Oracle XE- Remote client Connect ?

Is XE like the old personal oracle where it is installed on a developers local machine and user access is only through a local SQLPLUS connection (or some development tool local to the XE database), or can it be accessed by a remote client OCI, JDBC , etc.

Yes remote connections are allowed. If they are enabled and allowed by the host.
If the client has the correct configuration to get to the database, the database listener is running, and the host does not have the listener port blocked in the firewall.
If you don't want remote connections, stop the listener. Or leave the listener port blocked in the firewall that will have the same effect as stopping the listener.
Or shutdown the database. That will also have the same effect.

  • Oracle 11.2 client connecting to Oracle 10.2 databases

I have an application which currently uses 10.2.0.4 Oracle Client to connect to Oracle 10.2 databases using java (jdbc).
Now I have to do setup on another linux server and looking into whether I can use 11.2 Oracle clinet avaiable on tcehnet.oracle.com to connect to
10.2 databases. I will be using jdbc for connectivity.

Maybe showing my ignorance here, but doesn't the application itself have to be written to use the jdbc thin driver?
That would not be typical. A Java application will normally be modular as regards DB connections.
    1. The app itself will be written to take an instance of the 'Connection' interface
    http://docs.oracle.com/javase/6/docs/api/java/sql/Connection.html
    2. The actual 'Connection' instance will be created by a factory method or other application independent code at startup and then passed to the application code.
Just like TNSNAMES.ORA contains the parameters for OCI connections an application will normally use a config file and/or command-line parameters for the JDBC connection parameters.
Naturally, just like everything else, developers can always screw things up by hard coding values. Nothing you can do about that.
See the 'Database URLs and Database Specifiers' section of the JDBC dev guide
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/java.112/e16548/urls.htm#BEIJFHHB
Database URLs are strings. The complete URL syntax is:
    jdbc:oracle:driver_type:[username/password]@database_specifier
    Note:
The brackets indicate that the username/password pair is optional.
kprb, the internal server-side driver, uses an implicit connection. Database URLs for the server-side driver end after the driver_type.
The first part of the URL specifies which JDBC driver is to be used. The supported driver_type values are thin, oci, and kprb.
The remainder of the URL contains an optional user name and password separated by a slash, an @, and the
database specifier, which uniquely identifies the database to which the application is connected. Some database specifiers are valid only for the JDBC Thin driver, some only for the JDBC OCI driver, and some for both.
Then there are examples of each driver type in 'Table 8-3 Supported Database Specifiers'
    Thin: "jdbc:oracle:thin:scott/tiger@//myhost:1521/myservicename"
See that table 8-3 for the different OCI options.

  • Oracle Fusion Middleware - Oracle Reports - remote client

    Hello,
Our setup involves an Oracle Reports server running on a farm. There is a Oracle Forms application that is used to call the reports and generate the reports.
There is a plan to have a batch functionality to generate the reports. Is it possible to have a client installed on a separate server that would be able to interact with the Reports server and generate the reports ?
If so what should be installed on the separate client unix device ? (e.g. similar to how we can install Oracle Client tools on a system and then use sqlplus to login to and interact with the database )
I have been reading up on rwclient.sh . However I could not find this in the Oracle Client folder.
Any assistance would be appreciated !
    Thank you,
    S. Krishnan

    Hi,
there is no Oracle Reports client software similar to sqlplus instant client.
If you want to use rwclient.sh then you will need to do a full install in order to get all the components you need. Make sure the servers are in the same subnet so the remote server can access the reports server running on the other server. If not, no worries, you can configure namingservices to get that to work.

