Oracle - Segments error
Hi,
I am using NW2004s BI7, Windows 2003 server, Oracle 10g, Having problem in DB02 shows segments errors and some others errors... could you please tell me how and where may I fix that problem

Regards,
Hello Angeline,
The errors/warnings are expected in DB02 where check conditions have been set in table DBCHECKORA, sap note # 483856. The table can be updated with transaction DB17. The real issue is whether the errors/warnings are "true". You can check this yourself for example in the second screen shot you have missing stats for table "SAPSR3./BIC/B0000011000" and also ORA-01653 which indicates a tablespace overflow which can be solved using oss note #3155. It is also a good idea to have latest brtools patch level installed to avoid any bugs which could lead to incorrect or unjustified alerts in DB02/Dbacockpit transaction. At any time you can deactivate or delete checks via DB17 (Active = "N") in DBCHECKORA table, or in 10g if you have problems with incorrect alerts, you can reset the entire contents of the table DBCHECKORA to the standard SAP settings by importing the SQL script dbcheckora10_oltp.sql or dbcheckora10_olap.sql. For more information, see Note 403704 (the scripts are attached to this note).

Though we have around 140GB memory available and 65GB on the shmmax, we are unable to increase the PermSize to any thing more than 14GB. When I changed it to PermSize=15359, I am getting following error.

Regards,
RajThose parameters look ok for a 100GB shared memory segment. Also check the following:
ulimit - a mechanism to restrict the amount of system resources a process can consume. Your instance administrator user, the user who installed Oracle TimesTen needs to be allocated enough lockable memory resource to load and lock your Oracle TimesTen shared memory segment.
This is configured with the memlock entry in the OS file /etc/security/limits.conf for the instance administrator.
To view the current setting run the OS command
$ ulimit -l
and to set it to a value dynamically use
$ ulimit -l <value>.
Once changed you need to restart the TimesTen master daemon for the change to be picked up.
$ ttDaemonAdmin -restart
Beware sometimes ulimit is set in the instance administrators "~/.bashrc" or "~/.bash_profile" file which can override what's set in /etc/security/limits.conf
If this is ok then it might be related to Hugepages. If TT is configured to use Hugepages then you need enough Hugepages to accommodate the 100GB shared memory segment. TT is configured for Hugepages if the following entry is in the /u01/app/oracle/EXALYTICS_MWHOME/TimesTen/tt1122/info/ttendaemon.options file:
-linuxLargePageAlignment 2
So if configured for Hugepages please see this example of how to set an appropriate Hugepages setting:
Total the amount of memory required to accommodate your TimesTen database from /u01/app/oracle/EXALYTICS_MWHOME/TimesTen/tt1122/info/sys.odbc.ini
PermSize+TempSize+LogBufMB+64MB Overhead
For example consider a TimesTen database of size:
PermSize=250000 (unit is MB)
TempSize=100000
LogBufMB=1024
Total Memory = 250000+100000+1024+64 = 351088MB
The Hugepages pagesize on the Exalytics machine is 2048KB or 2MB. Therefore divide the total amount of memory required above in MB by the pagesize of 2MB. This is now the number of Hugepages you need to configure.
351088/2 = 175544
As user root edit the /etc/sysctl.conf file
Add/modify vm.nr_hugepages= to be the number of Hugepages calculated.
vm.nr_hugepages=175544
Add/modify vm.hugetlb_shm_group = 600
This parameter is the group id of the TimesTen instance administrator. In the Exalytics system this is oracle. Determine the group id while logged in as oracle with the following command. In this example it’s 600.
$ id
$ uid=700(oracle) gid=600(oinstall) groups=600(oinstall),601(dba),700(oracle)
As user root edit the /etc/security/limits.conf file
Add/modify the oracle memlock entries so that the fourth field equals the total amount of memory for your TimesTen database. The unit for this value is KB. For example this would be 351088*1024=359514112KB
oracle hard memlock 359514112
oracle soft memlock 359514112
THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT in order for the above changes to take effect you to either shutdown the BI software environment including TimesTen and reboot or issue the following OS command to make the changes permanent.
$ sysctl -p
Please note that dynamic setting (including using 'sysctl -p') of vm.nr_hugepages while the system is up may not give you the full number of Hugepages that you have specified. The only guaranteed way to get the full complement of Hugepages is to reboot.
Check Hugepages has been setup correctly, look for Hugepages_Total
$ cat /proc/meminfo | grep Huge
Based on the example values above you would see the following:
HugePages_Total: 175544
HugePages_Free: 175544 -
836: Cannot create data store shared-memory segment, error 22
Hi,
I am hoping that there is an active TimesTen user community out there who could help with this, or the TimesTen support team who hopefully monitor this forum.
I am currently evaluating TimesTen for a global investment organisation. We currently have a large Datawarehouse, where we utilise summary views and query rewrite, but have isolated some data that we would like to store in memory, and then be able to
report on it through a J2EE website.
We are evaluating TimesTen versus developing our own custom cache. Obviously, we would like to go with a packaged solution but we need to ensure that there are no limits in relation to maximum size. Looking through the documentation, it appears that the
only limit on a 64bit system is the actual physical memory on the box. Sounds good, but we want to prove it since we would like to see how the application scales when we store about 30gb (the limit on our UAT environment is 32gb). The ultimate goal is to
see if we can store about 50-60gb in memory.
Is this correct? Or are there any caveats in relation to this?
We have been able to get our Data Store store 8gb of data, but want to increase this. I am assuming that the following error message is due to us not changing the /etc/system on the box:
836: Cannot create data store shared-memory segment, error 22
703: Subdaemon connect to data store failed with error TT836
Can somebody from the User community, or an Oracle Times Ten support person recommend what should be changed above to fully utilise the 32gb of memory, and the 12 processors on the box.
Its quite a big deal for us to bounce the UAT unix box, so l want to be sure that l have factored in all changes that would ensure the following:
* Existing Oracle Database instances are not adversely impacted
* We are able to create a Data Store which is able fully utilise the physical memory on the box
* We don't need to change these settings for quite some time, and still be able to complete our evaluation
We are currently in discussion with our in-house Oracle team, but need to complete this process before contacting Oracle directly, but help with the above request would help speed this process up.
The current /etc/system settings are below, and l have put in the current machines settings as comments at the end of each line.
Can you please provide the recommended settings to fully utilise the existing 32gb on the box?

