Oracle session Hangs while calling one package function

Hi all,
We are a facing a interesting scenario in our code. Consider that you have 2 pakcages(A,B). Ecah packages is having more than 5 functions in it.
1. A.function1() makes a call to B.function1() - is working fine
2 .B.function1() calls B.function2() - is working fine
3. B.function2() calls A.function2() - oracle session hangs in this call.
If I copy the scropt code from A.function2() and inline (put) it in B.function1() , the execution gets completed without an issue.
If i run the A.function2() seperatly it works fine. Only calling from B package it is failing.
If anyone knows the rooot cause of the issue, please let me know.
Thanks and regards,
Vijayaraja

Do you have/use global variables?
Moving code from one package to another doesn’t necessarily result in logically equivalent programs. In the version of your program which “hangs” you may have crafted an infinite loop. Instrument your code and see if you really stall or just keep going on forever.
With this kind of cross-dependencies in your libraries you almost ask for trouble.

• Calling a package function inside a sql

Hi friends!!!
First of all happy Christmas! And them please help! :)
We have a query calling a package function:
SELECT * FROM DW025H WHERE DW025H_NR=MPPCI.ENCR ('0000000000000000');There is a primary key just with one column DW025H_NR and the problem is that is not accessing by INDEX UNIQUE SCAN,
it's accessing by TABLE ACCESS FULL.
May be the problem is that we are calling a procedure inside the query?
I have been able to run that query accessing by primary key from my computer but a workmate hasn't!
We both are connecting the same data base 10.2.0.4 and using Oracle SQL Developer!
| Id | Operation | Name | Rows | Bytes | Cost (%CPU)| Time |
| 0 | SELECT STATEMENT | | 5343K| 1406M| 15670 (7)| 00:02:43 |
|* 1 | VIEW | DW025H | 5343K| 1406M| 15670 (7)| 00:02:43 |
|* 2 | FILTER | | | | | |
| 3 | TABLE ACCESS FULL| DW025H | 5343K| 1406M| 15670 (7)| 00:02:43 |
Predicate Information (identified by operation id):

2 - filter(CASE "OPS$SISINFO"."IS_USER_DNI"() WHEN 1 THEN
SYS_AUDIT('OPS$SISINFO','DW025H','CMINFOGR001',3) ELSE NULL END IS
NULL)
The correct path would be:
| Id | Operation | Name | Rows | Bytes | Cost (%CPU)| Time |
| 0 | SELECT STATEMENT | | 1 | 276 | 3 (0)| 00:00:01 |
|* 1 | FILTER | | | | | |
| 2 | TABLE ACCESS BY INDEX ROWID| DW025H | 1 | 276 | 3 (0)| 00:00:01 |
|* 3 | INDEX UNIQUE SCAN | PK_DW025H | 1 | | 2 (0)| 00:00:01 |
Predicate Information (identified by operation id):
1 - filter(CASE "OPS$SISINFO"."IS_USER_DNI"() WHEN 1 THEN

Hello
Have a read of this and try to pull together the information in it and post it up here. That will help immensely with getting to the root of your problem...
HOW TO: Post a SQL statement tuning request - template posting
In the mean time:
From the execution plan you have extra predicates that aren't present in the query you supplied, so that's either not the SQL or you have something like VPD switched on.
Anyway, there could be lots of reasons for the difference in execution plan. Sorry if this is very basic and possibly patronising question but it's always worth checking the basics I think - are you both definitely connecting to the same database? If so, have a look in v$sqlarea for this SQL statement and find the SQL_ID, use this to query v$sql and look at the child_number column.
select
sql_id
from
v$sqlarea
where
sql_text like '%SELECT * FROM DW025H WHERE DW025H_NR=MPPCI.ENCR%(''0000000000000000'')%'
and
sql_text not like '%v$sqlarea%'
select child_number from v$sql where sql_id='<enter the sql id returned by the query above>'as an example...
XXXX> select /* my sql statement*/ rownum id from dual;
ID
1
1 row selected.
Elapsed: 00:00:00.10
XXXX> select sql_id from v$sqlarea where sql_text like '%my sql statement%'
and sql_text not like '%v$sqlarea%';
SQL_ID
a6ss4v79udz6g
1 row selected.
Elapsed: 00:00:03.56
XXXX> select child_number from v$sql where sql_id='a6ss4v79udz6g'
2 /
CHILD_NUMBER
0
1 row selected. If you have more than one row in v$sql there could be differences in the optimiser environment. The supplied like shows you how to gather the information that should help find what the differences are if any.
Also as a side note if you're calling PL/SQL functions from SQL, you can take advantage of subquery caching to help reduce the number of calls (depending on your version). As it stands, your function is most likely going to be called for every row - when there is only a single row returned, that's not necessarily a problem but for multiple rows, the overhead can quickly grow. If there's no way to get rid of the function call, select the function from dual instead i.e.
SELECT * FROM DW025H WHERE DW025H_NR= (SELECT MPPCI.ENCR%('0000000000000000') FROM dual);This also (as I learnt a couple of weeks ago) works when you're using columns in the table your selecting from as parameters to the function.

