Oracle TO MSSQLServer vi ODBC Hangs
Hi everyone:
I'm trying to connect from an Oracle 11.2.0.3 on Solaris 10 (64 bit SPARC) to a MS SQL server 2000 using openlink odbc drivers 6.1 for SQL Server.
We can do a tnsping to the remore database and it works, but when we try to query any table from SQL Server connections hangs always in the same step.

Hi Tony,
It would be better to ask this question in the Heterogeneous Connectivity Forum -

I am connecting from Oracle to another database server (MS SQL Server, DB2 the error message is the same) through an ODBC connection using Oracle SQL Developer. (This is how I set up)
I want to query the schema of a non-Oracle database using the data dictionary mapping of the Oracle Database Gateway for ODBC.
This works well:
select * from all_tables@katimssql;
But this doesn't:
create table alltables_mssql as
select * from all_tables@katimssql;
Output:
Error report:
SQL Error: ORA-00604: error occurred at recursive SQL level 1
ORA-02047: cannot join the distributed transaction in progress
ORA-06512: at "SYS.HS$_DDTF_SQLTABLES", line 58
ORA-06512: at line 1
Does anyone know the solution of this?
Thanks in advance,
Kata
Details:
Oracle Database 11g Express Edition Release 11.2.0.2.0
Microsoft SQL Server 2008 (SP2) - 10.0.4000.0 (X64)
ODBC Driver: SQL Server Native Client 11.0 (32 bit)
initkatimssql.ora:
HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO=katimssql
HS_FDS_TRACE_LEVEL = ON
HS_TRANSACTION_MODEL = READ_ONLY_AUTOCOMMIT
I tried these, none of them worked, the error message is the same.
HS_FDS_TRACE_LEVEL = off
HS_TRANSACTION_MODEL = SINGLE_SITE
HS_TRANSACTION_MODEL = READ_ONLY_AUTOCOMMIT
HS_TRANSACTION_MODEL = READ_ONLYHi Kata,
this won't work as the ALL_TABLES is not a table that exists in your SQl Server - instead it is a "mimicked" table. This means the gateway will check if you have on your SQL Server a table called all_tables and when there's no table it will start an internal mechanism to check out what sort of tables exist in your SQL Server database. So the gateway is starting internally another transaction to get details from the foreign database and DG4ODBC can't participate in distributed transactions at all. Instead of using all_tables you have to use a real SQL Server table like SQ Server sys.objects or sys.tables.

Oracle Database Gateway for ODBC with Oracle XE
Dear Colleague,
Is it possible to use the Oracle Database Gateway for ODBC in conjunction with the Oracle Express Edition (or does one have to use the Standard or Enterprise Editions)? If yes, are there any restrictions when using the Oracle Database Gateway for ODBC in the context of Oracle XE?
Best regards,
RandyHi,
As it says, as long as you have an RDBMS license then you do not need a separate license for DG4ODBC. If the confusion is where it says "Oracle Database Gateway for ODBC can be installed and used on a machine different" then that is just to clarify that you can run the gateway on a completely separate machine from where the licensed RDBMS is running, but you can also run DG4ODBC on the same machine where the RDBMS is installed.
If you install 11g DG4ODBC on the same machine where you have a 10g RDBMS then it must be installed into a separate ORACLE_HOME.
If this is still not clear then please get back and let us know exactly what you need clarifying.

HP-UX: Oracle AS 10g Reports server hangs
I have installed Oracle AS 10g Forms and reports services on HP-UX. Initially Forms and reports were working fine. Presently forms are also working fine.
However reports started giving problem REP-56055: Exceed max connections allowed then changed the value of maxconnects from 20 to 100.
Presently reports server gets hang. If I try to run test report from the URL:
http://venus.marineterminals.com:7780/reports/rwservlet?server=rep_venus_OracleAS_FormsReports+destype=cache+desformat=html+report=test.rdf
I am getting the following error message "No Response from Application Web Server " Can anybody please help me to rectify this issue.Hello,
Most of the times, the error REP-56055: Exceed max connections allowed is returned because some reports exections are hanging and keep the connection.
Have you tried to use the Reports engine attribute "engineResponseTimeOut" in order to kill automatically the reports execution that are hanging ?
http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14099_17/bi.1012/b14048/pbr_conf.htm
Of course, the real cause of the problem should be investigated ...

