Authentication

Oracle9i 9.2.0.1.0
WebLogic Server 7.0 SP3
We want to use Oracle's Proxy Authentication and don't have a clue about
configuring WebLogic.
Can anyone assist?

Hello Joe,
I want to do, what oracle is suggesting me to do, namely,
InitialContext initial =
new InitialContext();
OracleOCIConnectionPool ds =
(OracleOCIConnectionPool)
initial.lookup("jdbc/OracleOciDS");
oracle.jdbc.OracleConnection conn = null;
Properties p = new Properties();
p.setProperty(PROXY_USER_NAME, username);
p.setProperty(PROXY_PASSWORD, pwd);
conn = ds.getProxyConnection(PROXYTYPE_USER_NAME, p);
This from the oracle website, I want to add password to the properties. I understandI will have to change jndi lookup i have to modify to match mine. The thing is that,
what I heard is, weblogic drivers don't support this type of authetication, is that
true? If they don't then how can I get 'OracleOCIConnectionPool' for a pool configured,
for oracle oci (or thick) driver, from the bea console?
Hi. You can do exactly that with a direct Oracle DataSource, but no middleware product
will be able to interact with them. We could wrap Oracle-specific objects, and make
methods like getProxyConnection(), but Oracle makes the contiinuing mistake of
providing these non-standard JDBC methods with no Interface to define them. This
means that you have to cast to a concrete Oracle class to use the methods, and
WebLogic classes cannot be Oracle classes. We can both be javax.sql.DataSource,
because that's an Interface...
You could contact support at BEA and ask for a feature to provide getProxyConnection
functionality, but your code would still have to look a little different, at least
in the cast.

    Hey folks,
    Is there any way to configure WLS 8.1 to automatically set the Oracle CLIENT_IDENTIFIER

  • Administration of APEX in SQL Developer with Proxy Authentication impossibl

    Hello!
    We are using latest version of SQL Developer to administer APEX. We are connecting to the database with proxy authentication. The syntax is:
    personal_user[apex_ws_owner]
    e.g.: mdecker[apex_demo]
    When trying to deploy APEX application I go to "Database Object" -> Application Express -> Application1 [100] -> right mouse click: "Deploy Application". Then I select the appropriate database identifier and next, I am presented with a screen showing import options. In second line, it says: "Parsing Schema: MDECKER".
    This is wrong: it has to be Parsing Schema: APEX_DEMO. It seems that managing APEX with SQL Developer does not support Proxy Authentication.
    Could you please confirm?
    Is there a way to formally ask for this enhancement?
    Best regards,
    Martin
    Update:
    I found out that if I check the flag "Proxy Authentication" in the connect details and provide both passwords, the deploy application parsing schema is set to the correct APEX_DEMO account. However, we are using Proxy Authentication in order to avoid having to know the application password.

    There is a write-up about connecting to APEX here: <a href ="http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/application_express/html/sql_dev_integration.html" >SQL Dev Oracle APEX Integration</a>
    <p>You do need to have updated to Oracle APEX 3.0.1.

  • How to pass Proxy user dynamically in Toplink proxy authentication?

    Hi,
    I'm using Toplink Proxy Authentication with my ADF JSF application and want to pass the Proxy user dynamically to the preLogin(..) method of mySessionEventListener (Currently proxy user is hard coded).
    This is to make my application user as the Proxy user.
    I have tried to do this in two ways:
    1) In my Login screen Backing Bean, I retrieve the session as
    session = sessionFactory.acquireSession(); and set the application user in it as
    session.setProperty("proxyUser1", inputText1.getValue());
    But,
    session.getProperty("proxyUser1") returns null in the preLogin(..) method
    2) I add a loginUser property to the mySessionEventListener class and create a constructor to set it.
    Then I call the constructor from my Login Backing Bean as
    mySessionEventListener eventMgr = new mySessionEventListener(<proxy_user>);
    session.getEventManager().addListener( eventMgr );
    But, the loginUser property seeems to be transient and does not retain value when retrieved in preLogin(..) method.
    Please indicate if anything is wrong. Also, is there any other way to get this done?
    Thanks in advance.
    Vikas

