Oracle XE & Mandriva 2006

Hello..
I tried to install Oracle XE in mandriva 2006 free x64 edition following the steps mentioned in the documentation (installing libaio, rpm -uvh etc with default settings 8080, 1521 start oracle at boot)
The installation was successful so i tried to hit the link http://127.0.0.1:8080/apex
Nothing.
Also I visited system services and I discovered that the oracle service is stopped.
I found that the problem was about in the tnsnames.ora file..but nothing. Does anybody know the configuration after the "successful" installation of oracle XE in order to have the system up?
Thanks in advance

Yes, thanks, I am now registered as such.
I have the feeling that Mandriva2007 is a bit buggy, XE does not even fill in sysctl & port 8080 is still dead.
Also, most seem to use a debian/redhat on which XE does run.
I'm trying RHEL4 (Oracle's 'Enterprise Linux"), no succes yet either (yes, I did turn off SeLinux).
But yes: I NEED to use XE, under Linux, NOT winXP.
Any more Hints? Someone?
BTW: Has anyone bought/used/read the Oracle book:

Maybe it solves all the Linux problems? (the Oracle guys DO want us to run it, or not?)
I could order it, but if it's no use then I will have lost 40 bucks...

Mark will you be attending at Oracle Open World 2006 / will you be giving the lecture on XQuery, Oracle XML DB and Web Services (http://www.oracle.com/openworld/attendees/special-programs/develop.html#6) ?
    Grz
    Marco

Mark, guess what, among others, because you provided me some use-cases, I am able to attend.
So thinking this will be for me a great XMLDB event (and a little bit of other (mainly performance) stuff). Nope, njet, nada. The stupid schedule builder won't let me choose the XML items you marked via the default link about OOW2006 (or hands-on), even with a full conference pass. Aaarrchhh.
A real nightmare this is going to be, snik(=wheep). Couldn't select Lucas Jellema's (my collegae's 3) sessions as well (can i disguesse as his beverage waiter/assistant?). There is a small light shining in this nightmare, I can (and did ;-) select the session with Ms. Wang.
    For the rest...?
I will have to do with jonathan lewis, T. Kyte, et. all

    Mel,
Oracle Forms 10g is 9.0.4 internally. It is shipped with Oracle Application Server 10g and Oracle Developer Suite 10g (9.0.4). To develop and test Forms applications you need the Forms Developer Suite. For runtime during production you need Oracle Application Server.
Oracle Application Server 10.1.2.0.0 is a Java, BI and and Portal edition. Forms and Reports will be in 10.1.2.0.2, aka 10g R2, which is not out yet. Components in this stack are the "real" version 10.
You will be able to use Oracle9i database with Forms 10.1.2. To avoid conflicts, make sure the developer software gets installed in its own Oracle Home so, not to interfere with database files.

  • Error BACKINT for Oracle Connection

    hi @ maxdb gurus...
i have a problem backing up my maxdb 7.6.0.033 (serving for a mysap.erp2005 on aix 5.3) using the backint mechanism.
-> backup media created: two pipes and one parallel medium containing these pipes
    -> bsi.env has been created
    -> backint4sapdb.sar contains
4 staging areas each with 4096 MB
       files per backint call 2
-> maxdb is about 57 gb perm. data area (and 6 gb temp.)
i use the backup wizard (dbmgui) to invoke a complete data backup which starts (pipes are created in the file system) and runs until approx. 4 gb...then the backup terminates with error "-24920 backup operation was unsuccesful. The database request failed with error -8020"
what might be the problem? are the staging areas too small? is says that when using only one stage area it must hold the complete database...can i then conclude that 4 staging areas must hold the database as well - meaning they must be around 15 gb each?
    GreetZ, AH

yup...but that also means that the sum of the staging areas need as much space as the database ie. around 70 gigs netto! the staging files will be filled and thus grow until the defined size, meaning that the file system(s) need to be big enough!
everything works fine until the stage files are filled (up to the defined size) and then stops...when i change the sizes of the staging areas i can reproduce the error!
i compared the tsm implementation of that system with another system (live cache...kind of small regarding db size...) and found nothing serious...

  • Grouping in rtf template like oracle reports - a newbie question

    Hello all
I am new to BI Publisher and have probablly a silly question to ask.
I have a basic query that returns a flat xml file which looks something like this. it will have multiple rows.
    <ROWSET>
    <ROW num="1">
    <DATE>01-DEC-2007</DATE>
    <PACKAGE>XXX </PACKAGE>
    <DROP_OFF>Hotel1</DROP_OFF>
    <ROOM>1</ROOM>
    <NAME>Test Customer</NAME>
    <PROBLEM_RECORDED>N</PROBLEM_RECORDED>
    <EXCEPTION>1</EXCEPTION>
    </ROW>
    </ROWSET>
Because i am fairly new to xml i am at a loss trying to work out how i can form a template that will effectively allow grouping at say
    1. Date Level
    2. Package Level
    3.Drop Off level
    4. put all other data in here
In reports i would just do groups and alter the layout accordingly. Obviously if i had an oracle report version of the sql that generates the xml then i could just generate the xml from the report and i would get the xml i am looking for .
But I am working with basic sql not reports and am wondering What do I have to do with my xml to get it looking live the grouping I mention above, given all i have to play with is the example xml I included. I am really bamboozled and think i am missing something simple.
I dont want to have to write multiple queries with different groupings using cast , multiset as I thought one of the benefits of BI Publisher was one query multiple layouts.
    Thanks
    Lisa

If you haev word plugin installed,
please follow the documentation and try using that,
load the xml in the word plugin
and then select insert table/form and then you can do the drag and drop,
    and group by each fields.

