Oracle Vm on VirtualBox

Hi,
Has anyone successfully run Oracle VM on VirtualBox?
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 965
SVM is enabled in MB.
Installed VirtualBox on Windows 7 64bit.
VirtualBox: 4.1.18
I basically followed the oracle instruction from the "Building a Demo Environment using Oracle VM VirtualBox".
Everything works fine until I try to create a virtual machine.
I've got the following error.
Starting operation 'Virtual Machine Start' on object '0004fb00000600009526838f3d4be255 (first vm)'

As you can see there are two errors.
1. OVMAPI_4010E Attempt to send command: dispatch to server: myserver1.example.com failed. OVMAPI_4004E Server Failed
2. HVM guest support is unavailable: is VT/AMD-V supported by your CPU and enabled in your BIOS?
I'm pretty sure that SVM (AMD-V) is enabled in BIOS and it's verified when installing VM Server as a guest in VirtualBox.
Does anyone have idea or comments?
Thanks,

Well without arguing about the capabilities of your AMD processor, I would definitely change the domain property of the Vritual Machine to XEN PVM while trying to run the entire stuff from VirtualBox :)
Does anyone have idea or comments?

  • Anyone have experience with using Oracle's free VirtualBox on a Mac?

I'm a new Mac user, and am wondering about experiences with Oracle's VirtualBox for simultaneously running Windows software?  I have some professional software I use for work that is PC-based, and if I can use the free Oracle download it would be cheaper than paying for comparable Mac software.

Oscar Carrizales.ORA-12514 ALWAYS only occurs due to a problem on DB Server system.
One cause of this problem is when the Oracle database is down & needs to be started.
A remote client send a request to the Listener asking to be connected to a specific service.
If/when the listener does not know anything about that service, the listener responds with ORA-12514
post results from the following two OS commands:
    lsnrctl status
    lsnrctl service
Since every connection request to the listener gets logged, listener.log file will contain a line with 12514 as status code.
This line contains valuable debugging details. So post this line & surrounding lines.
for additional debugging suggestions read the URL below:

  • Oracle within VirtualBox

    Hello everyone,
I'm trying to install Oracle 10g on VirtualBox. I need a 10g database on which I can make some tests.
Basically, I have 2 different VirtualBox. One with the database and one with SQLDeveloper.
The database is correctly installed. I know it because I can successfully connect to the database when I'm on the same virtual machine than the databse:
    [oracle@poney ~]$ pwd

My listener.ora file is like this:

    Thanks

'LOCALHOST' means what the name indicates. Do you have a tnsnames.ora on the sqldeveloper box? If yes does it also point to localhost as hostname?
When the listener runs on box A and sqldeveloper on box B, for sqldeveloper localhost is its box - and NOT the listener/database box.

  • Oracle VirtualBox Downloads

    Hi,
I am trying to download Oracle Pre-Configured VirtualBox available at :
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/enterprise-edition/databaseappdev-vm-161299.html]
The link for the first file is not working.
    Could anyone help on this?
    Thanks

    Dear,
    Thank you for replying.
When I try to download the .ovf file, it prompts for username and password, then it shows the following page, which shows scripting.
    http://download.oracle.com/auth/otn/other/virtualbox/dd/OTN%20Developer%20Days.ovf?e=1300565414&h=1439759b901c92bda9866c2e70d8834c
Kindly let me know if there is any alternate for this. Without the .ovf file I cannot proceed using Pre-Built VMs.
    Thanks