    Hi Vikas,
    Probably your sessions.xml defines a ServerSession, and acquireSession method returns a ClientSession. ServerSession is the object that connects to the database, it may have any number of ClientSessions associated with it - all of them use connections provided by ServerSession's connection pools.
    So if you'd like to alter the serverSession before login, acquireSession is too late - it triggers login of the ServerSession and returns a ClientSession.
    To get the ServerSession before login:
    // the first param indicates that the session shouldn't be connected
    Session serverSession = sessionFactory.getSharedSession(false, false);Now you have a serverSession on which login hasn't been called yet.
    You can set the property into the session, or directly into its login.
    In fact you may choose to do whatever you wanted to do in preLogin right here - in this case no preLogin event would be required of course.
    Finally to get a ClientSession, call the same api did:
    // the first param indicates that the session shouldn't be connected
    Session clientSession = sessionFactory.getSession();On the first such call the ServerSession will be connected.
    Note that because all the ClientSessions will connect through the connections provided by the same ServerSession they will all use proxyUser1.
    If you are interested in using different proxy users for different ClientSessions http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/ias/toplink/doc/1013/main/_html/dblgcfg008.htm#BABDABCF lists several scenarios for that.

  • Http proxy authentication for JDev 10.1.3

    Hi,
    I found the http proxy settings in the "tools->preferences->Web Browser and Proxy" but there are no settings for the username and password. Is there some other way that I can add these.
    The problem is that whenver JDeveloper wants to do some http stuff it (or something else is doing it) asks me for the proxy user name & password - this happens over and over again. If JDev is doing this then surely it should remember the username & password.
    I sometimes get a JDeveloper dialog "waiting for the connection" come up over the proxy auth dialog and I have to cancel the function so I can authenticate, then re-request the function.
    I wish I didn't have the proxy authentication but I have no choice in this dev environment. I do get to choose JDeveloper at least.
    Regards,
    Simon.

    Hi,
    I get it when I 'check for updates' and I get it again when I 'go to JavaDoc' - and this is the one where the "waiting for connection dialog" pops on top of the proxy log in and I have to cancel it to log in. Then all subsequent 'go to JavaDoc' requests go straight through.
    I would prefer it if I could just configure (in proxy preferences) the username and password so it never asks me. I dont care if it less secure storing the password since I think authenticating proxies are a dumb idea anyway. If the password is not supplied then JDev can ask for it like it does now to keep the security-paranoid people happy.
    Also, this morning I got this Exception which appeared at the same time I got a proxy auth window. When JDev finally started all my previously open windows were lost. No real problem but unexpected. Here is the stack dump:

  • Strange behaviour when using connection pooling with proxy authentication

    All
    I have developed an ASP.NET 1.1 Web application that uses ODP.NET 9.2.0.4 accessing Oracle Database 8i (which is to be upgraded to 10g in the coming months). I have enabled connection pooling and implemented proxy authentication.
    I am observing a strange behaviour in the live environment. If two users (User 1 and User 2) are executing SQL statements at the same time (concurrent threads in IIS), the following is occurring:
    * User 1 opens a new connection, executes a SELECT statement, and closes this connection. The audit log, which uses the USER function, shows User 1 executed this statement.
    * User 2 opens the same connection (before it is released to the connection pool?), excutes an INSERT statement, and closes this connection. The audit log shows User 1, not User 2, executed this statement.
    Is this a known issue when using connection pooling with proxy authentication? I appreciate your help.
    Regards,
    Chris

    Hi Chris,
    I tried to reproduce your complaint, but was unable to. I didnt use auditting however, just a series of "select user from dual" with proxy authentication. You might want to see if you can put together a small complete testcase for this and open a sr with support.
    Cheers