• Calling public package functions and variables through dblink

Is it possible to call a global public variable in a package in one database from another package procedure in another database using a database link? If so, could you let me know the syntax? Same question for package functions.

Hi,
check this documentation link especially the stmt...
http://www.mcs.csueastbay.edu/support/oracle/doc/10.2/appdev.102/b14251/adfns_packages.htm#i1007858
You cannot access remote package variables and constants.May be you can write a function in the remote db which when called will return the variable value.
for calling remote package functions...
syntax from documentation is [[schema.]package.]function_name[@dblink][(param_1...param_n)]
an example given in the above link for this...
EXECUTE fire_emp1@boston_server(1043);

• Getting session hang When calling Function from SQL query

Hi All,
I am using Oracle 8.1.7.4.0. I have a fucntion in a Package and I am calling it from the SQL query. When I am firing the query my oracle session is going to hang position and I am not able to any thing. I have to kill the session.
But this same thing is working fine in Oracle 9.i.
There are no out parameter and no DML, DDL and DCL statement in this fucntion.
Could you please get back me what is the problem on it.
Regards
SUN

Check why your session hangs.
Just a few ideas:
* Blocking locks?
* Endless loop?
* Performance (maybe it is just slow in orac8i and you have to wait a bit longer). Check the execution plans of the SQL statements in your function.
* Don't use a function, but direct SQL, it is faster in both versions.

• Problem while calling an RFC Function Module in Background

Hello,
I have created a RFC function module for reading data from an external DB system. The FM calls an external RFC program (coded in C++ using RFC SDK), which delivers the required data. This external program is maintainged as an TCP RFC Connection in SM59.
Further I have created a report, that calls the RFC function module to get the data from the external RFC programm.
My problem is, when I call the report in foreground, everything works OK, the RFC connection works and data can be read from the external program.
However, when I schedule the report to run in background as a job, the report is stating in the protocoll that there was a problem calling the defined RFC connection (although the connection is working properly at that time).
More funny is, this particular problem with running in background occurs only in the productive system, in test and development system the report works correctly also while running as a job in background.
Can you suggest the solution to this problem? Could it be something with authorisations or server settings?
I will be on holiday for the next 6 weeks, so take your time to answer .
Regards,
Dusan.

Please read the forum rules about u r g e n t ...

This is an external RFC server program, not a remote enabled ABAP RFC function module as the others seem to be assuming, right?
Is it possible that your DEV and QAS systems only have one application server, but the PROD has many and dedicated one(s) for processing low priority background jobs?
It might be that the target server of your TCP connection is not this BTC instance, and your RFC server is returning the data "locally" - so, into nirvana...
Just guessing, but might be worth checking.
Cheers,

I am pass the correct XML file which reaches the RDB and then PI receives a exception error message saying:
oracle.rdb.jdbc.common.RdbException: Closed Resultset
where as no error log is availble in RBD for the same.
Can anybody tell me what can be the cause of the error.
Let me know if you requires more information on this.

Hi Kiran,
Thanks..
But I am not able to understand you. I am calling a store procedure not a table. and we not doing anything in the store procedure except return one constant value in Out parameter.

Regards,
dbajugHave you created the package with a case sensitive name i.e. did you put double quotes around it?
select owner, object_name from all_objects where upper(object_name) = 'PKG_BB_TEMP';The owner should show as "BB" and the object_name should be in upper case (hopefully). If it's not upper case then it's been created case sensitive and you you'll have to either recreate the package without using double quotes around the name or make sure you always reference the package with double quotes and the case exact version of the name.
e.g.
GRANT EXECUTE ON "PKG_bb_temp" TO <user>;Hopefully, you are not running your other code as SYS, so you should ensure you grant permission to the correct user, not to SYS.

I am calling a package from Pro*c and getting numberic overflow error ORA-1426 but when i introduce a debug message such as printf or calling standard oracle utility to write in a log file no error comes. So how just introduction of debug messages is resolving the error.Can any one throw some light on it, whether it is some kind of synchronization issue or something else
Regards

Pretty hard to guess here since you're not providing any sample code.
However:
"Internally, PL/SQL assigns the values of the bounds to temporary PLS_INTEGER variables, and, if necessary, rounds the values to the nearest integer. The magnitude range of a PLS_INTEGER is -2147483648 to 2147483647, represented in 32 bits. If a bound evaluates to a number outside that range, you get a numeric overflow error when PL/SQL attempts the assignment. "

• Calling a package function in the data template

Hello All,
I am not able to understand the concept of calling a function from the data template.

Is it possible to call a specific package function as shown above in a select statement?
I am getting the message "ORA-00933: SQL command not properly ended" when I tried with the above. Could you pls. point out what the error is in the above sqlStatement?
1) My instance is R12.1.3
2) The base pkg function 'xla_tb_ap_report_pvt.get_period_name' expects a number to be passed in as 'IN' parameter.
Thanks,

I tried another version of the sql statement (after going through some older posts) like:
<sqlStatement name="Q_SEL">
<![CDATA[ Select xla_tb_ap_report_pvt.get_period_name(1) PERIOD_NAME
from dual]]>
</sqlStatement>
My group is :
<group name="G_PERIOD_NAME" source="Q_SEL">
<element name="PERIOD_NAME" value="PERIOD_NAME"/>
</group>
Now getting the error message:
ORA-00904: xla_tb_ap_report_pvt.get_period_name : invaild identifier
What is it that i am doing wrong?

