Oracle Text Search

Hi,
We have implemented Oracle Text Search in our Desktop application. Now it is searching in files available at Oracle Server system only.
How we can implement the search feature with following:
*1. Search files available at Mapped Drive or Netwrok Folder.*
*2. Generate Context of the Search text*
*3. Searching in .docx, .xlsx, .pptx etc*
Please share your valuable suggestion..
Version - Oracle 9i/10g.
Thanks
Remesh

You might want to look at the Ultra Search extension to Oracle Text.
It's part of the standard db license I believe.

• How to configure what is displayed in srfDocSnippet (Oracle Text Search)?

I am using UCM 10gR3 with SiteStudio 10gR4. I installed the Oracle Text Search component and it is working well. One of the requirements for a search results page is the specific layout of the data displayed. srfDocSnippet returns a really ugly display if the search result return is just metadata. I didn't find any documentation in UCM on how to configure this display.
How to you configure what is displayed in srfDocSnippet?
Thank you,

• Oracle Text Search Problem

hi,

usually this sort of thing occurs when the filters that you are using predate the release of acrobat involved. I don't know for sure the dates on your particular versions - and indeed you don't give us the db patch level - but a metalink search should reveal this.

• Oracle Text Search 9.2.0.7

Hello,
I need to enable Oracle Text Search a 9207 database. Is this a feature that I can enable within the currently running 9207. Or do I need to install this feature into the 9207 instance. If installed, which cd is the Text Search on, compainion cd? Thank you in advance.

Yes, you can enable this feature, the easiest way to do this is using dbca, at the configuration section, you can add this feature if database was manually created.
If database was cloned from a seed database it already has it installed and configured, you can start using it, as a reference check this: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/text.102/b14217/toc.htm

Can you let us know the config.cfg entry in your Environment for SearchIndexerEngineName.
Is it SearchIndexerEngineName= DATABASE.ORACLETEXTSEARCH ? It should be as below
SearchIndexerEngineName=ORACLETEXTSEARCH

• Highlite oracle text search terms

I have a report that I set up using the instructions for Oracle Text Application in APEX. It works very well however I have the actual document as a link and I would like the search terms highlighted in the actual document. Is there a way to do that in APEX?
I use this Region Source:
select score(1) relevance, filename, dbms_lob.getlength("DOCUMENT") Document, code_id
from documents
where contains (document, :P10_SEARCH, 1) > 0
order by 1 desc
I read something about using ctx_doc.snippet to highlight but can get that to work.
Any suggestions or can APEX highlight terms when the actual document is used?

'8265490,
Take a look at the ctx_doc.markup procedure. I think it will do what you want.

• Update Results not Displayed in Oracle Text search with Transactional Index

Hi,
I am working on a solution utilising Oracle Text to give me a probable list of matching records. The problem I have the table I am searching on is prepopulated with seed data and the application we are building is assigning a record and updating the details(columns) against it. This detail is what we are searching on using an Multi Column Datastore index which is refreshed every hr and also has the transactional parameter specified. Unfortunately the Transactional Index does not pick up the updated details, it only seems to work if I insert a new record (which will never happen). This to me sounds like a bug. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Barbara,
I think you may have eluded to my problem. I haven't updated the "dummy" column
The table structure is as follows:
CREATE TABLE WAGN (
WAGN VARCHAR2(8) NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY,
last_name          VARCHAR2(240),
first_name          VARCHAR2(240),
middle_name          VARCHAR2(240),
date_of_birth     DATE,
gender               VARCHAR2(1),
status               VARCHAR2(1) NOT NULL,
signature          RAW(64));
The preference creation is:
BEGIN
ctx_ddl.create_preference('WAGN_NAME_SRCH', 'MULTI_COLUMN_DATASTORE');
ctx_ddl.set_attribute('WAGN_NAME_SRCH', 'columns', 'last_name, first_name, middle_name, date_of_birth, gender');
END;
The Index Creation statement is:
CREATE INDEX wagn_srch_idx1 ON WAGN(signature) --Dummy Column
INDEXTYPE IS ctxsys.CONTEXT
PARAMETERS ('DATASTORE WAGN_NAME_SRCH SYNC(EVERY "SYSDATE+60/24/60" PARALLEL 10) TRANSACTIONAL');
And a typical update statement is (contained with PL/SQL):
UPDATE WAGN
SET status = x_wagn_assigned_status,
last_name = p_employee_details.last_name,
first_name = p_employee_details.first_name,
middle_name = p_employee_details.middle_name,
date_of_birth = p_employee_details.date_of_birth,
gender = p_employee_details.gender
WHERE WAGN = l_wagn;
So my guess is that because the dummy column (signature) is not updated it is not being reflected in the transactional memory area.