I work for Oracle in the UK and I manage the TimesTen pre-sales support team for EMEA.
Your main problem here is that the value for shmsys:shminfo_shmmax in /etc/system is currently set to 8 Gb therby limiting the maximum size of a single shared memory segment (and hence Timesten datastore) to 8 Gb. You need to increase this to a suitable value (maybe 32 Gb in your case). While you are doing that it would be advisable to increase ny of the other kernel parameters that are currently lower than recommended up to the recommended values. There is no harm in increasing them other possibly than a tiny increase in kernel resources, but with 32 GB of RAM I don't think you need be concerned about that...
You should also be sure that the system has enough swap space configured to supprt a shared memory segment of this size. I would recommend that you have at least 48 GB of swap configured.
TimesTen should detect that you have a multi-CPU machine and adjust its behaviour accordingly but if you want to be absolutely sure you can set SMPOptLevel=1 in the ODBC settings for the datastore.
If you want more direct assistance with your evaluation going forward then please let me know and I will contact you directly. Of course, you are free to continue using this forum if you would prefer.

ERROR: ORACLE prepare error: ORA-00936: missing expression
Hello,
I am required to run "pass-through" Oracle SQL, to extract data from tables into SAS for processing and manipulation. My code (attached) reads and writes (executes) but with zero records to test first. I cannot get past the Prepare Error.
The query is very much like other queries that seem to work, but I cannot get past this prepare error. I have no other access to individauls with adequate knowledge of PL SQL, and as a last stop hoped others in the forum could quickly spot the source of errror.
Thanks very much in advance for any assistance.

184Hello Again ,
Wish Oracle was a bit more informative. Am using a SAS Institute Product called Enterprise Guide. A "hot fix" was installed to address an issue that the product appears unable to save the latest version of edited code changes (hence " BETWEEN between" remaining even after a prior edit). In any case, with the change, am now receiving this error:
" ERROR: ORACLE prepare error: ORA-00904: "PHRMCY_CLM_FACT"."LAST_SRVC_DT": invalid identifier". (Log file appears below)
-The error remains, regardless of whether one uses "pass through" code to pass the date range to Oracle (which looks ok from the log output below I believe), or if I hard code the date range into the PL SQL query itself.
-The Prepare error always appears at end of the inner SELECT.
-The Prepare error remains, with or without the GROUP BY clause.
Is there anything else here I am missing? Someone suggested a reserve word - but from other ANSI SQL versions, I do not see that is the case. I have consulted SAS Tech Support and SAS List Serve at University of GA. but nothing definitive from these sources. Have requested facility to be able to run Oracle directly, outside this SAS Institute product - in process.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks to everyone very much.
Jeff

i am able to check the database from sqlplus it is working fine.
Any suggestion highly appreciated plzzzMake sure your connection pool is valid and able to import or execute reports.
If everything good as above said, in Physical layer database properties-> general tab choose the database version and try it once.
If not
Check the doc id 1271486.1
Or
To resolve the issue create a softlink (ln -s) in the <OracleBI>/server/Bin folder to link to the 32-bit Oracle Client Driver file.
The example below shows how to perform a softlink from the 64 bit directory:
cd /u10/app/orcladmin/oracle/OracleBI/server/Bin
ln -s $ORACLE_HOME/lib32/libclntsh.so.10.1 libclntsh.so.10.1

