Oracle transactions with asynchronous processes

I am using VB 6 to create 2 asynchronous processes that make
separate connections to an oracle db. One process is
implemented as class by the other and runs as a background task.
Each process has several insert/updates that implement
transactions; every insert/update is followed by a commit.
The background process includes a timer module that includes
some insert/update statements.
There are checks in place to ensure that the processes do not
attempt to close while the timer is executing.
However, when the application exits, it generates a "Connection
object cannot be explicitly closed while in a transaction"
error, usually in the startup foreground app, although sometimes
in the background process.
I can't for the life of me find how a transaction could be open
nor any method to test for an open transaction before trying to
close.
Anyone have any ideas?

Are you doing explicit start/commits in your SQL code, are you
using ODBC's auto-commit feature, or are you using both
simultaneously?

  • Asynchronous Processing of Workflow in Final Step Pro's and Cons?

    Hi,
    I was wondering if anybody has experience with "Asynchronous Processing of Workflow in Final Step".
    in our workflow process we have decided to use Decision type 4:  item based desicion for partial document.
    currently we are working on SRM Server 731 and I cannot find this in customization. I suspect I need to enable business function : SRM_APF_IMPR_1.
    can any body confirm this?
    But does anybody have some experience using this functionality, and provide some experience in the Pro's and Con's.
    on the link i found on SAP website limited information is available: :
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_srm701/helpdata/en/c9/e6c2d976564cfe83ba850890d6f946/frameset.htm
    Hope anybody can provide some insight.
    thanks Sing

    Hi Sing,
    SAP says, that asynchronous processing should be faster for the large shopping carts (Last approver should not wait to long). But actually I have not determined big difference.
    If you activate this switch - do not fordet to activate following entry in SWE2.

  • Oracle ODBC Failed to enlist global transaction with DTC

    Hi Everyone,
    I have installed a COM+ application on a Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 machine. Which is using Oracle Client version 11.1.7.0 (32 bit).
    Application is using 11.1.7.0 (x64) Database running on another server with same OS. When I run some functionality in the application, I am getting a message saying
    "The Error [Oracle][ODBC]Failed to enlist global transaction with DTC".
    This error happened in a production environment. It is working on my test machine under same situation. The application is certified on above Oracle version.
    Please let me know what can be cause of the problem.
    Thanks & Regards,

    I have the same problem with Oracle OLEDB provider also. Use
    Microsoft drivers they work and faster...

  • Timeout Error in Call Transaction on Asynchronous Abap Proxy

    Hi Gurus!!
    We have a problem with a Call Transaction on Asynchronous Abap Proxy. When the process of Call Transaction (transaction CO02) takes more than 10 minutes, the process is cancelled with sy-subrc 1001 and the Abap Proxy continues with the execution. Strangely, there is a short dump in ST22 on transaction CO02, although on the ABAP Proxy we don't get any dump.
    When this process is called from a Background Job no dumps are get.
    Somebody knows if there is a problem with the Asynchronous ABAP Proxy executing CALL TRANSACTION statementent?
    Thanks and regards,

  • Fault Handling in Asynchronous process

    Hi,
    I want to know how to throw fault from an Asynchronous process to the calling process. In a synchronous process we generally throw faults using fault message in 'process' port type. But Im not sure how to throw a fault from Asynchrnous process to the calling process that can be caught in the catch block of the calling process.
    Can some one update me with the feasibility of this.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
    Look inside the Oracle® BPEL Process Manager Developer's Guide at http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B31017_01/integrate.1013/b28981/faults.htm#BABIBAFC
    8.8.2 Returning a Fault in an Asynchronous Interaction
    In an asynchronous interaction, the client does not wait for a reply. The reply activity is not used to return a fault. Instead, the BPEL process returns a fault using a callback operation on the same port type that normally receives the requested information, with an invoke activity.
    Example
        <portType name="BPELFaultHandling">
            <operation name="initiate">
                <input message="client:BPELFaultHandlingRequestMessage"/>
            </operation>
        </portType>
        <portType name="BPELFaultHandlingCallback">
            <operation name="onResult">
                <input message="client:BPELFaultHandlingResponseMessage"/>
            </operation>
            <operation name="onError">
                <input message="client:BPELFaultHandlingErrorMessage"/>
            </operation>
        </portType>On the caller side you have to use one invoke followed by a pick activity waiting for onResult or onError callback.

  • Problem with asynchronous replication

    Hi All ,
    In asynchronous replication, I am getting huge number of records in defcall view.
    its very difficult to take care of each row manually.
    Is there any way to create the INSERT/UPDATE/DELETE script from defcall
    or with the help of other views
    by which we can keep all the DB( in asynchronous replication) in sync.
    Thanks in advance.

