Oracle  -- Run_Report_Object

Hello:
Is there a document on what are the valid combination of system parameter values that are valid in 10G?
We like to give an option to run a report from a Form with an Destination type of "Email". Are there any ways this can be achieved from the client side (not using reports server). We like to be able to send the email as individual user/cleint.
When we run a report as PDF output to the client, the default email options on Adobe/PDF reader are not working good. The subject and FileName are not defaulting good and we could NOT find a easy way to change them.
Any thoughts?
Thanks

    If we want to execute form in A server to run report that reside in B server, we can use web.show_document with B server host name / port and report servlet parameter.
    But is it possible if we use run_report_object ? (No share admin , no cluster)
    Yes.
    We have your same configuration (two independent FMW Linux machines), and we use run_report_object to run all our reports. Some time ago, for reasons that I don't detail here, we had to stop one of the reports servers, and we used the other one, with no problems at all.
    The reports server name is unique within the network, and you can use any reports server that is visible by
    rwdiag.sh -findAll

  • Printing a Oracle PDF Report from within a Oracle Form on Linux

    Is there a command I can use in Oracle Forms to invoke a shell script to open a PDF output report stored on a physical location on the Linux server and print it to the printer?
    What I'm currently trying to do is send a Report called within Oracle Forms 10g to "DESTYPE=FILE DESFORMAT=PDF DESNAME=directory/filename.pdf". I'm storing all the information about the file and printer information prior to it being run with the RUN_REPORT_OBJECT. What I want to happen is as soon as it finishes generating the file, I want (behind the scenes) is it to locate the file, open, and print it automatically, but never show the output to the user on the screen.
    I know with the "DESTYPE=cache DESNAME=filename DESFORMAT=PDF" that it puts the info in the Reports Server / Cache directory, but also opens it in a separate browser window of which you can select the printer at that point. I don't want to do that in this option.
    I previously tried to use the "DESTYPE=printer" option but, the issue with it has to deal with fonts. I do not want to store fonts on every printer, given the different types of printers our users have. I can print to the printer but the fonts are all messed up so, not an option.
    So, basically I'm trying to replace that option with generating to a PDF, then I don't have to worry about fonts, since I have them all working, then I can just open the PDF file on the server and send to the printer. I was wondering if that is an option available in Oracle Forms when calling reports. I figured that when someone sends the option of "DESTYPE=printer" that it must be calling some shell script on Linux that handles this. I'm just not seeing it.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Chris

    Ok, one final question because I want to see how far this can go.
    Can I issue this command via the HOST inside the form? Basically I'm telling it to open and send the file to the printer. The vFileName is the directory/filename stored on the Linux Server. I can execute this command on the command line of Linux and it works
    HOST( 'lpr -P gt-ybs-ps /u11/app/as10g/tools/web/html/pc_rp00120100210035258.pdf');
    I promise this is my last quesion.

  • Command to open a PDF generated Oracle Report in New browser window

    I know this is probably something for the Oracle Forums but I'll ask anyway because I can't find any info out there on this, without some extra work.
    I am generating a PDF file from 10g Oracle reports on Linux RHEL 5 and storing the PDF file to the server. I can send that PDF file directly to a printer with the "lpr" command and that part works fine.
    What I'm wanting to do now is "View" the PDF from within the server in a new window. We are using RHEL 5 (Linux) platform and I'm trying to see if there is a way to open the file with a "command line" command that will open it in a new browser window or new window period (opening it with Adobe Acrobat).
    Does anyone have a command that will do this? Otherwise, how has everyone else been handling this. The idea of just viewing the previously generated PDF Report file will save us overhead on our database servers because they won't have to re-run some of the same reports over and over.
    Any help and assistance is appreciated.
    Chris

    Several options:
    - If you only want to show the pdf to the client without printing, use destype=cache and use WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT after the RUN_REPORT_OBJECT (for examples search the forms-forum, there are lots)
    -If you have to generate the pdf to a file to get it printed, you could
    +use WEBUTIL_FILETRANSFER.AS_TO_CLIENT after the printing to transfer the file to the client, then use CLIENT_HOST to view it.
    +map the appserver-directory you generate the report to as a virtual directory in the application-server then use WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT to directly access the generated file via url.

  • How to create the trace file using run_report_object at runtime

    Dear All
    using :
    Oracel Application Server 10g
    Oracle Database 11g

    I'm using run_report_object to call a report inside the form. THis report is running OK from reports builder, however it's too slow when run from Application server.
    How Can I create a trace file (at runtime) that contains the time spent in sql and formating the layout of the report ??
    Here is My code :

    IF rep_status = 'FINISHED' THEN
    V1:='/reports/rwservlet/getjobid'||substr(v_rep,instr(v_rep,'_',-1)+1);
    WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT('/reports/rwservlet/getjobid'||substr(v_rep,instr(v_rep,'_',-1)+1)||'?server='||REPORT_SERVER_NAME,'_blank');
    END IF;
    Thanks a lot

    Slow running reports often are not the result of a flawed report, but rather a flawed configuration. For example:
    1. If you call your reports (from Forms) via the default or inProcess Reports Server, often because startup time is slow, it will appear that it took too long for the report to be delievered. Using a stand-alone Rep Server is the preferred way to do this.
    2. If your Forms application makes numerous calls to RRO (RUN_REPORT_OBJECT), this can tend to result in what might appear as a memory leak (although it is not). The result is delayed processing because of the excessive memory use. This problem has been overcome in Forms/Reports 11 by the use of JVM pooling. However in v10 enabling "6i compatibility" mode is the way to overcome the issue. See Note 266073.1
    3. If the report runs fine from the Builder and it is connecting to the same db as when you run it from App Server, the issue is unlikely a db problem. However, if you want to look anyway, enable sqlnet tracing.
    4. To enable Reports tracing and investigate other tuning options, refer to the Reports 10 documentation:
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B14099_11/bi.1012/b14048/pbr_tune.htm
    Almost forgot to mentioned this one....
    If you are using a v11 db with App Server 10, you will probably want to consider reviewing Note 1099035.1 as it discusses an issue related to performance with such a configuration.