  • Using a SQL for Oracle in Microsoft Excel Query

I am having the most difficult time (in fact, I can't get it to work) trying to use an SQL I created in Toad for Oracle. It works fine in Toad for Oracle...gives me all the data I need. I am trying to use it in Excel for users that don't know SQL or Oracle so they can use the query to extract data they need for Charts, Graphs, etc.
Here is the SQL code from Toad for Oracle:

    SELECT a_compl_summary.incident_number, a_compl_summary.case_number,

)Can someone help me...maybe point out what I'm doing wrong.
Note: I also tried creating this query in Microsoft Query (the simple way) and when I first create it...it works...But then if I go back in to edit the query, and refresh the query or try to Return data to Excel, it gives me a ORA-00936 error message.
Why it works when I first create the query in Excel, I don't know. But I have to validate the queries I'm creating (SQL or not) and I can't validate it if every time I go into edit the query (which may have to happen; that's why I have to fix this before I can submit my validation).
Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Okay, I know I'm replying to my own threads here...but I want to add a little bit more information again.
I was successful in figuring out that changing the :criteria to a ? worked.
I tested this on 1 criteria at a time. Adding one more scenario ? at at time.
It only worked up until about 3 scenarios of each criteria.
Then when I refreshed the query in Microsoft Excel Query, I got an "out of memory" error, and then it ended up just erasing the SQL I had been using.
Here's the SQL I had where it gave me this error. Am I possibly just making Excel work too hard? It just doesn't make sense because Toad for Oracle handled it in like 4 seconds. Which brings me back to an intial question I had. Can Excel use Toad for Oracle somehow?

  • Error Running Oracle Apps and Discoverer at the same time

    Hello,
We are having trouble running Oracle Apps and Discoverer at the same time on certain user's machines. Here are the specifics:
The user opens Oracle Apps in Internet Explorer. The user then opens Discoverer in another Internet Explorer windows and receives the following error: Runtime Error! Program: C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe abnormal program termination
As a work around, I installed Firefox on those user's machines. These users run Oracle Apps in Internet Explorer and run Discoverer in FireFox. This has solved the problem in 99% of the cases. However, there is one user who is having FireFox using Discoverer freeze when running Oracle Apps in Internet Explorer.
Can anyone provide any insight on how I can solve these conflict issues so users can run Oracle Apps and Discoverer at the same time?
Thanks in advance for your help,
    Carlos

    Hi Michael,
I agree with you completely. It is reccommended to run 10g on a separate physical server unless you have sufficient resources to run on the same server (which even most large clients do not) Even then, I would recommend a separate server.
I should have put my comment in context :-)
a.) I was only stating that it was possible
    and
b.) whether 10g is installed on the same physical server or separate should not affect the client browser crashing issue that was posted.
I do have an install with EBS11i and Discoverer 10g on the same physical server and it works fine (this is sandbox/ TEST). Most of my large customers have 10g installed on multiple physical servers due to load balancing (capacity).
I do work for Oracle. I try to help out on the forum when I can, but it is hit or miss :-(
I would be glad to discuss anything privately.
As for the issue at hand, I can reproduce the problem and here is what is occuring.
I have EBS 11i configured with Jiniator 1.3.24
I have Discoverer 10g configured with Sun Java plugin 1.4.2_06
    1. If you launch EBS 11i apps and a form with MS IE, then the browser launches the form using Jiniator JRE 1.3.xx (whatever you have configured in AutoConfig for EBS11i)
    2. Next, the user navigates to EBS 11i SSWA and launches a Discoverer workbook.
What occurs is a child IEXPLORE.exe process is spawned from the parent IEXPLORE.exe process and Discoveer Plus is launched. The parent iexplore.exe process will be attached to the Jiniator JVM. Now if Discoverer is configured with
    a.) Sun Java Plugin or
b.)a version of Jinitiator that is a different version from what EBS 11i is configured with
then you may get this conflict.
It really is an MS IE/JRE conflict with Jinitiator and Sun Java Plugi and the way the broswers attaches to the JVM (IMHO) as this behaviour could be reproduced with other non-oracle java applets.
You can workaround the situation by:
    a. configure EBS11i and Discoverer to use the same version of Jiniator 1.3.xx
    b. educate the users to open one MS IE browser to connect to EBS11i and then open a second MS IE browser to login to EBS11i SSWA or Discoverer 10g Plus directly to launch workbooks. They need to to this by clicking on the icon and not using File >> New browser. Clicking on the icon will spawn a new parent iexplore.exe process that can attach to a second/different JVM. File >> New Window will spawan a child of the parent.
    c. As you did use two browser versions. MS IE for EBS11 connection and FireFox for Disocverer 10g connection.
I would choose optoin b, so that you can use Sun Java Plugin with Discoverer.
Open to any comments. I hope that helps you workaround the problem. The ideal solution is to have EBS 11i use/cerified with the 1.4 or 1.5 JRE. In poking around, I see there is a related post to this on one of Oracle's EBS 11i Product Managers Blog.