  • Calling external web service - Proxy Authentication error

    Using Developer 10.1.3.3 and following OTN example http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/forms/htdocs/10gr2/howto/webservicefromforms/ws_10_1_3_from_forms.html.
    I have followed the above example and am trying to test the SendServiceSoapClient.java in JDeveloper. The class compiles ok but when I run it I receive the following error in the log window :
    HTTP transport error: javax.xml.soap.SOAPException: java.security.PrivilegedActionException: javax.xml.soap.SOAPException: Bad response: 407 Proxy Authentication Required
    As I was able to create the proxy with no problems, the proxy settings in Tools->Preferences are valid. I don't understand at what point it is failing as I am able to access the wsdl in the example from JDeveloper. I have checked the system settings for the proxy (username/pwd/host etc) at run time and they are as expected.
    Can anyone make any suggestions? I have had my user details checked on our proxy server and it is not blocked from performing any actions. Is the message indicating I am being blocked from accessing the service from the suppliers end?

    I have a solution for the problem I encountered.
    My collegues who look after the proxy server and network first tried to bypass authentication for the web site www.esendex.com (where the service resides). The same error occurred when trying to call the service.
    They then set up a route on the network to send the request straight to www.esendex.com and a rule on the firewall to allow the request 'out'. This has done the trick and the request passes through!
    Unfortunately, I am not much clearer as to why our proxy server is configured to block this message type and how come it can't be changed! Hey ho, I have a solution for now!

  • Toplink Proxy Authentication with 10.1.3 problem

    Hi,
    I'm are using Toplink Proxy Authentication in a JSF application with SessionFacade pattern and have implemented a preLogin() method of oracle.itech.pil.utils.PILSessionEventManager (which implements SessionEventListener) as described in
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/ias/toplink/doc/1013/main/_html/dblgcfg008.htm. Due to Class Loader problem while loading of SessionEventManager, I'm explicitly loading the Class by doing this:
    try {
    Thread.currentThread().getContextClassLoader().loadClass("oracle.itech.pil.utils.PILSessionEventManager");
    catch(Exception exp) {
    System.out.println("Exception while loading class oracle.itech.pil.utils.PILSessionEventManager "+exp.toString());
    The SessionEventManager is loaded by doing this:
    session.getEventManager().addListener(new PILSessionEventManager());
    (Encountered while using <event-listener-class>oracle.itech.pil.events.PILSessionEventManager</event-listener-class> in sessions.xml file, so removed and added the same using session.getEventManager().addListener(new PILSessionEventManager()) )
    But now, I'm encountering ClassCastException during the login to my application

    Any clue why this error, which i am facing since 10 days to complete my task
    Thanks In Advance
    Prashant

    James, what Venkat and Prashant are trying to do is something like this...
    1. If I connect to the DB using scott/tiger then in the preLogin method of the Toplink Session Listener class, the proxy user will connect using something like admin/welcome1 and in the database audit view, the name that shows up SHOULD BE that of admin and NOT of scott. This is called proxy authentication if it works fine.
    We developed the above scenario but in the audit logs, we still see scott instead of admin as the user who connected.
    2. This feature is available in the DB but our objective is to use it through TopLink
    Also see Toplink Proxy Authentication Not Working
    I hope I was able to explain the scenario clearly.
    Any help will be appreciated
    Regards,
    Amit

  • Proxy Authentication required(Acess denied)

    I created simple java web service (java class with single method it takes two arguments) with SAOP messgae format as document/wrapped using JDeveloper 10.1.3.1.
    I created one ESB project in ESB for this same application.
    In ESB project i created one Routing service here i givven physical path of WSDL file.
    And also i created one SOAP service here i given URL of WSDl file.
    After that I register that web service in ESB.Registration was done successfully.
    After that I log in to OC4J console, here i able to find my web service under webservices tab.
    Now i tested this webservice ,but it is giving some exception proxy Authentication required(Acess denied).
    this is Exception

