Oracle software installation issue

Hi All,
as part of my learning exercise I am trying to achieve this -
I have a Sun box (SPARC 64 bit) running on Solaris 10 where oracle software is already installed (as oracle user) and a test database is created.
What I want is to install oracle 10.2.01 and then upgrade to 10.2.05 in a isolated environment on same serve as different user.
For this I have created another user, given access to the location where oracle software is kept.
Login as newly created user. I declare & export ORACLE_HOME and then execute runInstaller I get permission error on orainventory directory!!
One way of resolving this issue I thought would be to put newly created user to same group as oracle (as oraInventory has 770 permission) but my sysadmin says try to create a completely isolated environment and do not touch existing oraInventory dir.
I am kind of stuck at the moment and was wondering if someone can help me or guide me to right direction/document
Your help is much appreciated.

All,
Thanks for all your help and suggestions. After a lot of reading documents, I came to realise that to create isolated environment, I need to specify different oraInst.loc parameter to runInstaller. So I created a oraInst.loc in $ORACLE_HOME and changed contents of this file to point to oraInventory directory which again I created in $ORACLE_HOME. Then ran runInstaller-
./runInstaller -invPtrLoc /rabi/oracle/product/10.2.0.1/db_1/oraInst.loc
oraInst.loc has -
inventory_loc=/rabi/oracle/product/10.2.0.1/db_1/oraInventory
inst_group=rabi
Installer starts off well. All checks are done. Gives warning that SWAP memory is less than recommended. I check the checkbox to ignore this warning.
Installation process starts and then hangs @83%
Last few lines of log file are -
location = /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/grid
name = oracle.rdbms
INFO:
Query Exception: HomeNotFoundException
Query Exception Class: class oracle.sysman.oii.oiil.OiilQueryException
INFO:
INFO: Setting variable 'b_ASMAlreadyUpgraded' to 'false'. Received the value from the variable calculation.
INFO: Calling Query ASMQueries10.2.0.1.0 IsRACASM
orahome_path = /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/grid
orahome_sid = +ASM
And I am kind of stuck at this point.
Has anyone come across this issue?
Thanks in advance.

    Welcome to the forums !
This issue has been discussed many times before. Pl use the search feature. The only versions supported in Win 7 (Professional or higher) are 10.2.0.5 and 11gR2. 10.2.0.5 is only available on My Oracle Support, while 11gR2 can be downloaded for free from http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/enterprise-edition/downloads/index.html

  • Oracle 9iAS Installation Issues, Win 2000

    Hi Folks,
    I'm trying to Install 9IAS on a WIN2000 PE.
I already have Oracle NT Personal Edition (download nt817personal), up and running.
My Question is do I need to use Oracle nt817ee (Enterprise Edition)
    Any suggestions ?
    Thanks

I agree with your 5 P's, but Oracle is killing themselves by not improving the installation issues. Oracle is in a fight to the death with Microsoft, and there are a lot of people who give up on Oracle products because the learning curve is too steep just to be able to login as Scott. I have a lot of experience with Windows and Oracle, and have installed the RDBMS on probably 50 separate machines in the last several years, yet I still cringe when I double click setup.exe since I never know if universal installer is going to abort. I'm not a Unix or Linux guru, and I tried and tried to get Oracle RDBMS 8i to install on several flavors of Red Hat, but I gave up. DB2 and Interbase both installed without the hassles. Take a look at the Linux forum on Technet, and look at the effort that some people are doing to try to get it to work. It should not be this hard. I would like to use Linux/Oracle on some of our servers, but frankly it is too hard currently. You shouldn't need a metal link account to install software on a clean install of Windows, or be a guru at writing device drivers for Linux to install Oracle on that platform.

  • Oracle Software Installation

I am connecting oracle thro telnet on solaris. I need to install fresh oracle software in sun solaris. GUI mode is required to install oracle.
What are the tools available installaing oracle from client.(GUI MODE INSTALLATION) from my windows local pc

I think X forwarding across SSH is much more complicated than VNC.Each solution have its advantages and disadvantages. Advantage of this solution is that you don't need running and properly configured X server on remote machine (Of course X server and X session occupied some memory). I personally preffer X11 forwarding for remote install when I'm installing Oracle (not just) products. Also I don't use VNC because passwords are sent by nonsecure way while X11 is going over SSH.

  • Oracle 10g Installation issue

While Installing Oracle 10g, I get the following warning
    Checking Network Configuration requirements ...

Problem: The install has detected that the primary IP address of the system is DHCP-assigned.
Recommendation: Oracle supports installations on systems with DHCP-assigned IP addresses; However, before you can do this, you must configure the Microsoft LoopBack Adapter to be the primary network adapter on the system. See the Installation Guide for more details on installing the software on systems configured with DHCP.