    If the PUSH job has been executed and yet the calls have failed, they would have moved to DEFERROR.
    If they are in DEFERROR, you can execute DBMS_DEFER_SYS.EXECUTE_ERROR
    Here's a script that I had obtained a long time ago. It would have worked in Oracle8, and 8i. It is from Charles Dye's book "Oracle Distributed Systems"

  • Re : what is diffrent Between  Synchronies and   Asynchronies  process

    Hi ,
          what is diffrent between Synchronies and   Asynchronies  process in  session Method and call Transcation method  pls give one Example...
    Thanks
    Arief .S

    Synchronus data processing is that in which the program calling the update task waits for the update work process to finish the update before it continues processing.
    In Asynchronus update the callng program does not wait for update work process to finish the update and continues as normal.
    A BDC done with sessions is always synchronus.
    A BDC with call transaction is by default asynchronus
    unless you define it explicitly as
    call transaction 'XXXX' ...... update 'S'.
    ( If you donot define update option it is defaulted to "A" ).
    The update method is of importance when one transaction locks data which may be required by a subsequent transaction . The subsequent transaction will fail if data is locked from previous one. An example would be you are creating sales order for same material in succession ( with asynchronus update ). Quite likely that some of transactions would fail due to material locked.
    For large volume of data Call Transaction will be faster but you have no restart capability here. Suppose from 1000 transactions 100 fails . You will have to run the BDC program again exclusing the ones which wrere successful. However with session method you have the option to process the error transactions again in SM35 . So if you are sure that errors will not occur use call transaction else use session method.

  • Problem when trying to refresh oracle screens with latest data

    hello experts,
    i have one problem,i want to refresh the oracle screen with the latest data from the data
    base.
    It is a two stage process.At first step one user will select a row from the screen and then he will press a button .
    now the second screen will appear and the detail of the employee will be displayed.
    First step has been completed and the data is coming in the second form via parameters and i can see the full information of the employee.
    Now i want to refresh the oracle form i.e. suppose if my dba has made any changes in the oracle table( EMP table) i want that after pressing the refresh button user can see the
    latest data from the database.
    in WHEN_BUTTON_PRESSED trigger i have written this codes.
    enter_query;
    execute_query;
    but they are not giving the expected result.
    And one more thing please suggest whether in the second form i should use database item
    or non database item.
    When i am using database item when i am trying to close second from one pop up is appearing
    and asking that whether i want to save the changes.
    please suggest how can i remove this message from my application.
    Regards
    Anutosh

    Hi,
    what data did you transfer via parameters to the second form ?
    how did you populate the datablock in the second form ?
    Typical solution would be:
    (For my example the block is both forms is named EMP, and is based on the table SCOTT.EMP)
    In Form 1, transfer the primary key-value of the current record to a global or parameter (will use global in my example):
    e.g. you have a WHEN-BUTTON-PRESSED-Trigger with the following code:
    <pre>
    :GLOBAL.EMPNO:=:EMP.EMPNO;
    CALL_FORM('FORM2');
    </pre>
    In Form 2, you have a WHEN-NEW-FORM-INSTANCE-Trigger with code:
    <pre>
    DEFAULT_VALUE('GLOBAL.EMPNO', NULL);
    IF :GLOBAL.EMPNO IS NOT NULL THEN
    GO_BLOCK('EMP');
    EXECUTE_QUERY;
    :GLOBAL.EMPNO:=NULL;
    END IF;
    </pre>
    On block EMP in Form 2 there is a PRE-QUERY-Trigger with following code:
    <pre>
    IF :GLOBAL.EMPNO IS NOT NULL THEN
    :EMP.EMPNO:=:GLOBAL.EMPNO;
    END IF;
    </pre>
    And at last, in your refresh-button would be the following code:
    <pre>
    :GLOBAL.EMPNO:=:EMP.EMPNO;
    GO_BLOCK('EMP');
    EXECUTE_QUERY;
    :GLOBAL.EMPNO:=NULL;
    </pre>
    Hope this helps

  • Post with clearing : process open items

    hi,
    i do post and clearing FB05.
    i select incoming payment for transaction to be processed in the selection screen.
    Q1
    in the first line items, i put PK 40 for bank account and the next screen i put the amount, say 100 and hit process open items button.
    i choose the customer account and hit process open items button.
    in the standard tab, it shows list of document and also the amount entered (amount to be cleared) 100.
    now my question comes :
    as i debit bank 100 (pk 40), it should credit cust 100- (pk 15), right?
    amount entered field is showing 100 then assigned field should be 100- to make it 0 in not assigned field, right?
    but in this case, i need to select positive 100 and not negative 100 in the cust account document list.
    this is what i confused. as in f-03 or f-32, i remember if amount entered field is positive then i need to choose negative amount so that in not assigned field is 0.
    Q2
    why in first line item, if i put PK 15, i not able to process open items anymore. for example if i enter 100 and click process open items, when i put in PK 50 the same amount on the next item line, i not able to simulate correctly as with unassigned figure.
    can explain?
    thanks