  • Oracle 11g Remote Connection issue

When I try to connect to Oracle database remotely using SQLPlus or SQLDeveloper I get the following error.
    ORA-01017: INVALID USERNAME/PASSWORD; logon denied.
    Server details:
Oracle 11g on Enterprise Linux 4
I can connect using SQLPlus on the server.
    SHOW SQLCASE is MIXED
    Client details:
    Windows Server 2003 enterprise Edition
    Oracle 11g Client.
From remote computer my TNSPING to that server works perfectly.
For the same connection string I can’t connect from client. I am sure I am not typing bad password.
Any thought on this will be helpful.
    Thank you,
    Smith

Did the following steps and still not able to connect.
    1. Cross checked that the REMOTE_LOGIN_PASSWORDFILE is set to EXCLUSIVE.
    2. Created the PASSWORD file at the server using the tool ORAPWD
    3. Restarted the server and started the Oracle listener and database.
    4. Connected to the database using PLSQL in server to make sure it works fine there.
    5. Checking at the client box to connect to the database. It fails and I am looking for help again at forum.
Now it is connecting using remote connection(sqlplus and sqlDeveloper) to the server. Interestingly the password are not the same when I connect remotely and from the server.
I am sure it is connecting to the same database both the occasion. I shut down the server and try to connect or v$version results indicates that I connecting to the same database.
Any jestification on this? I am getting lost here.
    Thank you,
    Smith

  • Remote Database Connection DB2 - Oracle

    Hi All
We need to maintain a remote db connection in DBACockpit. We are on DB2 UDB and we need to connect to Oracle. We have all the connection details.
Now my query is do we need to maintain connection details at DB2 level also , or is it enough to maintain them in DBACockpit.
Basically i need to connect from my SAP BI system which is on DB2 UDB 9.1 to Oracle Database.
In oracle we can connect to different databases using TNS functionality, is something there like TNS in DB2 where we have to maintain the remote DB connection details? If yes request you to provide some relevant document for the same
    Thanks in Advance.
    Regards
    Kaleem.

    Hi Kaleem,
if you want to administer your ORACLE database through DBACockpit, you need to prepare your system for a DBSL multiconnect to ORACLE as described in note 339092 ( i.e. install ORACLE client, ORACLE DBSL library, etc. ).
This multiconnect can also be used for BI Connect.
If you just want to query some ORACLE tables in your DB2 system, you may also consider to use the DB2 federation feature to create ncicknames within your DB2 database that point to ORACLE tables. In this case I suggest to consult the DB2 manuals on how to do this. You may also have to install an additional DB2 license for the hererogenous federation feature to create nicknames to ORACLE tables.
    Regards

oracle client connecting to sqlserver in local machine. working fine.
but I am connecting to remote sqlserver getting error

    listenter not started.
No firewall, port is open, entry in the sqlnet.ora, tnsnames.ora, listener.ora
    all correct.
I have qusetion, connecting oracle client and sqlserver
we need install any special odbc
    please let me know

this question should be in HS forum
and oracle client (eg sqlplus) can't directly connect to other ODBC databases., but oracle server can through heterogeneous connectivity (HS) and yes server will need ODBC driver to do that.

  • How to load date field from a remote Oracle DB with DB Connect

    Hi,
Does any one have experience extracting Date field from a remote Oracle database through DB Connect to BW?  I am experiencing data format issue.  The extracted data shows '04-Oct-0' for '10/4/05'.  It works fine if I create a view in Oracle database to preformat the data to '20051004'.  But, I am not allowed to create view in Remote DB.
    Any suggestion is very appreciated.
    Regards,
    Frank

You have to change it to a varchar2 field. YYYYMMDD. I do not know of any other option.

  • Remote Desktop Connection Server 2012 Clients only using on DC as Logon Server.

I am using Server 2012 and have an RDC Server running on a VM.  Originally I had ordered the licensed version as Essentials was provided to me which does not allow for a full domain environment, which is required for the RDC server.  Anyway, I
used Eval versions to get started, not thinking or realizing that the DC would never be able to get Activated since it is an Eval.  So after 4 days I have finally, loaded Server 2012 on a new VM, promoted to DC, Transferred FSMO roles...DNS is up and
replicating across both DC's. The Eval keeps shutting off and was going to demote it and remove, but whenever it is shutdown the Clients receive a "No Logon Servers are available " error.  I start up the old DC and it works.  I doublechecked
all of the roles have been moved, I checked the RDC gateway, everything points to the same Domain information, but when I check an account using 'CMD set' it shows the old DC as the Logon Server.  Is there something I am missing in the RD Gateway or somewhere
else.  Is there a way to force it to use the new DC?   I have tried setting the options in remote desktop connection to use a particular TS Gateway setting and it doesnt seem to work.   Can someone please help me think about this and offer a
suggestion or let me know if you need more info.  I can figure nothing else out at this point.
    Thanks so much in Advance.
    -T