I have written a win32 client application with Visual C++ for accessing an oracle 8.0.5 server on a linux platform.I have used an ODBC connection (MFC classes CDatabase e CRecordset). In application I have used a recordset on a view for updating the view's base table. On a view I have defined an instead of update trigger. All works fine. Now I must migrating it on an oracle 8.1.7 oracle server (or on win2k or linux). End now start the problem. On 8i server, after executing the query on the view, the function SQLGetStmtOption with SQL_CONCURRENCY param return SQL_CONCUR_READ_ONLY, making the recordset read only and i don't modify the view. What's the differences between Oracle 8 and Oracle 8i ODBC driver? Why with Oracle 8i I don't modify a view?
nullExecuted query is
SELECT * FROM VIEW_NAME WHERE ID = value
where ID is a primary key of the only key preserving table of the view. -
Oracle 11g and iSeries ODBC 32/64bit version???
Hi folks,
I've some questions....
I need setup a new server with Oracle db 11g and from this db i need setup a DBLINK to an IBM iSeries (AS/400) server. I've some doubts about the 32/64 bit version to use.
My idea is:
Oracle Linux 64bit
Oracle Database 11g 64bit
Oracle Gateway 11g 64bit
IBM i Access ODBC driver 64bit ( maybe 7.1 version?!?!?!)
Do you think I'll be able to achieve my goal with this configuration?
Else where can you suggest me a valid and wonrking configuration?
Thank you very much!!!!
bye byeEmilio,
That combination of products should work, as long as the ODBC driver is 64-bit and satisfies the ODBC driver criteria listed in the documentation.
If you have access to My Oracle Support have a look at this note -
Note.561033.1 How to Setup DG4ODBC on 64bit Unix OS (Linux, Solaris, AIX, HP-UX)

Tnsping timed out using dg4odbc from Oracle to MYSQL through ODBC
Hi,
I encountered problem when trying to connect from Oracle to MYSQL using dg4odbc, hope you can shed some light
Oracle database is 11.1.0.7 on SUSE Linux 64-bit.
Since the application which runs on MYSQL DB only offers ODBC driver on Windows platform, so I installed the 32-bit ODBC driver (from ServiceNow) on a 32-bit windows server (driver download from http://wiki.service-now.com/index.php?title=ODBC_Driver) .
created system DSN: MYSQLDEV, The DSN connection works fine. I then installed Oracle 11.2.0.1 gateway for ODBC 32-bit on the same windows server, the following configurations were done:
On 32-bit Windows server:

if listener is not listening to the service, then the tnsping on the windows server should fail as well.
I don't know why only the tnsping from Linux failed, is it due to the 32-bit ODBC uncompatibility with 64-bit oracle server? or my configuration problem?
Of course, when I created the DB link from oracle, the connection failed with
create database link mysqldev connect to xxxx identified by "xxxxx" using 'jelly';
Database link created.

In other ways the application is working properly, but when a user tries to start a report which calls a procedure through ODBC the following happens:
(1) The workstation processor starts working under a permanent load of 100%.
(2) The ODBC trace stops here:
{? = call XXXX_YYYY.ZZZ_AAAAAAAA
['BB_BBBB','200511','200511','CCC',null,null,'null','null'}
(3) The database listener trace (admin, on the server) stops here (287 rows follow which are the result of trying to start a report):