• Oracle Text Search of HTML Text region

I am using Oracle Text as a search tool in my application. It will search text that is in my Oracle tables, but I would also like it to be able to search APEX regions, such as 'HTML Text' regions. For example, I have a title in a HTML Text region. Is there a way to use Oracle Text to not only search the tables i have created, but search on APEX regions, such as a HTML Text region?
Thanks,
John

The APEX metadata is exposed in a number of views defined in the APEX schema (depending on version). See [Dmitri's blog post|http://dgielis.blogspot.com/2008/11/apex-views-are-so-useful.html] for more information. The APEX_APPLICATION_PAGE_REGIONS view contains columns that would be relevant, like region titles and HTML source.
This information can be combined with information from other sources in a [single text index|http://asktom.oracle.com/pls/asktom/f?p=100:11:0::::P11_QUESTION_ID:9455353124561]—look for up-to-date methods for your Oracle version on Ask Tom or the [Text forum|http://forums.oracle.com/forums/forum.jspa?forumID=71].
(Note that it's a good idea to include APEX and database version information when asking a question as it enables people to identify the most appropriate solution.)

• Oracle Text search returning no results

Hi,
I have created an oracle text (ctxsys.context) on a BLOB column which has various documents of .doc,.docx,.pdf, types.
CREATE INDEX IND_RESUME_DETAILS ON RESUME_DETAILS (RESUME)
INDEXTYPE IS CTXSYS.CONTEXT
PARAMETERS ('datastore ctxsys.default_datastore filter ctxsys.inso_filter sync (on commit)')
However, the query using 'Contains' does not return any search results.
select employee_number,Score(1) from resume_details where CONTAINS(RESUME,'JAVA',1)>0 order by score(1) desc
On checking the 'ctx_user_index_errors' view , it has an entry for every row in the table. However, it does not show any error in the err_text column
ERR_INDEX_NAME
ERR_TIMESTAMP
ERR_TEXTKEY
ERR_TEXT
IND_RESUME_DETAILS

AAAl0GAAGAAEFoWAAD
IND_RESUME_DETAILS
5/8/2014 18:27
AAAl0GAAGAAEFoWAAE
Even the index status shows 'VALID'.
I tried dropping and recreating indexes, dropping and recreating the table.. However, it's not working at all.
What's surprising is,it used to work earlier without any problems.
I also have another context index on another column on the same table which is a varchar2 column. The search on that column works absolutely fine.
The database version is
Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.3.0
Request someone in helping me root cause this issue. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

Hi Barbara,
Still the same issue.
Its putting an entry into 'ctx_user_index_errors' but with nothing in the err_text column..Hence, difficult to track what or where the problem lies.
And moreover, the same index was working earlier. Just stopped working all of a sudden.

• Oracle text search not working for WSDL files

I have a table (resources) with blob data type column (xml_data) and I've created context type index on that column. I've XSD and WSDL files stored in that blob column.
I can search XSD and XML files with a query with contains operator. But any search on the words from wsdl file returns zero results.I am not able to perform search on wsdl file.
Please advise me whether oracle text can work for WSDL files also ?
Query details
===========
create index myIndex on resources (xml_data) indextype is ctxsys.context;
select * from resources where contains(xml_data, 'searchword') > 0
Thanks a lot,
Santhi

Even though it isn't listed specifically, I can't see why it wouldn't work. The WSDL file should be a simple XML file, so in theory it shouldn't be any different to Oracle Text than the XML file that you loaded and searched successfully. Did you get any errors during indexing, and what do your tokens look like in the DR$MYINDEX$I.TOKEN_TEXT column?
Do you have a mini test case that didn't work for you? Perhaps we could play with it a bit.
Long term you might want to consider using section groups so that you can search "within" tags.