it sounds like your clients / rdc servers may still be pointing to the old DC for DNS.
Can you check you have updated DNS on the clients to talk to your new domain controller.
    Regards,
    Denis Cooper
    MCITP EA - MCT
Help keep the forums tidy, if this has helped please mark it as an answer
The new DC is the only DNS server listed on the RDC Server and is the only DNS listed for the clients other than the gateway which have as a secondary.  If I change the static on the old DC I cannot login, as soon as I put it back, I can login and it
shows that DC as the logon server.
I did a simple recursive test on both DNS servers....The new Domain Controller passes, the Old One which I am trying to remove, does not.
I will reply with any other updates as I continue to look into this and thanks for the suggestions.
So I also Pinged the domain from the RDC Server as suggested and it replies back with the old DC IP.
    Not sure why.

  • Remote Desktop Connection Client 9.3.9600 unable to connect to Server 2012 RDS via Gateway

    Hi,
I have a Windows Sever 2012 R2 RDS environment with two Gateways servers configured in high availability mode (RD Web Access, RD Gateway, RD Connection Broker roles installed) and four Windows Server 2012 R2 RDS Session Hosts. The servers are all running
the most recent public server updates. With this configuration I when connecting externally using a Windows 7 computer with the older Remote Desktop Connection client (6.1.7601) I am able to connect without any problems however when I try connecting with a
newer client from a computer running Windows 8.1 and the 9.3.9600 client I am unable to connect.
At the moment a NAT rule is configured to pass 80/443 traffic to only one of the RDS gateway servers, I've removed our load balancer from the configuration for the moment to reduce the complexity.
No error is generated by the client when it tries to connect it just stops trying to connect after a while.
On the Gateways servers event logs for
Things I have looked into so far.
    - I've double and triple checked the RDS configuration and checked it against one of my other clients configurations that is working and they are identical.
    - Connecting from an older client version works fine.
I'm not sure what else can be checked does anyone have any ideas?

    Hi,
    1. What entries are you seeing in the RD Gateway's log?  Event Viewer\ Applications and Services Logs\ Microsoft\ Windows\ TerminalServices-Gateway
    2. How come you are not forwarding UDP port 3391 in addition to TCP port 443?  It should work without UDP, but you will not have UDP support which is one of the benefits of RDP 8.0/8.1.
    3. Are there any non-default group policy settings being applied to the servers and/or client PCs?  To be clear, I'm asking if any changes have been made to the default local and domain security policies, group policy objects, new GPOs that may have
been added, etc., that are applicable to the servers and or client PCs.

  • T5325 Thin Clients losing remote desktop connection

My company just bought about 50 of these thin clients and they are setup to run an automatic remote desktop connection. I have the connection setup to auto start when the thin client is powered on and it just brings the user to a windows login screen. After they have logged in and leave their thin client to go on break sometimes it just brings them to a blank screen with an HP logo and the thin client has to be restarted to get back into the remote desktop, or I have to go into admin and restart the RDP connection. Any idea why this is happening? Is there a setting somewhere I need to change?
    Any help would be great!