  • Oracle listeners

Hi i'm new to this forum. Recently i installed oracle 11.2.1 on OL 6. I did install it successfully, but i need it to listen to different ip. I opened up the network manager netmgr.. and changed my listener to listen to the local ip of the computer (not the loopback, the one that my rooter assigns to the pc when i hook up). Then i could see running this command "netstat -tlpn" that oracle actually listens to the ip i wanted, that is 192.168.100.56:1521.. Then i tried to open sqldeveloper and hook up to this oracle instance. I installed OL 6 and oracle 11g in virtualbox and my virtual machine is bridged not in NAT mode. I tried to open sqldev from my host pc where i run ubuntu 12.10.. But i can't get it working, sqldev fails to open the connection and throws me IO error. Anyway i want to make oracle accessible from other pc's on the localnetwork as well the enterprise manager.. i need this because my OL 6 is pure console mode, i didn't install desktop environment and i need to run the EM from outside the box. After i changed my listener config to go for the 192.168.100.56 i did EM reconfiguration dropping the repos and recreating again, it went successfully. My box has name obox, and after config. the manager it points me to this url: https://obox:1158/em In my hosts file inside the box i have mapping: 192.168.100.56 obox, this means that the listener should listen to 192.168.100.56:1158, when i try to open this url from my host machine (the ubuntu where the obox virutal machine runs) i get; The web page is not available. I tried this too.. I hooked from my host pc to the box with ssh and -X to forward gui. Then i installed google-chrome inside the obox, and runned it from outside with ssh and forwarding. I tried to run https://192.168.100.56:1158/em and i could open the page and do normal stuff. But if i tried from the browser in my host machine i can't get it working. It is the same with the db listener on 1521, i can't manage to hook on it with any preconfigured account (sys, system..)
Please point me what should i do, i need to open oracle for outside communication (actually not that much of outside but in my local address space)
    Thanks

Hi guys, sry for my late response but i didnt have time to try out what you wrote to me.. Now i did some tryouts and here i am..
I started with fresh install, both my virtual machine OS and oracle 11g.. Here is what i did..
Firstly i installed Oracle Linux 6, just the bare metal staff (no gui or other desktop apps).. After i finished the installation i assigned static ip (192.168.100.100, the mask is 255.255.255.0, my local address space is 192.168.100.x) to my iface because i'm working on laptop and i use wifi, so i like my address static so i can be sure that i always connect to the same ip. My virtual machine is in bridge mode (not NAT).
Then i did this little setup:
On my host OS (ubuntu 12.10) i added this line in /etc/hosts: 192.168.100.100 obox (i refer my virtual machine OL 6 to as obox). And in my obox i added this line in /etc/hosts: 192.168.100.5 ubuntu, this is the ip of my host OS. Then i tried pinging them in various ways like this:
In my host OS: ping 192.168.100.100, ping obox, ping 127.0.0.1, ping 192.168.100.5, all of the pinging commands return response and they work just fine, that means that my host OS can see my obox correctly.
In obox OL 6: ping 192.168.100.5, ping ubuntu, ping 127.0.0.1, ping 192.168.100.100, all pings work fine i get response in all cases. That means that my obox can see the host OS.
This pinging means that the host os and the obox can see each other, and they are in the same local address space..
After the pinging was done i installed all packages that oracle needs inside my obox, i setup all kernel params, added limits for oracle user in /etc/security/limits.conf, and created needed groups, users and dirs. Did correct permissions and owners for the dirs and installed x11-xauth and x11-apps which i needed for remote install because i didnt installed gui in my obox. I then connected with ssh -X to my obox from the host OS as oracle user and ran runInstaller script. I followed all the steps, didn't configure instance during install just installed oracle binaries. After successful install i ran the scripts the installer required at the end as root user, all went fine. My oracle 11g was installed correctly.
After installation i ran netca to create basic listener, i followed steps and created listener succesfully, then i ran netstat -lnt and could see this in one line:
. . . :1521, that means that the listener was up and doing its job. Then i tried to turn it off: lsnrctl stop LISTENER it went down successfully, running netstat -lnt again i couldnt see it listening anymore. I tried to start it again (just routine check) lsnrctl start LISTENER and it came up successfully (providing message for success) and again: netstat -lnt i could see . . . :1521, the listener was fine (anyway i doubted the ip it listens on because i want it to listen in the local address space, i assume this was just local listener for this obox, later on this).
Then i started dbca to create instance, i followed the steps (i got some warnings about not having enough space in $ORACLE_BASE/recovery area, but this was due the fact that my virtual machine instance was assigned dynamic HD allocation up to 40GB, it was gone after i restarted my obox and tried again to run dbca) i properly setup my db instance and i could ran it like so: ./dbstart $ORACLE_HOME, and i could stop it like so: ./dbshut $ORACLE_HOME. Then i shut it down and opened netmgr to assign the instance the listener previously created (my db sid was: orcl). In the netmgr i added database service in the LISTENER settings and gave the orcl SID. Then i started the db again and i could see that it brought the listener up with it.
After i ran netstat -lnt i could see . . . .:1521 as i said earlier.. i tried to connect to my db from my host OS with sqldeveloper with this settings:
    user: system
pass: enternow (i set this pass when creating the db instance with dbca to all default users that the config assistant creates)
    host: obox (tried 192.168.100.100 too)
    port: 1521
    SID: orcl
When i press test i cant get success, it says that could not connect..
Then i tried this.. i stopped my db instance : dbshut $ORACLE_HOME and i opened the netmgr again.. i opened the settings for LISTENER and in the host field i inputed this ip directly: 192.168.100.100, then i saved the config and closed the manager.. I started the db instance again: dbstart $ORACLE_HOME.. now running netstat -lnt i could see this: 192.168.100.100:1521. Then i tried to connect again from sqldeveloper on my host os with the same stuff except the host field now was 192.168.100.100 and i again i couldn't connect..
This is all i did, and i cant manage to access my oracle instance from outside the virtual machine OL 6 instance..
Thanks, please review this post more carefully and see if im doing wrong in any step..