When I ignored this warning and proceeded with the installation tnsnames.ora was not getting created.
    Please help on this.

    Hi,
You need to configure the Loop Back Adapter on your system, Since ORACLE does not support the dynamic IP Address. Do the Loop Adapater the Problem will be solved.

  • HP LaserJet CM1415fmw software installation issue

    Hello.
I am having a problem with an HP LaserJet Pro CM1415fmw software installation. During the installation when the connect to printer stage is reached it takes a very long time to complete and fails with an error.
Kindly advise if you can help.
    Regards

    Hello Bsch,
    I invite you to:
1- Unistall/remove all the network printers installed by your PC
2- Unistall/remove all the drivers installed by your PC specially the HP Universal driver
3- Delete/remove all HP software files from your PC (C: / register..)
4- Disable the Antivirus(es) and the Firewall then download again the HP Full Solution Software corresponding to your OS
5- Disable the HP Smart install from the printer's menu (or from its Web page if you can connect it to network)
6- Disable the HP Web services (by default this feature is disabled, then just go through the panel menu and confirm that, here you use the printer by USb so no need for this feature)
7- Run/launch the installation by executing the setup file and be sure to maintain the printer unplugged to your PC, no USB connection at this step.
8- Run the OS/PC device manager to check/update the USB port/driver connection-add during the printer's USB plugging (you plug the USB cable to the printer when the installation guide asks you (3rd step))
9- Continue the installation and let's see if it can finish correctly and succeed without delay or error.
10- Check a Print test page, Fax feature and the Scan module.
Note: This can lead to a Full software installation, but if you just need a printing driver only you can try the same steps, although you will download and install an UPD Driver through a traditional mode (LPT1 port)
Try to use this method for the first time when the network printers are still installed and try to see if it goes fine otherwise you step for the steps given (1-10)
Please tell me what kind of OS you are running on your PC.
Please tell me if this procedure is helping, then if not I can provide you with a new solution.
Please upgrade the printer's firmware through USB connection if possible (or Ethernet like step5)
    Best regards

I also have: [Computer Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\System\Logon\Always wait for the network at computer startup and logon = enabled]

    Thanks,

    I think I just found a solution.
    As per this

Computer Configuration > Policies > Administrative Templates > System > Group Policy > Policy > Startup policy processing. Change from default to Enabled and 30 sec.
    Does the trick.

  • Oracle user installation issue

    I followed the instructions from
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E16655_01/install.121/e17752/usr_grps.htm#BACGFIFJ
on my Solaris 11.1 VirtualBox box.
    Since i used the Solaris 11.1 - Text install, i don't have a graphical interface (no X11)
i created an oracle user, as per the documentation instructions, using the command:
    # /usr/sbin/useradd -u 54321 -g oinstall -G dba,oper oracle
The instructions in the following section http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E16655_01/install.121/e17752/usr_grps.htm#BABBHHAD
say i should modify the .bash_profile file (which i assume is in the user's home directory)
The problem is that the oracle user created using the earlier command has no home directory. Actually, after logging in as oracle, i get the following message:
No directory! Logging in with home=/
    # grep oracle /etc/passwd
    oracle:x:54321:54321::/export/home/oracle:/usr/bin/bash
    but /export/home/oracle does not exist.
When i try to mkdir /home/oracle i get:
mkdir: Failed to make directory "/home/oracle"; Operation not applicable
Needless to say, i cannot follow the rest of the Installation guide since user oracle has no home.
I understand that this is mostly a Solaris admin question, but my issue is with the installation guide for not being clear about its assumptions, which is why i posted this here.
    Edit:
    some more output:
root@solaris:~# ps -alfe | grep auto

after some digging, i found that this is a known bug, included in Solaris 11.1's Release notes.
Funny thing, this bug is listed as "Previously Documented Bug, Fixed in Solaris 11.1
7070558 When the automount Service Is Disabled, useradd Creates Users With Inaccessible Home Directories

Finally found my answer in another document. Setting Up and Managing User Accounts by Using the CLI - Managing User Accounts and User Environments in Oracle Solaris …
Apparently, with Solaris 11.1 one must use the -d and the -m switches when creating a new local user.
So the correct command to have issued is this:
    /usr/sbin/useradd -u 54321 -g oinstall -G dba,oper -d localhost:/export/home/oracle -m oracle
Once the command was issued, the /export/home/oracle directory was created, (due to the -m switch), and because the user's home directory contains the hostname: part, this means that the /etc/auto_home file was updated.
Once i logged in into the oracle account, the /home/oracle directory was created by autofs.
The Oracle 12c documentation concerning the Solaris 11.1 OS should be updated to include the -d and -m switches.

