ORACLE XE SIZE

As per my knoledge Oracle XE DB's limit is upto 4 GB ,
My question is suppose my DB size is growing and exceed the limit then what i have to do . can i switch to Enterprise DB.

Actually, rather than Standard Edition, your next cheapest option would be SE One (if it fits your requirements).
You would almost certainly be able to export your application from your XE instance and import it into APEX running in SE One, SE or EE without any significant problems.

  • Increase the Oracle datafile size or add another datafile

    Someone please explain,
Is it better to increase the Oracle datafile size or add another datafile to increase the Oracle tablespace size?
    Thanks in advance

    The decision must also includes:
    - the max size of a file in your OS and/or file system
    - how you perform your backup and recovery (eg:do you need to change the file list)
    - how many disks are available and how they are presented to the OS (raw, LVM, striped, ASM, etc.)
    - how many IO channels are available and whether you can balance IO across them
Personal default is to grow a file to the largest size permitted by OS unless there is a compelling reason otherwise. That fits nicely with the concept of BIGFILE tablespaces (which have their own issues, especially in backup/recovery)

  • Best Oracle datafile size for a SAP ECC6 database.

    Hello,
We plan to migrate our ECC6 SAP database on a new Windows X64 plateforme running with :
    - Windows 2008 R2
    - Oracle 10.2.0.5.
The actual Oracle database size is more 2 Tbytes.
Please could help me to find the best size for the Oracle datafile in this new plateform ?
Today we create Oracle Tablespace for SAP with 8 GBytes datafiles but we have too many datafiles to managed.
Do you have experimented 16 GBytes, 32 GBytes, 64 Gbytes datafiles for Oracle Tablespaces on this kind of SAP Plateform ?
Thank you very much for your reply.
    Best regards.
    Jean-Pascal.

    Hello Jean-Pascal,
well the answer as usual - it depends )
We already discussed that topic some time ago - please check this thread:
    big file or small file
Your storage sub system and stripping matters of course too.

  • Oracle Database Size Estimation Technique

    Hello All,
I am planning to estimate a database in Oracle. Its a fresh database and will not take any data from any other legacy or flat file systems.
Do anyone of you can provide me with a checklist sort of thing which will enable me to estimate the size of my database considering its future growth as well?
Or if you have a document which guides to do the estimation of the size of Oracle database, could you please share it with me as well?
    Thanks in advance
    Himanshu

This estimation will depend on your installation type and your configuration like your OS, Oracle edition, release information. For example below information is from Oracle® Database Installation Guide
    10g Release 2 (10.2) for Linux x86 Chapter 2 Preinstallation Tasks - http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/install.102/b15660/pre_install.htm#sthref95
    # 400 MB of disk space in the /tmp directory
    # Between 1.5 GB and 3.5 GB of disk space for the Oracle software, depending on the installation type
    # 1.2 GB of disk space for a preconfigured database that uses file system storage (optional)
    Best regards.

  • Oracle Block Size - question for experts

    Hi ,
For years i thought that my system block size was 8K.
Lately due to an HPUX Bug i found that the file system block size is gust .... 1K
(HP DocId: DCLKBRC00006913 fstyp(1m) returns unexpected block size (f_bsize) for VXFS )
    My instance is currently 10204 but previously was 7.3 --> 8 --> 8174 --> 10204.
Since its old instance its block size is gust 4kb.
We are planing to create new file system block size of 8k.
The instance size is about 2 TB.
Creating the whole database with 8 kb is impossible since its 24*7 instance.
Do you think that i sould move gust few important tables to a new tablespace with 8k block size , or should i leave it with 4 kb ?
    Thanks

Given that your Oracle Database Block_Size (4K) is a multiple of the FileSystem Block_Size (1K), there should be no inherent significant issue, as such.
Yes, it would have been nice to have an 8KB Oracle Database Block_Size but whether you should recreate your FileSystems to 8KB is a difficult question. There would be implications on PreFetch that the OS does and on how the underlying Storage (must be a SAN, I presume) handles those requests.
A thorough test (if you can setup a test environment for 2TB such that it does NOT share the same HW, doesn't complicate PreFetches in the existing SAN) would be well adviced.
Else, check with HP and Veritas support if there are known issues and/or any Desupport plans for this combination ?!
Oracle, obviously, would have issues with Index Key Length sizes if the Block Size is 4KB. Presumably you do not need to add any new indexes with very large keys.
Having said that, you would have read all those posts about how Oracle doesn't (or really does ?) test every different block-size ! However, Oracle had, before 8i, been using 2K and 4K block sizes. Except that the new features (LMT, ASSM etc) may not have been well tested.
Since you upgraded from 7.3 in place without changing the Block_Size, I would venture to say that your database is still using Dictionary Managed and Manual Allocation and Segment Space Management Manual ?