  • How to view RUN_REPORT_OBJECT buil-in package source code

    Ps help.

    You can't see source code of this package.
    You can use srw package. Please see the following link.

  • RUN_REPORT_OBJECT does not return  a value

    I am using Reports 6i (via web browser) on an Oracle 8 database.
    We have just recreated our entire development database. When running a report from a form, the web browser pops up with a blank screen. No changes has been done to the code. None of the reports now work on our dev environment.
    However, I have now found that RUN_REPORT_OBJECT is not retirning a value. What would cause RUN_REPORT_OBJECT not to return a value?
    My code behind the button on the form that calls the report is as follows:
              report_id := find_report_object('nl4689');
              f_file_name := :illprint.report_number||'.lis';
              html_file_name := :illprint.report_number||'.html';
              set_report_object_property(report_id,report_execution_mode,batch);
              set_report_object_property(report_id,report_comm_mode,synchronous);
              set_report_object_property(report_id,report_destype,file);
              set_report_object_property(report_id,report_desname,:global.user_home_dir||f_file_name);
              set_report_object_property(report_id, report_other,
              'p_branch='||:b1.branch_code||
              ' p_class='||:b1.p_class);
         report_job_id := RUN_REPORT_OBJECT(report_id);
              host('txt2htmlhpux '||:global.user_home_dir||f_file_name||' > '||:global.user_home_dir||html_file_name);
              web.show_document(:global.user_home_dir||html_file_name,'_BLANK');
    Thanks

    That is set correctly. All these applications were working fine. We only have this issue after re-building our development environment.
    I have personally run the application and noticed that there are error messages as well.
    When getting the report id from RUN_REPORT_OBJECT, the following error appears
    REP-0004: Warning: Unable to open user preference file.
    Immeditely followed by:
    REP-3002: Error initializing printer. Please make sure a printer is installed.

  • RUN_REPORT_OBJECT is super slow

    Red Hat 8, Oracle 10g Developer(9.0.4.2)
    same report, same parameters using rwrun from the command line takes 13 seconds to complete. (591 pages, DESTYPE=FILE).
    When calling from the web with RUN_REPORT_OBJECT after 10 minutes hangs after getting to page 391, consistently.
    2 problems, report hangs, and even if it finished, report takes more than 50 times the completion time of the command line call!
    Have checked <repserver>.conf file and web.xml <session timeout> parameters.
    Any report that completes in under 10 minutes is fine.

    What kind of performance do you see if you run the report over the web via rwservlet?

    Hi Galia,
    You must create REPORT OBJECT in the form and
    create .rdf file from Report builder separately
    Here is a sample code, may be it helps.
    DECLARE
         rep_id NUMBER;
         report_id REPORT_OBJECT;
         alert_button NUMBER;
         rep_parform VARCHAR2(255);
         rep_form VARCHAR2(255);
         report_status VARCHAR2(255);
         rep_job_id VARCHAR2(255);
    BEGIN
    report_id := FIND_REPORT_OBJECT('REPORT');--Must be created in form under node "Reports"
    SET_REPORT_OBJECT_PROPERTY(report_id,REPORT_FILENAME,'C\Oracle..\Reports..\...\report_num1.rdf');
    rep_job_id := RUN_REPORT_OBJECT(report_id);
    report_status := REPORT_OBJECT_STATUS(rep_job_id);
    WHILE report_status in ('RUNNING','OPENING_REPORT','ENQUEUED')
    LOOP
    report_status := REPORT_OBJECT_STATUS(rep_job_id);
    END LOOP;

    Jitesh ([email protected])

    You can use RUN_REPORT_OBJECT with CACHE type, and WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT to view the document on the screen.
    In the Forms help you should find examples.
    If you have access to Metalink, have a look at Note:207396.1.

  • Oracle Reports Server CGI - Report Job was cancelled upon user request.

    I am running reports on the web through Forms using Run_Report_Object built in. I am using Oracle 9iAS Enterprise Edition Release 1(1.2.2.2.2), Forms 6i Patch 9 (6.0.8.18.3) and Reports 6i Patch 9 (6.0.8.18) using CGI implementation. Most reports are running fine, but I have one that produces 125 pages and we are getting the following messages in the browser:
    Error: The requested URL was not found, or cannot be served at this time.
    Oracle Reports Server CGI - Report Job was cancelled upon user request.
    However if you look at the Reports Server Queue Status thru the browser it shows that the report did finish, but it took 16 minutes. But the user gets the above message in their browser window.
    Is there a way to get the first page of the report to display, while the rest of the report finishes, so the browser window doesn't timeout and display the above error?
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    hi ,
    There is no limit on the report run time. The most probable reason why you are getting the 'Report cancelled upon user request' message is the users might have hit the "cancel Report" button which is displayed when it is running in 'SYNCHRONOUS MODE'. do not hit that button as it will terminate the report. to increase the speed of returning the results by the report, try improving the sql that you use in the report, or if you have DBA rights try adding in INDEXES on the columns of the tables used by the report.
    Hope this helps
    Manoj