  • Oracle BIEE installation issue: Application Server default OC4J name error

    Hi all,
I am installing OBIEE 10.1.3.3.2 windows 32bit version on windows 2003 sp2. Before the installation I have installed the JDK 5 and Application Server 10.1.3.1.0(J2EE Server and Web Server) on the same server according to the pre-install section in the OBIEE installation guide.
When I install OBIEE (advanced installation), I got the error when I specify the Oracle Application server location:
Please specify a valid Oracle Application Server 10g installation location. A valid Oracle Application Server 10g installation must have the default OC4J instance named home and that home OC4J instance must be enabled.
When I install the Application Server 10.1.3.1.0, I have change the default OC4J name to "oc4j-soa", I think this is the root reason I got the error. I have tried to create another OC4J instance named "home", but failed coz the name is used for another directory.
Then can I have another way to continue the installation? Why OBIEE installer have this strange constrain while not any words about this issue in the installation guide (coz I follow the each steps in the guild before I take action)? I have search some threads and the only information is to install a simple installation, but it would create another application server..... and the simple installation type is not what I want.
Can anybody give me some hint or information about this issue? otherwise I have to purge and reinstall the server...... Thanks
    Scott

Reinstalling the App Server and naming oc4j instance to be called "home" resolves the issue but this is an odd requirement. I have an OC4J instance already running and it is named something else. Is there any other alternative to make this work?
    Swapan.
PS. I can always create a new oc4j instance named "home" but this is wasting of server resources.

  • Software Installation Issues

I recently had a new boot hard drive installed in my G5. OS X 10.5.8 was reinstalled on the new drive and all my software and settings was transferred to the new HD using Migration Assistant. After that I found that many of my programmes didn't work properly (particularly Abobe CS3 programmes like Photoshop etc) so I needed to do fresh installs for those affected.
Recently, I've noticed that when I try and install a new programme (by dragging its Icon to the Applications folder after downloading a DMG), a message is displayed saying "the item (name of programme) can't be moved because "Applications" can't be modified." The message has a button called "Authenticate." Clicking on this allows the installation to proceed. Then once the installation has been completed, another message is displayed asking me to input my administrator password.
I also get issues when installing software, ie sometimes I need to do it several times before the software works properly (this occurred recently with Toast 10).
When installing software, I used to be only asked to input my admin password before a programme was installed and I was never asked to authenticate anything.
    I have tried repairing permissions.

Apologies, I posted the previous answer to your question by accident before I had finished typing: there doesn't appear to be a facility to edit posts once posted. My answer should have read:
Permissions on my applications take the form:
Most apps System: R&W; Admin: R&W: Everyone: R only
Adobe CS3 Pad (Me): R&W; Admin: R&W: Everyone: R only
One or two apps Pad (Me): R&W; Unknown: R only, Everyone: R only
The Applications folder and the System Folder have the following Permissions:
Applications System: R&W: Wheel: R only: Everyone: R only
System System: R&W: Wheel: R only: Everyone: R only
The Library and Users Folders have the following Permissions:
Library System: R&W: Admin: R&W: Everyone: R only
Users System: R&W; Admin: R only: Everyone: R only
Wheel is shown with a two person icon in the Info Window for the Applications folder, the same as Admin. I don't have a user called Wheel on my System. I am the only user. However, the person who installed the new boot hard drive and reinstalled OS X did create a new admin user when he did this. I added myself as Administrator afterwards and then deleted the user created by the engineer (I was told to do this).
As the Permissions on the actual applications seem to be as they should be, is there a reason why I shouldn't delete the User: Wheel from the Applications folder permissions and add either Admin or myself to the permissions list and set this for Read & Write? If this is OK should I also do this for the System folder?
Thanks for your answers so far.

    Hi All,
I have tried to Upgrade BlackBerry Desktop Manager from 3.6 to 4.7 version, and it is successfully upgrade to BlackBerry version 4.7. But the issue is, it shows both version in Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs.
Note: After installation rebooted the PC
    Example:
Control Panel --> Add/Remove Programs --> Currently installed Programs
    BlackBerry Desktop Manager 3.6
    BlackBerry Desktop Software 4.7
Kindly some please advice. Thanks... Shiva

the shortcut startup is the thing that adds (or not) the shortcut in the Startup menu, but the Desktop Manager starting at Windows start is stored in the registry.
I didn't bother to do all that, there is a clear option when you install the desktop manager that asks for automatic startup & automatic upgrade. I don't remember at which point (it's a shame, because I installed it less than 3 weeks ago and have already forgotten ! not eating enough fish), but it's there.
besides, I believe you can untick the option later, maybe in the Device Manager that is next to the windows clock.
