Oracle Recovery Structures And Processes

Could somebody please tell me where I can get to know what exactly the following are and what role they play in Instance Recovery
a) Fast-Start Parallel Rollback
b) On-Demand Parallel Rollback
I found no explanation of this in the Backup and Recovery Guide.
Thanks in Advance.
With Regds.,
Sriraman.

Fast-Start Parallel Rollback is a feature that was introduced in Oracle8 meaning that the in the case of a database crash, Oracle will first roll forward all transactions in the online logs and open the database. Then after the database is open, then the transactions that were not commited would be roll back. Therefore, you do not need to wait for the roll back to occur before the database opens. There have been many improvements on the rollback phase after a crash on when, who, and how the transactions are rolled back. In Oracle9i, the transactions are rolled back a block at a time when the block is needed for a new transaction.
I found a reference in the Oracle9i Real Application Clusters Concepts guide. http://tahiti.oracle.com/pls/db901/db901.to_URL?remark=drilldown&urlname=http:%2F%2Fdownload-west.oracle.com%2Fotndoc%2Foracle9i%2F901_doc%2Frac.901%2Fa89867%2Fpshavdtl.htm%237046
Also found information on fast-start and on-demand in Oracle9i Database Performance Guide and Reference. (http://tahiti.oracle.com/pls/db901/db901.to_URL?remark=drilldown&urlname=http:%2F%2Fdownload-west.oracle.com%2Fotndoc%2Foracle9i%2F901_doc%2Fserver.901%2Fa87503%2Finstreco.htm%234 29566) And Chapert 17 of the same book.
Hope that helps.

  • Hana db filesystem directory structure and process command line

    Hi experts,
Could someone provide please actual directory structure of Hana db filesystem?
Generally speaking, I need to model some Hana db(of 1.0, 1.5 versions) entities. Among them:
    Schemas
    Data files
    Log files
    Important configuration files
Database parameters(guess found in config files and command line)
    Database version
The question is where i can find such information having access to filesystem?
One another question is how common Hana db commandline looks like?
Does it have one process or several?
It would be perfect if someone give some ps -aef command result grepped with relevant Hana Db processes
    Thanks,

Anyhow, just check the running services in HANA studio (landscape tab) and you have all the process at hand.

ThnxI'm not familiar with nscd. I'm more inclined to think your attempt to change oracle home (you still haven't answered my question of why you tried to do that) is caused some mismatch. Try tracing the startup of the listener with an OS utility like truss or strace (assuming you are on a *nix system, since you still haven't revealed that either). Or investigate the "trace" parameters in sqlnet.ora and see if you can get a trace straight out of the listener when it starts.

  • Directory structure and files in Oracle Application server 10g and 11g

    Hi all,
I am doing a lab migration from 10g to 11g based on the use of JAXB. There were some directory structures used in 10g to store the JAXB jar files and some other custom jar files. I want to know the equivalent folder structures in SOA 11g server. The 10g server directories are mentioned below:-
    1.<OracleAS_Home>\webservices\lib.
    2. server.xml located at <OracleAS_Home>\j2ee\home\config in 10g. Where can I find the equivalent file to "server.xml" in 11g server?
    3. <OracleAS_Home>\bpel\system\classes\com\oracle\bpel\xml\util.
    4. <OracleAS_Home> \bpel\system\classes.

Here are the equivalents as per best of my knowledge:
    1. <WebLogic Home>\server\lib
    For example, D:\Middleware\wls1036\wlserver_10.3\server\lib
    2. config,xml located at <Domain_Home>\config\
    For example, D:\Middleware\wls1036\user_projects\domains\ArunBaseDomain1036\config\config.xml
    3. It should be the same as 10g (instead of OracleAS_Home, it will be ORACLE_Home) if you install the BPEL product. Since, I have not installed BPEL/SOA, I am not very sure.
    4. It should be the same as 10g (instead of OracleAS_Home, it will be ORACLE_Home) if you installed the BPEL product.
Also, I would recommend that you consider using ORACLE Smart Upgrade (JDeveloper component) to help you with the upgrade process. It exactly points out these mappings of file/directory structures AND the necessary configuration changes as well.
If you are requirement, is only about making the library jars available to your application, then consider reading the below discussion.