  • Increase main oracle window size in forms 10g

I am creating a form in 10g. The form has a window and a canvas. I have given scroll bar for the canvas which has multiple blocks (so that a user can scroll within the multiple records) and a scroll bar for the window so that the user can scroll at the bottom of the page.
The main oracle window which displays the messages and errors (not my forms window) is not the full size, its a little small (there is white blank space at the bottom) and I want to increase its size to full so that the users may not necessarily need to use the window scroll bar.
Can someone please tell me how to increase its size?
    Thanks.

    Hello
I think that others user could have problems, above all, with 'SEPARATEFRAME=TRUE'.
    Here a note from metalink:
Note:358468.1 How to Maximize the MDI Window correctly on Web showing the Status bar?
When you try to Maximize MDI window in to form using
    set_Window_property(FORMS_MDI_WINDOW,WINDOW_STATE,MAXIMIZE) on web,
even though the MDI window appears as Maximized it is not actually maximized,
also it doesnt show the status cafe.

  • ORACLE SGA size

We bought a server for oracle data warehousing which has got 200GB RAM. Can I set set my SGA_TARGET to 100GB. Is it true the more SGA size result in better performance.
    Thaks
    jeevan

    Hi Jeevan,
I would not set sga_target, it can cause RAM thrashing . . .
In an article titled Automatic Shared Memory Management we see:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/pub/articles/10gdba/week17_10gdba.html
Some pools in SGA are not subject to dynamic resizing, and must be specified explicitly. Notable among them are the buffer pools for nonstandard block sizes and the non-default ones for KEEP or RECYCLE. If your database has a block size of 8K, and you want to configure 2K, 4K, 16K, and 32K block-size pools, you must set them manually.
Their sizes will remain constant; they will not shrink or expand based on load. You should consider this factor when using multiple-size buffer, KEEP, and RECYCLE pools.
In addition, log buffer is not subject to the memory adjustment—the value set in the parameter log_buffer is constant, regardless of the workload. ( In 10g, a new type of pool can also be defined in the SGA: Streams pool, set with parameter streams_pool_size. This pool is also not subject to automatic memory tuning.)
Is it true the more SGA size result in better performance. Yes, but it may not be much, or it could be alot! It depends.
On a dedicated server, your goal is to allocate all the RAM, without causing swapping. I have my notes here:

  • Use OEM to monitor oracle database size

    Hello All,
We currently have several database which are currently monitored via OEM however i will appreciate if anyone can tell me how i can monitor the the size of my oracle databases via oem
    Thanks

    Hi,
I'm not sure of OEM will monitor database size, but many 3rd party tools do.
There are many ways to achieve Oracle table monitoring, and many create specialized extension metadata tables to monitor Oracle table growth. In Oracle 10g you can perform Oracle tables monitoring with the dba_hist_seg_stat tables, specifically the space_used_total column.
On my databases, I create STATSPACK extension tables to track table and overall database growth:
    http://www.dba-oracle.com/te_table_monitoring.htm
The full scripts are in my Oracle Press book, Oracle tuning with STATSPACK . . .

  • My Oracle Database Size

    Hi,
I need to check the current size of my Oracle database, and the remaining storage space.
Does anyone know if I could do that from my SQL prompt? If yes, how would I do that?
    thanks,
    Matty

    Hi,
In resume, you can use these query's below:
    select sum(bytes) as total_size from dba_data_files;
    select sum(bytes) as free_size from dba_free_space;
    select sum(bytes) as used_size from dba_segments;Cheers

  • Change oracle word size (32 bit to 64 bit oracle on Solaris 10 OS)

    Hi Folks,
I have installed Oracle Ebusiness Suite 11i on Solaris 10 platform (Sparc)
The default installation comes with oracle 9i database which is 32bit size.
Now I want to upgrade it to Oracle 10.2.0.2 64 bit.
Should I perform the 'normal' database upgrade ?
Are there any additional steps reqd for 64bit upgrade?

  • DB2 UDB - Oracle 10g Size Difference

    Hi -
We are looking to migrate a production database from DB2 UDB to Oracle 10g. Can anyone provide any insight as to what kind of size changes we can expect?
    Thanks!

I don't know even the a b c of DB2 but still I can say that it must be saving some sort of metadata as oracle. In oracle 10g the extra tablespaces which you must have to create are SYSTEM and SYSAUX which actually store the metadata and AWR information. How big your current database is on DB2, check it with and without metadata.

  • Oracle FRA size estimation

    Hi,
FRA is area which stores all the recovery file for backup and recovery purpose.
But How to estimate the FRA size If our database is 800GB
Do we need FRA size equal to database size?
Give some more details how to deal with FRA.
    Thanks for you time.

As FRA constitutes the backup files of your database so in a very generic answer,it should be atleast double of your db size.Than add the details of how much you are dml prone and than how many archive logs , flashback logs you create and all that and it will increase. Please have a look at the doc link given.
