Oracle TNS Connection
Hi Everybody,
I'm a newbie in oracle world, hope that all the expert out there able to shed some lights on me.
i have PHP and Oracle 9i perfectly installed and everything was smooth.
Then later on , i installed 6i (Developer Form), after i've restart my PC
An error message pop out saying undefined oci_connect(). unable to load dynamic..bla bla bla.
I was wondering , could it be a conflict between those 2 version of oracle?
How can i know which oracle that i connect to? oracle 9i or oracle 6i
Thanks in advance

Getting error in TNS connection from Oracle hosted on LINUX machine
Hello,
We moved our databases from Solaris to Linux servers. I am running one multithreaded process which creates a pool of db connection which are shared by threads. On moving to Linx db I am getting below error message
[SERVERERROR] ORA-12520: TNS:listener could not find available handler for requested type of server
My first port of call to resolve this error was to check TNS_ADMIN and tnsnames.ora but they are fine and then I checked DB in db some of threads got connected and did insert data error usually occured when thread release control of connection and another thread picks up.
Later I changed configuration to run only one single thread and then it works fine without any error. I also tried running same process with configured to create one thread from two different sessions and then one session got this error but other continued.
Here is sqlnet.log file generated

TNS connection in Oracle SQL Developer
We have been using TNS connections in SQL Developer. Today we moved a database to a new server but still used the same TNS alias in tnsname.ora file for the database. However, the tns connections in SQL Developer shows this alias still points to the old database host server, therefore unable to connect. There is only one tnsnames.ora file on my PC and I have TNS_ADMIN set up to point to it. But it seems to me SQL Developer does not read this altered alias, but used some kind of "cached" alias which points to the old host. If I add a new alias in tnsnames.ora file, it reads correctly. But it does not refresh an existing alias.
So how is this "Network Alias" dropdown list populated? Even after I delete tnsnames.ora file, the drop down list still not changed. How do I reinitialize this list?Hi,
You should try and search SQLDeveloper help for TNS, that would give you some clues.
The list for selecting a network alias is initially filled from the tnsnames.ora file on your system, if that file exists.
Connections are stored in IDEConnections.xml.

Can't connect to Database through JDeveloper with TNS connection
Hello there,
My work server we can connect to the server using TNS connection and it is working fine with Oracle SQL Developer that provide the type of connection. On the other hands, JDeveloper doesn't. I tried couple time to connect and I am unable to. Can someone tell me how to use a TNS type connection in JDeveloper?
Thank you.I put server name for host name
From http://asktom.oracle.com
tell me what you consider to be the "server name". do you want the sid?
do you want the database name?
do you want the global database name? what is your concept of a "server name", we don't really have one
Ask Tom "Server Name of the Oracle Database" -

On Oct 6th 2009 on {message:id=3810910} you said you are an Oracle certified (8i,9i,10g) professional
On Oct 11th 2009 you said on {thread:id=970285} I have two computer, I want to install oracle 10g database on one and client on second. anybody can tell how can i do this? Is 10g database and Client is a different software? and how can i connect client to database,I think something tnsnames.ora?
I am really hard pressed to understand an Oracle certified (8i,9i,10g) professional can ask the Oct 11th 2009 question.
If you are actually legitimately certified, and I have my doubts, please be aware Oracle retains the right to decertify people who do not demonstrate the required level of competence!!
If I've misread something here I must offer my apologies.
One method is to open firewall and establish NAT so your listener is forwarded via a port on your public IP address (which may not be static, so may change from time to time); and arrange for the tns connection stanza on this client to point to this IP and port opening up the firewall at your friends as necassary. Using VPN is another option. The methods for doing these are software and equipment dependent, but hopefully what I have described is a 6/10 description of the process.
Apart from me questioning the validity of your certification credentials .... can I also ask what this has to do with Oracle Certifications on the Oracle Certification forum ? (Database general or installation might be better, though I'm not sure either forum is totally relevant).
And can you see your certifications on Certview [http://certview.oracle.com/] ? -

Is this the best you have to offer? I see you keep on posting "+answers+" using this URL. Well, if this is all you have to offer it is pretty pathetic. Please do not bother as there are many here that will actually make an effort to assist the person with the problem. We do not want you to sprain a finger or break a nail looking up the errorkey URL for yet another error code.

I installed recently Oracle 10g. When I try to log in, with the account and password setup[ earlier, I get the message "ORA-12170: TNS: Connect timeout occured". Do I need to specify a Host String" at Log On? Should I un-install and re-install the software again? Thank you.
/* Error: ORA-12170 (ORA-12170)
Text: TNS:Connect timeout occurred
Cause: The server shut down because connection establishment with a
client failed to complete within the allotted time interval. This
may be a result of network/system delays; or this may indicate
that a malicious client is trying to cause a Denial of Service
attack on the server.
Action: If the error occurred because of a slow network/system,
reconfigure the SQLNET.INBOUND_CONNECT_TIMEOUT parameter in
sqlnet.ora to a larger value. If a malicious client is suspected,
use the address in sqlnet.log to identify the source and restrict
access. Note that logged addresses may not be reliable as they can
be forged (e.g. in TCP/IP).
Could also be a firewall issue.

This error is due to a tns entry that is unusual/malformed.
Note that

Does any expert has any idea?I got the same error. Then I gave whole string to ./wfinstall and then the Installation pass ok!

ORA-12564: TNS:connection refused
C# code:
private Oracle.DataAccess.Client.OracleConnection objConn;
objConn.ConnectionString = "User Id=tst;Data Source=CZETEST;Password=1234;"
objConn.Open();
tnsnames.ora
CZETEST =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS_LIST =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = XXX.NET)(PORT = 1621))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVICE_NAME = XXX.CZ)
I'm trying to connect to an Oracle 10g server.
objConn.Open(); always ends with "ORA-12564: TNS:connection refused"
I've even tried to let the connection build by ODT connection wizzard ('Test connection' button displays 'Connection was successfull', but when the code is run the result is unfortunately the same :(
Anybody knows where the problem should be?This is often a malformed tnsnames.ora. Is what you posted a snippet, because it looks to me that you a closing ) too many. You can turn on tracing which should help you find the problem. It's odd that odt says the connection works, though.

Where do I specify the tns listener password in CF MX. I have
added a password to the oracle TNS listener service. I need to get
MX to pass this password to the oracle server. Is there a place to
do this.
cfkHere is what I was given from our security group here at
USDOJ:
We are using 9i,
Server Product ColdFusion MX
Version 7,0,2,142559
Edition Enterprise
Serial Number
Operating System Windows 2003
OS Version 5.2
Description:
A Oracle TNS Listener has been detected on the host with
login security disabled (SECURITY=OFF).
Observation:
Oracle is an enterprise level database which is available on
many different platforms.
A configuration vulnerability exists within the Oracle TNS
Listener which allows remote unauthenticated access. The TNS
Listener accepts a clients request and establishes a TNS
(Transparent Network Substrate) data connection between the client
and the service. A TNS connection allows clients and servers to
communicate over a network via a common API, regardless of the
network protocol used on either end (TCP/IP, IPX, etc). A default
installation of the TNS listens on TCP port 1521.
Vulnerable Systems:
Oracle 8i
Oracle 9i
Recommendation:
It is recommended to only allow certain IP's or subnet ranges
to access the TNS listener. This can be done by adding a rule in
the firewall. We also recommend that you enable a password for the
TNS listener within Oracle