  • Deleting the flashback recovery area and the files (Oracle 10g on Solaris 8

    Hi,
We have a dev. db which is small about 3 gb in all (crd files). for this I had enabled flashback and also put it in archivelog mode. then the db_recovery_file_dest_size grew to 3 gb. since space is an issue, I turned off the flashback feature. (by the command: ALTER DATABASE FLASHBACK OFF;)
Tomorrow I will also make it into noarchivelog mode. My question is: it is having lots of archived logs (may be 3 gb or more) in the flashback recovey area. What is the correct syntax to delete them? There is a warning in alert log which says that use RMAN delete command but I am not aware of exact syntax.
    Thanks
    Nirav

You can use variations of delete. (As you say there are many files, incude noprompt)
Once the database goes into noarchivelog mode, the archived redo logs are essentially worthless. They would be useful/necessary if you wanted to restore the database to a point in time prior to going noarchive, but if you don't need that, the two ways you are looking at deleting (depending how you go about it) are at the OS level and within the database (what Oracle knows or remembers about the archived redo logs and where they were sent to via the arch process). The RMAN approach is cleaner, assuming you were using that.
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/backup.102/b14192/maint009.htm#sthref776
Delete unnecessary files from the flash recovery area using the RMAN DELETE command. (Note that if you use host operating system commands to delete files, then the database will not be aware of the resulting free space. You can run the RMAN CROSSCHECK command to have RMAN re-check the contents of the flash recovery area and identify expired files, and then use the DELETE EXPIRED command to remove missing files from the RMAN repository.)

2)What is the connection between Oracle BPM Studio and Oracle BPEL Process Manager?

    Hi,
As of today you should install SOA Suite 11g
Fr this you will need to install Database (for development you can use XE)
Run RCU utility to crete DB schemas for SOA Suite.
    Install Weblogic server
Install SOA Suite as an option to Weblogic
    Create SOA Domain.
It is physically possible to do it in 2GB but is far better on 3 - 4GB
You can consider installing DB on different machine.

  • JHeadstart, Oracle Business Rules and BPEL Process Manager

    Dear JHeadstart Team,
I have some questions regarding integration of JHeadstart and Oracle Business Rules and Oracle BPEL Process Manager. As a matter of fact I don't have any work expriences with these tools so my questions may not be good and precise.
1- Using a business rule engine can dramatically increase speed of development and ease of maintenance.I had a very good exprience in using JHeadstart and Headstart in the past but I wanted to know if it is possible to use Oracle Business Rules in conjunction with the JHeadstart ? If so, What steps should be taken? Is there any known issue about this integration? Does Oracle Business Rules have any interference with JHeadstart or it is only used in model layer during insert, update, delete?
2- Is it possible to develope a system based on oracle work flow engine (Oracle BPEL Process Manager) using JHeadstart ? If so, What steps should be taken and how the changes in the flow of work would by applyed in a system developed by JHeadstart. Is there any known issue about this integration?
Any help, link to documents or general guidelines would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Navid

Couple of things I would like to add, are the following.
In the context of an ADF application usage of Oracle Business Rules most likely is in the business logic layer, but mind that it does not need to be restricted to that.
Oracle Business Rules takes so called 'facts' as input, evaluates some rules based on that and change those facts or return some result. That might be checking a business rule as defined in the JHeadstart Developers Guide. But it might also return some value that is used in a navigation rule.
Think about a page flow where after page A normally page C is presentend, but in case of some situation (like a customer ordered something and you want to present some special offering based on that) you want page B presented in between (i.e. A -> B -> C). Oracle Rules could be used to determine this page flow. This would be an example of using it in the controller layer (probably in combination with using facts that come from the model layer).
Another remark that I would like to make, is that in my opinion it does not make much sense to use Oracle Rules for business rules that logically more or less are part of your data model (like end date must be on or after begin date). You typically use Oracle Rules to implement business rules that are of a volatile nature, meaning that day-to-day business may require a change of the rules. One example is the navigation case that I mentioned before. Another (typical) example would be a rule that defines when a customer is a Gold customer.

Try replacing the .dll file with the one in your WINDOWS directory. I had that problem and I copied the .dll from C:/WINDOWS/system32 to overwrite the one located in the install directory.