  • Oracle 8i Client with XP 64

    Folks,
I have scanned the forums for some post on this, but I havent found anything directly related. We are supporting maintenance of 8i databases and it isnt an option to upgrade at this point.
I have installed an Oracle 8i client on an XP 64bit platform. I have configured the ODBC server connection settings using the 32 bit ODBC admin tools. And I have a valid TNSNAMES.ORA file in use that works on other machines to connect to the server. The path to the oracle \bin exists in my environment variables settings. When I attempt to connect to our server using the conventional in-house tools, I get the error "ORA 6413 "Connection not open.". However, when I use the "Oracle ODBC test" GUI, I can see the tables to to the DB on our server and seem to connect.
I know this product is probably not supported. But this is not an option for us. I must support this applications use. Any ideas would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    MB

Downgrade your xp os to 32 bit.
You could install Oracle's Free VirtualBox on your 64 bit system and install xp OS as a VM inside that. Then install the 8i client in the 32 bit OS.

The actual problem seems to be that you are using the wrong Linux distribution for you Laptop. Enterprise Linux was not designed for consumer grade hardware. To further troubleshoot the problem you will need to check for relevant output of "dmesg", i.e. check if the firmware and driver that was loaded for the device. You should also check "lspci -v" w/o grep to see more detailed information for the device.
Are you trying the latest Oracle Linux 6 update 2?
    What is your hardware?
Beware that no Oracle database products are yet certified for EL6 yet, so you should better stick to Oracle Linux 5 update 7 instead.
If the purpose of your installation is research and development I suggest to install Windows as your primary OS and run Oracle Linux inside Virtualbox. Check the following link: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/community/developer-vm/index.html

  • Installing Oracle Linux 5.8 on Virtual Box

I'm trying to install Oracle Linux 5.8 on Virtual Box. I have downloaded V31120-01 and burned to the DVD, I think successfully.
However, when I start the Virtual machine, I get the Opening screen, "Oracle Linux" the little picture of the penguin guy, etc, so I think my DVD is good.
The screen says, "To install or upgrade in graphical mode, press the <enter> key." So I do.
Several lines of text flow across the screen, but then the process seems to stop with no prompt on what to do next or any indication that an error has occurred, it just stops.
The last lines I can see are:

I'm not sure if it's waiting for some input from me, or if there is a problem, but nothing happens beyond this point until I power down the virtual machine.

There is no need to burn a DVD because Virtualbox can directly mount and boot from the .iso image you downloaded. It is usually a good idea to check the md5 checksum of your download with the number provided by the download page to verify your download is not corrupted. There are no problems installing any version of Oracle Linux under Virtualbox provided you have the right hardware. I suggest to check the Virtualbox documentation.