• Oracle text search - special characters issue

Hi.
I'm facing a real annoying problem with text search query, and everything I've tried failed...
I have a table with a varchar column indexed by text index. The column contains special characters like '&', ',' and mainly- '-'. Since I want to disregard these special characters for searches I have created a basic lexer of type skipjoins for the column index. So now, the phrase 'aaa-bbb something'. for example, can be searched without '-', like this: 'aaabbb'. But I want to make it possible for this phrase to be searched with and without '-'. So, that when the user enters 'aaabbb' he will get the same results as when he enters 'aaa-bbb'.
In other words, This condition:
WHERE CONTAINS(column, '<query> <textquery grammar="context"> <progression><seq>'
||'aaabbb'
||'</seq></progression> </textquery> </query> ' ,1)> 2
Will return the same results as this condition:
WHERE CONTAINS(r.POI_NAME, '<query> <textquery grammar="context"> <progression><seq>'
||'aaa-bbb'
||'</seq></progression> </textquery> </query> ' ,1)> 2
Since text query treats the '-' sign as a minus sign and searches for 'aaa' which doesn't contain 'bbb', the only way I found to fix this was to wrap the search text with {}. like this:
WHERE CONTAINS(r.POI_NAME, '<query> <textquery grammar="context"> <progression><seq>'
||'{aaa-bbb}'
||'</seq></progression> </textquery> </query> ' ,1)> 2
This all went very well, until I wanted to create a relaxation query. like this:
WHERE CONTAINS(r.POI_NAME, '<query> <textquery grammar="context"> <progression><seq>'
||'{aaab}'
||'</seq><seq>'
||'{aaab}'
||'%</seq></progression> </textquery> </query> ' ,1)> 2
In this case, I would expect the first part of the query to return no results (since it's not the whole word) but the second part, using '%' should have returned the record of 'aaa-bbb'. It doesn't. It will only return my result if I remove the '{}' for the second part. I can't do that, because the exact same search, when containing '-', will not return the expected results when I remove the braces (the sign is treated as minus sign):
WHERE CONTAINS(r.POI_NAME, '<query> <textquery grammar="context"> <progression><seq>'
||'{aaab}'
||'</seq><seq>'
||'aaa-b'
||'%</seq></progression> </textquery> </query> ' ,1)> 2
So I now have no solution. My question is- How can I create a query that will disregard the minus sign and treat it as a regular sign, but would still handle percentage sign as a special sign. So that I could run a query like the last example and will get the results of searching the phrase 'aaa-b%'?
In short, and to simplify my question, I'm looking for a way to escape all characters (not only the minus sign) except for a specific character. Kind of like 'unescaping' a specific character (the '%' sign) within braces {}. Or, another way would be to remove the space that is added to the phrase inside the braces at the end of the word, preventing me from adding "%" at the end of the word, outside the braces.
Thanks you,
Nili

I'm looking for a way to escape all characters (not only the minus sign) except for a specific character. Kind of like 'unescaping' a specific character (the '%' sign) within braces {}What about if you apply a function like regexp_replace to escape all known "specific characters", and then unescape the particular specific character again back as e.g. in
SQL>  select 'a.da-df%df*' str, replace (
regexp_replace (
'a.da-df%df*',
'([[:punct:]])',
'\\\1'
str2
from dual
STR         STR2
a.da-df%df* a\.da\-df%df\*
1 row selected.i.e. don't escape with curly brackets but with the backslash character.
You can then use this string in your query like in
WHERE CONTAINS(r.POI_NAME, '<query> <textquery grammar="context"> <progression><seq>'
||'aaab'
||'</seq><seq>'
||'aaa\-b'
||'%</seq></progression> </textquery> </query> ' ,1)> 2

• Oracle Text Search for UCM on Standard One

I'm curious if OracleTextSearch Component for UCM would work with 11g Standard One (or if there are any limitations running UCM with Standard One). Any experiences out there - as this would be for primarily smaller instances?

As far as I can tell, that component exposes some of the functionality of Oracle Text 11g.
Looking at this feature comparison set here:
http://www.oracle.com/database/product_editions.html
It looks like the Standard Edition includes Oracle Text.
Having said that, i've used Oracle Database 11g Standard as a development platform for a while. I would think that would be just fine, considering the small amount of information supplied about your particular implemetnation, metrics baselines, etc.

• Equivalence Operator - Oracle Text Search

Hi,
I am trying to use Equivalence Operator(=) as following,
SELECT SCORE (1), CLOB_COL
FROM TEST_CLOB
+WHERE CONTAINS (CLOB_COL, '({AIR}={WA@TER})', 1) > 0+
This seems to work fine for normal words, but when the word has any special characters(WA@TER) the equivalence operator throws the following error.
ORA-29902: error in executing ODCIIndexStart() routine
ORA-20000: Oracle Text error:
DRG-50921: EQUIV operand not a word or another EQUIV expression
DRG-50921: EQUIV operand not a word or another EQUIV expression
Please let me know if there is a way to escape the special characters.
The same query seem to work if i use "OR" operator instead of "Equivalence" but need to know whether it is possible to do it with "Equivalence" operator.
Thanks.

Thanks.The second result in a simple google query for "oracle text escape special characters" returned this.

Please keep google (and the Oracle documentation itself) in mind in the future, it's faster for you and less pollution to the forums for simple document reference questions like this.