The procedure call through ODBC is working when we use Oracle9i Client.
So. All comments are much appreciated!
Terhoin addition:
my main problem is that Oracle ODBC driver does not understand something like
{call types.test_procedure (?, ?,,?)}
to pass not all parameters (I whant to use default value for some of parameters) -
Oracle 8.1.7 Installation hangs on NT4, P3 machine
Hi,
I am trying to install Oracle EE 8.1.7 on my NT-4, Pentium 3 box and the universal always hangs at 19%.
When OUI hangs, the status message on the installer window says that its installing 'Oracle Provider for OLE DB 8.1.7.0.0'
and that its copying RefCur.vbp.
The installation log in C:\Program Files\Oracle\Inventory\logs\installActions.log has the following final entry:
DllGroup = false
Calling action w32OcxRegActions1.7.1.5.0 RegisterOCX
OcxPath = G:\oracle\ora81\bin\OraOLEDB.DLL
WorkingDir = G:\oracle\ora81\bin
The oraInstall.out file in the same directory has the following single entry:
toLoad is D:\TEMP\OraInstall\ocxReg.dll
The oraInstall.err file is empty.
I tried replacing the symcjit.dll with the one from JavaSoft but that hasn't fixed the problem. Something tells me this may not be a problem with a bad java dll.
I would appreciate any suggestions on how I should fix this problem.
thanks,
- SachinHi Sachin!
I had the same problem.
I tried to follow the instructions in
"Oracle8i Installation Guide for Windows NT"
pp. 8-6, 8-7 :
Manually Removing All Oracle Components and Services fron Your Computer.
I have not succeded until I added some extra step.
In point 5, I removed the following keys as well:
MTS
MTS.1
MTS.Oracle
After this, and following all the other instructions, the install
suceeded.
Good luck,

Windows Vista Oracle 10g Express Edition ODBC problem
Hi,
I am running my Oracle 10g Xpress Edition locally on Windows Vista Enterprise Edition. I am trying to create an ODBC connetion to the local XE using Window ODBC utility. I selected the Oracle in XE driver to create the connection, when I test it I get
Unable to connect
SQLState=S1000
[Oracle][ODBC][Ora]ORA-28547: connection to server failed, probable Oracle net admin error...
I am new to Oracle kindly excuse my ignorance :-)I think you should probably download the file again, it might be corrupt.

Adding Oracle driver crashes MS ODBC adminstrator
Howdy,
I'm trying to set up the new Oracle 10g ODBC driver and it seems to be crashing the MS ODBC Data Source Administrator. After downloading and exploding the files on my drive, I used the Oracle Universal Installer to set it up. As the next step, I tried to add it using the ODBC Administrator, but every time I try, the Administrator program crashes. I'm trying to install on the same server that's running Oracle in order to establish a connection to an application running on the same server. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Alternatively, has anyone tried using the MS ODBC for Oracle driver (version 2.575.1022.00, dated 03/25/03). I had been advised against using this one with Oracle 10g.
My environment is as follows:
OS: MS Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition
DB: Oracle 10g, version 10.1.0.2.0
ODBC Driver: Oracle in ODBC, version 10.01.00.31
MS ODBC Administrator: version 3.525.1022.0
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
SteveI had this problem with the Oracle 10g driver as well. The problem was that when I tried to upgrade the odbc driver, I had to specify another Oracle home or the installer would crash. When I specified the other home directory, the install would work but caused this error. The solution was to uninstall the original odbc driver before installing the new one. I'm not sure why this changed all of a sudden, but the universal installer used to do this for you.

Problems with Oracle, Apache, mod_ssl and firewalls - hang
Hi,
We have an Apache server as supplied by Oracle (1.3.19), serving both
static html and mod_plsql pages.
When the system is accessed via SSL and the Internet, it will tend to hang
after a relatively short time - especially if two people access at the same
time. This is seen at the browser as a page that simply fails to arrive,
there is no standard 'Page could not be found' type message.
A network sniffer seems to show that there is some continuing network
traffic, but the Apache error_log does not show activity.
If the system is accessed without SSL but still via the Internet then there
appears to be no problems and the system runs a lot faster than SSL +
Internet.
If the system is accessed with SSL but internally so avoiding the Internet
then there also appears to be no problems and the system runs faster than
SSL + Internet.
Our servers are running NT4 SP6.
Our firewall is Checkpoint NG running on Solaris (although we also
swapped in a Nokia firewall running Checkpoint 4.1 which had the same
results).
Any thoughts on what might be occurring, what we should be looking at
next?
AndyCan anyone say, what's thue problem:
openssl req -new -key key.pem -out req.pem
and i see it :((

Hi,
I just want to know where we define ODBC connection name in Oracle BI Answers so the query pick the data from database.
I have created OBDC successfully but dont know where to define in BI Answers...
RegardsHi,
may be I don't understand your question very well, but do you already have created an .RPD file?
So you can create a odbc connection, but before making use of answers, you will have to create an RPD file where you define the different objects you can use in answers.
If this rpd file already exists, you should be able to make use of ansers, also without the creation of an odbc connection. Just login to 'presentation services'