Oracle SSO error while trying to access a report
Hi All,
I am using Oracle 11g reports and forms.My adf application(using JDeveloper 11.1.1.4) will use oracle reports through url.
From adf application we form a url for the reports like https://<server>:<port>/reports/rwservlet?server=devstage11g&destype=cache&desformat=pdf&report=spore001…
we send the userid parameter as a hidden parameter in the request as we do not want the userid information to be visible in the URL. It works fine in one environment. But in another environment when we hit the url it always give a page with a single line saying "Oracle SSO". When we hit the same url with userid parameter appended to it directly, it works fine.
Checked the configuration difference, but not able to find any difference in the configuration. Please help me to find why it always gives "Oracle SSO" error.
Thanks,

Oracle Internal error while executing sys objects
Hi,
I recently restored an oracle 9i database from datafiles I received from client.
I am consistently getting the following error whenever I try to open a new sqlplus session.

After search I found some references to recreate the sys objects by running standard sqls like CATALOG.SQL, CATPPROC.SQL etc. While running these SQLs as well I am getting oracle "Internal Errors".
I tries re-creating many sys packages and am consistently getting these errors. It looks to me I have problem while accessing procedures in all sys packages. I checked, all the packages are valid and have EXECUTE priviledge to PUBLIC.

Hi,

I am following this step: http://download.oracle.com/otn_hosted_doc/timesten/1121/quickstart/html/admin/cache_grid_create.html
I am in the step 4: 4. Associate the Oracle Cache Administration user with the Cache Database

The command failed.
What seems to be the issue?
I referenced this link: http://download.oracle.com/otn_hosted_doc/timesten/1121/doc/timesten.1121/e13069/proced.htm#TTREF237
And on the notes it says:
Notes
This procedure cannot be called from a Client/Server connection.
This procedure is available only for IMDB Cache.
The cache administration user ID and password cannot be set while either the cache agent or the replication agent are running.
The cache administration user ID cannot be reset while there are ASYNCHRONOUS WRITETHROUGH cache groups or AUTOREFRESH cache groups (with a state that is not equal to OFF) on the database.
What does: This procedure cannot be called from a Client/Server connection mean?
Is this the root cause of the problem or I am missing a step?

[Microsoft][ODBC driver for Oracle]Syntax error or access violation
Hi,
When I am trying to connect to Oracle 8.1.6 database using Microsoft ODBC driver for Oracle. The connection is established.
But while creating CallableStatement, I am getting error "[Microsoft][ODBC driver for Oracle]Syntax error or access violation".
What I need to do to resolve this problem.
RajHi Satish
It could be an issue with the driver.
You can try with the OLEDB n Oracle native connection to test if the issue persists.
Also you can refer to the [Troubleshooting Database Connectivity for Crystal Reports|http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/boc/index?rid=/library/uuid/d05b3bb7-0f28-2c10-4ea3-84dbdc4e414e&overridelayout=true]
Hope this helps!!

ORACLE LOG ERRORS - Bug in oracle??
Hi,
we are using oracle log errors to capture oversized err records for varchar2 type fields. Sql is something like:
INSERT INTO abc (col1,col2) VALUES ('asdsass','weqwewqee') LOG ERRORS INTO abc_err('1') REJECT LIMIT UNLIMITED;
But, data captured in abc table is trimmed data. Right spaces present in source are being trimmed by oracle while capturing this error table. I have the following queries:

Oracle Internal Error????
Hi,
I am getting the following error in PL/SQL procedure in which i have used XMLDB.
ERROR:
ORA-21500: internal error code, arguments: [%s], [%s], [%s], [%s], [%s], [%s],
[%s], [%s]
What does that mean? more importantly how do resolve this error?21500, 00000, "internal error code, arguments: [%s], [%s], [%s], [%s], [%s], [%s], [%s], [%s]"
// *Cause: This is the generic error number for the OCI
// environment (client-side) internal errors. This indicates
// that the OCI environment has encountered an exceptional
// condition.
// *Action: Report as a bug - the first argument is the internal error number.I find it a tad weird that you get this error from a PL/SQL procedure? Are you sure it is that procedure that is throwing the exception?
From the error message description it sounds like the error should come from your local OCI (Oracle Call Interface) client driver.
How are you executing the procedure? From Java, Pro*C, something else? Have you tested the procedure call using SQL*Plus?
If this is a server-side error (despite what the error message details above say), there should be a record of this error (as with all internal Oracle server errors) in the alert log of that instance.
Have you checked the alert log? Is there an error? What does it say? (please post the error details here)
Has a trace file been generated? (the alert log will list that too) If so, have you edited the trace file and looked at the header in the file? It often contains useful data, such as the SQL that caused the error dump.
PS. Why did you post the problem here? An internal Oracle error has very little do with the SQL and PL/SQL languages, which are the subject matter of this forum. Posting this problem in the Database-General forum would have been more appropriate. -