  • Problems with deploy on OracleAS/OC4J 10.1.3.2

    Hi all,
I was successful to deploy 2 EJB-JARs and one EAR/WAR into oc4j 10.3.2.0 stand-alone, and all this piece communicate via EJBs.
I copied the EJB-JARs into j2ee/home/applications directory and modified the j2ee/home/config/application.xml to add <ejb-module ...> for those two ejb-jars.
I started OC4J and then deployed my EAR/WAR through Enterprise manager (EM).
    It works fine!
But, if I go to a OracleAS 10.1.3.1 (patched to OC4J 10.1.3.2.0), the same procedure is not successful and when I try to load the oc4j service (opmnctl startall), som error occurs (not clear what the error is) and the service does not start and a StackOverflow exception seems to occur (message on screeen).
    Seems to be a bug.
I think the same procedure I did for oc4j stand-alone should work for OracleAS/oc4j.
Does enyone know anything about this issue?

  • Deploying from JDeveloper 10.1.3 to Oracle AS 10.1.2

    Hi!
I use JDeveloper 10.1.3 and Oracle Application Server 10.1.2.
When I want to deploy my application (TopLink + EJB Session Bean Facade + ADF Faces) from JDeveloper to Application Server an error occured:
    ---- Deployment started. ---- 16.05.2006 14:02:13
Target platform is Oracle Application Server 10g 10.1.2 (for Windows) (OracleAS10g).
**** Oracle Application Server 10g 10.1.2 (for Windows) only supports ejb version 1.1 and 2.0. Project DataModel.jpr makes use of a different version and is therefore not supported.
Elapsed time for deployment: 21 seconds
    #### Deployment incomplete. #### 16.05.2006 14:02:34
Question: Is there an way to deploy my application to Oracle Application Server 10.1.2?

    There is!
First, be sure to create an J2EE 1.3 application (ie. no EJB 3.0, no EJB 2.0, no Servlets 2.4).
Second, apply a patch to Oracle AS 10.1.2 (see http://blogs.oracle.com/olaf/2006/02/09#a40)

  • 32 bit oracle on 64 bit OS

    Hi Everyone,
I just wanted to know whether is it possible to run 32 bit Oracle on 64 bit based Operating Systems.
    Regards,
    Bharath.

    Hi Bharath;
I belive its beter way to download Linux (64-bit) stage and use this stage for installation.(Its not avaliable on edelivery, contact with your local oracle office or log SR for stage DVD)
If you want to test your stage on 64 bit please refer:
MD5 Checksums for R12.0.4 Rapid Install Media [ID 728000.1] (Section 1: Overview)
Please follow below and see its helpful:

  • Error after deploying JHeadstart application 10.1.3 to OracleAS 10.1.2

    Hello JHeadstart Team,
    I'm using jdev 10.1.3 (SU5) and jhs 10.1.3 (SU1).
My application runs well in the embedded OC4J. To deploy it to my external application server I did the steps written in the article "How to deploy a JDev 10.1.3 application to OracleAS 10.1.2" (http://blogs.oracle.com/jheadstart/2006/08/27#a54).
Pages with AutoQuery=Yes are running ok.
After calling pages with AutoQuery=No and executing queries I recieve folling error:
    500 Internal Server Error
    javax.faces.FacesException: #{searchBestaende.advancedSearch}: javax.faces.el.EvaluationException: java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: oracle.jdbc.OraclePreparedStatement.setObjectAtName(Ljava/lang/String;Ljava/lang/Object;)V

    Are there any libraries missing?
    Regards
    Peter

    Peter,
From the error message, it seems to be an issue with JDBC libraries or JDBC library versions. I suggest you log a TAR through metalink for this issue.
    Steven Davelaar,
    JHeadstart Team.

I have read various threads with similar errors which suggested copying new versions of adf-faces-impl.jar, jsf-impl.jar and adfshare.jar into the project lib directory. However, I have tried this after JDeveloper started and the project was upgraded and I still get the error. Do I need to make any project or file changes in addition to copying the new libraries ?
    Thanks for any help
    Trevor

    Hi Trevor,
weird - there is another thread related to this issue:
    Re: BUG 5930745
Did you use the JDeveloper 10.1.3.1 Production or Preview version (see http://blogs.oracle.com/Didier/2006/10/22#a114)
    Regards,
    Didier.