    Hi
    When you select "process open items", the system lists the Open items of customer. You are supposed to select an open item to be cleared with the amount received from the customer. When you sell a product, Customer is debited and hence it is positive only.....
    I hope it is clear

  • ME57 transaction with ALV scope of list

    hi all!
    i want to run ME57 transaction with ALV scope of list, but i'm facing a problem because if the list of requirements are bigger than 50 recors, the system says that  'Max. 50 requirements can be processed simultaneously' and I can not assign source of supply to all my list. I guess this will be customizable, because if I run it with A scope of list, there's no limit of processing.
    how can I change that value in order to be able to process all the requirements of my list in ALV view?
    thanks in advance.

    Hello Fabian ,

  • Fault in initializing asynchronous process

    Hi Guys,
    As many posts and articles suggest, asynchronous process is better because of its flexibility. I am very happy with it until I encounter the following problem.
    We do the fault handling on all of our processes, using both the catch and fault policy framework. For asynchronous process, we use a separate invoke to return the fault. Recently, we noticed a problem. For some reasons, every Sunday when the production BPEL server restarts, there are always a few BPEL process turned retired and off. We've already raised a service request for this on metalink. But this causes another very serious issue:
    The calling BPEL instance sends a request to initiate the asynchronous process . As it is turned off and retired by accident, the initialization fails. However, as it's asynchronous, the calling process is not notified, which means there is no fault raised on the calling process. This causes a lot of trouble because we are not notified with the problem. This has never been a problem because we did not have process turned off and retired before.
    This can be easily verified by a simple test case. Create a synchronous process A and an asynchronous process B. Let A invoke B. Then turn off and retire B. A instance can still be executed successfully without saying the problem calling B. If B is a synchronous process, A will always report a fault in such situation.
    Of course, the domain log file records this ORABPEL-02106 problem. but we don't want to check log file all the time and want to be notified when it happens. Is there a way to catch such exception/fault in the calling process?
    Thanks in advance!!!

    HI Sridhar,
    Thanks for you advice. I think I will do the following:
    1. I will still keep all process as asynchronous with the deliveryPersistPolicy as default.
    2. I will add a cron job to scan the server whenever it restarts to detect any default version of BPEL process with a retire or off status. If there are, I'll correct them.
    3. I will implement the program to re-submit the failed invoke. But I cannot make it an alert program because I cannot get detail fault through IInvokeHandle (Please correct me if I am wrong).
    By the way the defect of the "ClassCastException" is fixed in 10.1.3.5, I guess that can upgrade that too :-)
    Thanks,
    Steven

  • Integration of Oracle Apex with EBS R12.1.1

    Dear All,
    We are in process of integrating Oracle Apex 4.0.2 with EBS R12.1.1 with the help of http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/apex/apex-ebs-wp-cabot-consulting-169064.pdf.
    After doing all the steps, the moment when we navigate from EBS application to Apex application by clicking on the EBS menu link it ends up with below error
    "404 Not Found
    Resource /OA_HTML/null/pls/apex/f not found on this server"
    After some analysis i found the below code in "LaunchApex.jsp" for getting the profile value (supposed to be 'http://myserver:port') from custom system profile "APEX_HTTP_SERVER" and prefixing to "/apex/f?p=applicationid:page::APPS:::" is not happening properly
    String l_launcher = ctx.getProfileStore().getProfile("APEX_HTTP_SERVER");
    l_launcher = l_launcher + "/apex/f?p=" + p_application + ":" + p_page;
    l_launcher = l_launcher + "::APPS:::" + p_item_names + ":" + p_item_values;
    as we found that the custom system profile "APEX_HTTP_SERVER" not exist in EBS system. But it works without any page error if we hard code the entire apex application URL in l_launcher variable, but this takes us to EBS login page instead of Apex application page.
    So i feel we can't bypass using profile value from "APEX_HTTP_SERVER" as it has some relation with EBS application session.
    So could anyone please help me how we could create custom system profile "APEX_HTTP_SERVER" or any other options to make the seamless integration of Oracle apex with EBS works without any second login page
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
    Create a profile under Application Developer Responsibility as follow:
    Name OAE_LAUNCHER
    Application <whatever>
    User Profile Name Oracle Application Express Launcher
    Description Oracle Application Express Launcher
    2. Set above profile value under System Administrator Responsibility -> Profile -> System, and search for the ‘OAE_LAUNCHER’.
    Set the value at Site Level as:
    http://<hostname>:<Apex port>/pls/apex
    Then instead of hardcoding the URL in the jsp, just give the profile name OAE_LAUNCHER that you have just created in the jsp.
    Hope this helps you
