Oracle VM Server panic when I execute runInstaller

Hello,
I have an HP Blade BL680c G5 with 64Gb of RAM, with Oracle VM version 3.3.2-1074.
kernel on the Oracle VM server is 3.8.13-55.1.5.el6uek.x86_64
It is part of a server pool of other 3 same hw blades.
Storage is lun based, connected with an IBM DS4700 storage array.
I have an Oracle Linux 6.6 x86_64 vm (selinux disabled) with kernel 3.8.13-68.el6uek.x86_64
It is configured as a XEN_HVM_PV_DRIVERS vm with 2 cpu and 12Gb of ram.
I'm experimenting reproducible kernel panics.
Typically running runInstaller of Oracle 11.2.0.4 RDBMS (sometimes with yum commands).
You can find virtual console screenshots here of panic occurred just after runInstaller command was executed:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BwoPbcrMv8mvLXA2VEtTYVg1T1k/view?usp=sharing
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BwoPbcrMv8mvNzNEeUV0akt5Qm8/view?usp=sharing
Any hints of the possible reasons and how to debug?
I have small size internal disk compared with the amount of ram so that I cannot make a local disk kdump.
Can I configure network dump as in usual ways for Oracle Linux 6.x servers? Or serial console can help?
It seems that inside /var/log/messages and /var/log/xen directory nothing useful to check when the server restarts.
Thanks in advance,
Gianluca

Nothing special inside the Readme.
You select: Oracle VM 3 Templates (OVF) for Oracle Linux 6 Media Pack for x86_64 (64 bit)
And then:
Oracle Linux 6 Update 6 template (OVF) - Hardware Virtualized with PV drivers x86_64 (64 bit) V73660-01
Inside the README for the two types of templates there is only this note about PVHVM:
The hardware virtualized template contains a kernel that is not recompiled for
the virtual environment, but contains additional paravirtualized (PV) drivers
for improved performance.
and some other notes and known issues that don't relate with the problems I'm having.
Note that also a simple "yum update" can cause sometimes the panic of the guest... possibly only related with my specific hw...
The original question was aimed also to see if anyone else using PVHVM guests without problems or not in general with Oracle Linux 6.
Thanks,
Gianluca

    Hey Amit,
    I've encountered that problem in the past before with Oracle REL 5. If I remember correctly it's a bug and required a patch to be applied. Definitely search metalink 3. I'll do the same and see what I can turn up.

  • Oracle vm server restarts when converting imported ovf file to template

    Hi Guys,
    I had successfully imported ovf file which is a physical M$ windows server converted to P2V using VMWare converter, then exported to ovf file via VMWare workstation. I had imported the ovf file successfully, but when I tried to create template from the ovf file, somehow my server just restarted, and I could not find out the error from xend.log.
    Is there other way that I am able to know what happened?

  • CGI call to Oracle Reports with embedded graph not executing triggers on bars

    I have the following function which is suppose to change the color of the bars in subgroups.
    PROCEDURE Set_Group_Color(elem IN og_object, a_group_index number) IS

    v_temp og_object;

    v_color := color_list (a_group_index);
    og_set_bfcolor (elem, v_color);
    og_set_ffcolor (elem, v_color);
    v_idx := a_group_index * 2 + 1;

    -- 3 = border of color box of next group
    -- 4 = GRPG_NM2_GRPG_CNT_legend_label
    OG_SET_BFCOLOR (v_temp, v_color);
    END;
    This function is called from the format trigger of the bars themselves. The code works the way i want it to in the ORacle Graphics designer but when i executed from the web the triggers are not executed at all!!!
    Am i forgetting to do something? Is this a known bug. When i put a format trigger on the graph axis-labels they execute correctly in both the designer and the web. But the bar triggers do not!

    1. Along with this version of Reports you should find the reports server (r30mts on unix). This will allow you to deploy your reports on the web - on HP/UX or Solaris.
    2. To web deploy you have:
    Web Browser --->
    Web Listener + Reports CGI ----->
    Reports Server -->
    RDBMS
    3. You don't need the cartridge if you are using the CGI.
    For more information, please look at the Reports Server Configuration whitepaper, available on OTN - it was written for Reports 6.0, but the concepts and architecture are applicable for Reports 3.0

  • How to isolate web applications at URL level with Oracle HTTP Server?