We are having this same issue and it is maddening.  I have contacted HP on several occasions and I don't know if it is the language barrier or simple ignorance, but so far the issue is ongoing.  I have looked high and low on the net and no one seems to be able to tell me why this is happening despite a number of plausible theories.  We have a couple hundred terminals throughout the company which are spread across three servers none of which are close to congested yet..  However, the 10 or so t5325's we have are used specifically for digital signage.  They run automated sessions that launch animated JAVA windows.  They run great for the most part, but seemingly at random they will freeze in their tracks.  The sessions drop from our terminal server and cannot be restarted remotely.  After the units are power cycled they come back up directly and begin their sessions again.  You can shadow these units (VNC) and the moment the display come on the unit closes the RDP session and reopens the same and start running again, odd behavior.  I have tried changing session logout timers, disabling / enabling TCP settings, creating client-side refresh scripts, restarting the sessions at regular intervals via admin script, flashing BIOS and ThinPro OS to the current level, voodoo rituals, and pagan sacrifice.  Yet, they still behave in exactly the same manner with no actions on my part having any apparent affect..  Currently, I am of the mind to purchase small all-in-one pc's to do the job.  If anyone knows of any way to fix this PLEASE respond to this post.

I had the same problem and I guess you are also hitting the firewall timeout problem... you can enable Oracle DCD (dead connection detection) by setting sqlnet.expire_time in $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin/sqlnet.ora appropriately. This solution I got from http://asktom.oracle.com.
I tried setting the expire_time to 50 minutes less than firewall time-out (which is 60 minutes) but it didn't worked, right now i am trying to figure out what else can cause the problem (I am using Oracle connection pool).... but I think above solution may solve your problem

  • Error retrieving JDBC connection from remote client (WLS 10.0)

    Hallo,
I get an error when I try to retrieve a JDBC connection from a WLS datasource using a remote client. My Weblogic server version is: WebLogic Server 10.0 MP1 Thu Oct 18 20:17:44 EDT 2007 1005184

Hi. You should open an official support case,
but it may be that we do not support
external client JDBC with the client jar.Actually, I misspoke. I think we do supply a client
jar, and that may be true
what I said, but I see you're making your own. Can
you find out what jar you're
loading the InstrumentationSupport class from? That's
    the original location of
the error, and that class doesn't exist in 10.0.Hi Joe, thanks for your reply.
First of all, let me clarify what we did and why we did it: We have a stand-alone client application that needs to communicate with a Weblogic server using the t3 protocol (we don't want IIOP or HTTP tunneling). According to the official BEA documentation (see http://e-docs.bea.com/wls/docs100/client/basics.html and http://e-docs.bea.com/wls/docs100/client/t3.html) we needed to create the wlfullclient.jar file. We did this using the Weblogic JAR Builder Tool (see http://e-docs.bea.com/wls/docs100/client/jarbuilder.html). Unfortunatley we discovered the problem mentioned in my original post when we tried to run the client with that wlfullclient.jar.
Regarding your classloading question: The InstrumentationSupportImpl class is located in the wlfullclient.jar, so it does exist in WLS 10.0 (it is also contained in the weblogic.jar). Unfortunately this JAR does not contain the required class "weblogic.diagnostics.instrumentation.InstrumentationDebug". I searched for this class and found it in the OSGI module "com.bea.core.diagnostics.instrumentor_1.0.1.0.jar" shipped with the Weblogic server. Obviously the JAR Builder Tool did not include the contents of this OSGI bundle into the wlfullclient.jar. I tried to include this OSGI bundle into the classpath of the client app manually (just for testing purposes), but this onyl resultet in another NoClassDefFoundError. This time the class "com.bea.objectweb.asm.Constants" could not be found.
What astonishes me is the fact that the connection retrieval works fine when we only have the weblogic.jar in the client applications classpath, but fails when we have the wlfullclient.jar in the classpaht. It seems that the t3 communication is handled completely different, depending on what JARs I have in the classpath. Also, JMS communication works fine in both cases (i.e. for the weblogic.jar and the wlfullclient.jar). The only thing that causes problems (at least as far as we have discovered) is getting a JDBC connection from a datasource. I simply fail to see why this is the case.
    Best regards,
DirkInteresting. I hope the official support case solves your problem.
I would like to dig further, but it's too far afield for me with
the workload I have at the moment.
    Joe