  • 32bit Oracle 10g on Red Hat 64bit?

    Hi guys,
Is it possible to install 32bit Oracle 10g on Red Hat 64bit? Im trying to do so on our Red Hat database server and i receive :
Error in invoking target 'client_sharedlib' of makefile '/db/oracle/10.201/network/lib/ins_net_client.mk. See '/db/oraInventory/logs/installActions2011-02-11_01-01-54-07AM.log' for details.

This can be troublesome and awkward, but there are small subset of cases where this may right in some circumstances. And this answer is a little bit of a cheat really.
In general the earlier answers are better unless you have particular reasons.

  • How should I try out Oracle Grid and Oracle database?

I want to try out Oracle Grid and Oracle database in a virtualized test environment. I have already downloaded the Oracle VM VirtualBox for Windows platform. The OS for the production environment is RHEL. So, do I just need to download Oracle Linux? How about the VM Manager, VM Server, and Oracle programs?

You can use the standard distribution media from http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/indexes/downloads/index.html and https://edelivery.oracle.com/linux to install Oracle Linux and Oracle 11g in Virtualbox. Virtualbox can use real disk media as well as .iso disk image files. Oracle Linux 6 is not certified for any Oracle database product yet. Your best option will be to install Oracle Linux 5.7 and then install the Oracle-Validated software package to prepare Oracle Linux for the Oracle database installation.
Virtualbox and Oracle VM are different products. Oracle VM, including OVM server and manager installs its own operating system and is designed for installations on bare metal machines. Virtualbox is an application that requires a primary host OS, e.g. Windows, MacOSX, Linux, to install one or more virtual machines with Windows or Linux guest systems.

  • Anyone know when will Oracle VDI support Oracle VM Server x86?

    Hi there.
Is there a roadmap or plan for Oracle VDI support Oracle VM server x86?
I think we need enterprise class(type-1) hypervisor.
    DH,

I dont think its in the roadmap because Oracle VM does not lend itself nicely to all the technology deeply embedded in Oracle VDI, namely, VRDP which is a proprietary remote desktop protocol Oracle VDI leverages to paint screens directly from a VirtualBox remote display session. The only thin Oracle VM (Xen) has close to this is the dated VNC protocol.
We went down this road early on, expecting Oracle VDI to integrate, but the more we learn about how Oracle VDI does things, the more it doesn't make sense to adapt Oracle VM Server to do this.
I don't know Oracles plans surrounding this (who does?) but it would seem it would take ALOT of work and redesign to make that happen, whereas they already acquired Oracle VDI (and VirtualBox) from their SUN acquisition.

  • SOA with Oracle 2 node RAC cluster

    Hi All,
Just a simple doubt, I have successfully installed and configured SOA suite 11.1.1.3 & BAM in one wls Domain 10.3.3 in a linux box and could access all the application like BAM console, BPEL console etc .... also could see all my data-sources deployed in the Data Sources with a single node database.
    1. Now I have to RE-configure this whole SOA suite with RAC (2 node database cluster) what changes or configuration needed to implement SOA suite with RAC database?
    2. Do I need to create a "Multi Data Source" to configure RAC with SOA suite..?
    Thanks
    Sam

This is regarding Oracle RAC..so if there is a specific category..please let me know..
I have installed OEL linux 5.6 as guest OS (using virtualbox) in two laptops.
I want to install 2 node oracle 10gR2 RAC with the OEL linux as OS and each laptop as one node.
Read docs and understood that there must be shared storage for oracle clusterware and oracle ASM for oracle RAC to work.
Please let me know the steps to create shared storage for oracle clusterware and oracle ASM (considering virtualbox OEL) and to configure public, private and virtual IPs.
I already have document to create 2node oracle RAC using virtualbox with two nodes on the same laptop.so please dont suggest that doc.
    Thanks,
DBMay be my step by step RAC installation guide can help you somehow?