    We have 2 machines each for oracle web cache, oracle http server and oracle application server (oc4j). We would like to host many web applications on this infrastructure. We have an issue with application/web site isolation for maintenance purposes.
    We have several oc4j containers for different web sites/applications but they all use one instance of Oracle Http Server. When we need to make changes to an application/web site or introduce a new web site (URL), we change the OHS configuration and restart OHS on each of the machines.
    As we have many URLs hosted on this OHS and plan to host a lot more (may be around 300), we need a way to slice and dice the URLs so that every change or any change should not need to go through a regression cycle or testing cycle for all the applications each weekend (our change window). When we used Apache earlier, we used to be able to create multiple httpd.conf (process level isolation) to cater to different applications.
    We could do this with Oracle Http Server too but Oracle will not support us. I appreciate any advice or suggestion with this issue.
    Thank you

    Hi Joey,
    A great idea! I recently presented at a local user group meeting about my WebSockets API (see the links in my signature). I've uploaded the presentation and the demo code I gave to our UG here.
    I think the barrier to entry is with needing to know the web languages (e.g. html/css/js) as well as writing your LabVIEW code. I have joined the group and look forward to seeing some interesting content on there! Certainly some demos of using AJAX to make requests to Web Services and do something with the data (e.g. display on a graph) would be a good place to start.

    Please help.
    Thanks

    Thanks for your response, it got me closer to my goal. I'm still facing one problem:
    Let me explain what I need to achieve
    Purpose
    Execute an Oracle stored procedure which in turn executes a stored procedure on remote SQLServer which updates local tables on that SQLServer.
    Observations
    The execution of both procedures completes successfully. However, an explicit COMMIT statement must be issued on the Oracle session which initiated the transaction before any data could be read from the SQLServer updated table.
    The following is test exercise for proof of concept.
    PL/SQL code
    declare
    out_arg integer;
    ret_val integer;
    begin
    out_arg := 0;
    ret_val := "dbo"."ZZZ_SP"@DBLINK_SQLSERVER(10, out_arg);
    dbms_output.put_line(to_char(out_arg));
    end;
    SQLServer code
    ALTER procedure [dbo].[ZZZ_SP] (@arg1 integer, @arg2 integer output)
    AS
    begin tran tran1
    insert into dbo.PA01LOG(msg) values('ddd')
    commit tran tran1
    set @arg2 = @arg1 * 100
    select -1
    GO
    I have put the Oracle gateway in Single_Site mode to avoid two phase commit. I want SQLServer to be able to run its own transaction management. I don't want Oracle to be responsible for completing the transactions which take place within SQLServer.
    I fear there might be a gap in my knowledge.
    Any ideas why I need to issue a COMMIT in Oracle session to release the lock from SQLServer table?
    Thanks

    To be able to do a mount.cifs, I installed samba-client manually using yum.
    yum repository based on Enterprise Linux 5 Update 1
    In the first step the mount failed with
    CIFS VFS: Server requests plain text password but client support disabled
    CIFS VFS: Send error in SessSetup = -13
    CIFS VFS: cifs_mount failed w/return code = -13
    After doing an
    echo 0x37 > /proc/fs/cifs/SecurityFlags
    the plain text password error message is gone.
    but
    CIFS VFS: Send error in SessSetup = -13
    CIFS VFS: cifs_mount failed w/return code = -13
    still exists.
    The mount command looks like that:
    mount.cifs //*servername*/*share* /mnt/*localdir* -o sec=none,user=*username*,pass=*password*
    The samba server which provides the share, only accept plain text password with no chance to get this adjusted.
    Is there anybody who knows how to fix this issue? Help would be really appreciated.

    auth/pampass.c:smb_pam_passcheck(810)
    smb_pam_passcheck: PAM: smb_pam_auth failed - Rejecting User install !
    Which is an indicator that the password is transfered incorrectly.
    As the password is for sure correct, it seems to me that the sec=none option is not working correctly when using OVM 2.1.
    When using Enterprise Linux 5 Update 1 all is working well.
    There you did not even need to use the "echo 0x37"
    It works out of the box using sec=none mount option.
    That is also a reason why I started this post under Virtualization and not under Linux ;-)
    I assume it is a OVM 2.1 specific issue.