• Is it possible to call one mathscript function from another?

HI iam bahrath..i need call the operation takin place in one mathscript in another..is it possible?pls help..

Thanks for your concern..let me explain my project.Iam actually developing a system which provides the stress strain relationship of a material..For calculating strain which is nonlinear in this case we are using image processing techniques.We take a picture of the system initially with light markers and we find the centroid of all the markers(i use four of them).After the force is applied on the particle the centroid of the markers change as the marker positions change.I use this change in the centroid and calculate the strain.Now, 90% of the code is ready in matlab(jus capturing image and usin is needed).But i have been asked to implement it in labview.so iam tryin to put the code in mathscript and try.But the problem i face is incompatibility of many functions like imshow,input etc.so im implementin parts of the code inlabview mwthod and rest in mathscript.In matlab code i have two files and call the function in in another file from one file..thus i thought i might use two mathscripts and call one from the other..pls help.

• Oracle Query Performance While calling a function in a View

Hi,
We have a performance issue in one of our Oracle queries.
Here is the scenario
We use a hard coded value (which is the maximum value from a table) in couple of DECODE statements in our query. We would like to remove this hard coded value from the query. So we wrote a function which will return a maximum value from the table. Now when we execute the query after replacing the hard coded value with the function, this function is called four times which hampers the query performance.
Pl find below the DECODE statements in the query. This query is part of a main VIEW.
Using Hardcoded values
=================
DECODE(pro_risk_weighted_ctrl_scr, 10, 9.9, pro_risk_weighted_ctrl_scr)
DECODE(pro_risk_score, 46619750, 46619749, pro_risk_score)
Using Functions
============
DECODE (pro_risk_weighted_ctrl_scr, rprowbproc.fn_max_rcsa_range_values ('CSR'), rprowbproc.fn_max_rcsa_range_values('CSR')- 0.1, pro_risk_weighted_ctrl_scr)
DECODE (pro_risk_score, rprowbproc.fn_max_rcsa_range_values ('RSR'), rprowbproc.fn_max_rcsa_range_values ('RSR') - 1, pro_risk_score)
Can any one suggest a way to improve the performance of the query.
Thanks & Regards,
Raji

• Berkeley DB JE is getting hanged while calling environment sync method.

Hi,
I am developing an application in Java and I am using JE edition of Berkeley. I am facing an issue, during shutdown operation I am calling syn method of EntityStore class and Environment class.
The EntityStore.sync() is getting completed but during executing of Environment.sync() the control is not coming out of this statement. Below is the code that I am using to perform sync operation.
if (myEnv != null) {
try {
entityStore.sync(); //Calling sync method of Entity Store Class.
log.error("Finished Syncing of Entity Store");
myEnv.sync(); // Calling Sync method of Environment Class. Control is not coming out of this sync call.
log.error("Finished Syncing of Environment");
} catch (DatabaseException dbe) {
log.error("DataBase exception duing close operation ",dbe);
} catch (IllegalStateException ie) {
logger.fatal("Cursor not closed: ", ie);
During my unit testing I was changing system date and perfoming some db operation. While I during down the application the the above code gets executed but the system is getting hanged and control is not coming out of Environment sync method call. Can some one tell why the sync is causing the system to hang.
Thanks in advance.

Hello,
You did not mention the version of BDB JE. In any case for BDB JE questions the correct forum is at:
Berkeley DB Java Edition
Thanks,

• Urgent:Error While calling one form from another form

Hi,
i am using a form in which zoom functionality is enabled.From this form if i am clicking view->zoom it should open another form which should accept two parameters from the first form.But whenever i am clicking on zoom its giving the following error.
FRM-47023:No such parameter named G_QUERY_FIND exists in form
XX_EMPLOYEE_CONVERSION(Name of the form which i am calling from first form)
When i am clicking 'ok' then it shows the error
FRM-40105:Unable to resolve reference to item PARAMETER.G_QUERY_FIND
Eventhough i have developed my form using template.fmb which uses the parameter G_QUERY_FIND why this error is coming?
Can anyone suggest a solution for this.
Thanks in advance

PARAMETER.G_QUERY_FIND is one of he objects in the APPSTAND.fmb. You will need to Subclass all of the objects in APPSTAND.fmb in your custom form. If you do not have a copy of this file in your FORMS60_PATH, I suggest you put a copy there. If you don't have a FORMS60_PATH specified then I would highly suggest adding this entry to your Forms Home in the Registry. Also, you will want all of the libraries in the AU_TOP/Resources folder as well.
I also suggest looking at the Oracle Applications Developer's Guide (http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B25284_01/current/acrobat/115devg.pdf) as it outlines all of the required objects you must have in your form and reports.
Hope this helps.