  • IAS 9i, JAAS and Proxy Authentication

    Hi
    I'm trying to use proxy authentication for a web application hosted on IAS. The 'Oracle 9i Application Server Security guide' states that proxy authentication is supported using JDBC, but I can't find instructions on how to use this approach. Is this feature configurable, or it must be hand coded in the web application.
    Ideally, I'd like to establish the lightweight session using the credentials used to perform a JAAS authentication.
    I've seen an example for a similar situation linking JAAS authentication to VPDs setting up the application context for the database connection, but the example was tied to BC4J. I'd like to use a more general approach, for example to use this feature with BI Beans.
    I think this is not an unusual setup, but I can't find clear instructions on how to make the pieces work together.
    Fernando

    Thanks,
    Any additional recommendations are welcome. We plan to use forms and reports service with SSL.

  • TL 11g: JPA and DB proxy authentication?

    Hi!
    I posted similar question of JDev 11g forum, but I hope I can get more profound expertise here :)))
    OK. I want to make a proof-of-concept for end-to-end security using a novel 11g technology: I want to use EJB 3.0 / JPA (TopLink) and to enable subject identity propagation to database using Proxy Authentication mechanism. I stress that I want to use JPA (annotated entities) and not TopLink mappings, and to have as simplest as possible code (yes, I know...).
    Now, my idea is to use Session Event Listener (registered in persistance.xml) to set a proxy connection inside a standard unit of work connection defined in persistance.xml (in the proxy connection I would not set username/password in event listener as I want to do that inside EJB Session Facade).
    Then, in EJB Session Fascade I would like to set a username/password for database login in session that will be used to execute a JPA transaction. I discovered that I can get a ServerSession and Active Session from Entity Manager, with:
    EntityManager em = emf.createEntityManager();
    ServerSession serverSession = ((oracle.toplink.jpa.JpaEntityManager)em).getServerSession();
    Session activeJPASession  = ((oracle.toplink.jpa.JpaEntityManager)em).getActiveSession();What I don't know is how to proceed. Do I have to use Server Session to create/open a new Client Session (but, I'm not sure if then I also have to use a manual transactions inside EBJ Session Bean method, or I can rely on container managed transaction?)? Or I can just set username/password on Active Session. Or I can change a DatabaseLogin (ActiveSession.getLogin().setUsername().setPassword())?
    Please, any advice is appreciated. I'm not an expert on JPA/TopLink so I may spend days figuring this out...
    Thanks in advance!
    PaKo

    PaKo,
    We need to make proxy authentication easier through the JPA interface. At present you can configure the event listener using the toplink.session-event-listener to implement the proxy events as described in the documentation. The piece that is missing is the ability to pass in the proxy authentication credentials when acquiring an EntityManager.
    You are correct that you would need to acquire a client session directly (Note: the JpaHelper can help). When acquired you can use this client session to access the database but it will function only as TopLink's native API and not completely as JPA.
    I filed bug 219434 against EclipseLink to address passing the credentials into:
    EntityManagerFactory.createEntityManager(Map properties)I will continue to investigate to get you a better solution.

  • Proxy Authentication Support

    All,
    Just figured I'd share this workaround.
    We've been trying to use 10.1.0.4's proxy authentication functionality with our ISA Proxy servers and it just doesn't work with ISA servers due to well...Microsoft's inability to conform to industry standards... :-/
    Anyway, Came up with create and stable workaround. We stood up a copy of this:
    http://ntlmaps.sourceforge.net/
    Which is basically a NTLM Authentication - Proxy Forwarder. Extremely simple Python based daemon.
    Figured this might save you some trouble if you're company forces NTLM Proxy based auth to get to the net and you're wondering how to hook OEM up to Metalink.

    Actually, there's quite a bit more to it than that.
    proxyHost= IP address of the proxy server
    proxyPort= port number of the proxy server
    proxyUser= User name for proxy server authorization
    proxyPwd= password for proxy server authorization
    proxyRealm= proxy server realm
    proxyPropsEncrypted= flag indicating whether proxyUser and proxyPwd are encrypted values.
    However, when configuring for proxy auth by specifying the realm user and pwd for the authentication user, it doesn't work with an Microsoft ISA Proxy despite the fact that both the ISA Proxy is configured for basic auth support and httpclient.jar supports basic auth as well.
    It has "issues" in the negotiation phase. The issue's being worked with Oracle Development. Hence, the reason for my original post. Those who run into the problem will appreciate finding a solution in the search engine. :)

  • TopLink Proxy authentication issue

    Hello all,
    I tried to use proxy authentication for TopLink for connecting to a database via TopLink in a J2EE application deployed on an Oracle iAS 10.1.2. For doing that, I tried to follow the steps described in the TopLink documentation (http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/ias/toplink/doc/1013/main/_html/dblgcfg008.htm#BABDABCF) with the last scenario, "Server Session uses Proxy Connection".
    According to the previously mentioned documentation, I created a session event handler for the preLoginEvent session event, the preLogin(SessionEvent event) method that I copied below.
    The issue with this is that, when I try to run a TopLink query in a Java DAO class, I obtained some exceptions. There are two cases here:
    1-If the code preLogin(SessionEvent event) is exactly as below, it seems that the queried views/tables cannot be seen. The exception obtained is:

In this case another exception is obtained: an Invalid User/Password exception is thrown. If I comment this line, the login is successfull, but I obtain the exception at section 1.
    I have to tell you in both cases the parameters of the Data source are properly set. I tested the datasource in another servlet where I created directly the connection based on the same datasource taken from the application server's JNDI.
    Do you have any hint or idea about this issue?
    Thanks a lot in advance!
    Regards,
    Marinel
    public void preLogin(SessionEvent event)

    String[] roles = new String[1];
    roles[0] = "Manager";
    login.setProperty(OracleConnection.PROXY_ROLES, roles);
    }

    Hi, I am also working on proxy authentication and am having the same problem as Marinel.
    If I use a normal jdbc proxy connection, I can access the table just fine, and using a direct Toplink connection works fine.However, when i try and use proxy authentication via Toplink, i do not have permissions on the table.
    From your last update,it seems that if I want to use DISTINGUISED NAME authentication, I should set "proxytype" to OracleConnection.PROXYTYPE_DISTINGUISHED_NAME, and set OracleConnection.PROXY_DISTINGUISHED_NAME to the full user distinguised name.
    I have temporarily altered my preLogin Event as below to show these two scenarios, to access the table via normal jdbc proxy connection (and this part works), and then below that I try and set up the Toplink proxy session(which fails).
    public void preLogin(SessionEvent event) {
    DatabaseLogin login = event.getSession().getLogin();
    // Make sure that external connection pooling is used
    login.setUsesExternalConnectionPooling(true);
    String urlThin =
    "<jdbc_url>";
    OracleDataSource ds;
    OracleConnection oc = null;

  • HTTP/1.1 407 Proxy Authentication Required for cloud connection

    I am using Jdeveloper version 11.1.1.7.1 for ADF deployment on cloud service(Java and DB services).As instructed ,I have followed all the steps and in jdeveloper .when I tried to Authenticate the created connection with username and password, i am getting HTTP/1.1 407 Proxy Authentication Required .I am clueless how to solve this,Followed all the blogs but no luck.Please help on this,

    Presumably you are behind a FW, does your proxy require authentication if so did you set it with "Tools > Preferences > Web Browser and Proxy > Proxy Server Requires Authentication". Also what is the version of your JCS SDK ? You can check it by:
    java -jar javacloud.jar -version
    It should be something like 15.1.2.0 or later ..
